I work in the area so I occasionally get Hug Sushi for lunch - they have a few lunch specials which are affordable and come with salad and miso soup. Hug Sushi is a takeaway sushi restaurant located in Times Square, closer to the Hwy 7 side. It's underneath Dahu Hotpot & Dimsum. I strongly recommend ordering online or by phone ahead of time, as they don't have anywhere to wait if you order in person. They can also be busy during peak times, around 5-7pm. The fish is fresh and the service is good. Hug Sushi has never let me down before and I actually do prefer them over other takeaway sushi restaurants in the area. Note that they only take cash or debit, so be prepared!
Second time ordering from Hug sushi and it did not disappoint! Ordered the 60pc assorted platter (subbed the other sashimi for salmon sashimi for extra $$) and got black dragon roll and green dragon roll on the side. Sushi looked good and fresh. The sashimi slices were thick, and the rolls were huge! It was just the three of us attacking the platter, but we were not able to finish it! Prices are pretty decent compared to a lot of sushi places for their decent quality of sushi. They accept cash only for their platters.
Great value and good quality fresh fish. This is an excellent option for take out. Good variety in their party trays, including scallops, octopus, and tuna. I keep coming back.

The staff who took my order over the phone spoke kindly and confirmed everything. Order was ready quickly. I ordered green dragon roll 10 pieces and torched salmon roll 8 pieces. Food was delicious - even though the "torched salmon" tasted more like grilled/fried. Price was decent too - 7.99 for salmon and 10.99 for green dragon (okay maybe the green dragon roll isn't really worth that price ...). The only downside would be that the rolls fell apart when you pick them up. Otherwise I will surely come back!

Food quality has always been stable, it's convenient and efficient to place phone order and so far, unlike faltering Ai Sushi, Hug sushi never misses or messes up our orders. But Hug only accepts cash payment.

Needless to say we have had a number of disappointments and usually end up back at Ai Sushi, as many other reviewers have mentioned. We have tried the more premium sushi platters from our local area and were left largely unimpressed for the price point and what was offered. Going out on a limb we found Hug sushi in place of where the old Ichiban sushi place was. A quick browse of their online menu showed that their price point was not bad, in fact quite on point with Ai Sushi, and looking at pictures online we decided to give them a chance, and we were pleasantly surprised. During initial phone order, they were quick to pick up. While placing the order they noted that they were out of Uni for the platter we were ordering and would we like to substitute something. Bonus points for being up front and informing us and giving us a choice rather then just not telling us at all and substituting something random. Order was ready in 20 minutes, and was exactly as described in their online menu. Sushi was just the right amount of rice. The salad included the dressing on the side which we appreciated. For the price point and what was offered I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or go back to Hug Sushi
I see why this place has 4 stars reviews. I will give it 4.5 stars with the roundup to 5 stars. I've ordered twice now, both for my two kid's birthdays. I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality and freshness of the rolls and sushi! This will be my go to take out sushi establishment for the pandemic. I only wish I had found it earlier. The party platters are terrific! Great job Hug Sushi, welcome to the neighborhood.
Back again at Hug Sushi. I saw mentions of 10% off with cash in previous reviews but they no longer offer a cash discount. In fact the whole place is just cash / debit. Prices still seem reasonable though - $11.49 for 10 piece red dragon roll and $7.49 for Hug roll. Good place to satisfy your sushi cravings but of course don't expect too much given the price range. For instance, the pieces aren't cut evenly and the salmon parts of the rolls aren't that significant.
I think Hug Sushi is quickly becoming my go to spot to order giant sushi platters for family dinners! The prices for the platters are really affordable. We usually get the 80 piece sushi/sashimi/roll platter for $53. We just call ahead, which usually takes them 30mins to make, and come in for pick up. If you're paying in cash you get 10% off, but they do take debit cards as well. The sushi pieces are quite fresh, and I'm a huge fan of the jumbo prawn and scallop sashimi that you don't find at many similar takeout sushi joints. The cuts of the fish are quite generous as well, so for 80 pieces, it was very filling for the 4 of us for dinner.

