Such a great spot for lunch! They have a meal set for $48.88 for sukiyaki and it's soo good. Totally worth it. All of their ingredients are so fresh. The decor and vibes are totally reminiscent of Japan and the food will transport you there. Great service also!! It's a must try!!

Chef selection sushi lunch set

Came here for lunch to try their $20 sushi/sashimi/maki sets. I love how they offer lunch special on weekends too! I ordered the chef selection sushi (10 pieces) and my husband ordered the chef selection maki (20 pieces). The sets come with miso soup, edamame and matcha ice cream. I usually don't drink the miso soup at restaurants as I found them very salty. But the one they serve Wagyu Suko was in the lighter side in terms of saltiness and I had no trouble finishing it. When my sushi came, I can tell my husband was jealous! Every piece of nigiri has a shine to it. The highlights were: albacore tuna (smoky taste due to the searing), toro (it was literally melt in the mouth, I was expecting a tendon or two since it's a lunch set - but that was not the case), ika (it was crunchy but also had a bit of "stickiness" to it indicating the freshness). There attention to detail is amazing, adding garnish to every piece. One of my favourite garnish is the green pepper "mustard" - I actually have a small jar I bought from Japan in my fridge. The maki set did not disappoint. My husband was happy to see that out of the three rolls, one of them had unagi. He has a big appetite, but was stuffed after finishing all the maki! We finished the meal with the matcha ice cream, which was perfect as we were experiencing a heatwave. Service was super attentive - they will check up on us and fill our tea every 10 mins or so. Food came quickly too despite the restaurant being 75% full when we sat down. Looking forward to try their sukayaki lunch - but maybe when the weather is a bit cooler.

Assorted uni upgrades.

Definitely not worth the price - spend your money elsewhere. Wagyu Suki has an interesting menu concept. AYCE sushi with premium ingredients or AYCE shabu shabu, both of which offer some irresistible wagyu...or so you think. My fiancée and I came on a Sunday night for a birthday celebration. We made reservations in advance, but you honestly probably don't really need to. The restaurant wasn't packed nor did it look remotely popular in the neighbourhood. We love sushi, so we chose the AYCE option. On paper, the menu looked pretty delicious. A bit limited in options, which should translate into fresher ingredients...right? We tried basically everything on the menu, from the beef tatami appetizer through to the nigiri and sashimi. Our waiter suggested we try the sashimi platter to try everything first and to select the ones we liked the most subsequently. Sadly, we weren't a fan of any of the pieces. The sashimi slices were inconsistent in thickness, the fish wasn't fresh, the amaebi colour was off, the shima aji had bone, the hotate was bland. The list goes of disappointments never ends. Call me crazy, but there was no flavour, no sweetness, no freshness. We didn't want to order anything a second time. We moved onto the nigiri, thinking it would be better. Nope. The rice portions were too big and underseasoned. The silver lining was that we opted for the +$20 AYCE uni specialty nigiri. While it wasn't the best uni, it definitely tasted the best the entire night. It also came with a free sake bottle sample that night. Very fruity and very delicious. I wouldn't feel comfortable paying for the full bottle knowing the food wasnt worth the money, but hey, free is free! We'd probably recommend against the +$20 uni upgrade option though. No bang for your buck. The wagyu nigiri trap is real. Super fatty, which is what wagyu should be - however, with no seasoning, there's no flavour. Maybe wagyu sukiyaki is different. But I'd probably try other restaurants before revisiting this one.

We tried their new lunch sukiyaki special as a group of six. We recommend reservations as the restaurant had a long line. Food was good the service was slow. We didnt receive all of our meat for the 6 portions and waited quite a while for it to come out...but we were also rushed out by staff to free up our table. It's better to come in a group of 2 to 4. The restaurant seating isn't meant for more, especially with a group of 6 sharing 1 sukiyaki pot, it's really difficult to cook everything and get out fast.

