This was a last minute take out via UberEats. My go to sushi spot no longer offering the sushi set I am relegated to below average sushi (read a step above grocery store level) so tend to order filler items. They had a promo on the chicken karage and miso soup so added them as well to make a couple of meals out of the food. Hmm the spicy crab roll was OK kind of what I expect at this price point. Not a lot of kick to it. Karage was so so. Small pieces of meat with a forgettable batter and again a mild dipping sauce. Miso soup was also what I expected at this price point. Hmm not impressed 2.5 stars that's considering all the promo prices.
This is one of my go-to's for casual sushi in dt Toronto! The yellowtail jalapeño roll is my FAVOURITE I get it every time and I've never seen it anywhere else. Only thing is that sometimes the jalapeño is really spicy and sometimes it's not. The torched salmon aburi is also delicious. The salmon is soft, the sauce is so good and has just the right amount of spice Lastly, the prices aren't bad at all!
I ordered from their express version on UberEats a few times, and true to its name, it's indeed among the fastest places to get its food delivered well ahead of expected arrival. The quality is pretty mediocre, which is understandable given the relatively cheap prices - but at least it's consistently mediocre (i.e., no really good or bad experiences). They often have buy 1 get 1 free deals offered which is nice as well. Essentially, you are getting what you signed up for so can't really complain. :)
The place is small it has only four tables but the service and food was delicious. I'm hoping the Spring and summer bring the patio to life as the location is vibrant. The food was amazing and while I was there eating the place was super busy with people picking up food, in fact it was none stop. The prices are more than reasonable and hope if you are in the district that you will give this place a try. See pictures
Ordered a party tray online. Salmon and Butterfish were very obviously spoiled. Called the restraunt to have it corrected. Didnt want to eat anything after having rotten fish in my mouth (it was aweful). James offered no support except to call uber eats. Theyre closed (covid related no doubt). So now im out $60, have been turned off of food for the evening, played phone tag with James for an hour, and have to wait for this pandemic to be over before i can attempt to get my money back. Worst customer service ever. This place used to be good. But looking at other reviews it seems to have nose dived and i fell victim to it.
I like the neighbourhood this sushi restaurant is in, and the set up of the restaurant is nice. It is a small place but has a coziness to it. The service was very quick. I enjoyed the spicy salmon crunch roll that I ordered. The fish was very fresh, so important with sushi. If I'm in the area I'll come back as the prices were affordable.
they have the best Philadelphia roll in the down，it s so yummy and creamy，I highly recommend this restaurant for people who love sushi/Japanese food. It is worth to be known.
I order sushi from these guys about 4-5 times a week (via skip, foodora & ubereats) (yeah I know... Weird lifestyle lol) and they are usually great. But today I have received the worst sushi I've probably ever eaten in my life. The rolls are not even rolled properly, the all have stained rice (I guess from soy? I don't know...), Avocado Salmon with a hint of Avocado, and disgusting pieces of extremely chewy salmon as if they managed to combine this roll from garbage leftovers.. I'll give them a try again, hopefully this won't repeat because they are usually great Fire the person who made these today (trust me, you won't be regretting it).
The food is good and the price is right. This restaurant is pretty casual and gives out a diner vibe, nothing fancy. Don't let that fool you, though, cuz the food is fantastic. I came here for dinner on a week night and it was pretty empty. We got a nice seat by the window that overlooked Church St. The waitress was nice and friendly. There were many options on the menu, including scallops! Here's what I tried: Seaweed Salad $4 - Pretty good and nice size. Deep fried beef dumplings $4 - I would order these again. Fire Cracker Dream $5 - Scallop, tempura flakes, spicy mayo. This was good, especially since I was in the mood for scallops. Moscow Roll - $8/5pcs - Salmon, tuna, hamachi, green onion, cream cheese deep fried w/special house sauce. MAN, this was DELICIOUS! The cream cheese thing is not for everyone, but I LOVE IT! The texture was great (crunchy and creamy) and the sauce was fantastic bursting with flavor. I would come back for these in a heartbeat. Just for this, 5 stars. Large Hot Sake - $7 - Drinkable :) My vegetarian friend was happy because there were more vegetarian options than just salad and edamame. They have several vegetarian sushi rolls on the menu (e.g. Asparagus Roll, Deep Fried Sweet Potato Roll, Shiitake Mushroom Roll, etc.).
I came by during a visit to Toronto, as I had seen some good reviews. I was immediately greeted and seated, and offered the full menu plus the lunch special. While I did intend on having sashimi and nigiri, the lunch special of 3 rolls plus miso soup couldn't be beat at $13. I selected the salmon avocado roll, the pepper tuna avocado roll and the jalapeño hamachi roll. All were great, with fresh ingredients and good rice (amount and quality). The miso soup was superb, and included enoki mushroom. Bonus for YELPers!! When you check in and spend more than $20 before tax they give you a free small hot sake. Highly recommended.
Ordered delivery for a small group of us and enjoyed everything. Some previous reviews mentioned bad sushi, but everything we had was fresh and yummy! Would order from here again.
I was on a mission to get gluten free Japanese. I tried my best but still received imitation crab in the eel roll though I stayed an allergy. When I spoke to the restaurant they said there was also gluten in the eel. So no go there, but it's he great thing about the roll was it had more goods than rice! So if you don't like a lot of rice in your sushi, I totally recommend this. The grilled squid was GF as I asked for no sauce. The thing is it didn't taste grilled but kinda steamed. Not like calamari at a Greek place. There were no grill lines and this no char broiled taste. Otherwise, decent slightly spicy squid. The eggplant was good though I'd put a bit of rice miso for more umami and salt flavour. The sashimi salad was nice and fresh and GF if you don't add the dressing. There was a light flavour to all the dishes which may lack flavour but shows their food as more health conscious than most take out.

