4.5 I think this resto is under new ownership. We've ordered from here for pick up for the first time about two months ago and the food was great. Fresh, good quality, and good portion sizes. They seem really busy as there were several bags for pick up when we were there. Ordering is a breeze, we usually do it by the phone and the service is friendly. They have sushi with mango on it which is a big hit for the kids. Sushi pizza is very yummy. We've since ordered 3 times and it's solid each time. We haven't eaten in yet so can't speak to the ambience but it's very cute inside. read more

Really enjoyed the sushi here. The white dragon roll was good with the torched butterfish on top. The aburi sushi was delicious as well. For the spicy scallop roll I wish there were more scallop pieces than the crunchy bits. Overall it's good sushi here and nearby my area too! read more

I enjoyed the sushi here. We ordered the small sushi and Maki platter and two handrolls. This was shared between two people which was a good portion. My friend ordered the lion king roll and rainbow roll, which looked like was a much bigger portion. Don't bother. Everything about our take-out order was wrong. Wrong dishes. Wrong number of dishes. Wrong number of items in the dishes. Even after driving there to pick it up, driving home, realizing everything was wrong calling them about it, having to negotiate getting the right dishes, driving there and back again, the food was still not worth my time. D&Y Sushi is a 5 minute car ride from JP. Go there. They're good. Or go across the street to the Westwood Grill, or next door to Buddha Pie. But don't bother with JP. read more

I've ordered delivery from here twice. The first time, I would have rated it 3/5. This time they got the sashimi wrong--ordered maguro, got hamachi. I paid extra for brown rice and got white. The kimchi was on the funky side, really shouldn't have been sold. But what angered me the most is that I asked for "extra ginger". Extra ginger for all of the items, specifically, as we all love it and eat it with each bite. I was so specific. Even happy to pay extra for it. And they gave us, literally, four extra pieces of ginger in a thimble sized container. This attempt to save themselves a dime's worth of ginger has resulted in my never ordering from here again. Really a big fan of this place. Freshly prepared sushi at a competitive price. Friendly service. Before you go... Know that parking is not all that easy. Located near Runnymede and Annette at the northeast corner, it is a challenge to find close parking. Also, seating is limited. Better place for take out, though if you are lucky, you can snag one of the 5-6 tables/booths. read more

As much as I love sushi and given the half decent food (not to mention I live 100 metres from the restaurant) I can't come back to a place that has no need for walk in customers. The service is poor both front and back of the house and unapologetically so. The convenient location has kept this place afloat but I'd much rather it was a green grocer and JP sushi operated as a take out only place, since that's how they act anyway. Great neighbourhood sushi restaurant. It's owned by a friendly couple and always nice to see local businesses thrive in the busy downtown area, with a sushi restaurant on every corner. I ordered the Chirashi lunch special (12.95) for 12 pieces. The fish was fresh and the portions were large. This place really confuses me. I enjoy their kani maki and tako/octopus sushi, however one on my favourite rolls is shrimp tempura - which they .... just refuse to make? I live down the road and whenever I called in an order I'd ask to order a shrimp tempura roll and they say no. There is shrimp tempura in their other rolls but they won't offer it on it's own... very strange and find their staff to be unnecessarily difficult. Have only visited here twice or so and gave up after paying expensive prices for sushi that wasn't what I wanted. Pass. read more

This cozy sushi place popped up in the old Mark and Sparky's BBQ restaurant space in a neighbourhood that desperately needed a good sushi restaurant! Checked it out for lunch last week. We arrived right at opening at 12pm and ordered the sushi pizza ($6.95), shrimp tempura ($8.95) and 18 piece spicy rolls lunch special ($14.95). Complimentary green tea came steaming hot! I was super impressed by the sushi pizza - a thin pizza crust topped with delicate pieces of salmon and white fish with thin slices of avocado! Elegant but also super tasty. Shrimp tempura was perfectly deep fried and the spicy rolls were extremely soft and fresh tasting! JP Sushi has a tiny dining room, probably only seats about 12-14 people so if you go at peak times, there will be a wait. I've heard from the neighbourhood grapevine that take out orders during peak dinner times can also be a longish wait. I was still impressed with the food and service. Will definitely be back for future lunches! read more