Came here for my birthday and I loved it. You may be thinking the price tag is a bit steep ($100+) here but it is actually worth every penny. My favourite was the foie gras wagyu roll and all the sashimis. The sashimis are so fresh and the quality of the fish is excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. There are not too many tables so a reservation is a must. The washroom though is questionable. It is a little dark inside so this is something they should improve on.

My friends have been wanting to try Wagyu Suki 喜和牛 for a very long time. We decided to check it out for my birthday this year :) The menu has AYCE and Set Menu options. We opted in for the Unlimited Omakase Style Wagyu Dinner (108 pp) The food was amazing, came out very speedy, and the owner and staff were all friendly and attentive :) Recommend!!! Some must-order items from the Unlimited Omakase Style Wagyu Dinner: - Sashimi Platter - Sea Eel Sushi - Torched Wagyu + Foie Gras Sushi - Fois Gras Wagyu Pintxo - Japanese Style Lamb Rack - Crème Brulee - Pancake + Matcha lce cream - Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Almond Ice Cream Bar

We came here for set lunch on Saturday, this is a medium-sized restaurant and not authentic Japanese, all servers speak Mandarin and Cantonese. Service was so so, we had to ask for tea & a young Chinese lady server was a bit impatient as she might be off for afternoon break soon. We ordered one sukiyaki hotpot set at around $48.88 and one unagi rice. Portion size was good and ingredients were fresh. Sukiyaki set came with soup base, fish balls, vegetables, edamame, 2 different trays of sliced beef, udon, rice & seaweed snack. Unagi rice was served beautifully and tasted good. I heard their AYCE dinner is good but it costs over $100 per person, I may give it a try next time.

This place is sooo good. The sashimi quality is top notch and the Wagyu as well. Service was great and till this day I am still craving for that sashimi. If you have some extra cash to spend you have to go to this for the all you can eat sushi and Wagyu. I also love how they sprinkle gold dust on your A5 Wagyu to make it boujie.

Ordered AYCE + Uni promo they have going on, customer service was on point. Thank you to their team and the manager (Xing) for a great experience! Variations of wagyu sushi were quite good! Must haves: Torched Wagyu; + Caviar, Yuzu Pepper, Foie-Gras and the A5 Wagyu Raw. It does get quite filling after a while, so the rice helps with good ratio to wagyu, however the rice and food seasoning wasn't consistent. Could have also been palate fatigue. Sashimi was really good, great quality cuts of fish, and portion sizes were generous. Hats off to sushi chef, chu-toro presented was about an inch thick and amebi sizes were quite large, but not that swee/flavourful. I loved their conch sashimi, adds a nice refreshing texture to take a break from the fattiness. Uni flavour was lacking and presentation of uni wasnt too pleasing, may not have been so fresh. Personally didnt eat my worth for pricing, all in all, for an AYCE it's pretty good if you're in for a load of wagyu and sashimi, don't have the same expectations as going to an omakase restaurant. Would recommend and would go back to try their sukiyaki next time.

