I came here for lunch with my coworkers and we shared a tasting box plus a few rolls on the side. I don't eat cucumber, so I specifically asked for no cucumber in our order and was told it could be swapped with avocado, which I really appreciated. We were also informed it would take about 20 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 40-45 minutes due to the lunchtime rush. Totally understandable though, and the manager was very apologetic and even gave us a $5 coupon for our next visit along with our box. When the food arrived, the presentation of the tasting box was absolutely WOW.. it was so beautifully done. We were honestly just too hungry at that point to admire it for long. Unfortunately, I noticed the first roll I picked still had cucumber in it, and when we flagged it, the staff immediately looked into it. It turned out there was a miscommunication about the substitution, and most of the rolls in the box had cucumber. The manager personally came over, apologized, explained everything, and immediately took care of it by offering to remake the box without cucumber and providing a full refund, which really went above and beyond. Despite the hiccup, the service and care from the team really stood out. Mistakes happen, especially during busy lunch hours, but the way the team responded made a big difference. They were super busy so they took a bit long with our order. It usually means that they're popular though... which then also means we know the food is gonna be good. I ordered the dream platter and aburi Syaki oshi. I wasn't expecting it to be nicely packaged and it was a damn shame we threw them out but I almost felt like I paid for the extra nice packaging only to have it be tossed... but it does make an excellent gift for someone who really loves sushi! I wasn't expecting the gold leaf OR edible flower garnish at all. It was a very cute touch on this very snowy day. I always appreciate thoughtful packaging and solid execution, and this spot nails both. The sushi is consistently fresh and flavorful, with every roll hitting that sweet spot of texture, fish quality, and balanced seasoning. Stopped by for lunch on a Tuesday and found the place moderately busy, with plenty of seating available and no line to order--always a good sign! I'm visiting from California and was being shown around Toronto and the surrounding areas, so I didn't quite know what to expect. The restaurant has more of a takeout vibe--you order at the counter, and your food comes in a to-go box whether you're dining in or taking it to go. We ordered three rolls: the Tataki Maki, the Paradise, and the Crouching Tiger. Prices were around $8-$9 USD per roll, which honestly felt like a steal. Sushi prices in California just keep climbing, so it was a treat to enjoy great quality at such a reasonable cost. As for the food--it was excellent! The sushi tasted fresh, well-balanced, and not overly sauced (which I appreciated). All three rolls were great, but the Tataki Maki was definitely my favorite--I'm a huge fan of yellowtail tuna, and this roll hit the spot. I really wish we had something like this back in my city. I'm sure there are similar spots in the Bay Area, LA, or San Diego, but not so much in inland California. And certainly not at these prices! Specialty rolls really are nothing like you've seen before (probably)! I consider toro toro a bit of a fancy splurge to treat yourself, and even then, the value seems to have decreased in recent times. This used to be our go to for sushi in the GTA but the quality of the Tasting Box for Two (40 pieces for $80) has diminished over the years which is very disappointing. If I go back, which won't be for a while, I'd stick with their poke bowls or wraps instead of the large platters. read more

Amazing staff and accommodation was easy for our Gluten and shellfish allergy requirements - the sushi was amongst the best I have eaten in quite a while and my family has a celiac and they were great - I'd rank the sushi tuna and salmon very highly and the Bluefin is a thing of beauty. The store is quite small, only about 10 tables for 2 people setting, very crowded especially when half of the store with people standing and waiting to take out. Not a great place to dine in. I ordered the Tasting Box for Two for my boyfriend and me to celebrate our anniversary, and we absolutely loved it! To our surprise, we couldn't finish the whole box because there was so much food, and the variety was incredible. We all came here for dinner on our first night in Canada. We were trying to decide whether to come here or Ikon Sushi, but we chose this place because they have seating. We didn't feel like getting takeout and wanted to sit and eat in. The restaurant is medium in size, with a corner booth and two