They have great platters for a great price! I always order pickup from here when I have parties to go to or to eat at home!

If you're looking for a place where quality sushi is affordable, Ai Sushi comes to mind. my "go-to" is always the 60 piece platter - not too much that you're left holding your stomach but enough that you're willing to share with multiple people. The platter comes with a variety of sushi, including those with raw fresh and those with cooked ingredients. The fish itself is fresh and the salmon is always thickly sliced and fatty. If you plan on getting this, I would recommend phoning ahead and ordering in advance as it does take some time to prepare. The store itself does have a couple of tables for dine-in and is neatly set, but I suspect the majority or customers order for takeout. Overall, relatively quality sushi at a reasonable price - well worth trying.

Cozy ambiance in a casual atmosphere. It's a quick and easy sushi place in Richmond Hill. Good cut in their sashimi and won't cheap out. Reasonably priced with a good portion in their party trays. I would definitely come back if I crave sushi & sashimi. Recommended.

Updated rating since my initial review: 3.5/5 Came back to Ai Sushi after many years and sadly, the quality has declined compared to when it first opened. I've noticed that their party trays aren't as good as they used to be, especially their maki (not rolled as nicely, fish quality can be inconsistent). The Chirashidon has always be my go-to here, and it's still fairly good. However, with inflation contributing to price increases, I don't know if I would say it's still as good of a deal compared to before. Substitutions for items are now charged (reasonably, I would say).

Food 5/5 Service 3/5 Vibe - idk only get takeout 60 piece of all salmon sashimi, sushi and roll for roughly $56-58 which is a very good price! Don't forget to pre-order a couple hours ahead to avoid the long wait lines~ Check out my TikTok for some video content #eatwithclaw

    40 pieces for $35

First time trying this location, but third time trying in general. I remember I was never a fan of this place, but then I saw the $35 for 40 pieces platter which got me interested. I got there at 6pm and there were lots of take out orders. Cash only if you order via online. Sashimi and sushi were surprisingly fresh, but the rolls were not. The rice had a strong vinegar taste and it was mushy - it didn't taste right. I ended up throwing out the rice. I guess this is why its relatively cheap compared to other japanese restaurants. If I were to come back, I would probably just get the sashimi platter.

This location has been my sushi take out spot for family gatherings/parties. They have decent quality sushi party trays for fair pricing. I always order the assorted tray of 80pcs to 100pcs and they never disappoint! The rolls are huge and sashimis are cut thick! You definitely get your moneys worth when ordering from them. The sashimi is good, but it's not the best quality.. you get what you pay for and it's a quick fix for a sushi craving. Definitely have to call to order and sometimes they can get really busy and may have to call a couple times to get through. Would order again for the next family gathering!

Tucked away sushi spot Service: Ordered for pick-up and had to wait to for my order, but was relatively simple. The staff confused the price/order at first, but it got sorted out. Food: The sushi/sashimi/roll variety was decent, with a mix of red tuna, salmon, surf clams, and even scallop (which you typically don't find in a platter). However, the rice was a bit firm and bland, which didn't hit the mark of top-notch sushi. Also, there were pieces of imitation crab and california roll which can be seen as "cheaping out". However, the price is fair for what you get, and the seafood was fresh (it helps that the place was really busy, and turnover is high during the holiday season). Overall: Value-for-the-money sushi at a convenient location, bit of a miss on the rice.

Ai Sushi - Deluxe Kaisendon, such a good donburri deal for fresh seafood sashimi
    Mike H.

