Finally made it to their new location! Definitely a lot better than their original spot. It's bigger and you can sit down for lunch too. Japanese uni available $95 per tray.

Just wanted a simple platter of sashimi to take home. It was a good mix of salmon, tuna, octopus, and scallops chosen from the fridge. They then slice it for you at the main counter while you wait. Amazing friendly service. There's a separate area where you can request party trays. They also sell frozen seafood, Japanese and Korean alcohol, and bread and pastries.

This was my first time here. The market area was really cool with lots to browse. I tried the salmon lunch set which contained salmon sashimi, torched salmon, and spicy salmon. The salmon had so much of that white muscle stringy stuff it in that it wasn't that enjoyable to eat, and it didn't taste like much flavour-wise. I guess I expected more from a place that specializes in fresh fish and sashimi. The torched salmon was good, it was a really thin cut so the torching ended up cooking it through. The spicy salmon wasn't great, it didn't taste spicy at all, and there were those stringy muscle pieces in it too. We also got a fish from the market area (nishin and masago) and they sliced it for us. Ambiance was very casual, more like a side-dining area to the market. The tea was $2 for a teabag. The chopsticks were disposable. If you're looking for a classy ambiance to enjoy high grade fresh fish, I don't think this is the place.

MY FAVORITE PLACE WHEN CRAVING FOR SASHIMI AND SAKE This review is way overdue as I've been there many times before. I attended their omakase dinner event (Hiramasa Festival) back in Sept 2024, so I'll comment about the overall place and also some specifics on the dinner event. This is Taro's Fish's 3rd location. Similar to other locations, there's a "market area" where you can pick up sashimi and other food items. The key difference for this location is they also have a "dining area" and this quickly turns into my favorite place in uptown to hang out for lunch, snacks, and drinks. Their services are top notch - friendly staff who pay attention to details, and they always have a big smile on their face! When the place is not too busy, they also like to have a few little chatters with customers, and I'm happy to get to learn more about Japan! The food is awesomely amazing! I'll save their "regular food items" in another review on their other location. Here I'll focus on the omakase dinner and the theme was all about Hiramasa (yellowtail amberjack fish per Google). This is my first time trying, and my impression is that it's a more tendered version (in a good way) of Hamachi. - Hiramasa Crudo: Light flavors with hints of sourness, prefect refreshing appetizer! - Sashimi and Takaki: Very fresh and tendered, and I wish I can have more!! - Agedashi: The Ponzu sauce certainly makes me even more hungry :) - Misoyaki: This is probably my least favorite dish of the night (which means it's JUST an "A-Minus" instead of "A-Plus"). I think Hiramasa generally has less fat thus the misoyaki is slightly too dry. - Soup: It's seasoned just right (great balanced flavors). - Chirashi: It's mixed with ikura and it was sooooo satisfying! They also have a great selection of Japanese alcoholic drinks - beer, sake, etc. Just a suggestion, have a bottle of Orion Beer (a lager from Okinawa, Japan) before the meal, and that'd get you ready for the fuller-bodied sake during the meal. Overall it was a very satisfying experience - awesome food and drinks, wonderful services. I'll definitely continue to be a regular there.

I love Taros fish! First time coming to this location and which is a lot bigger than the Leslie one. They have a bit more variety of fish and a lot of different types of sake that goes well with the sashimi. They also have a seating area where you can eat as well. Service was also wonderful like in every location.

Since being a regular at the Markland location, I had high expectations for this location. Wide variety of fish and I had heard lots of good things about the dine in area. There's ample parking which is nice. You enter from the side. Once inside, you have sashimi selections on your left and the dine in area straight ahead. The sashimi quality is what you'd expect. Fresh. I think I was expecting more selections as markland has a quite a few to choose from but this place felt like it had less variety even though it had more space. There were refrigerated and frozen items too - ie unagi and pre made sushi. You can also order made to order sushi at the counter on top of getting your fish sliced. There seems to be some good lunch sets available. They even had a sample so you know exactly what you'd be getting. It's well decorated, makes you feel like you're almost in Asia (almost lol). Service is always excellent. There isn't that big an area so I'd imagine it can get quite busy. I would come back if in the area but if not dining in, I would probably go back to Markland.

A convenient third location that opened in Markham, near Woodbine and Denison. Upon arriving the first thing I noticed was how large this location is compared to the other two stores. It's massive and they even have a dine in area with servers - wow! I come to Taro's Fish a lot when I'm feeling for DIY sushi at home since I can pick my own fish and have them cut it up for me. Their selection is massive with a variety of fresh slabs of fish for you to choose from. I usually get salmon, tuna, hamachi and uni there. The fish priced by weight and you can ask the staff to get it sliced sashimi style or poke style based on how you decide to eat your fish after. You can also buy prepared sushi rice here if you don't want to make your own rice at home. Overall I think the quality of the fish is amazing and fresh. Compared to other sushi shops or fish markets, Taro's is definitely a go to!

