Best tapas experience in Barcelona! The staff are so kind and the food is amazing. This is a STANDING ONLY restaurant, and be ready for a wait if you're coming during peak times. However, the wait goes pretty quickly. We loved it so much, we had to go twice during our stay at Barcelona. read more

Quimet & Quimet - The great places are always small and packed. - Tapas Bars Near Me - Barcelona, B

Long story short, Quimet & Quimet was one of half a dozen or more tapas bars I visited during a tapas bar crawl organized by a Catalan friend of mine many years ago. On a recent visit to Barcelona, I tried to re-create that bar crawl (and failed miserably, but that's another, longer story). What I did get right was our visit to Quimet & Quimet. A typical/classic top bar with standing room only and a line out the door, it is well worth the wait! Go here for authentic and creative Catalan Spanish tapas! You will be very glad you did. read more

My friend wanted to come here after finding out it was featured on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. I'm so glad we decided to try it before leaving Barcelona as it was easily the best meal we had here! The seafood despite being tinned were some of the best I've had. Honestly I wasn't sure what to expect because it was all "cold" food, however, everything tasted so fresh and balanced! I especially loved the salmon with truffle honey and the mussel with caviar. My friend also enjoyed the codfish liver. Service was very good, our server was friendly and quick to help us with anything we needed. She also made some recommendations when we had trouble deciding. The space is small but they utilize it well and are able to fit a good amount of people inside. Be aware that it is spanding space only though, so it can be tiring after a full day of sightseeing. We came at 6:30 on a Tuesday and there was no wait for 2 of us but they quickly filled up. If I ever find myself in Barcelona again I would for sure visit again! read more

How do you make tinned food sexy? Quimet & Quimet has that answer sealed tight! This tiny tapas spot is absolutely charming but often a long line given the space. Once you're in though, the experience is relaxed and unhurried. Choose from an impressive list of tinned seafood options that they expertly plate with olive oil and balsamic. Everything was super tasty and completely surprising given they all pretty much came out of tins. I got here right towards closing to avoid the lines. Standing room only which adds to the experience. Late bites at Quimet & Quimet were definitely a highlight! read more

It's a cool spot but very tight and you need to stand up to eat. Because of the atmosphere, its just not conducive to a good time unless you like feeling like a sardine in a can. The tapas was solid but not worth feeling uncomfortable. read more

BEST TAPAS SPOT! It's so good that I went back twice on my trip in Barcelona. You can't go wrong with anything you order here, everything is so fresh and delicious. There's so many options to choose from and they do such an amazing job with the flavor combinations for each one. I tried so many montaditos from my favorites first: mussels & caviar (€3.50), salmon yogurt & truffle honey (€4), foie gras with volcanic salt (€4), prawns & red pepper (€4), smoked oyster & red pepper (€5), scallops caviar & tomato (€3.50) and sea urchin & fresh anchovies (€3.50). I'd still order all of them again, but the mussels were #1 one. It's so good that I bought some canned mussels at the airport in hopes to recreate this. We also had the meat plate (€12), which was good too but I'd stick to the seafood. Not many options for non-seafood people, but there's also so many drink options. I had a glass of cava blanco (€3.50) and fruity wine (€3.50), but their beer (€6) is tasty too. There's a wall of so many bottles of alcohol go choose from. The bottles are priced at a full bottle price, so a glass is only 10% of the indicated price. The food is amazing here, it's absolutely worth the wait. Luckily both times I came, I only waited about 10 minutes. Come on a weekday for better luck. read more

20 out of 10 stars! What can I add to the reviews for this place that hasn't already been said. Spectacular place, great food, service is of course great. My second time in Barcelona and my second time in Quimet i Quimet. Very unusual experience and special. read more

This place was a hidden gem recommended by a friend! It's standing room only, with space for maybe 15-20 people max. The rules are: you have a one hour time limit, and you must order food, not just drinks. The service is incredible, and the main "waiter" running around is doing an incredible job handling locals, tourists, and more across multiple languages. We tried a plethora of drinks and tapas and all of them were amazing. The highlights were definitely the prawns with caviar, the pork cheek, and the loquat dessert. PRO-TIP: they open at 6pm and you want to be right at the door. Mondays thru Thursdays are definitely the less crowded times, so try going then. read more

