Finally got a chance to stop by this Japanese restaurant for a Sunday lunch. The restaurant wasn't too busy as I arrived right when they opened at noon. The food here is solid. They have several options for a set lunch combo with good portions. I got lunch set for 2 which includes: - Wafu pasta with garlic miso aioli and bacon - Hamburger steak combo which includes fries , veggies, and a fried egg - Two Nori tacos (veggie taco + salmon taco) The nori taco was a highlight - it's basically an open maki with crispy seaweed as wrapping. Could be improved with some soy sauce on the side though. What I find a little odd about this restaurant was that although they serve Japanese pasta as well as sushi, they don't give Japanese tea nor do they have coffee. So the experience feels like it's missing a piece that ties the meal together. But if you're a fan of Japanese style western food, the flying fish is definitely a place to try. Next time I might give their sushi a go.

Where do I even begin? This place is a gold mine!!!! A pure hidden gem in Richmond Hill. The restaurant inside is pretty small so we were lucky we got a table. They don't take reservations on weekends so you'll need to time it right. There is only one waitress for approx 6/7 tables so there is a bit of a time wait but she was great!!! Food: We got a set that had the following: - Miso soup: 5/5 stars. Hard to mess up. Great for a cold day. - Wafu Rose Bacon Pasta: 5/5 stars. It is an Italian fusion pasta which was so yummy! Has a bit of a kick to it spice wise and we got a large so it was huge. Def could take home for leftovers. You could for sure taste the fusion of both cultures. Must try. - Japanese Hamburger Steak: 4.2/5 stars. This was delicious! It came with fries, some veggies, rice, and homemade sauce. It was a bit on the dry side but with the sauce it was just right. The sauce was slightly too cinnamony taste for me but the brussel sprouts were to die for! - Salmon sushi taco: 4.5/5 stars. These were delicious!! There's some salmon, and crab. The seaweed taco shell was crispy and had a nice crunch. I think the rice to fish ratio was a bit off. Could have put a bit more fish but nothing to really complain about. WILL BE COMING BACK!!!!

I wanted to like Flying Fish, but the service really ruined the experience. From the start, it felt like the staff just didn't care. We had to wait way too long to be seated, even with a reservation, and once we finally got a table, it took forever for someone to even acknowledge us. The servers weren't nice either.

Food is great, service can be improved, inside can be a bit noisy due to the smaller store space. Menu has variety of options along with omakase tasting box. They have options for fusion for Japanese Italian style or traditional maki and sushi.

Finally got time to visit here after seeing lots of good reviews. It's absolutely a good experience here while supporting small and local businesses! We ordered the Hamburger Steak w/ Mornay cheese sauce, Napolitan Pasta, Set Menu for 2: Sushi Box A (14pcs) & Torched Pressed Sushi (4pcs), and the Sushi Nori Taco. Absolutely delicious, good presentations, nicely done! Among all the great items, the Sushi Box and the Nori Taco stood out pretty well. The unique texture of Nori Taco was just fabulous. Tasty and not oily at all. The charcoal aroma of the torched sushi was beautifully made as well. The great presentation also made my day, LOL! The waiter was friendly and helpful. Certainly a great dining experience. A pretty enjoyable dinner. Will come back for sure! Recommended!

First time trying The Flying Fish. This is a hidden gem located in Richmond Hill (Chalmers Gate area). Reservations are highly recommended since there are only about 10 tables in this place. We ordered Combo for Two - Set B for $54. It was perfect ... sushi is so fresh and we enjoyed the assortment which included 14 pcs of Sushi and 4 pcs of Torched Sushi. We also picked this combo out because we wanted the Sushi Tacos which are a MUST! We love the Crunchy Nori Seaweed Shell and for our choices we choose Grilled Unagi (eel) and Spicy Salmon. Such a great menu of Japanese fusion!! Will be back next time to try more like the Wafu Udon Noodles.

Back to flying fish for a pre Christmas with my GF. They now have new menu, we checked out SET B which included: 14 pieces of sushi (2 of sushi box A) Torched Pressed Sushi 4pcs (Yuzu Salmon 2pcs+Lime Shrimp 2pcs) 2x Sushi Nori Taco (we chose bbq unagi +$2 and fresh salmon) It was a very delightful meal and we enjoyed everything so much! We loved how crunchy and tasty the nori tacos and how fresh their sushi were. Pressed sushi were also on point and heavenly. We will be back for more! Amazing Japanese fusion restaurant. Ordered the Set Menu D for 2 with the Garlic Miso Aioli pasta, the Unknown Dragon roll and the Fresh Salmon and Seared Spicy Sashimi Nori tacos. In addition we got the chicken karaage with Korean sweet chili and the tempura shrimp. The sauce on the Karaage was too sweet in my opinion, I prefer a more milder sauce that isnt too overpowering. Chicken had a nice crisp with some juiciness to it. The pasta was good although not sure if the arugula was needed. They unfortunately didn't have the tofu so we went with the bacon which we found to be lacking in the dish. The rest were great sushi was full of flavour and the sushi tacos had a prefect crunch to them.