I tried the spicy crunchy salmon and it was incredible. The salmon was super fresh, the crunch was perfect, and the spice hit just right without being overwhelming. You can tell they care about quality. One of the best sushi rolls I've had in Toronto! thanks Chef Emily read more

After a good amount of day drinking, my buddies and I needed some food in our bellies before proceeding to start our night drinking. We picked this spot for its convenient location to all the bars we wanted to visit. First things first, make sure you check in here for a free sake offer. My buddies, who don't yelp at all, were impressed by this and have now become yelpers. For our appetizer, we decided on having spicy edamame. Served warm, it's pretty standard, pretty good. For my dinner, I decided to have a teriyaki chicken bento box. Chicken was good, not great. It was served with vegetable tempura, a California roll, rice, and pot stickers. The sides were again fine, not great. Prior to getting your box, you are served a salad with ginger dressing and a miso soup. The former was actually really good, great dressing. The latter was probably the worse miso soup I've ever had at a Japanese restaurant. It tasted like lightly flavored water and wasn't worth the calories. Employees here are super nice and the restaurant itself is quaint and decorated super cute. All that being said, I felt like the food quality was pretty average and I don't really see the need to return on my next visit to Toronto. read more

We arrived shortly before 2pm; although the lunch menu is offered until 3pm, we were not given the lunch menus to start with. A fellow patron told us to ask for a lunch menu. I wish it was offered to us when we walked in, I didn't like having to ask for it. Otherwise, the food is excellent and the service is great:) PS: I did this for the FREE SPRING ROLLS ^_^ read more

THE WORST RESTAURANT EVER!!! I wrote my phone number wrong, and I admit that its my fault. I could accept if they asked for extra delivery fee, but THE LADY YELLED AT ME!! SHE YELLED AT ME LIKE I SLEPT WITH HER BOYFRIEND!!! 20min later I got my order.I only took the photo of terriyaki, which is the MOST DISGUSTING ONE!! I also ordered shrimp tempura udon and spicy salmon roll and everything is THE MOST DISGUSTING FOOD I HV EVER SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE!! The salmon and shrimp are both STINKY! And the tempura still has shell!! Shrimp with shell all over it!!!!!!!!!i am not gonna order it again and i hope the store would shut down tomorrow! the food is just disgusting!i hope no one would ever order it! read more

Stopped in while visiting Toronto for the day, and very happy that I did. Excellent quality sashimi, and the "Enter the dragon" roll was delicious. Perfectly topped it off with a glass of plum wine. Great presentation and the service was pleasant and friendly. Not the best picture (my fault), because I realized halfway through the meal that this place deserved a good review. read more
I'm actually fairly disappointed with my takeout platter that I ordered from here. Judging by the high rating and the seemingly delicious looking photos, I was pretty excited to get the regular party tray (which contained sushi, sashimi, and maki rolls) so I could try a little of everything. It was $45 for 45 pieces (plus tax), so essentially a little over $1/pc and let me assure you... for the quality of what I got, I would definitely not order it again. Albeit the rolls were fine (good salmon to rice ratio), the cuts of fish from the sashimi/sushi weren't that fresh, the variety was very limited, and I nearly sliced my mouth from a fish scale that I found in one of my pieces of sushi... Overall, the platter was just disappointing. Not worth the money. Would not recommend. read more

Another great visit at Kawa Sushi Service was quick and sushi was really fresh. We ordered a mix Sushi and Sashimi plate. Beef enoki roll was tasteful. We stopped by for a quick bit before heading to a concert, parked on the street, in and out within 45mins. Speedy service, just wonderful every time. The owner recommended a new sparkling grapefruit jelly SAKE !! It was unique and delicious for a hot day. Go try it out, you cannot buy at LCBO. Highly recommended read more

Very poor food preparing and delivery handling. Part of the sushi isn't cut though which leaves a very thick piece. On the other hand, the soy sauce was spilled everywhere, on the napkins, the chopsticks and on the sushi. The overall presentation is a total disaster. This is unbelievable. It's the worst takeout experience that I have ever had so far. PS: I will post the photos. read more

Stumbled upon this place late in the evening. Got their udon with tempura and was not disappointed. The tempura ratio is really good, not too much Panko or too little. The udon texture is just right. Would definitely comeback again! read more
I was expecting Kawa to wow me just a bit more, but in the end while their food was good and worth the money ($15 for a sushi combo featuring around 8 or so different types of sushi and a hand roll) I was not a fan of of simple things like the fact that the food did take some time to get to us despite there being only 1 other table before us and that it didn't completely blow me away. Make no mistake, Kawa is certainly miles above your average tiny sushi joint in terms of the quality so I would most definitely visit here once again especially given their convenient location to me. I was a big fan of their miso soup though because instead of having the same tried out formula you see in almost all other sushi joints, their miso soup tasted different and actually had a solid amount of enokitake mushrooms which I'm always a fan of. Their salad too was tasty and had a good dressing on it. A couple of things they could have done at their own expense to earn an extra star was to have brought me a glass of water as everyone else opted for water while I went for tea, and when one guy in our group didn't have soup and salad included in his meal they could have brought him over something at least. I know it seems a little harsh to criticise a business for not providing free stuff, but that sort of thing has happened to me in the past and could really enhance the experience. Overall, satisfied with the food, but they still have a few details to hammer out to be completely awesome in my book. read more