Probably my favorite tapas place in Spain. All the tapas're so unique, you won't see them in most places. It's a small standup bar & there's always a line, so get ready to wait. Smoked Salmon Montadito w/ Greek Yogurt & Truffled Honey - A must order!!! This tapas is just unbelievable. Everything blends ridiculously perfect. Tuna Belly with Sea Urchin Montadito - Another must order!!! Out of this world. Oysters & Caviar Montadito - Very fresh & delicious oysters. My 3rd favorite tapas from here. Shrimps & Caviar Montadito w/ Greek Yogurt & Truffled Honey - It's delicious, but practically similar to the smoked salmon tapas. The caviar gives it a different touch, but I'd rather get the salmon. Iberian Pork Cheeks - The meat's very strong & distinct tasting. The meat by itself's not my favorite, I've had better in other places. It's salty on its own, but the olive gives it flavor. The cheese's very sweet & the peppers're sweet and bitter. When all eaten together, it's a very nice blend of all flavors. read more

Why 5 stars? Because you will experience brand new tastes here. --- --- --- I've been on the Earth 39 years and I've probably eaten 49 years worth of food, but I have never tasted something quite like the loquats with anchovies. Quimet & Quimet was the first place I visited upon landing in Barcelona and the loquats with anchovies was my first bite. For those wondering, a loquat is an apricot. There were other things present on this bite, but I'm not sure what they were. It was recommended to take the whole thing as one bite, and I listen to people who confidently instruct me on things when I'm in a foreign land. The experience was: Sweet Apricot....... still sweet, still sweet.... SALT. My tongue convulsed. Not out of fear of displeasure, but via a natural reaction to experiencing something for the first time ever. Imagine if you lived nearly 40 years and never sneezed. What would that first one be like? It'd be like flying across the Atlantic, taking a quick power nap in the hotel, walking to Quimet & Quimet, asking the server for what I should get for my first meal ever in Spain, and then eating the loquat with anchovies. 5-stars. I ordered a couple of other items, but to be honest, I was confused as to which thing was what. It's quite possible that the photos I uploaded have some of the wrong captions. One was the smoked oyster with red pepper and the other was the Iberian pork cheek. Both of these were enjoyable, but I wouldn't need to order them again. I did love the red pepper though. 4-stars. And then the highlight of the experience was the Salmon, yoghurt and truffles honey montadito. This might have the been the best thing I ate during my two days in Barcelona. I need to find more truffle honey in my life, apparently. This was the perfect food. 100-stars. DO NOT come here without ordering this. As everyone else points out, this entire establishment is maybe the size of a typical master bedroom. I arrived at a weird time in between lunch and dinner, so I was lucky enough to secure a spot at the bar with no wait. This was certainly an awesome experience and one I won't ever forget! read more

This spot has been on the list for some time and we got out here right when they opened a little after noon. Note-they are closed on Saturday/Sunday. I've read there can be lines for this place but we lucked out and were taken to our high top table immediately. No seats and you have an hour limit at your table. It is a small and cozy bar where you are surrounded by a few shelves/levels of various bottles of wine, beer and spirits. I would imagine a different and busier vibe during their evening hours. We had some questions about the Tapas and our server patiently answered them. Based on his recommendation, for Tapas, we ordered Baby Beans with Codfish and Loquats with Anchovies. Both were exquisite! For Montaditos, it was Salmon with Yogurt/Truffle Honey and Foie Gras with sea salt. Also, excellent. The mix of salty and mildly sweet is so delicious. Paired with a Sangria and their house beer "Toasted" (Amber) Slowly started to pick up as we were finishing up. We got a complimentary dessert sampling which was a nice touch. A spoon of Advokat-made with egg, sugar and Gin (creamy, custard and billed as the original eggnog) and was tasty. From beginning to end, service was exceptional. Many of their Tapa and small sandwich creations are unique and probably won't be found in the bigger restaurants. Bourdain (RIP) said "If I lived across the street I'd hang out here everyday until the money is gone"- yes indeed! Don't miss this Barcelona gem! read more

Absolutley my favorite meal in Barcelona. A small standup bar, more of a liquor store actually. It's all standing but delicious tapas options. Everything I had was delicious. There is a bit of a wait depending on the time of day because 15-20 is max capacity. I only had to wait like 3 minutes around 1pm. The anchovy with loquat was delish, the shrimp with caviar toast amazing, pate with mushroom and onion delish and the salmon with cheese and truffle honey was amazing. If you are in Barcelona this place is a must go. Requesting all readers, please do not go to the center for tapas. They are the same tapas that you eat in the US in the name of apps. Now that I have said that, I found some of the most authentic Spanish Tapas away from the main city. After doing some online and reddit searches I was able to find out about Quimet & Quimet. Some of the locals confirmed that this is not only the best but also a pretty historical place for tapas. I got there and there was already a line outside of the place. Yes, the place is small but it is like home. This is something I have only experienced in Spain so far. Whenever you are dining in Spain in the restaurants away from the center and especially in older restaurants, the staff emphasizes that you are eating at home and they definitely make you feel that way as well. I ordered the following Onion filled small squid Chips and sea urchin Trout and chillies Caviar and scallop sandwich Salmon truffle honey sandwich Everything was phenomenal and so much full of flavors that every bite was like a punch to my tongue. I was happy and fulfilled. 10/10 definitely recommend. I will he back read more

Dang this place is so popular! There's literally always a line. We made it a mission to go so we went before they opened... and there was still a line lol. It's a very small space hence the line. It's a small square restaurant that has standing tables only. Walls are covered with wine and other booze. Lots to look at in here. They're very quick about taking your order and the food doesn't take too long to come out. We just found the food to be okay, nothing to write home about. Definitely more elevated dishes than what you might find in a typical casual pinxos/tapas place, and presentation is nice for a seemingly casual spot. I think you need to order the "right" dishes though. When returning back home, we heard about a smoked salmon dish that's apparently delicious, which we didn't get. read more

One of the best dining experiences, anywhere, ever. This is a small tapas place - no reservations, no table seating but the rotation is fast and food quality is 100/100. Price is so cheap especially for how great it is, basically a Michelin star quality food and presentation. We tried a bunch of different montadito - personal favorite was the honey salmon, scallop with yogurt, and oyster. The baby quid was SO GOOD as well. Wasn't my top but husband also loved the anchovies (felt too fishy for me). Service is amazing. We ordered 9 dishes & 2 drinks, paid less than 50 euros and were out in less than an hour. When in Barcelona, a tapas crawl on Blai Street is a must, and Quimet y Quimet is the best stop. One reason is its originality - unlike the traditional tapas on sale elsewhere, they serve more carefully crafted small bites with higher end toppings, but still super cheap. The one downside is they are super small, which means you will likely have to wait. Thursday around 6, though, the wait for two was only about 10 minutes. They are also standing room only, and due to the size, it is not good for crowds. Look past that though, because the food is phenomenal. My fave: the scallop and caviar "sandwich," which is basically a small round pastry crust topped with the items. It is a few bites for just a few Euros, but it is spectacular, and thanks for the size, you can easily sample a few items. They have tons of wine, vermouth, and liquor options as well, and they double as a liquor shop. Super cool atmosphere, and even better food. Psa closed Saturday-Sunday! read more

There is a lot of Tapas in Barcelona ... some good, some bad, some over hyped. It USED to be that Tapas was free snack food provided by bars to get people to linger for longer and buy more drinks. There has been a shift in tourist cities ... now, tourists come for the food and the bars charge for the snacks, which used to be free. There is a difference between Q&Q over many other Tapas bars ... and it's not the line, which at around noon is 7+ people long and about a 20 minute wait ... Q&Q serves NO hot tapas. Everything is served cold. And most of the fish, etc. is canned. In fairness, that is what they are famous for ... Tapas served from a jar or a tin. We found the flavours to be a bit fishier than freshly sourced seafood. We were packed into a corner, which is fun. It's part of the experience ... the small room is packed. It's elbow to elbow. Certainly not for those shy of covid, flu or catching a cold. The room buzzes with laughter and conversations. A very funny and capable waiter hands you a small menu and snakes and weaves his way through the sea of buzzed diners. The better the buzz ... the more you'll enjoy it. Tapas isn't exactly cheap these days. Expect to pay between 3 - 4 Euro for the smaller 'sandwich style' tapas. Basically, a cracker or small piece of bread with cream sauce, some sort of fish/shrimp from a tin and a marinated canned veggie. There isn't much meat/chicken, so fish or veggies are your main choices. There are also more expensive 6 - 9 Euro choices, such as Razor clams. The house wine is a good choice. The glasses are the size of dixie cups. You can also buy a bottle of wine ... and they have a lot to choose from. On the walls are bottles of wine with the prices scrolled on them. The markups aren't terrible, until you get to the high end stuff. (A normally 110 bottle of Flor de Pingus is 160 here .. a VERY good Spanish wine.) Overall, we ordered a round of 2 tapas each and decided to leave and find some hot tapas. The food was good but did have than 'tinned' fishy taste. We got the shrimp sandwich with red peppers, razor clams, bruchetta, blue cheese and red pepper and cervice sandwich. We shared a dessert, which was interesting. Fig, cheese and honey. After a few glasses of house wine, our bill was around 50 Euro. Not bad for lunch but not cheap. We spent about 40 minutes here. Don't miss the house special coffee, which is basically espresso with an amaretto cream. It was our favourite part of the meal. (The cream is available for purchase, in jars, as are the many tins/jars of preserves.) We might not come back ... the atmosphere was great but we feel the canned/jarred ingredients didn't suit our palates. The atmosphere was fun and the waitstaff was great. read more

