This hidden gem was recommended by one of my foodie friends. We decided to try their upgraded omakase for 2 and manage to snag a reservation on a weeknight. From the seafood soup to yakitori to nigiris and special hirame (courtesy of the chef), pairing all this with a cold sake. Don't forget the desserts if you have space left! It's the perfect way to end the night with. I still can't believe how affordable all of this are.

truly a scarborough japanese staple that has been here in this very spot for the past 25+ years. Chef is a traditional Japanese style master that focuses on quality and freshness, with no frills. I highly recommend their sashimi, nigiri, and grilled fish here as the freshness is on par with some of the best in toronto! It is a very small restaurant so it can get pretty busy on the weekend and service can get slow. One of the downsides of the omakase here is that it isn't served by individual piece, but that's fine with me since their quality is always consistently amazing. I would also recommend the omakase for 2 over the Aoyama tasting menu as it has more fish and I prefer the monkfish liver and skewer over the salad, sashimi, and dessert

Hidden gem in Scarborough area. Usually it's pretty hard to find decent sushi in Scarborough, however this place definitely is an exception. It is Japanese owned with Japanese sushi chef prepares the food for customers. Their omakase is around 100 per person which very good for the price quality wise. Try their winter menu, it includes aaa wagyu beef !!!

Food: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Preface: I have lived in Japan for an extended period of time and so my rating at Japanese restaurants are personally stricter than usual. I went to Aoyama Sushi with my partner and a couple of friends. We were led outside to a second part of the restaurant after walking into the main entrance. It was the same restaurant with another place in the middle of it. I have no idea why that is but it could just be that the middle place didn't want to give up their space when Aoyama wanted to expand. The atmosphere was quite nice. Although small, it didn't feel cramped inside. (The main part of the restaurant might have felt that way but since I only walked into the entrance and never sat down at a table, I can't really give a fair comment). The decoration was simple but nice. The service of the food came quite slow, slower than I expected. However the waitress herself was very nice and hospitable. I think if the food came a little faster or if it was paced well, my rating would have been a 5. The food itself was okay. I don't eat raw food so I can't comment on the sashimi but according to the others it was nice. I loved the vegetable tempura and the rolls. Be prepared though that the rolls are quite sizeable so you'll be stuffed if you're not careful. Those two dishes were the highlight of my meal. I think the congee wasn't bad, packed with good crab flavour. Overall, I had a good experience here. I'll recommend this place for a date night or an elevated night out with friends (strictly from a price point of view)

We went here for date night and it did not disappoint. It's a while since our visit so remember to make an appointment if it's a weekend as they rarely have room for walk ins. They have two locations in the same plaza but r both small so it's little tables great service but a little on the slow side. The quality is great, super tasty and price is very reasonable. I especially enjoyed the fatty tuna. Would recommend for sure.

We came to aoyama for a special occasion as a party of 4. Decided to go all out - got 3 different omakases. There's ample parking at the restaurant. The restaurant is actually split into 2 areas. There's a separate store/space that is a VIP dining area that's larger vs a smaller storefront with only 4 tables/booths by the sushi master. Service: For us we had 1 waiter looking after 4 tables. Very friendly and cheery gentleman bouncing between the 4 tables while also doing takeout orders. The sushi chef/owner was making sushi throughout which you could see. They can get busy to the point where takeout orders may get limited such that they have to turn down specific orders because the kitchen has too many on their list so best to call ahead if you want takeout. Definitely make a reservation if you plan to eat in. Food: Simply put, very high quality fish and ingredients used to product amazing food. The salad is plated in a cocktail cup with purple and green seaweed, some crunchy root veges, and crab. We had a fish carpaccio in yuzu and soy sauce that was seasoned perfectly against the fresh fish. Appetizers of steamed egg, monkfish liver, edamame, and a fish and ginger soup were all varied in texture and flavor. Egg is so smooth. Monkfish liver also super smooth with that fish flavor. The fish and ginger soup is a bit ginger forward but acts as a great palate cleaner between different dishes and in between different sushi. The sushi platter was so fresh, certain fish flown in from Japan or other countries. Of note, the toro belly was amazingly melt-in-your-mouth good. Shrimp was also fresh and sweet. Egg is homemade. Japanese uni was also so fresh and flavorful. Of course, the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and most importantly formed to be solid yet light, stays together but doesn't feel like eating a dense amount of rice. The sushi to rice ratio is perfect. Lobster was fried perfectly with great flavor though I sometimes wish they didn't chop it up that small but I guess it was good to share. The tempura shrimp was lightly battered and not overly greasy. I will say the tempura, while still being good, is easily overshadowed by just how amazing everything else is. Yuzu cheesecake was so good. The creaminess and tart I was were well balanced. Flavor was on point. The staff were so kind that when they found out the occasion, they set us up with a nice surprise. Price: This place is gonna hit your wallet hard! Definitely not an everyday kind of place but certainly a special occasions restaurant.