A premium ayce restaurant with two menus, one as an omakase style or one as sukiyaki. We opted for the ayce omakase style wagyu dinner which was $108 per person. The menu is small in opinion, which I get since it's suppose to be like an omakase style. There are some special items that is only limited to one per person like uni nigiri sushi and grilled items. Don't get fooled, because I thought you can get all five specialty items per person, but really you only get to pick one of the five specialty items per person. Now onto the food: Wagyu tataki and salmon carpaccio 4/5 - Refreshing ponzu sauce that complimented the raw beef and salmon quite well. It was a great appetizer dish that opened up the palette for more. Sashimi platter 5/5 - The best thing on the menu. All the different types of fish were thick cut and so fresh. Got all the fish options of: salmon, hamachi, tuna, shina aji, amaebi, hotate, ika. conch, madai and bc tuna. The conch was SO good, make sure to get multiple rounds of this. Amaebi and scallop were also so fresh and juicy! Uni Nigiri sushi 3/5 - This was nothing special, as the uni didn't have a prominent taste. You can also +$20 for aye uni nigiri sushi if you'd like. Wagyu sushi 3/5 - There was a huge selection of different wagyu sushi like torched wagyu + truffle, torched wagyu + caviar, torched wagyu + foie gras. I didn't think the wagyu sushi tasted like anything and could've used some sort of seasoning. Could probably get 2 pieces of this and skip. Maki rolls 5/5 - Loved the maki rolls as they were filled with lots of delicious filling and toppings. Comes with 3 pieces per order. Grilled items 3/5 - Grilled items is alo limited to one item per person. I thought the best of the selection was the grilled mayo lobster. The foie gras with wagyu was very underwhelming and came in a tiny chewy piece of beef. Dessert 4/5 - They have creme brulee, mochi, pancakes, ice cream and haagen daze ice cream. I was shocked they were giving out full sized haagen daze ice cream, think they can do the mini sizes. Creme brulee was great! Overall, I think they need to up their cooked/ grilled items to be ayce as well, since everything else was raw. Sashimi platter is definitely the winner here, as the sashimi is so generous, thick, and fresh. Come for a special occasion and enjoy the ayce!

This review is gonna be an essay and not straight forward at all. I can't comment on the sukyaki/shabu shabu as we didn't have it but I will say ... even though I've given a 4 star overall star rating, my actual rating is more of a 3.7 or 3.8 star rating tbh (also cuz we can only give 3 or 4 stars but i do feel like it's better than 3). We collectively ordered 80-90% of the items on the menu so I have a general sense of what's good and what's maybe not as good? Where to start? My friends and I came here recently to celebrate 2 bdays jointly. We saw that the menu had 2 tiers for AYCE wagyu and also a la carte which was intriguing to us based on the items that they were offering. The resto is located inside Metro Square and the unit itself is really not that big. It's got around 8 booths running the length of the walls and one long table running down the middle of the resto that can fit ppl on both sides. The base AYCE tier is $98 (at the time of this review) while the $108 AYCE tier basically includes shabu shabu. The resto's value proposition is that it serves "omakase quality" sushi and sashimi as an AYCE option. We had a party of 12. 8 ppl opted for tier 1 AYCE while 4 ppl opted to just order a la carte. Because of this, the 8 of us had to sit separately from the other 4. Now on to the food. While the sashimi and sushi WERE good, all of us thought that they were just a lil TOO chilled for our liking. Bringing the fish down a bit closer to room temp would've been our preference. The fish was certainly fresh, I'll give them that. However, we all thought that it played second fiddle to anything that involved unagi or wagyu. Of all the torched wagyu nigiris, my fave would have to be the wagyu + truffle nigiri or wagyu + foie gras nigiri, with the raw A5 wagyu nigiri coming in 2nd. The fois gras + unagi maki and green onion wagyu maki were also VERY tasty. Unagi was a major sleeper hit for all of us. Very tender and completely melt-in-your-mouth texture. The green onion wagyu roll also had the most flavour out of all the wagyu I tried as well. In general, I do think the wagyu items could've had a bit more flavour overall which is why I actually liked the green onion wagyu maki roll the most out of all the items on the menu. It was dusted with togarashi spice which really enhanced the flavour of the beef and made it sing. I also liked this item the most because it had a nice contrast of temperature. The outer part of the roll was hot, seared beef while the inside of the roll was a creamy, cold wagyu mix. The grilled wagyu striploin was so juicy but I do think it could've been cooked a lil less (more medium rare as opposed to medium well). Every person gets one uni nigiri included in the price but you can pay an additional $20 on top of your base price to get unlimited uni sushi. Dessert was surprisingly pleasant actually! Most of them were quite unique. I had only one haagen daaz ice cream bar (these things are pretty expensive if you buy em in a grocery store or supermarket so I was tempted to just eat like 4 of them), creme brulee and 6 scoops of ice cream (3 matcha 3 yuzu sorbet). The yuzu sorbet flavour is not listed on the menu fyi so just ask the server for it. My gf tried the pancake and some mochis. She wasn't really a fan of either but she thought the mochi was acceptable. She really liked the ice cream and creme brulee though! Ok so final verdict. TL;DR: If you really like unagi, shrimp, scallop or wagyu this resto will be worth it (especially wagyu). If you're a stickler for true omakase level fish in your sashimi or sushi then you might find it slightly weird at how chilled the fish is. But after all, "wagyu" is in the resto's name so it kinda makes sense to me you would come here and fill up on wagyu rather than fish. Would I come back personally? I think I would ... but only for a special occasion (and if someone else picked it for dinner) due to the expensive price. Also, for me personally, if I did come back I'd probably stick to ordering unagi, shrimp, scallop or wagyu items constantly before rounding off w/ dessert. If you can eat a lot and eat a decent chunk of wagyu, you can make that $98 worth it. To reiterate, final rating is 3.7 or 3.8 out of 5 stars.