accompanying tables in the front corner and 2-seater tables lined up next to them. There is also a white counter with additional seating as well. The menu is mounted on the wall in the form of multiple black screens and black sconces and gold ceiling lights dimly illuminate the restaurant. We ordered the following: 46 piece classic box- OMG. Daughter loved the presentation of the box and said that considering everything was in takeout boxes, everything looked fancy and beautiful. We loved the sashimi roses. Hubs was stunned and impressed with the takeout sushi. He said the value was incredible and it was fresh. Spider futomaki- Hubs said that the spider roll came out nice and crunchy. He said that this was better than 3/4 of the sushi places that he's been to in the past. We all loved everything about this place and glad we came here. Service was friendly and quick. My friend took me to this restaurant on a Friday, as she had great experience here. We arrived just after 7p.m., so the place was quite busy. It was small yet had sufficient seating. The decor was simple and clean- the mix of light brown, white and black in various shapes added interest without being overwhelming. Unlike a traditional restaurant, you would go and place your order at the counter. Then when your order was ready, the staff would call your number (on the receipt) and you pick it up. The menu was available on the wall, as well as by the counter. There were so many mouthwatering items, so I had a difficult time picking! Finally, I chose Lobster and Shrimp Poke Bowl and The Empress roll. My friend picked Classic Poke. When our order was ready, we were ready to eat! My poke bowl was delicious- there was good amount of lobster and shrimp, along with the veggies, so I was very happy. This place is similar to Sushi Shop but with fewer varieties. I was quite annoyed by the box packaging; the aburi sushi pieces couldn't hold themselves together and fell apart easily when I tried to pick them up with chopsticks. I don't understand why they use paper boxes even for dine-in--it's not environmentally friendly. The sushi was okay, but not impressive. We tried the Forbidden Roll, Aburi Maguro Oshi, and Classic Poke Bowl. The seaweed was rubbery, and the rice seemed like regular rice with a touch of rice vinegar. The poke bowl was overwhelmed by sauce; it felt like we were eating a bowl of sauce rather than ingredients. The booth was pretty dirty with unclean tables and grease on the seats, but they provided Lysol so we used it to clean our seating area. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it. The box experience itself was a negative dining experience--imagine the frustration of trying to pick up a piece of sushi and having it fall apart. I still prefer Sushi Shop. So good!! As per usual lol. We ordered a takeout box that was packaged amazingly. It was very well thought and you could tell time was taken for presentation. And they did not stop there, the food tasted just as good. Every bite was a decadent surprise and was worth every dollar. We ended up eating inside but I will say the seating is a bit limited inside. Woohoo! Big congrats to Toro Toro for snagging a spot in Yelp GTA's top 25 places to eat in 2023. While I was at Vaughan Mills doing some shopping, I suddenly got a craving for sushi, even though I just returned from Japan. Despite not being the classic Japanese style, I'm a huge fan of their innovative rolls. If you're uncertain about what to order, I highly recommend going for their tasting box for 2 priced at $78. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. It's packed with a variety of saucy rolls and torched sushi that'll make your taste buds dance. Just thinking about it is making me hungry! The only downside is that their washroom was locked and one of us was waiting for a long time to wash our hands thinking someone was still using it. I've seen this place on social media many times and always thought it was a high end restaurant and was pleasantly surprised it was a takeout style place! I had the chance to try Tasting Box for Two which is the perfect size for two people and with a great selection so you can try almost everything on the menu. There are so many sushi places, the quality is the same, and they're all priced pretty much the same. When I was in Japan, they have several levels to the quality of the fish. There were premium types of fish as well as premium cuts of fish. And it matters. In North America, I feel that the shops don't discern the difference, so the businesses don't either. What ends up happening is that we all get the same lowest grade, and depending on the place, the price varies. Toro Toro is on the high end of that list as far as prices are concerned. Amd for the inflated prices, what you