Love this place!! Went on a Monday night and it was a little dead but that just meant that the service was really attentive. I think this is a fun place to come to experience something different! They were playing pop music from the 2000s and have the best/funniest wall decor. Booths are super comfortable and they have a large selection of dishes to choose from! We got the general chicken, vegetable chow mein, and potstickers. Everything was delicious and prepared perfectly. Food of course is a little on the greasy side but that's the way things go. Went to this restraunt with friends on Friday 7/5/2024. We go here when a friend comes from LA. We were so disappointed in the shrimp fried rice. We thought we had the wrong order. It was yellow in color and we question it with the server. We were told that's it no change was made. Examining it more it had iceberg lettice shreded and green onions. The lettice was brown like it was old and I found a peace of green onion that was dried up. The server said it was cabbage no way all 3 of us could see it was lettice. I then asked for a manager and he said no manger was there. I asked for supervisor or who was r unning the shft. No one there he said. I asked who's in charge and he just was dumb founded no answer. We ashed him to remake it with cabbage or veggies still saying it was cabbage. He said he could take it off our tab but he needed to take it off the table. This place was jumping when it opened, but over the last few years its gone down hill steadily. Last time I was in I ordered beef broccoli with pan fried noodles and they brought me uncooked ramen with some boiling hot gravy full of tough boiled meat. It was one of the most disgusting plates of food I've ever been served....while contemplating my disappointment I looked at the carpets. Filthy. Although we knew it wouldn't be too authentic, I was sick and I needed some comfort food. Food: We ordered 8 dishes for 5 people because you know, can't order 4 or 7 (unlucky chinese numbers). Anyways, a lot of it was way too greasy and oily (nothing new to expect though) but I needed my bbq pork fried rice and even though it wasn't the same as the one my mom makes at home, it was so great to have some rice again. Also, I got a hot honey lemon tea drink to sooth my throat and that is my favorite drink of all time! Service: If you are used to going to chinese restaurant, you have an idea of what to expect. To compare this with restaurants in San Francisco seems a little unfair, but is it really? The exterior makes this place appear to be a dingy diner and the interior isn't too much better. Hey. J.P here! So I came to tasty kitchen for dinner last night and wow What. A. Night. It wasn't busy when we went in but I got wonton soup and it took like 20 minutes for it to come out and when it came there were 2 gnats. Like just cus it's small doesn't mean I won't catch it. Nuh uh uh!! I sent it back and they didn't even apologize or say anything, just stared but they came back with a fresh one which was pretty good and big portion. But during my meal me and my friend got interrupted by this lady who was harassing and ruining this other family's dinner by criticizing them about not supporting some type of religion and then proceeded to whip out one heck of a poster setting it right in front of them so they can see it while eating the rest of their meal. I just thought it was so interesting how no body in the restaurant cared especially the workers and continued to serve her food.... weird... She also started recording the family and telling her nonexistent audience that the family was non supporters and should go to hell even though the family was not even interacting with her. Just left asap lol and glad that other people were talking outside about how she should be put in a hospital because DITTO. Won't be coming back. The food reminds me of home, but better because my mom can't cook as well as they do here. :P This place serves authentic Cantonese food (my favorite kind of Chinese food). As expected with a Chinese restaurant, Tasty Kitchen offers complementary tea and a decent variety of menu items. I ordered the cod and eggplant clay pot and the chicken with string beans and mushroom. The fish clay pot had a tasty sweet and spicy flavor. The cod & eggplant were both super tender (almost too tender!). On the other hand, the chicken and string beans with mushroom was solid. Chicken was tender and savory, string beans cooked perfectly, and a variety of Asian-style mushrooms. Service was average but food came out quick and portions were appropriately sized. My go-to Chinese restaurant in Davis. Even the smell inside the restaurant makes me nostalgic of places in Hong Kong. My favorite thing about this place is their portion sizes! I always end up with plenty of leftovers that are great even reheated! The service can be slower on busier days, but overall they are pretty attentive and speedy. They box up your food and clear your table faster than anyone I've seen! My favorite dishes are the Pea Sprouts/Leaves with Garlic, Gai Lan with Garlic, Sautéed Beef with Gai Lan, Empress (cold) Chicken, Boneless Honey BBQ pork, Garlic Eggplant with Cod Fillet in Clay Pot and Peking Ribs. Roast Duck is one of my favorite foods in the world, but that's the one portion size that leaves a little to be desired. It's good to satisfy my cravings but I usually end up going to 99 Ranch for duck (since you get more bang for your buck there) and