When I heard about this place, where its main focal point was AYCE WAGYU, I have a certain expectation with the price of $108/ person (used to be $98). We made a reservation ahead of time thinking it would be a lot of people during the long weekend. The restaurant itself was not big, with only booths or a giant table in the center. When we checked in with the host, they asked which menu we wanted for the night- AYCE sushi or AYCE sushi & sukiyaki (Japanese sweet soy sauce hotpot). We opted for the sushi only for the experience. The options weren't as big as your typical AYCE sushi place, which I understand as they were supposed to be an omakase/ upscale dining with the focus of wagyu. There were some sections where where you're only allowed ONE order per person for the night- the uni section and grilled items. The sashimi was quite fresh and thick cut. We ordered pretty much every fish they had to offer. Highly recommend the conch, and madai. It's our first time having conch sashimi and it has a chewy and hard texture at the same time. You could taste the natural sweetness of the conch. The amaebi (sweet shrimp) was really sweet compared to ones you get from most AYCE sushi restaurant. The wagyu sushi section has different cooking style of wagyu on top of the sushi rice - raw wagyu, torched wagyu, wagyu w/ cavier or foie gras, etc. We ordered one of each to try and the raw wagyu was a winner. It was tender and buttery, yet you could still taste the umami of beef despite it being thin. The truffle was a runner-up, and the taste didn't really overpowered the umami. The grilled items... more like sample sized grill items. The foie gras with wagyu was presented artistically despite it being Costco sample size. The lobster mayo was more a baby lobster, and overcooked a little as the meat became a little tough to chew on. The maki rolls were alright. Each order came in 3 pcs, and it's California roll as the core. The wagyu roll was the only one that's different with beef fat and green onion in the center of the roll, which could be a little turned off by how oily your mouth gets. Dessert wise... they don't have the typical ice cream (well, except matcha 'cause that's pretty much standard), or those mango yogurt at most AYCE. They offered mochi, red bean pancakes, haagen daze (not melona), and of course creme brulee but UPSIZED creme brulee. However, the creme brulee was so obvious that it wasn't made in store as there were foil bits on the ream (as if they tear out the sticky foil that you get from store-bought ones). Overall, service was definitely NOT UP TO PAR for the price you're paying- slow service, not attentive (waiters could pass by your table numerous times and didn't see the empty plate on your table), forgotten orders... Quite disappointed.

Richard M.

The AYCE choices are sushi (includes Wagyu sushi) or the sukiyaki + Wagyu sushi. I tried the sukiyaki and it was really great. Everything was fresh and the meat choices were heavenly. The only issue is, as someone else also pointed out on another review, after a while this started to taste like a glorified hotpot and the fatty nature of the meat became a bit overwhelming. My suggestion for anyone not really into hotpot or sukiyaki is to go for the sushi AYCE choice as the Wagyu sushi were superb and I expect the fish/seafood AYCE choice to be just as good. Overall the service was quick, attentive, and the place was clean and well run. Definitely would recommend.