Second time ordering from Hug sushi and it did not disappoint! Found another good place to order on Uber Eats. Although the sushi was fresh, it lacked a bit of sweetness...the maki rolls were really good and we really enjoyed the unagi don (BBQ Eel on rice). The prices were reasonable but probably cheaper if we did pick up but I'm sure a lot of you are like us trying to minimize the number of trips out unless it is for grocery run. We will definitely add this to our list of places to order on Uber Eats for our Friday/Saturday Take-out dinner. read more

We ordered Combo 808 today for a Christmas party. We found a huge fish bone within one of the Salmon avocado maki, as seen on photo. Glad that it was caught by an adult. If it was eaten by a kid, that would be very dangerous. This is such a low level mistake for a sushi chef. Good luck and be careful all! read more

During this difficult times and being self quarantined at home, I got tons of time to catch up on my J-drama. By doing so, I got the crave for some sushi and came across with this place. This was located in Times Square, exact unit that Kim's Ichiban used to be. We frequently ordered from that so we decided to give it a shot to the new owner. We didn't order ahead, not knowing how busy it would be so we took a risk. They were quite busier than expected but still able to take our order. We ordered the Sashimi-sushi-rolls 60pcs. It took them 10-15 mins to prep it so it was quicker than expected. Overall quality was better than expected. Sashimi were fresh and sweet, rolls were great without being too saucy. Their spicy salmon was just spicy enough to not cover the salmon. Price was decent, $40+tax which was on the cheaper end compare to most take-out sushi place. read more
I am joining other Yelpers to send my love to Hug. For a takeout sushi place, you cannot get better freshness and variety without upping to the price by a lot. The food quality-portion-price ratio here is high. If you can pay more, you can get better fish somewhere else. But if the budget fits, Hug is a very competent choice. Fast and friendly services on the phone and during pick up. Overall, 4.0 stars. Will return. Will recommend. read more
Decent prices for the quality offered. Have heard about many people recommending this place for a long time. Was here for meet up for my side business, and wanted something to eat. Ordered the black dragon roll & spicy Salmon maki. Both are really good and nicely presented. The staffs are also very nice and friendly. My order was prepared very fast as well. Really impressed by the value here. For the same price at other places, you get way less food, and the quality would be similar, if not worse! I don't think I can justify getting take home sushi anywhere else again since I live relatively close. I did notice that the online ordering system was closed during a particularly busy period (dinner time on a weekend), so definitely need to plan ahead or be patient. The other caveat is that the platters are cash only. You could definitely get better quality elsewhere, but you'd be paying way way more. If you just want a good sushi fix that won't break the bank, Hug Sushi is a great choice. read more
When you get that sushi craving but you don't want to break the bank. I always order their combo that comes with a little bit of everything sashimi, maki etc. The service was good and the quality for years I stay the same which says a lot especially through Covid . Especially for the fact, that would take out I would say it's definitely fresh . definitely my go to place when we're a large group of people recommend for parties or even yourself if you're a big sushi fan great bang for your buck hands-down. read more

