I love both of the doctors here! They are extremely personable and are open to address any questions I have. Last year, I had a horrible episode of floaters and was ready to go to the ER when I was reminded that my OD could have a look first. It was my good fortune that Dr Doherty was available to see me. He explained in simple terms what was happening and what I could expect. On my annual visit today, he again did a great job explaining what had happened and what may be to come. They were all friendly however the only drawback is that they don't notify you when they have your ordered glasses with them. Also I think thier pricing are somewhat expensive compared to Kaiser which doesn't require for you to be a member as long as you bring your current prescription. read more

I have very rarely ever had such a positive experience at any business in my life (and I'm old lol) I have autoimmune issues and it affects my eyes. I have Kaiser and have been back and forth many times and I mean many, each time paying a copay, being referred to their eye doctors and then getting no relief. I finally decided to go outside of Kaiser and took a chance here, they were close to my house, answered the phone when I called, were super polite and helpful and on top of that, Dr. Doherty went above and beyond to get me the relief that was disappointingly impossible at Kaiser. Not only was Dr. Doherty extremely knowledgeable about my rare case, I felt almost immediately that he WAS going to help me. While Kaiser just threw their hands up each time, Dr. Doherty really understood what was going on and offered a solution and guess what!!! It worked!! For the first time in a long time I felt "normal". While he said my condition could return, he offered future solutions if it did. I bragged high and low about my new eye doctor and office in general. At dinner one night I was telling my sister and she said no....we have the best eye doctor. U said no way he is better than my eye doctor. As I'd turns out both my sister and brother in law see Dr. Doherty as well. So I guess it's a tie lol. My wife and I brought our two sons into Insight Optometry. We were all seen by Dr. Doherty. He was great to work with. He has a great disposition. Throughout the exam he explained the various tests and screenings. Our sons who are 12 and 14yo don't love going to see the doctor enjoy Dr. Doherty. They are awful! I was seen there 3 years ago and I needed ONE PAIR of emergency contacts for a wedding and they refused. They wanted me to get an exam. I'm always hesitant with doctors in general especially eye doctors and dentists because I always feel like they try to find a way to get more money out of you. My wife and I had been coming here for about 3 years, we always had a great experience with Dr. Doherty and the staff at front. However, I believe there has been a recent change in the front staff and the quality of customer service has really taken a dip. During my recent visit I was confused about the type of AR coating so the salesperson suggested that I try the glasses without coating and then if needed return to get the AR coating at the same cost as quoted. But when I returned they wanted to charge me double the quoted cost, I refused to pay the additional amount as I had been misguided by them and they refused to provide me the AR coating on initially quoted price. Frankly I do not have much issue in paying the amount, its just that they never accepted their fault and acted as it was my problem. Once again, we always had great experience with Dr. Doherty and the previous sales staff. 5/5 rating for them. But thanks to the new sales staff, we will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

Don't be fooled by all the positive reviews for this practice, which really should be called Insight Vision We-Don't-Care Optometry. Read the negative reviews. They happen to reflect my personal experience with them. You'd be better served taking your business to a Cosco or Target where they probably have real Opticians unlike the shop girls who handle the eyeglass side of this practice! Insight Vision's Facebook page has a place to write reviews and ask reviewers how they can improve. Here is the review I just posted there: How can you improve? You could start by making sure that the prescription glasses you sell properly fit the customer. Insight sells their prescription glass frames "off the rack" and does not customize them to your face & head. As a result a pair of glasses may feel OK when you pick them up but not so great after wearing them for a short period of time. I had to return a pair I recently purchased because the frame arms were simply too short negating an "adjustment" as a fix. Not once did any of the staff there (including Dr. Doherty!) offer any semblance of an apology for wasting my time as a result of the failure to properly fit the glasses I had purchased. Insight did accept the glasses for refund but the optometrist (Dr. Doherty) stated that I was not welcome there anymore! So screw you Insight Vision Lack-of-Care Optometry. You are far from the only game in town! read more

Really great experience here! The front desk staff was super welcoming. As a new patient, I found the introductory paperwork to be painless and quick. I was seen on-time by Dr. Doherty. He was very nice and thorough in his explanations. He did a full comprehensive exam and let me know what each step was going to accomplish. I had a concern about my vision and I felt like he really understood what I was talking about and made me feel reassured about the situation. I always had the impression that my vision was truly terrible (due to a lack of knowing any better about eye prescriptions) but Dr. Doherty gave me a lot of hope for the present and future of my eyeballs! Haha. For someone who gets anxious about health-related things, Dr. Doherty had all the comforting words I needed to hear. I also brought in my most recent pair of glasses which needed some light repair to the frame as they were inadvertently stepped on at home (note to self - never put your glasses on the floor out of their case next to your bed, even when feeling lazy...ugh). The optician wasn't sure they could be fixed but Dr. Doherty was able to see the problem and manipulate the frame back to the correct position. For free! I also appreciated that he did not try to push me towards buying more expensive contacts to correct my astigmatism. I really felt that he was recommending what I needed and nothing more. Thank you so much, Dr. Doherty and staff! I will certainly be back for all future eye care needs. Quick tip - They do remind you to bring in your glasses and wear your contacts to the appointment. Dr. Chan is excellent. The reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 has to do with the front staff. I was told that my insurance would cover part of the cost for a pair of sunglasses and I was quoted a price. The staff member then encouraged me to wait until my annual appointment to purchase them (so my benefit could be applied). However, when I got done with the appointment one month later and was ready to purchase the glasses, another staff member said I had to pay full price. When I explained this to the staff member who had originally quoted me the price (she had even encouraged me to put the glasses on hold), she said she "did not remember" ever quoting me the discounted price. I should have asked for the quote in writing. I will be doing this from now on and I would definitely advise others to do the same. I would hope that the front staff is more clear in the future. Furthermore, I would hope that they don't "forget" details promised. read more

I used to see Dr. Doherty at his other location, and I'm so happy that I can now see him in Walnut Creek at Insight Vision Care. Dr. Doherty is professional and charming. I feel that I can really trust his diagnosis especially after he told me that I didn't need the glasses that had been erroneously prescribed for me years earlier by a different doctor. I'm at the age (early 40's) when my eyes are beginning to get strained earlier in the day especially if doing a lot of computer work. Dr. Doherty told me that I could get glasses but didn't really need them. Of course I opted to get them - anything for a new accessory - but I was really impressed by his honesty. I love that he didn't push glasses - and a sale - on me unnecessarily. That said, Insight Vision Care has an amazing selection of frames, and I'm really happy with the frames I chose! On another note, my 11 year-old son recently decided that he wanted to have contacts instead of his glasses especially when playing sports. My husband and I were wary; can an 11 year-old boy wear contacts? How will he get them in his eyes? He's really squeamish and a bit of a drama queen. After discussing with Dr. Doherty and Dr. Chan, they assured me that my son could indeed wear contacts. Dr. Doherty then spent quite a bit of time teaching my son how to put in his contacts.