I Love Sushi... or Ai Sushi for short?! Perhaps this is the Asian sensation of takeout sushi in the area. It's a huge step above grocery store offerings, and reasonably priced compared to higher end sushi restaurants. Their takeout is now part of our post-grocery routine during this stay home period! First off, the seafood Kaisendon is clear a winner. The fresh pieces of sashimi on rice include Botan shrimp, salmon, tuna, octopus & surf clam. Deluxe version comes with sea urchin & scallop for more umami flavour. If you're craving extra variety, their Chirashidon is similar but has tamago & marinate shiitake mushroom. Generous and quality meal. How about the house rolls? The aptly-named Ai Roll has cuttlefish for a tasty twist with salmon, avacado & a heaping mound of crabmeat. We tried it with Dynamite and Orange Dragon Rolls, which are all satisfying bites. Platters have good value too, but be warned the 40 Rolls Platter ($28) has forgettable fillers. Still its combo of rolls for 2 will fill you up! Ai Sushi may not be as authentic as J-town, but the convenience is hard to beat. Seating area is available for when things return to normal. Typically I make the call, show up in 30 minutes and take out a freshly-made meal within minutes. Easy choice to come for a colourful bowl. Sushi magic happens here!

60 pc tray - had 4pcs before pic.
    Terry C.

Decided to give this place a try as the 60pc dinner at $42.00 was a good price, along with the reviews which seemed reasonable. Sorry I did. There was no flavour to the pieces. The fish wasn't of the best quality - stringy. The roll options on the platter were a lot of the cheap ones - cucumber and avocado, fake crab, etc. While the count might seem like a lot, the sushi and roll pieces were small, maybe 1/2 the size of other places. I had to just go through the motion to eat it. This is a been there, done it place. I will not return.

Unagi don & Chirashi rice bowl

First time ordering from here. It looks like this place has been around for over 2 years...I can't believe that I only discovered this place now! The food was delicious and incredible prices. This location doesn't have cooked food other than the unagi don. Great place if you are only interested in sushi, sashimi and/or rolls. They were extremely busy last Sunday with all the take out orders. I called at 5pm and we were told the order would be ready at 7:30pm. A little late but we decided to go for it. We'll definitely place our order earlier next time. Let's just say everything was "amazing". I still can't believe that I just found this place. The chirashi (raw fish) on rice was so good for only $12.99. And you must try their Ai roll which was delicious and for only $5.99 for 4 huge pieces. I just can't wait to order from here again which will likely be this weekend.

    60 piece platter

Due to the whole pandemic, it's really given the spot light to places that do take out. Traditionally I don't picture take out sushi being very good quality, and I usually avoid it if possible. Dining in is not allowed, but the cravings dont stop. I had heard about ai sushi a long time ago when they first opened and given their pricing plus the fact that it was take out I was never really motivated to give them a try. But after getting a 60 piece platter from here, I think they may have changed my mind on getting take out sushi. Again bear in mind, this is take out sushi so expectations should be kept in check. Having said this though, for take out sushi I was quite pleasantly surprised at the price and the quality level. I have had some experiences where I paid much more and got much less on take out sushi (hence my stigma). But I would not hesitate to come back again in the near future.

Sushi sashimi roll platter. Substituted one roll for ai roll for extra $3. 40 pieces for $37 including tax

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

That's because every other guest was a well-known "regular" -- a very good sign. We were ushered through the tranquil restaurant and seated at the sushi bar, a zen ambience. We chose the $55 sushi+sashimi omakase lunch course, and it didn't disappoint. The eight pieces of nigiri featured a somewhat typical selection of fish (and hotate/scallop), but slightly edgy and unique in the choice of seasoning and flavours, prepared by Chef Takinami with all the pomp and ceremony and you would expect from fine omakase. The pacing was excellent, we never felt rushed from piece to piece; the wait staff were attentive as would be expected from a high-end Japanese restaurant, on par with omakases that cost three times as much. Overall, incredible value on the meal, for both the food and experience. We couldn't help but look around at what the regulars were enjoying (in addition to their omakase nigiri) -- botan ebi nigiri with deep fried shrimp heads, chawanmushi, cooked dishes featuring monk fish livers, tempura appetizers and more... some great ideas for our next visit!

The hot food selection was a pleasant surprise. The grilled whole squid was smoky and well-seasoned. The cheese wontons were crispy, and the addition of crab to the cream cheese filling was a nice touch. The dim sum options were also decent, with tasty har gow and shrimp siu mai. A standout was the crab claw balls, something you rarely see at AYCE spots. They were crispy and packed with umami, and easily one of our favorites.
