I've always had great experiences at Looking Glass Optometry. Both Dr. Dong and Dr. