Stopped by this nearby local sushi spot in the Markham area. I have always passed by this place, but actually never went in. From good reviews from a friend, I finally decided to check it out. Its small local sushi spot, that has many takeout sushi platter options and has a good daily lunch special from $15. I got the steak Bento box, and the presentation was very beautiful. All Bento boxes come with 4 pieces of California roll, miso soup, salad and big bowl of rice all in one tray The steak was very tender cooked as medium well which is my preferred option. I think from this short lunch, I enjoyed the experience if you looking for a quick sushi lunch. Service was quick, sushi and steak was fresh and reasonably affordable in this economy. While in the Greensborough neighborhood I stopped by Projects Sushi for dinner. It is a popular restaurant at dinnertime which is usually a good sign. There was a large birthday party which took up half of the restaurant which added to the festive atmosphere. This did not impact the level of service. Service was still good. I ordered teriyaki chicken dinner with an appetizer plate of gyoza for dine in. My nice waitress brought tea to the table and the meal came out fast. The portion of chicken was a decent amount but it was not the grilled teriyaki chicken I assumed it would be. It was tasty nonetheless. We decided to give this newer sushi place a try! They have affordable party trays and we got the one for two people (40 pieces of sashimi / sushi / rolls). I have to say that the tray was pretty disappointing. The fish didn't taste very fresh and the rolls you get are pretty cheap - like this fried sweet potato one which didn't have any fish in it. There are other quick and cheap sushi options at similar price points like AI sushi, and I find the comparable party tray there much more satisfying. Restaurant has enough space for groups but fills up quickly during the lunch rush despite covid-19! Sushi rolls and rice seemed typical nothing too unique, good enough flavour without too much sugar or salt added in. Fish was fresh tasting and good amount in each maki bite. I came here for lunch with my grandma over the holidays and had the Mix Combo. The portions were very generous; it came with gyoza, salad, 6 pieces of sushi, sashimi, and 6 rolls. Again, given the price point and the generous portions, my standards weren't too high here. It's good for what it is; cheap, fill you up food for those not up for deciding on fine dining. By the time I got there 15 mins after I i ordered, it was ready for pick up. They do tell you that it's cash only which is no big deal. We got home to find they packed ginger, wasabi and soy sauce separately and the fish was fresh. Would definitely do this again for those lazy nights. The chefs talk very loudly in Chinese which didn't bother us but I can see it being a problem with others since the space is small and pretty quiet, that's all you hear. I had their Party Tray (40 pieces) twice and I am satisfied with the food quality so far. I used to place my order on the phone in advance to avoid wait time. Friendly customer service. Tray feature: The tray comes with a Yam Tempura Roll which it will make my stomach full for sure. It is a deep fried sushi with yam inside. Crispy outside and soft inside. Been to this location few times prior as it changed restaurants and ownership couple times. Plenty of parking as it is situated within a strip plaza. Menu selection is large and has many special rolls to choose from. We ordered ala carte to try out the special fish we like including Salmon Sashimi, Unagi Rolls, Scallop and Hamachi Sushi. Sushi and rolls were good but sashimi was slightly frozen. For the price you are receiving good value for the food, huge menu and various combos and platters is a bonus. Reason for Visit: Heard about this new sushi place that opened in Markham Rd/16th. Menu: First thing I noticed, is their menu is pretty well designed. Everything looks very legit so it was off to a good start. Their prices are also very reasonable, ~$15 -$20 a person for most things. I do note, that their take out menu prices are lower than their dine in menu, I am not sure if the selection is different. Their take out menu prices are essentially on par with Ai Sushi, but has to be cash only. Their tuna tataki was deliscious, maybe a bit extra on the spicy end but very enjoyable. Will definitely try their beef tataki next time. Their mix platter was also very deliscious. Pieces are smaller than other places, but the quality really does make up for it. Their medium platter is definitely perfect for 2 people. As other Yelpers mentioned, their 100 pieces for $60 I believe is perfect for 3-4 people . Service: It was 1 waitress serving entire restaurant of over 10 tables. She was very good and polite though, but she was definitely stressed out. Very impressed at how the waitress and chefs were so inviting. Atmosphere: This place is ran by Chinese people which explains the Chinese songs playing in the background. Lots of small tables, I think biggest table was 6 people. This