get is picture quality food. From the packaging to the placement, you order will look nice guaranteed. From a quality perspective, it's no different from any other place in my opinion. From a taste perspective, they are creative enough to make some nice flavorful and textural dishes, but nothing that really stands out. The MO of the place is a QR code menu. Place your order or call in early. Then you wait for your food. They'll call out your order number when it's ready, and you have to go up to get it. You're guaranteed to wait, but the bright side to that is you know everything is made fresh. Everything is in take out containers, but they do have tables for you to eat at once you pick up your order if you want. They will clean the tables after you, so if you do eat in, don't forget to leave them a modest tip for picking up after you. I know this because I saw a spray bottle and some paper towels, and when I went to get them to clean up a table where someone just left, one of the cashiers quickly came out and told me they would take care of it. If you do dine in, they will provide you with small plates instead of a bag and they'll place your order on a tray. Overall, Toro Toro is very expensive, but beautiful Japanese sushi, sashimi, rolls, and oshi. Their bowls (Poke and Chirashi) are not nearly as pretty, and it's probably because the bowls are paper and very prominent with the dish as a whole (they just stand out, which makes the pictures look way less pretty.) Other than presentation, there really isn't anything about the food that makes this place stand out; and presentation doesn't make the food taste any better. I'm not sure if it was just the day I visited, but the ginger was sub-par. It was more shredded than sliced; it was dry; and it was mature (giving it a very strong ginger flavor), nothing what it should be. Is the presentation worth the price? Not to me... I finally tried Toro Toro and was so excited to try it. On Instagram their platters look super fancy and intricate. I ordered my meal via Uber eats and had it delivered. THE FOOD: I ordered the following items gluten and dairy free. On all my rolls, I had them remove the following ingredients if they were supposed to be on the roll: tempura bits, wontons and cucumber due to allergies. I was very excited to learn this restaurant has gluten free soya sauce and they sent this to me with my order. - The Empress: The empress roll was served with cooked lobster, shrimp, avocado, pineapple, mango, sesame seeds, lemon garlic aioli, Japanese mayo and hot sauce. It typically also has tempura bits and wontons but I didn't include those in this dish. This was actually the most underwhelming roll that I ordered. This was also the most expensive roll that I ordered at $15.50. I could barely taste the lobster and shrimp and the flavour pallet did not do much for me. It tasted weird and almost upset my stomach a little bit. Perhaps it was too citrus. With than being said, I do enjoy mango avocado rolls and salmon mango avocado rolls at other restaurants so I'm not sure why this roll didn't live up to my expectations. - Spicy Tuna Maki: The spicy tuna roll came with tuna, avocado, green onion, sesame seeds and hot sauce. I really liked this roll and would order it again. My order didn't come with the tempura bits and I was fully satisfied with it. - Rainbow Maki: The rainbow maki roll was really good. My roll came with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, green onion and sesame seeds. It was very fresh, had a lot of flavour and was better than the tradition salmon avocado I usually have to get at other restaurants due to my allergies. - Torched Butterfish: The torched butterfish was nigiri with butterfish over a rectangular piece of rice. It was fresh but nothing special that blew me away. Would I return? I would go back for the rainbow maki, spicy tuna maki and maybe I will try some other rolls. I would not order the empress again but I would probably just order takeout if I need an easy lunch while at work. This place was recommended by a friend, was headed to Vaughn Mills and decided to have lunch here. How can you say no to fusion sushi. Small place, limited seating, appears to do alot of takeout orders, sushi at home, how decadent. Ordered the crispy futomaki (sushi containing shrimp tempura, cucumbers & avocado) and Tataki Maki (seared tuna. & yellowtail). They had at least 7 staff at the sushi preparation counter, took approximately 10mins to prepare our order. Both ordered came packed in a nice black cardboard box which also included a small portion of ginger and soy sauce) wasabi. Sushi was impeccably crafted with the right ratio of seaweed, rice and fillings. The Tataki Maki was seared nicely which was reflected in the flavor/after