getting the other meat dishes here instead haha. My BF really loves their Mu Shu dishes and pretty much all the veggies dishes sautéed with garlic. I love that they also have sweet drinks and dessert options. We discovered Tasty Kitchen this week as our usual Chinese restaurant wasn't working for deliveries for some reason. It ended up being a serendipitous event because Tasty Kitchen delivered and the food sas delicious! We ordered the sesame balls, green onion pancake, lemon chicken, chicken pan fried noodles, barbecue pork fried rice and fried prawns. All were sure tasty and good portions. My personal favorites were the rice and the noodles - so crispy and fresh. Definitely a cut above the usual Chinese food in Davis. A complete scare and disaster. It was only until after I ordered did I read someone's review about their credit card information being stolen within an hour of paying. I then read a sign that says they take 5% off your bill if you pay with cash which alarmed me even further. Does this mean you are still not confident in your card system or???? At this point we had already ordered and so I didn't want to walk out and we had been recommended this place by one of Scott's acquaintances. Now I'm sweating bullets because the food is taking forever, as other reviews said, and the more I think about what I read the more I thought, "We should get cash, we should get cash, we should get cash..." Well, we didn't, and after an eon the food finally came only to taste beyond subpar and I'm not just saying that because of the customer who got his card info stolen. Honestly, the chow mein was crunchy, the sesame chicken had no sesame seeds on it and was terribly soggy and overly sweet with hardly any actual chicken pieces (most of it was literally fried pieces of dough with sauce on it made to look like chicken), and the broccoli beef "gravy" was incredibly thick and salty. This is my go-to Chinese restaurant! I've probably been here at least 6 times, and I usually order the same thing unless I'm with a larger party. I always order their salt and pepper ribs & garlic eggplant with cod fillet in a clay pot. They're fairly consistent and it comes in large portions. The salt and pepper ribs are sometimes missing that extra pinch of salt, but that's an easy fix. When a waiter saw us add salt, they even asked if we wanted the chef to recook it - very thoughtful of them, but adding salt ourselves was easier. It was very crispy, and I always enjoy the little bits of jalapeno and spices! The garlic eggplant with cod fillet in a clay pot is my favorite! It's super savory and saucy. The sauce is nicely dispersed between the cod and eggplants, without becoming soggy. I'd highly recommend ordering this, you won't regret it! Overall, this restaurant has attentive workers who have great customer service. The food is tasty and it's fairly cheap! I've never had a bad experience, so I'll keep coming back. read more

Came in on Friday night from out of town. We don't usually eat in but this time we did. This was also our first time here. First off parking looked full all the way around but fortunately there was a spot close to the door open. My husband has problem walking so this was a major plus. The place is very clean and organized seating for large groups and small. Greeted right a way and got the perfect table. Received hot green tea without asking nice touch. We ordered sweet n sour pork and pork fried rice. Ordered one of each to share. And was I glad we did . The plates were so large after we ate we took home the leftovers. Our mid night snack. The service was great the waiter was right there for all our needs. In total our bill was around 40.00. I tipped over 25%. The simple fact that it was so easy made our experience enjoyable. Last year, we went there every 2 weeks. It has pretty good Chinese food. After summer, we started to live off-campus, so we didn't went there for quite some time. Today we went there, around 7:40PM, and we didn't get our food until 8:20PM. We ordered shrimp beef and 2 dishes of vegetables. There's less than 12 shrimps in that dish; the beef doesn't feel fresh, and it was cold, it feels like it's microwaved; and the vegetables were greasy. Therefore, we decided to not to give tips and we wrote why we didnt want to give tips. We walked out of the restaurant, and the waiter with glasses has the audacity to shout "Don't dine in, just eat take out". Shame on him. Tips is a good way to show gratitude of good service, and I don't appreciate the poor quality of food and service. It's a disappointment and I am never going there again. read more

I think it's too soon for me to give it more than 4 stars because I've only tried two dishes, but I really loved the salt and pepper pork! It almost felt like popcorn chicken but better, because the batter surrounding the pork piece was super crispy on the outside but moist and buttery on the inside. I seriously feel like I could just order this to go and snack on it while watching a movie or something haha (though there are bone pieces). The duck curry was less stellar but that may just be because the duck pieces were much fattier than I had expected (I had to spit out a piece of a fat chunk that was in the curry; I ate it assuming it was going to have some meat in it but it didn't). Best advice is to make sure you have a bowl of rice with you (which my friend ordered for us haha) and have a cup of tea to balance all the inevitable greasiness.