This place just opened up in a small residential area, and doesn't have a website so I felt a Yelp page was needed for those of us who search forever for online menus. The dining area is tiny so more suited for takeout - which is what I got. The experience was fast and friendly! The fish was fresh and the take out preparation was top notch - it was even presented nicely :). I got the sashimi dinner which was heavy on the salmon (not a problem for me as I was debating getting the salmon dinner instead haha) and the spicy salmon hand roll (which was stuffed with salmon! Excellent salmon to rice ratio). The sashimi dinner came with the usual sides - miso soup, salad, rice. So happy this is in the area now - will solve all locals' sushi cravings. read more

I have been going here since it opened. Yesterday i learned they have switched management. Which was very disappointing. The service was slow, and rude. By the end I didn't even receive what I had actually ordered. I took it to go, so i was unaware till much too late. I am also disappointment in the tempura. This place once had the best tempura shrimp. Now they have changed the batter and it's not pleasant. The tempura is too crunchy. The sauce itself has far to much ginger. It kinda taste like pop. They also coat some sashimi, like ebi with ginger. Just an overall thumbs down from me. read more

I've visited JP Sushi maybe a total of 10 times when I lived in the area, but only because it is the only japanese/korean restaurant in Annette/Runnymede neighbourhood. They definitely use fresh, high-quality ingredients, but the flavour is rather lacklustre. I've tried a couple of different rolls/platters, udon, pork cutlet, and bento boxes, but everything was just average/below average. Perhaps I have higher standards for sushi as i lived in the downtown core for a really long time. Service could be good or bad depending on the who's serving you. One time a waiter was taking my order and the phone rung, so he just walked away without a word to pick up the phone and left us hanging for a few minutes. read more

It's OK. It's not great. It's a few blocks from my house, so it's good that it's close. There was a change in management several months ago, and the food is not as good. Esp. their Hwe Dup Bap. They just can't seem to wrap their heads around it. The previous chef was brilliant at it - plenty of Sashimi in bite sized bits, but not too small. Crab cut lengthwise and stripped into strings. Salad with more than lettuce - a bit of carrot, onion, and a really nice dressing. That's how it was. A few months ago, I got Hwe Dup Bap, and they cut the crab crosswise in chunks that were about 1.5 cm long. So, of course it turned into micro crab bits as the strings disintegrated. I complained. Next time it was done correctly, although the salad was weak. Today I ordered it and the salad was bland - I don't think they put dressing on it - and there was no crab at all. Ugh. For the most part they have dropped the ball on the Hwe Dup Bap. The sushi rolls are fine, but not spectacular. Sashimi is Sashimi, so that's hard to screw up, and they don't. Their sushi is better than what you get at Metro, but not by a lot. It's food. It's OK. I miss the previous chef. He was great. read more

Just had lunch at JP Sushi for the first time. Ordered the lunch Bento box special along with a side order of Sake Sushi. The fish tasted very fresh. The rice was the proper temperature. Quite tasty. Yes, seating is limited, but, that's typical of a quality Sushi place. A single Japanese trained sushi chef, cannot be expected to turn out high volume with quality and consistency. So I don't mind this, as I know it usually means there is better chance of quality control with a smaller crowd. At the same time, with larger establishments, there is more risk of Sushi not being as fresh as restaurants may over buy during slow times. The decor is very clean, neat and well designed. The service was pleasant. I came near the end of lunch period so there wasn't any crowds to deal with. Pricing was very reasonable, especially at lunch. I found out too late, but they even had Toro sushi (tuna belly) available and usually do, which is a nice thing to know for next time. Most other places I have been to in the GTA have it on the menu, but never have it available. I will be back. read more