I'm not sure how I have not reviewed Aoyama! I discovered this place while working in the East End. From the outside, this restaurant is very unassuming. However, it is definitely a hidden gem. The food is authentic and quite good. The portions and price point are reasonable. They recently started a Take Out Menu due to COVID so we decided to order a few things for dinner. The only downside is that they don't deliver, but the traffic was fortunately not too busy. Worth having is the sushi. The sushi chef/owner used to work at Sushi Bar at the Prince Hotel. They make both Japanese and North American favourites. Their Wafu Steak is pretty good as well! I like the marinade. I can't wait to return once dine in is available. For now, I'll continue to take out from Aoyama. Good for: Japanese food, sushi, dinner, take out

I've tried their both omakase menu, Akasaka course and Aoyama course. (Difference is the sashimi plate being included or not and I think it is 100%worth it to pick Aoyama course for it!)They also serve thinly sliced hirami, butter lobster dish, tempura, soup and sushi as well as. Just a right amount for a person in my opinion. Make sure to visit their instagram account as it is so much fun and make sure to try this place, it may not be the fancyiest place but the quality of the food with its price is unbeatable! Service is amazing and such a kitchy and comfortable every time I visit.

TLDR: you have to reserve they don't take walk ins, you call before picking up, long wait but worth it, 2thumbs up on Takoyaki; This is quite a drive from where I live but I think it's worth the drive and the wait. I slipped my mind to check whether or not they need reservations. So, when we arrived the restaurant the lady told me they are currently booked. I ordered Takoyaki, spicy tuna, and spicy salmon tempura. Takoyaki - i like the texture and the crunch of the octopus. I'm familiar with otafuku sauce but i think this one is different. I didn't finish everything and kept it in the fridge. I ate it the next day and VIOLA! It's still good! Spicy salmon tempura and spicy tuna - you know it's fresh and good when you don't need to use wasabi or soy sauce to taste

This was our go-to take-out restaurant for authentic Japanese food and sushi throughout the pandemic. However, we finally got a chance to dine-in there as a family last week and had an amazing experience! PROS - High quality food and fresh sushi/sashimi some of which is flown in from Japan - Affordable - For example, they have 2 dine-in omakase courses for you to choose from: $65 and $83 per person - Comfortable - When I first walked into the restaurant, I thought it was really small but turns out, then have more seating and a bar a few stores down. We ended up getting a booth, which was comfortable and spacious for the 3 of us - Nice and friendly staff - Our server Mari also has a good memory. Whenever we got take-out, we would request low mercury fish to replace tuna. When we dined-in the first time last week, she actually remembered and asked us about it. We ended up eating the tuna this time around as a treat! - Their Instagram is fun and engaging! CONS - They get very busy especially weekends so if you want take-out, call ahead of time and if you want to dine-in, call at least a few days before VERDICT - Great service and delicious food! One day, we'd like to bring our friends with us too!

Old school truly authentic Japanese restaurant in Scarborough. Small restaurant interior space but there is apparently another seating space next door that we didn't see. Call ahead for reservations to avoid waiting. Menu has all the traditional omakase sashimi and nigiri, rolls, appetizers, udon and ramen. Love the full menu options. This is family run. Service is excellent but it does slow down as there is only one person handling service etc. We tried the omakase sushi for two upgraded, salmon teriyaki, udon. The omakase set comes with some cooked appetizers and they were amazing, monkfish liver pate, seafood soup, lobster tempura. The fish quality here is amazing. They use only high grade fish from Japan and it shows. I had Japanese Uni and toro was so fresh. I'm interested to try their other menu selections. Didn't stay for dessert this time as it got overly busy. Pricing quite reasonable considering quality of food. Overall a fantastic authentic Japanese restaurant in Toronto.

Sushi Omakse

Aoyoma is definitely the absolute best sushi place in Scarborough. This is the place for great food, not so much ambience. It's kind of older and I would say border line, falling apart. Still, the best sushi and service in Scarborough, we don't come here for the atmosphere! We have been here many times and would definitely recommend it. This time, we tried their omakse, lots of value there! We normally get their sashimi boat and order rolls on the side. The Omakse was refreshing and mouth watering, the rock lobster add on was just as great and nothing short of perfect. Nothing short of 5 stars as always, thanks for the amazing dinner

Craving sushi but can't eat all so decided to give Aoyama a try. Came here on a Friday night and we were the only one so we got seated right away. One thing I noticed straight away is that the place is very compact and only had four tables. I do know they have a VIP space with more room, but need to make a reservation for that. Next is the food. The sashimi plate was great. I enjoyed the assortment of fish we got. The two sushi rolls was bigger than I expected. All of the rolls comes in 10 pieces per order. Finally, the staff is fantastic. Very courteous and polite. He answered my question regarding the sashimi platter. Overall, I enjoyed my time here and will book a reso for next time!

There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent.