Mmmm pasta fusion dishes.

Came here again And It's still Amazing. The pasta fusion dishes are to die for. I can't wait for my next visit.

Food was good, not what we were expecting. We ordered Set C which came with a pasta (shichimi rose cream with bacon) special roll (Golden Tiger) and 2 nori tacos (fresh salmon and beef bulgogi) and included a order of takoyaki. Tacos were amazing. Beef in the bulgogi was really flavourful. Restaurant is not that big so it fills up quickly. There is a sign on the table that says seating limit is 2 hours and if it's busy (ie lineup out the door) it's only a hour. The sign also said No Cake...which I'm assuming customers should not bring a cake to the restaurant for a celebratory meal and expect them to provide plates, forks and knives to serve the cake. Service is efficient. We would come back and try some other items.

Dined in here a few times and ordered take out many times! The restaurant is a small, cozy one and it is nicely decorated inside. Staff are friendly and service is good. In terms of food, the Napolitan Pasta and Seared Spicy Sashimi Nori Taco are my favourite! I've also tried the Wasabi Crème Fraîche before and it's quite good too! The Seared Spicy Sashimi Nori Taco is so good that I'd sometimes just order one to take out as a snack! My husband tried the Hamburger Steak once and was surprised at how delicious it was that he actually ordered it again the next time we returned. We ordered a sushi set once for take out but it didn't stand out that much. However, I'd always come back for the pasta and taco!

I used to like this place. But I just visited again and it was disappointing. The portion is insanely small. The pasta dish can't even feed a kid. Mind you, it is a $19 pasta. So it is not supposed to be a kid meal size. And dry pasta is so cheap to buy. The owner is too greedy. Not going to return for a long time. It is such a rip off.

Nice chill atmosphere with Bruno Mars playing in the background (lucky me) lunch and dinner daily specials. QR code menu or order directly with staff who can willingly explain the dishes. Ordered the dinner special for 2 which includes miso soup, sashimi tacos, choice of sushi and choice of any of their pastas All items made to order, fish was fresh tasting, pasta piping hot heavy on the garlic. Dragon Royal sushi was basically deep fried shrimp wrapped in avocado and seaweed, topped with deep fried taro slivers Their dinner specials are good value for your money.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

We were ushered through the tranquil restaurant and seated at the sushi bar, a zen ambience. We chose the $55 sushi+sashimi omakase lunch course, and it didn't disappoint. The eight pieces of nigiri featured a somewhat typical selection of fish (and hotate/scallop), but slightly edgy and unique in the choice of seasoning and flavours, prepared by Chef Takinami with all the pomp and ceremony and you would expect from fine omakase. The pacing was excellent, we never felt rushed from piece to piece; the wait staff were attentive as would be expected from a high-end Japanese restaurant, on par with omakases that cost three times as much. Overall, incredible value on the meal, for both the food and experience. We couldn't help but look around at what the regulars were enjoying (in addition to their omakase nigiri) -- botan ebi nigiri with deep fried shrimp heads, chawanmushi, cooked dishes featuring monk fish livers, tempura appetizers and more... some great ideas for our next visit!

Ordered tempura vegetables and shrimp with 6 pieces total was only around $9. This tempura tasted truly delicious compared to other pricier restaurants! The whole staff greeted us the moment we came in with smile and felt their kindness/patience while we were looking through the menu. They were very accommodating with changing spicy salmon roll to dynamite roll in the dinner sushi sets for me since I don't eat spicy food. Other restaurants would always charge extra regardless if the price was the same or cheaper. The rice ratio for the rolls was PERFECT! Definitely the best one I've seen by far. I would love to try their signature rolls next time to see if they're the same. I would come here again for lunch and check them out. -1 star because: The sushi to rice ratio is a little too much so I had to take some off unfortunately. Also the salad that comes with the sets was bland, lettuce and 3 strings of beets.

The rolls were not just basic rolls, they were packed with flavour, texture (tempura bits) and had an excellent rice-meat ratio. The salmon terriyaki portion was amazing. Both my partner and I chose the $65 option and we were definitely full. Because it was Monday, we were the only ones at 11:30am and loved the experience. The restaurant did start filling up at noon, but we really enjoyed our time there. Other than the snowcrab, every single piece of sashimi and nigiri were spot on. I really don't think you can find fresh fish and such excellent service for this price. A normal meal is around $40 nowadays, so why not treat yourself a little better and come to ATO?