place is packed too and busy. Definitely call ahead if you want to come in with a bigger group. I am now Project Sushi's biggest fan. My mom said a new sushi place has opened up by her house in Markham and suggested we do take out. For 100 (sashimi, sushi, and roll) pieces it was $60!!! We also get a chicken fried rice as we wanted some hot food. The total came out to be a little less than $80 (omg). The food was ready within 20 minutes of ordering (Sunday night around 6PM) and packaged securely for takeout. First impression was the aesthetic of the platter. Everything was bright and colourful because they used so much actual fish/cucumber/avocado that other restaurants cheap out on! Even the vegetarian rolls were packed! The fish and vegetables were extremely fresh. They gave us 2 little bowls of wasabi and 2 big containers of soy sauce. The chicken fried rice was absolutely delicious. The carton was FILLED. My boyfriend ate maybe 1/3 and I was able to take it for lunch the next day where it still tasted amazing. Great food for a great price. Came in during a weeknight. Not too busy at first but do see quite a few take out. Then tables slowly filled up around 7pm. Ordered their deluxe chirashidon which is not bad; they give you 2 pcs of the regular sashimi, 1 pc for botan shrimp, fatty salmon, hamachi. We have our uni substituted to scallops so I'm not sure how many you get for uni but 3pcs scallops, which I think it just 1pc uncut. We also have shrimp tempura and their project roll. Overall, the food is not bad for what you paid for. In a group of three, we ordered a 60 piece platter, two special rolls and a salmon sushi pizza and the bill came out to about $80 after tax and tips! Definitely great value. The 60 piece platter had a decent variety of sushi, sashimi and maki rolls. The rolls were the highlight for me. Most of the fish seemed pretty fresh, I thought the salmon was a tad slimy. For their special rolls, we ordered their honey mustard and lava roll. The honey mustard roll was interesting with the tanginess of the mustard comboed with a California roll but ultimately was pretty good! The sushi pizza was also decent, I thought the rice was fried to perfection. My only feedback is the salmon felt like an afterthought being thrown just on top. Browsed around Yelp for Sushi spot and found this recent opened Sushi place near my neighbourhood. They do have dine in and take out option, but we decided to call ahead and order a take out to greet our family. The price are significantly lower than other take out place in the area. The 60pcs are only $40 which is about $10 lower than other places. More rolls are generally $4.99 or $5.99, and we order the most expensive roll which is Project Roll that has eel, softshell crab and Avocado inside. Their rolls comes with only 5pcs which is fewer than other places so price reflect proportionly. The sushi and sashimi are good size and fresh. The lower price doesn't mean quality. It was a good first try, we may good back for dine in next visit. read more

I wanted to love this place, I really did. Maybe after seeing the average reviews my expectations were a little higher, but I left feeling very underwhelmed. The restaurant itself is quite nicely decorated, from the pictures on the wall, to the impeccable cleanliness of the washroom. Inside the restaurant it was very cold. They also did not bring us tea like most sushi restaurants do, we were given cold lemon water. However, if you ask they will bring you the standard hot Japanese roasted tea. So, not a problem. Honestly the hot tea was probably my favourite part of the experience. We ordered the gold sushi, sashimi, roll platter for $45. Now this isn't that expensive, but to some comparable places it's not cheap by any means. You get 65 pieces, and I have to say I was very disappointed in the quality. The salmon was good, however the white tuna (one of my favourite pieces) had terribly hard skin, and the fish still had freezer burn on it. The skin was like chewy rubber. I won't sit here and argue about the price, but 12 pieces in the set were cucumber rolls. One of the specialty rolls was was a sweet potato and cheese roll that was deep fried. The taste itself wasn't bad, but I'm not a fan of hot sushi. In terms of the rice, I would say they need more vinegar. The flavour of the sushi rice was a bit lacking. The tuna nigiri, which I want to believe was chutoro, did not taste like it. Normally with tuna it melts in your mouth and you can savour the flavour. This one was very underwhelming. Service at this restaurant was almost non-existent. No one checks up on you or comes over to take your order. You have to flag down a server for every single thing you need. I will admit that the male server was very kind, and was very accommodating. The female server I couldn't flag down. I really wanted to love this restaurant, I really did. The restaurant before it had terrible service, but their prices were so cheap you couldn't complain. Project Sushi not to be confused with Project: Fish is a Chinese operated Japanese restaurant to the