This particular location is large compared to their other locations. Also has a sit down restaurant area with sushi specials. A large variety off sushi , sashimi, other seafood items. All very fresh and made to order. Bought a nice chunk of hamachi, they slice it for you after payment. The uni/rice cones were fantastic, they ingeniously packaged it so the seaweed sheet is separated from the rice/uni. Directions are on the plastic packaging on how to unpackage and assemble the cone. A little pricey but I think it's worth it for the quality and freshness of the seafood.

Ate here on the last Saturday of the year, around 1.5hr before close. There were some people inside, but it wasn't too busy and crowded. It also wasn't that loud inside. They have a fish market-grocery set up with pantry items such as chips, alcohol, fridges for drinks, fridge and freezer chests for fish, and regular fridges for other fish. They have ordering counters to order sushi and other menu items, and to cash out. They also have a separated dine in area. During my visit, there were 2 other groups seated. There's probably room for at least 10 4-person groups. They have an option where you can select and buy fish from the fish market area and they will cut it up for you and serve it in the method of your choice, e.g. Chirashi, temaki, etc. if you're like me and couldn't decide, they thankfully have other set menu items to choose from. I got the sushi deluxe set. When you dine in, they give you a limited drink menu to choose from but you get the option of hot tea for $2. If you want, you can buy the drink ahead through one of their fridges and bring it in. Last call for dine in is 1hr before close. The sushi itself was fresh. Personally not a fan of spicy salmon-type of rolls which it included, but it was good. The red snapper came in a plentiful portion, considering the rice was more like a filling to the fish and not just covering one side. The fish was fresh and not fishy in any way. I liked that the server asked us if we were ok with having wasabi in the sushi or if we preferred it on the side. We opted for inside. We were served disposable wooden chopsticks (though the quality was not bad), and packets of soy sauce in reusable bowls. Overall, I really enjoyed this meal. I've been going to their North York location for several years, so it was nice to be able to try this location out.

Food is yummy. Service is very friendly (we did dine-in). Ambiance is like a store. You can choose your fish and then they can slices for you to dine at the location. I will return for more yummy fish.

Third location with dine in option. For those who want to try, you gotta go when they open because it does get busy. We got our seats right away and they asked if we wanted tea or water. I thought tea was free but apparently it was $2 or $2.50 each lol We got the sushi set and pork belly donburi. The pork belly came first and I must say it tasted like the chinese dish "double cooked pork belly". It was quite filling but 90% was fat (not meat). The sushi set was also disappointing. The handroll was good. Few pieces were very stringy, so the chef probably didn't cut across the grain. We couldn't tell what were the two torches sushi because it was pretty tasteless. If we do come back, we would go for the create your own meal.

Sushi Deluxe

Love this location as it is spacious and has ample dining space too! It is really cool how you can pick your own fish and then ask them to slice it for sashimi or in a bowl. We got there just before their last call at 6pm so we just opted for their Sushi Deluxe set. Everything was soooo fresh and high quality! Definitely a go to sushi spot for me!

Wendy W.

Good service and a good lunch menu. They have patio seating as well. I tried the lunch menu that had 3 kinds of salmon and it was good. Would come back again. They also have a section where you can get different sashimi grade fishes and ask them to slice it for you. So far this place is good for lunch or to buy sashimi for take out.

The establishment has a casual dine-in setup, offering a relaxed atmosphere suitable for a quick meal or a short break during the day. Despite being a dine-in restaurant, all food is served in takeout boxes, which, while convenient for those on the go, slightly diminishes the overall dining experience for those choosing to eat on the premises. The food quality itself was acceptable. Reasonably portioned, adequately seasoned, and prepared in a timely manner. While it may not stand out as exceptional, it fulfills the expectations for a casual meal. However, the main issue that significantly impacted my experience was the cleanliness of the tables. The first table I sat at had a noticeably sticky surface, which immediately raised concerns about hygiene and maintenance. Assuming it was an isolated case, I moved to a second table, only to encounter the same problem. A third attempt produced similar results, suggesting that this is not an isolated incident but rather a recurring issue throughout the dining area. A sticky table surface not only detracts from comfort but also gives the impression that cleaning practices are not being properly observed between guests. This, unfortunately, overshadowed what could have been a satisfactory meal. In summary, while the restaurant offers decent food at a fair value, the overall dining environment requires improvement, particularly in the table cleanliness and food presentation. Until this concern is addressed, I would recommend opting for takeout instead of dining in, as the food quality is adequate, but the in-house dining conditions fall short of acceptable standards.

The portions were actually quite generous for omakase, which was a nice surprise. There was a good variety throughout the course, from richer bites like uni and toro to lighter pieces that felt clean, delicate, and well balanced. I especially liked how fresh everything tasted, and a few of the pieces had that soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture that makes omakase feel special. The savory bites in between also kept the meal interesting and made it feel more complete rather than repetitive. The only small thing for me was the pace. The chef served everything a little too quickly, so it felt hard at times to slow down and fully enjoy each piece before the next one arrived. Still, the quality, portion size, and overall value made this a very worthwhile experience. If you are looking for an omakase in Toronto that feels satisfying without being overly expensive, Mizu Sushi Omakase is definitely a place I would keep in mind.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.