Taki is a fine dining Japanese restaurant located in the busy commerical areas of Richmond Hill…read more We recently had lunch here for a special occasion. The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

Was worried it wouldn't be filling, but it's just the right amount of food. Whether you're celebrating something special or just want a traditional Japanese meal, this would be my spot. The sushi chef was very friendly and approachable, but he wouldn't make you feel like you need to yap with him like other omakase I've been to in Toronto where they would talk to the customers a lot. The wait staff was attentive and polite. Overall really good quality sushi, service and value. Would come again! I also appreciate that they don't require a deposit for reservations and don't require to pick the set you want beforehand. Very clean and warm design. Felt like I was in Japan!

Tastes exactly the way I thought it would. Which is internal organ like but in an unpleasant creamy way. Duck liver raspberry toast: Nice but could be bigger. The raspberry brought an expected nice sweetness to the nice liver taste. A little more raspberry would be nice. Tuskune and egg yolk dip: It's ok but not that big a deal. Cheese momo: Fantastic. The swiss cheese is an excellent pairing to the chicken. Skin-Kawa - Delciious. Crispy. Must have, Hiza (knee cartidlidge): nice and crunchy Beef short rubs boneless: Was enticed due to the tendon part. It was nice but not incredible. Beef tenderloin + Chimichurri: Wife's favourite. We always order several of these. P-toro: Another must repeat. Great pork belly taste. Cherry tomato bacon maki: New and delightful. Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes provide a delightful burst of tomatoey sweetness wrapped with the unctuousness of bacon. Lamb rib chop: Excellent and tasty. Once again everything was cooked perfectly and the amazing binchotan smoke made everything delicious. Fun fact, they put charcoal in the free water carafes as well.

Good food that hurts your wallet…read more Japanese izakayas are few and few between in Markham - that's why I got excited to see Sumoki pop up! It's not on the main street of Unionville, but its presence on a side road matches the quaint nature of the restaurant. It's not the biggest inside, but it gives off a Japanese aesthetic with the wood trim throughout. We made reservations in advance to avoid long lines, if any (thankfully it wasn't packed the night we went). Orders are made via QR code, which seems to be the norm now. I like it since you don't have to waive down waiters in a low-dimmed izakaya. Their main offering seemed to be skewers. We ordered a bunch of them to try - notably, all of them had a nice smoky fragrance to them (maybe that's why it's called Sumoki). We especially enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Skin. Perfect crunch from the initial bite leading to a slight chew throughout. The seasoning was spot on as well. Other honourable mentions include extremely succulent Chicken Thigh meat, Gizzards and Beef Tongue. You could really taste the meat juices from each skewer since the chefs don't overpower it with seasoning. Other local skewer places tend to have the same seasoning across different cuts of meat, so Sumoki felt like a breath of fresh air amongst the growing market. Coincidentally, it's also the first place I've been to offer Giant Rooster Testicles. Now...don't be alarmed. It sounds exotic and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this dish is extremely creamy. Give it a try if you have the courage! We came to celebrate my brother's birthday, but quickly realized our bill was racking up really quickly despite a small number of orders. Sumoki is definitely a place where you don't want to come on an empty stomach, since each order is 1 skewer (unlike other local restaurants). Other menu items, from what we saw of neighbouring tables, didn't fare much better in terms of portion sizes. We left quickly to avoid some serious financial damage for the 6 of us, but also quickly drove to another impromptu restaurant to get settle our hunger down. Sumoki definitely isn't cheap. I wouldn't recommend this to be a formal dinner - moreso if you wanted a light snack after dinner. But then again, with these prices, Sumoki tries to make itself bougie without delivering 100% satisfaction so maybe try at your own risk.