Pretty happy with its sashimi-sushi-maki party tray! I ordered through Uber eats too. I got the 40 pcs. Overall good mix of everything and portion is reasonable. The sashimi is quite fresh and not fishy at all, but at the same time I can't say they are super flavorful. salmon is fatty and good thickness too. The sushi has some room for improvement. There is not too much rice for the sushi. And the rice lacks the vinegar flavor but it's pretty common for sushi party trays take out. The Maki again I think the rice can be better but the size and rice ratio are good. Before trying this I always buy from Yu sushi because of the cheap price but now I feel like I have one more option. Prices are pretty similar maybe $1-2 more than Yu. read more
If you are familiar with Ai Sushi, then you'll know what you're getting at Hug Sushi. They basically have the same offering (particularly the party trays) at similar price points, serving the same market (affordable sushi with decent quality) I have been to both Ai sushi and Hug Sushi a number of times, and my personal preference goes to Hug Sushi. First reason is the the quality is a bit better at Hug Sushi. Not only in terms of food quality, but the skill at rolling. The rolls are always perfect at Hug sushi. The rolls from Ai Sushi, on the other hand, are often poo poo and definitely need more training in how to roll. "pee pee poo poo" as Kevin O'Leary would call it. Secondly, the service is much better at Hug Sushi. More often than not, I've been left bewildered regarding the service at Ai Sushi as if they don't care about their customers and they're sloppy with how they deal with things. Hug Sushi service has always been great thus far. Lastly, the wait times. It seems like no matter what you order from Ai Sushi, there will be an hour wait. When you arrive, you wait even longer. If it's a weekend or holiday, it can take 2+ hours to get your order. Hug Sushi doesn't do this... they actually manage their logistics properly. All in all, try them both and see which one fits you best. read more
I live this place. It's been my go too place for sushi ever since I tasted it., The presentation is nicely done. I always take the combo menu 802- 35 pieces with something else on the side and it get me full every time! The presentation time is fairly quickly. And the service is good. The sushi is as fresh as you can get it for delivery/pick up sushi! You're able to order by phone or Ubereats. The prawns they add in the middle of the 802 pieces are so good and juicy! Definitely recommend this place. read more
Wanted to try this spot since the reviews are good on Yelp. But was left with disappointment. The salmon was not fresh at all.. the colouring was so off that after eating one piece I just threw the rest out. The sushi was okay. The spicy salmon/tuna was very bland and barely got any tempura bits. Even though the place may be cheap but there's so many affordable sushi places now. For any restaurant to put those pieces of salmon sashimi on the platter, they definitely don't care what customers put into their stomach. Never coming back here and will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was looking for a decently priced sushi place that wasn't too far along highway 7 and came across Hug Sushi. The menu and platters reminded me of Ai Sushi from the rolls that were included to how the platters were styled. We opted for the 80pcs for $53. If you pay cash, you get 10% off. We ordered ahead of time so there was no wait when we got there. The platter came with an assortment of sashimi of the usuals (sashimi, tuna, tilapia etc.) and some more premium items like scallop, octopus and large shrimp. The rolls included a California roll, spicy salmon, green dragon, red dragon, a salmon with avocado roll and a avocado cucumber roll. I really enjoyed the rolls as I found their sushi rice super fragrant with the black and white sesame seeds. They also top off some of their rolls with orange and black caviar which is a nice added touch. I do find their rolls and nigiri light on the rice side compared to AI sushi so it's a matter of preference. I like a bit more rice in my rolls. We ordered this platter for a party of three and were about 75% full. So if you are a bigger sushi eater you may need more. Overall, I enjoyed this sushi platter for their variety, price, taste and minimal wait time. If you are in the area and looking for some cheap, but delicious sushi, check this place out. read more
On a recent business trip to Markham due to Covid there was a lack of restaurants open because of the patio rule or takeout rule. So feeling like a soosh dinner I turned on my trusty Yelp app and found that this gem was within walking distance of my hotel. Awesome find and great that I could get some exercise there and back from dinner. I ordered a 40 piece sushi-sashimi dinner. Yes you may think this is a ton for one person. It was a bit too much. So I ate what I could and put the rest in my hotel fridge and ate the next day. Let me preface that some of the pieces are a bit smaller however everything was fresh and mega delish! Great selection and I'm a big believer that great food needs to entice you with its appearance. I will definitely return back and check this little star of a resto out again! Thanks. read more
Reason for Visit: Found this on Yelp and decided to give this take out sushi a try. Ai Sushi is getting kind of boring. Menu: So I opted for their 45 pieces sushi/sashimi tray for $40 (total including tax as there was a cash 10% discount). As you can see in the photo, the value is there as there is even scallops/ unis. No rolls at all so honestly speaking, this tray was great value for $40. You pay a tiny bit more ~$7 ish than the usual assorted tray but you get a lot more and no filler rolls. The fish was fresh, sashimi was very generous and as other Yelpers mentioned, the rice to fish portion was great. Only thing is I do find their rice falling off a bit, but that might had just been me keeping it in the refrigerator for an hour. You technically aren't supposed to refrigerate sushi rice so maybe I screwed it up. It is way too hot these days. Service: Take out service was efficient. Just call ahead, pay and get your stuff and go. No hassle, it is fast and simple. Overall: It is a bit pricier than Ai Sushi, but you def get extra quality in exchange. So if you are looking for the cheapest option then Ai Sushi is still the best on the market. But if you want to spice up your dinner a bit, then this is a great option. read more

Take out sushi joint in Richmond Hill. Pretty straightforward. I would say they're above average but not too much above average. Everything seemed fresh enough. I ordered online for pickup at 7:30pm and received a text message that my order was ready at 7:10pm. Would prefer if it was ready closer to scheduled pick up time. Definitely great value. Got the 60 piece platter for $45. It's 10% off if you pay cash. read more

Hug Sushi is the spot. Look no further people of yelp - Hug Sushi is the best for its buck and its quality. It is my families go-to spot for their sushi platters. You name it, birthdays, anniversaries, get togethers and all. Amazing quality of sashimi, great service and it doesn't burn a hole into your wallet I live in downtown Toronto and when I crave sushi, I wait till I can drive up here to feed my sushi cravings. Personally, I feel there's a lot of trust that goes into trying a new sushi place as handling is very important with all the raw products being served. Does anyone feel the same? With that being said, I recently gave Hug Sushi a try for the first time after seeing all the positive reviews on Instagram and was quite happy. As you can see, presentation looked pretty good. Overall, the contents tasted fresh, portions were fair, and variety was satisfying as well for the 40 pcs ($28.50, with the current 10% off). The ratio of fish-to-rice was also pretty good. One of my favorite things was the spicy-ness of their spicy mayo! My favorite roll is spicy salmon so this is crucial for me personally. Delicious. Improvements? Would have liked the maki to be more tightly rolled and since they don't use tempura bits for the crunchy topping, instead they use crunch "puffs", they got soggy and lost their texture. Still doesn't beat my favorite sushi takeout spot (Ai Sushi) when factoring all of the quality, freshness, and price... But it's comparable and I'd visit again due to its relative closeness to my house, whereas Ai Sushi is quite the drive. read more
