I was really disappointed with the service here. I lost my glasses and urgently needed a few contact lenses to get through the next few days. They had samples available, but told me I could only get them if I placed an order. The staff was difficult to work with, and I had to repeat my question multiple times just to get a straight answer. It felt like they did not want to help at all. I ended up getting help from another optical store that provided sample lenses matching my prescription for free. Shout out to Dr. Kaneta She performed my eye exam for both glasses and contacts. Very thorough, competent, experienced, and knowledgeable! Credible credentials to back it up too. Berkeley Optometry Clinic is clean, organized, and uses the latest lab equipment. Great bedside manners! Dr. Kaneta answered my questions with ease and clarity. Definitely didn't feel rushed at all. Dr Kaneda is great - she's very kind, pleasant personality and knowledgeable. She takes great care in her work. I don't care for the main optician in the retail area tho. She's pushy and rude. It seems she is really pushing for that sale and doesn't seem genuine in her care for you as a person. I've avoided working with her with the last few times I've visited the office. If you're not talking about spending money, she pretty much shoots you a dismissive look and doesn't want to be bothered. I called today and asked about my insurance coverage - I could tell by her rude demeanor and her interrupting me constantly to get me off the phone that it was her. I went to Target optical to get new glasses. I worked with Jonah who was wonderful. When I first got there he asked if I needed help. I said no I was just browsing, he said to let him know if I needed help. I liked that he didn't hover. When I was ready he was very helpful. He had great knowledge about the products and great advice. I wasn't prepared with my insurance information, and he was incredibly patient as I texted my husband for information about our insurance plan. I've been to over 5 optometrist and can confidently say that this was by far the best I've been to. Before coming to Target Optical, I called over 10 places from Pinole all the way to Walnut Creek to find an affordable and overall quality place to get a contacts prescription. Most places I called quoted me anywhere from $179 to $300 for a simple contacts prescription without an astigmatism (and without vision insurance.) So, let me just save you the time and tell you that you are getting the best price and service here (Costco was also the same price as Target Optical, but Costco did not have as much availability.) Additionally, the optometrist that helped me, Dr. Kaneta, was so knowledgeable and careful about my prescription. I really appreciate the time she took to explain why a certain prescription would be best for my eyes. Also, Dr. Kaneta gave me a free pair of the new prescription contacts to sample and test to ensure that I feel comfortable with the new degree. Overall, I had a really great experience here! I am just really surprised that there aren't more 5 start reviews making this place pop off - but I think its probably because everyone's trying to keep this gem to themselves ;) Anyways, thank you to Dr. Kaneta and her team! As a first time eyewear user, my first experience with Target Optical was pleasant and efficient. Their professionalism and expertise is top shelf and quite impressive when it comes to understanding how eyewear works. I felt very understood and cared for as a first time customer even though I walked in blindly. I felt empowered when they answered all my questions clearly and even showed me different options on how to save money. From a retail point of view they excelled in all areas. Cathy, the Optical Manager, had me feeling like I was VIP from beginning to end. I felt like she really cared about me and my needs. Once I was finished seeing the optometrist I spent about 30 minutes picking out my eyewear. Each step of the way she would explain the "why" behind everything as well as pros and cons. Such level of detail had me at the edge of my seat. For a moment, I was actually envious that someone was so good at their role. I wish my doctor or even my mechanic were as excellent as Cathy. Covid 19 Notes: Like all things operating during this pandemic, they have protocols in place for everyone's safety. Their system and setup had me feeling really safe. They only allow a limited amount of people in the store at a time and they require everyone who enters to be temperature checked and wash their hands. Masks are required as well during the visit (if you're anti-mask and love living with your selfish ideologies, I recommend looking elsewhere). 10/10 would recommend to all my friends and family. I have already made plans to come here for my follow up even if that means driving the extra 20-30 miles. Worth it! read more

We had a terrible experience with Target Optical. It took more than a month to receive my husband's glasses including prescription being off. He had a seizure last month and his lens popped out with the arm of the frame bent. He went back today thinking he had paid for a yearly insurance. They refused to fix his glasses stating he only paid for lens. They have such a small selection of frames that we had to buy a frame from another vendor. He needed specifically small frames due to monthly seizures where he would fall face forward. Never again will we use Target for eye exam or lenses. The repair is minimal so we will fix it at home. Our experience from beginning to end was just terrible. read more