It's been a while since we've visited Quimet & Quimet. Two years ago we came during summer - when it's closed for the season. This time we came before a cruise and it was open. Because of Covid-19 there was a time limit of 45 minutes (which they extended for us to 60 minutes because we kept ordering). This place is quite the famous spot. It's been on several TV Shows (most prominently probably with Anthony Bourdain as customer). And it's famous for a good reason: You will get the best Tapas you've ever had in this small place. It's been 8 years since our very first visit and it's still as great as the first time. It's a compact place and there are only tables to stand on, no sitting down. Without Covid-19 folks would drink and eat outside in the street, but not right now. Wine selection (also Cava, spirits and dessert wine) is huge and the prices small. The Tapas list is endless. And everything - really everything - we've ordered was amazing. There was not a single item which we didn't like. And the Tapas are so innovative and creative. The most unusual and exciting combinations. But they all work. Pics won't do it justice. Don't let yourself put off by the fact that pretty much everything comes out of cans and jars. The stuff here is top-notch Grade A quality. If there's one Tapas place to choose from in the whole of Spain, it this one here! And the staff/owners are fast! And not just fast: they are friendly and helpful as well, despite the fact that the place is fully packed. Order some classics like the Salmon with truffle honey. But also go for something you might not fall in love with when you read it on the menu. Try it, you might get surprised. I also loved the beef cheek very much. For a dessert, try the red orange flavoured wine! I could go on and on here, describing how great this place is. But why don't you stop by and find out for yourself? We'll be back....soon! Highly recommended. read more

The best dining experience we had in Barcelona! I can't recommend this place enough. I would definitely recommend you come here early. Our party of 2 came around 2 PM and the place was already packed, there is standing room only. We waited about 10 minutes before getting a spot and were informed there is a 60 minute limit for the party. It is a packed and intimate space. We were lucky to be placed at the bar and were able to see all the food assembled right in front of our eyes! The menu has both Spanish and English sections. This place is known for its montaditos, which reminded me of small toast/crackers with toppings. For our party of 2, we came in hungry and ended up ordering 3 tapas and 4 montaditos. Each thing was enough to share. The food comes out one by one as it gets assembled. Most of the dishes were drizzled with an oil that made them slightly sweet and really helped bring out the flavor of the food. Any seafood we ordered also tasted extremely fresh and tender. Tapas: Pan con tomate (bread with tomato) - this was much better than the dish we've had at other tapas places as it comes with crushes tomatoes and has a slight sweetness, comes with 2 Navajas (razor clams) - Simple & delicious, one of my favorites! Stuffed squid - Tasted very pure and clean Mondatitos: Scallops with caviar - Scallops were so tender Foie gras with volcanic salt - Rich & simple Salmon with yogurt - Didn't expect this to pair so well but the creaminess of the yogurt went so well with the freshness of the salmon and the honey drizzle added the perfect sweetness Mussels with pepper and caviar - Mussels were fresh Drinks: House vermouth - so sweet and fruity, finished the glass so quickly House beer - fragrant and a little bitter We finished our meal quite satiated. The total came to 39 euros which felt like a steal for the taste of the food and the experience (it felt removed from the tourist-heavy areas of Barcelona). Definitely make the trip here & you can't go wrong with anything you order! read more