north of Markham Main Street. Was there an attempt to create some sort of association with the other? My spidey sense is telling me yes. At the very least I'm certain one of the names had inspired the other. But yet the offerings are quite different. I think it's easy to qualify Project Sushi as a value play Japanese restaurant with the typical offerings. We end up getting a teriyaki chicken udon paired with a spicy imitation crab hand roll for $10 and a teriyaki salmon bento for $11. The chicken teriyaki is quite lackluster. The udon and stock was ok, nothing to write home about. The chicken teriyaki however was pale in colour and looked like it was not pan fried enough. A bit bland really. They really should consider serving the chicken separate from the soup filled udon. The salmon teriyaki bento came with a salad, miso soup, two gyozas, four pieces of California roll and rice. The seasoning for the salmon was ok but fish was definitely overcooked. If you are eating with kids it's a budget friendly place with attentive servers. Servers were very good about assigning us to a table that was warmer, giving the kids warm water, providing extra napkins without prompting. I would probably not come back on my own or with other adults with some expectations. I also can't get over the wall mural with real pictures of a lady in kimono and a scenic pic of Mount Fuji... I found it extremly tacky... definitely off coloured and may not have been affixed perfectly on the wall. Given that a few new places have launched in the east markham area since Ai sushi built a store here, I was excited to see more sushi competition. This place does have a one up on Ai sushi, as there is a proper dining area for its guest. The downfall is the quality of the food. Unfortunately due to the low prices, quality really took a hit. I ordered the roll set lunch and my partner had the chicken cutlet bento. Both were priced at an affordable $10.99 price tag. However, just a taste of the fish, I knew it was not fresh. Projects Sushi opened up recently and our usual sushi takeout place was closed so I decided to give them a try. I picked up a 80pc sashimi, sushi and roll platter and I was disappointed to say the least. In the platter I got 12pcs of avocado and cucumber roll and about 20 pcs of a deep fried sweet potato roll. So about half of it didnt even contain fish. Had it been good I probably wouldnt have minded, but it wasn't. The fish wasn't great either, low quality fish cut super thin. As bad as if not worse than AYCE sushi. It's no wonder the platters are priced so aggressively, you really do get what you pay for. For the platters they only accept cash even though they take other forms of payment for their regular menu. But don't worry the lady answering the phone will remind 5 to 6 times and 1 extra time when you go to pick up the order. We ordered the Hokkaidon, and while eating it, I noticed that they forgot our Uni. So I told our server and she got them to get us a plate of uni. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount we received as a part of our Hokkaidon. We got 6 full pieces!! They were decently fresh! Yay! The Maki and handrolls were good as well and nicely priced! Project Sushi is one of the newest opening Japanese restaurant in Markham. We were there on a Sat night at 8pm and surprisingly it is relatively empty. We got seated quickly with the menu. When we took a look, the price is quite reasonable. We ordered 2 seafood udon soup, 2 salmon tataki, two orders of botan ebi, one medium sashimi and sushi platter. Guess what, the bill included tax with 10% VIP discount came out to be $100. Wow! The size and quality of botan ebi is so memorable, a wow factor! Fresh and big size, definitely worth $8 for 3 pieces. The seafood udon soup has a whole grilled salmon teriyaki, 3 prawn, fish cakes and 2 mussels. It is no doubt that the seafood quality is better than most of the other Japanese restaurant. The medium platter is $45, with 65 pieces. Only one draw back is I prefer they have a few more pieces of sashimi instead of the rolls. Only my preference because I like sashimi more than rolls. We come here all the time for sushi platters. I called them late once they were able to accomodate my catering order and had my order ready in one hour time. We used to go to Ai Sushi across the street, but I find Project Sushi pieces are slightly bigger, look and tastes fresher, better presentation, and they give more soya sauce. My husband ordered a platter from Projects Sushi for Mother's Day. They gave him a 7:30pm slot, he got his sushi maybe 10min to 9pm. It was a 1 - 1 1/2 hr wait. He said there was no apology, people were cancelling orders, no discount - nothing. I understand businesses would want as much business that can be made during these tough times, but my take is that now is the most important time to do things properly so that they develop loyal customers. They should not have taken his order so that he could have researched other options for the evening. The food was mediocre - but I'm not expecting much for the price point.
