VIPS Sushi takeout
Ann B.

December 6, 2020 - The night before I was at the restaurant beside VIPS Sushi (Chung Chun Rice Dog), I noticed that VIPS was quite busy. So I decided to get it the next day. Me being glutton I ordered not 1 but 3 sushi dishes. - White Tuna Tataki 5/5 - White Dragon 4/5 - Lady in Red 4/5 The portions are huge!! I never knew that they were so big. I really thought regular sized sushi (bite size like the ones you buy at the Asian grocery stores already packaged). These were so big I could only eat a few of them at a time. It really took me like 3days to eat it. The flavours were very good and the portions are huge. I will definitely go back to try something new (1 order at a time)

Large party tray 09 (30 sushi + 58 maki)... too many dragon rolls for my preference
Polly W.

Order: PT09 (Party Tray - Large Sushi + Maki) PT09 has 88 pieces. Of the 58 maki there are 6 dragon rolls. These are very big/filling but I personally prefer regular maki for the classic flavour + that it is bite size (really like the salmon avocado, california is also nice). Next time I'd order the PT05 or PT 06 that includes sashimi + only 2 or 3 dragon rolls. Some is alright, but 6 is way too much. -- Price: Not great Google menu shows $89.99. Website is 30% higher at $116.59. Oddly, the bill was $105.99, maybe 10% off for paying in cash. -- Overall: Ok sushi (fish is sliced thin), but can get better quality elsewhere Tip: Big rolls taste better next day/refrigerated

Big dynamite roll

I wasn't expecting much since I ordered my maki rolls from a delivery app and was expecting the quality to worsen by the time it arrived to my home. My maki rolls ended up exceeding my expectations. It was actually so good that I'm still thinking of my meal hours later. I ordered the black dragon roll, torched tuna tataki roll and dynamite roll. Each roll was so BIG and FAT with good filling to rice ratio. Sure, the torched parts of my maki rolls were not as warm by the time it arrived to my house, but the overall quality of the roll still tasted great. Will return in the future.

We ordered the white Christmas and white dragon sushi rolls along with a side of salmon sashimi. To start off, the service was really good and our waitress was very welcoming. Please note there are only 8 seats (2 tables of 4). Looks as though a lot of locals come here for pickup takeout orders only. So this is definitely not a date night spot. The sushi we ordered were huge but not as great as other places. I'd definitely come here for takeout but not coming to dine in. Payment options: Cash or Debit only

I just moved into the area and was craving some sushi so I checked to see what was close by... VIPS sushi came up and had pretty good reviews so I said why not. Holy smokes, was I Blown Away by the incredible flavor and freshness of the sushi! The waiter was super helpful in helping me to decide what I should order and recommended I get the white dragon roll and spicy salmon! Literally the best decision I've made all day. The portions are huge and the price point is right On target! I don't know if I should be happy that I found this place or upset because I'm definitely going to be spending alot of my time here... If you're roaming around Yonge Street and looking something to eat I would highly recommend you check this place out! You may even see me there... 5 stars for freshness and service!!

Outstanding sushi rolls at a reasonable price. Located on a small street on Yonge, VIPS Sushi definitely doesn't look visually appealing -- but it's a cheap sushi takeout joint, and it definitely does that well. We came in on a Friday evening for takeout, but ended eating in. There are two small tables, which can seat 4 people each, so don't really plan on eating in at VIPS, it's very much a takeout joint. I found pricing reasonable. The White Dragon roll was my favourite. Will definitely visit again!

Black Dragon Roll (~$13) Small hole in the wall, fits 8 people. More of a takeout place! For 8 large pieces with avocado, fake crab meat, tempura shrimp. The eel was torched and was so creamy. The mayo sauce on top had a really flavourful taste to it. There was a more spicy sauce on the side and I loved how it wasn't too spicy.

Large combination special
Julie H.

Ordered the large combination special for a party of 4 (sashimi, sushi & rolls). When my friend and I went to pick it up, we thought that it was too little food for all 4 of us (we love to eat and eat a lot!). My other friend who frequently order from here reassured us that it would fill us up. The sashimi pieces were soo fresh. The sushi had adequate rice and a kick of spice since there was wasabi in it. The rolls were huge. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and would definately order from them again. Oh, it was actually very filling and we weren't able to finish it all. VIPS 1: Julie 0

1 rainbow and 1 spicy tuna and 12 nigiri and 9 sushi combo.
Robert H.

We ordered 2 row and nigiri and sushi combo. It's fresh and delicious. The size of roll is huge so it justifies the price. There are many take out orders and I can see why. 58 dollars tax in. We can't even finish ending up take half roll home.

Scallop tataki roll
Sonia C.

Since we enjoyed the white tuna tataki roll so much, we were in the area today so decided to get that again AND to try another roll. We had the white tuna tataki roll PLUS the scallop tataki roll and OMGOSHHHHHH, it was soooo good! Seriously aburi sushi vibes again. I honestly usually dislike rolls because i find them incredibly boring but it's safe to say i LOVE VIPS' rolls. No wonder there's always heaps of people waiting outside. I cant wait to go back to try more!

Miranda G.

This was okay but not as good as Sushi Bong. They torch the rolls but the fillings aren't good enough to justify the price. I recommend ordering in advance to avoid the waiting and heavy smell of tempura deep frying. Call instead of using an app, I had to wait 20 mins+ even after the app said it was ready.

Edamame. Too much for one person - should be shared by at least one other person.

Great quick sushi but I feel like they are mainly known for the spicy salmon themed rolls--spicy salmon pizza, sunset roll, etc.

The nigiri was decent on both deliveries with the rolls being a tad above average. I was tempted to order a bowl but wanted a more filling option. With my go to spot for sushi delivery not showing any signs of revival. This might fill the void for now. 3.5 stars

The menu includes delicate cuts of fatty tuna (otoro and chutoro), buttery Hokkaido uni, and beautifully marbled salmon that practically melts in your mouth. There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else. Drinks were a nice touch too.. refreshing, nicely presented, and added to the overall experience. Overall, this feels like a solid spot for a casual night out with friends.