I recently bought a pair of prescription glasses. When i received them i noticed that they were very similar to ones a bought before so i wanted to return them. I reached out a day later via phone and spoke to a lady (did not get her name) she took my details and said she would look into and call back. A few days later no response, so i called back and spoke to female supervisor (did not get her name) and said i need a refund. She then proceeded to say 1) insurance is a pain so maybe i would want to get a discount or swap with another pair - i politely declined as i said that these were not bought via my insurance as it had run out 2) asked me why i wanted to return (which was fine to ask) BUT THEN to my shock of the rudeness 3) asked why i bought the glasses in the first place if i had a similar one. I WAS SHOCKED - she was being very rude and pushy and her tone was above and beyond RUDE. She then said that she would call me back. Next day - no answer AGAIN - so i called and spoke to another male member of staff, he said yes they looked into it but i would have to come in as they had lost my receipt? i stated "don't you have anyway of tracking this? do i have to come in with my receipt? " he said no that was the only way. Then i said "what if i scanned my receipt and then send the glasses back via mail" - and he said no as it would get lost (is insured mail not a thing in the US?!) So i sighed and came all the way in to return (from Vallejo) Target optical website it states "no hassle returns" and "mail in option"??? can't believe that i had to come all the way in due to mishandling of my receipt. I mentioned to the male staff member that i was not happy about this and he said that i previously spoke to his supervisor. In short, this "supervisor" was extremely rude and condescending plus did not even follow up on my calls. I will never come back to this branch - usually i go to Alameda where the staff are AWESOME - i have always had my glasses from this store to add lenses. I really appreciate the fact that Dr. Kaneta carefully evaluated me to give me all the options for correcting vision in my aging eyes, and helped me to understand each option. The fact that she gave me sample contact lenses to actually experience the different options (monovision, distance only, multifocal) was immensely helpful, and allowed me to choose the option that works best for me. We had selected glasses but I didn't realize prescriptions differ between contacts and glasses, so we set up all of my selections and placed the order once I got my prescription. I have never had such an Aha moment in my life as to when I went to Target to get my eyes checked by Dr Kaneta (so sweet and smart). I have been to another eye doctor at the San Miguel offices at least 6 times over the last 8 years and I have never had perfectly clear vision in those 6 years. One trip to Dr. Kaneta and my eye sight is perfect and it feels so amazing. Do not hesitate to go to the Walnut Creek Optical dept. and see her for your next eye exam. I have been wearing glasses for 20 years. I usually get prescription glasses at Costco but their selection of glasses frames is really lacking. I tried Target Optical. I had my exam for glasses done by one of their Optometrists. Ordered over the period of a year three pairs of glasses and spent way over $1,000 on these. I thought it was my imagination that I was not seeing well out of my Target progressive glasses. In fact my vision was better with my old Coscto glasses with an older prescription. With the target glasses I have to tilt my head back to be able to see close up. They are just not right. This was confirmed today when I had my glasses exam by an Optometrist at my Ophthalmologist's office. They told me the reason I could not see well was that the prescription done by Target was not nearly strong enough. I am beyond disappointed as now I have to have all new glasses made. I will no wonder I have been suffering dizziness on stairs and cannot see my computer or read close up without straining. I will say that Target has a much nicer selection of frames than Costco. For that alone I give them kudos. I cannot recommend this service. read more

How convenient that The Spark Optometry is located inside Target Walnut Creek? I scheduled an eye exam during one of my Target run. Dr Yang did my annual eye exam. For the 1st time in 15 yrs of my adulthood with going seeing so many different eye doctors she was the first to potentially help me see more from injured eye. Most doctor just considered as a lazy eye since I've not used it for almost 30 hrs due my accident as a young child. Also, she diagnosed my astigmatism, and gave me the right contacts to wear. Which was amazing because now I see so clearly compared to all these years wearing contacts but still have blurry vision. I was so ecstatic leaving there, and definitely will continue to see her for all of my future eye exam. So THANK YOU Dr. Yang, you're the best!!!! Plus, the store is very nice and clean.