taste. Firm texture without falling apart when handled with chopsticks. The combination burst with flavors with each bite. Was it outstanding, maybe, but then, there's only so much you can do with sushi to make it stand out from other sushi places. I haven't heard that song since elementary school when the senior recorder class was playing it and I figured it out on my own. I was too young to be in this class. I got to the plaza where Toro Toro is. It's by Vaughan Mills, so you can shop till you drop and get a bite afterwards, or vice-versa. I had no problem finding a parking spot even with all the mounds of snow around. I had an efficient, helpful woman greet me. She fetched my takeout order (order or phone number helps) and put in my forbidden roll order. She let me know that it would take five minutes to make. There must have been at least six staff members putting orders together. Watching them torch sushi and fold boxes quickly was impressive. Sure enough, my forbidden roll was ready, placed in a huge white paper bag, next to my other huge white bag. I thanked the nice woman and left. The forbidden roll looks small, but a lot of flavours are packed into it. It has seared salmon, mango, avocado, crabstick, tempura, lemon zest, tobiko, hot sauce, sesame vinaigrette, teriyaki sauce, and sesame seeds on top. It is quite the explosion of flavours when you take a bite. Each piece was fresh and bright, especially with the lemon zest. There's a slight spicy kick and some crunch. This roll is highly enjoyable to eat. If you are hungry, have an above-average appetite, and are looking for a meal, I'd recommend getting another roll or menu item in addition to the forbidden roll, at least. I had a rather large breakfast, so this roll was perfect. If I didn't eat such a huge breakfast, I'd get another roll or appetizer. The roll and packaging are pleasing to look at. I Iove the boxed packaging. It's black, classy, and doesn't leave a huge carbon footprint. You can get merchandise, such as sweatshirts and t-shirts, at the store. I was admiring the sugar-free bottled tea varieties. So good! I had my lobster and shrimp poke bowl when I got home. The base is rice. I normally get greens as my base. However, the sushi rice was done so perfectly that I devoured it. Like the forbidden roll, there were so many flavours and textures happening in each bite. This poke bowl had a ton of ingredients: lobster, shrimp, kanikama, mango, avocado, edamame, cucumber, oshinko, green onion, coriander, furikake, togarachi, wonton strings, lemon garlic aioli, ponzu, hot sauce, Japanese mayo, teriyaki sauce, tobiko, and sesame seeds. I need to take a breather. That ingredients list is insane! This poke bowl is fabulous. You get fresh ingredients, with spicy, sweet, tangy, and savoury flavours thrown at your tastebuds. Mine were woken up and have been so happy ever since. It's filling. I'd order it again in a heartbeat. This poke bowl does run on the more expensive side compared to other bowls on the menu. This one was $19.50 before my $2 discount. it's worth it to indulge in yumminess. I have had Toro Toro flagged for a while to visit and I got my chance to stop by today. I look forward to returning. I almost forgot to write this. We went to the restaurant late that weekend, but still have a few customers and staff were still working hard at that time. A nice girl helped us to place the order, and we took some pictures around. My friend would like to order some other things from next store. The girl told us another 5 mins would be done. That's really fast. We drove home for the late night meal. This forbidden rolls were so great to finish up our day. We marked Toro Toro as our must go sushi restaurant. read more

LOVE THIS SUSHI!!! Toro Toro is absolutely amazing. Tried the forbidden rolls, tuna ngiri, and salmon aburi. My friend ordered the yellow tail aburi so I tried that too and honestly that was my favourite. Everything here was amazing. The fish quality is so fresh and tasty. Portion sizes are large as well and the pricing is spot on. Conveniently located near Vaughan Mills. I would recommend calling ahead to order or placing an order online as they get busy! read more

TLDR: Really Nice ambiance and the food packaging is superb. I dont have much say on the service because it operates like it's a "fast food" joint instead of a restaurant. The sushi is decent and the flavours are okay. Freshness of fish I just arrive from my 4month trip to Asia and I was spoiled with really fresh catch fish. I think that made my palette taste different. For a promise of "fresh" I couldn't agree much but I'm one off. It might be "fresher" from what most sushi joint offers around GTA. For the packaging, that's Toro toro put a lot of thought on this superb packaging.
