You get a large variety of rolls on the tray so it catered to everyone's liking. Most of the rolls were really well made. The yam one was also really good. Definitely a different change of pace. My only complaint was the spicy toppings and the spicy tuna/salmon. I think the spicy toppings to fish ratio was quite poor as I hardly tasted the fish. Other than that, a small blemish on what was a really good sushi spot.

We were also informed it would take about 20 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 40-45 minutes due to the lunchtime rush. Totally understandable though, and the manager was very apologetic and even gave us a $5 coupon for our next visit along with our box. When the food arrived, the presentation of the tasting box was absolutely WOW.. it was so beautifully done. We were honestly just too hungry at that point to admire it for long. Unfortunately, I noticed the first roll I picked still had cucumber in it, and when we flagged it, the staff immediately looked into it. It turned out there was a miscommunication about the substitution, and most of the rolls in the box had cucumber. The manager personally came over, apologized, explained everything, and immediately took care of it by offering to remake the box without cucumber and providing a full refund, which really went above and beyond. Despite the hiccup, the service and care from the team really stood out. Mistakes happen, especially during busy lunch hours, but the way the team responded made a big difference. I'd definitely come back again.

I ordered the dream platter and aburi Syaki oshi. I wasn't expecting it to be nicely packaged and it was a damn shame we threw them out but I almost felt like I paid for the extra nice packaging only to have it be tossed... but it does make an excellent gift for someone who really loves sushi! I wasn't expecting the gold leaf OR edible flower garnish at all. It was a very cute touch on this very snowy day. The oshi sort of fell apart everytime I picked it up which was a shame because it was nicely charred and sweet from the mango. Bit of a personal peeve but I don't think sushi should fall apart when you pick it up with a chopstick. I think it should stay in tact. Next time I'm gonna order takeout and have it delivered so I can feel like I had a nice package of sushi delivered

This didn't sit well with us, so we had looked to Yelp to find another venue and Nichiban Sushi 4 U popped up. I never heard of Nichiban before, but I instantly recognized the location as another favourite food joint is located adjacent to them (Fat Ninja). We decided to give them a try. I can't say we weren't a bit hesitant when we arrived as they are located at the back of the plaza, away from the limited street frontage the plaza could afford. However, I can say with confidence that we were very happy we ate at Nichiban! The service was great, the prices were excellent and most importantly, the food was spectacular! The ingredients were very fresh and full of flavour! The bento box I ordered was well prepared and the food was just right. The chicken katsu was extremely tasty and the gravy was delicious! I loved the tempura: just enough batter to be flavourable and not overwhelming. I could actually see the vegetables underneath the batter, unlike other restaurants that simply oversaturate the batter. The sushi plates were also very good; the sashimi was ultra fresh and the presentation was great! Someone ordered the beef teriyaki bento box and everything was just right! Overall, I would highly recommend Nichiban to anyone who adores Japanese cuisine - excellent tasting food and great pricing will make you a believer!

Torched sushi Unagi and hotate - 3 blocks of rice with a bit of unagi and scallop on top. It felt a bit unbalanced and expensive for what it is. Would not recommend.

We came here because of the reviews on Google, and like a lot of people have mentioned, parking is…read morefairly difficult. There are only about 4 to 5 spots in the front, and while there are some smaller plaza parking lots nearby and another parking lot across the street, most of the spots are marked for whatever store they're in front of, so park at your own risk. Upon entering, there aren't that many tables either. There isn't a lot of room for bigger groups but they can merge some of the tables together. The biggest issue for us was definitely how long and uneven the wait for the food was. We ordered at 12:15 PM and got our salads about 10 minutes later, but after that, the food came out pretty sporadically. The first actual dish didn't come until 12:44 PM, which was the tempura from the two-person set. Parts of the other meals and the rest of the two-person set slowly came out between 12:46 and 12:49 PM. The 30-piece sashimi and sushi set didn't arrive until 1:04 PM, almost 50 minutes after we ordered, and the actual salmon teriyaki which was just a small salad, salmon teriyaki and steamed rice from the bento was the last thing to come out at 1:09 PM, about 54 minutes after ordering. By that point, we had already finished the entire two-person set and another person had finished their udon and sushi combo. It's just not ideal when you're eating with a group and some people haven't even gotten the main part of their meal while everyone else is already finished. It also didn't seem like it was only our table. The table in front of us had a pasta order that seemed to have been missed. We heard the server say it was about to be ready, and then heard someone from the kitchen respond with something along the lines of, "There's another order for it?" So I do think the timing and communication between the kitchen and servers is something they need to improve on. We were served our salads first, but didn't get our miso soups until we asked for them. They were planning to serve them with the meals, but since we had already been waiting so long, we ended up just asking if we could have them first. For food, I got the two-person lunch set for $52, which came with a large veggie udon, 9 pieces of sashimi, 6 pieces of sushi, an additional 6 pieces of a classic roll, and tempura. We chose the spicy scallop maki for our roll. The sushi and sashimi were good, and the tempura was good as well. The veggie udon was a little disappointing though. It had one bok choy, a few pieces of mushroom, and then was mostly just strands of onion. The spicy scallop maki was also just okay since I couldn't really taste much scallop. Price-wise, I do think it's a little on the higher side for what you get. The quality was good overall, but for the price I would've liked a little more, especially considering the wait. Between how difficult parking is and how long and unevenly the food came out, I'm not really in any hurry to return. I think the wait bothered me more because we were eating as a group, and by the time two people finally got their food, the rest of us were completely finished. If they can improve the timing of getting everyone's meals out somewhat together, it would make the experience a lot better. 5% off with cash.

APPS: Options were mini taco samplers (veggie + spicy salmon), uni mini cones, and chawanmushi (steamed egg with seafood). Favourite here is chawanmushi, tho the others were good too. Uni cones would have been better if it was actual pieces of uni rather than an uni cream. MAINS: Options were tomato salmon tsuyu soba (the viral one), salmon steak teishoku, special sushi set. Favourite here is definitely the salmon soba. Very unique and refreshing, though taste isn't something out of this world. It's what you would think it tastes like - long strings of salmon! DESSERT: Options were matcha strawberry tiramisu, house made sorbet (got the yuzu mojito one), and cheesecake. Surprisingly the sorbet was amazing. The flavour was so good, we thought about getting another on the side. SERVICE: 3/5 tbh. They weren't very welcoming and didn't ask if we wanted anything else (so we weren't able to order another dessert). At the end, just asked if we were ready for the bill. It was just the bare minimum. TIPS: There's Green P Street parking (paid) right outside and along Yonge St. There's also a couple of paid parking garages nearby. Come early if you want a convenient spot next to the restaurant, though even if you park a little further, the walk is short and you can always go shopping nearby! Strongly recommend making a reservation. They tend to get really busy around the 1pm mark.