2 years later and I've finally returned to Barcelona... for another 2 rounds of Quimet&Quimet! It was so good we had to come here twice in one week. Quimet is as good as ever. Due to COVID restrictions, they limit each party to 45 minutes and you must order food during your visit. So try to eat fast! This place is known for their montaditos (small sandwiches), so I'll start with those. Montaditos: Salmon, yogurt, truffled honey: One of my favorites. It's delicious! A little on the sweet side (too much truffled honey), but still so good Salmon and sweet egg: This one is very similar to the one above, but less sweet. If you're really sensitive to sweet things, maybe try this one instead Squid and Onion: The montadito version is very slightly spicy. The squid is really tender Anything with sea urchin: I'm not a sea urchin expert, so I thought this was good. My friend said it's not the best he's had. Maybe Spain is not the place to get the freshest sea urchin. If you're not a sea urchin expert like me, you probably won't notice the difference. Fresh anchovies with goat cheese: This one is SO worth it. They give you giant slices of goat cheese. Good stuff. Not Montaditos: Iberian pork cheek: really tasty but it can get heavy. More on the expensive side. If you're coming with at least 4 people, I'd recommend you get the assorted meat board instead since it includes this pork cheek Assorted meat*: Includes Iberian pork cheek, pate, some other tasty cured meats. Assorted cheese*: Really great cheese selection. They include a wide variety of cheeses and they really do pair well with everything else on the menu Sangria: really cheap here. Get it! *These boards are really heavy. Splitting both boards between 6 people was pretty difficult. If you have even fewer people in your party, consider only getting one or none. Epic customer service. Food comes out super fast. This is fast food except the food is insanely high quality. This is still my favorite restaurant in Barcelona. read more

Tapas? Yes, please! I came here at least once or twice a week when I lived here this summer and it's simply divine! Canned fish is a staple often misunderstood as something meant to carry you through hard times. Quimet & Quimet does a wonderful job of introducing conservas to the uncultured American palate as an elevated gourmet food category of its own. I've tried everything on their menu, the must haves are the anchovies with peaches and cheese doused in olive oil and the advocat; a cream, egg yolk, sugar and booze concoction mixed with gin and coffee. Perfection. The space itself is small approximately 20ft x 20ft but they do cram about 40 people into the room so get cozy! +1 Vibe +1 Taste +1 Presentation +1 Service +1 Value read more

Quimet y Quimet was our favorite tapas spot in Barcelona, and they didn't even have a place for us to sit! This standing-room only eatery has space for about 15-20 people crammed in like sardines. Quimet's specialty is tapas made with preserves, and the owner is a tapas wizard who makes each one on the spot in just a few seconds. Guests alternate between ordering at the front and eating at a small table or counter. The wife and I visited twice and tried the following: Montaditos (small sandwiches, a type of tapas): * Erizo con Boquerones (Sea Urchin & Tuna Belly) * Foie-gras con Sal Volcánica (Foie-gras with Volcanic Salt) * Mejillones y Caviar (Mussels & Caviar) * Salmón, Yogurt y Miel Trufada (Salmon, Yoghurt & Truffled Honey) * Zamburiñas con Caviar (Scallops with Caviar) Other Tapas: * Anchovies (Anchoas Ración) * Navajas (Razor Clams) The Sea Urchin & Tuna Belly didn't really match our taste preferences, but we enjoyed all the other items. The food had a fresh and distinctive taste, and the bread served with the montaditos was enjoyably crunchy. Our favorite items by far were the Mussels & Caviar, and the Salmon, Yoghurt & Truffled Honey. These were made excellently, and the ingredients in each really heightened the flavor profile. These two montaditos are perhaps Quimet's signature items, and we had them on both visits. Yum. Get these! Make sure you include Quimet y Quimet in your Barcelona tapas crawl, and while you're there, you can pair your meal with one of the many bottles of wine that this place has covering the shelves all across the room. The only bad thing about this place? They don't deliver. You mean I have to trek 5,944 miles here just to get some of these delicious tapas? Outrageous! read more

My partner found this place on the Googs (Google) and wanted to try this place after a whole day of wandering around. It's a small standing room only bar, with lots of ambience. Because you're so packed in there, you'll make some new friends for sure. We got a couple montaditos, some more filling items, and ended with a cheese plate. To be honest, I wasn't that wow-ed by the montaditos. They use a dry, cracker-y like bagel that got soggy if you don't eat it right away. Most of the toppings (and rest of the menu) are canned goods. High end canned goods, I'm sure. So just be aware of that coming in. I think this place is good for a quick snack or apertif/digestif, but don't do a full meal here.
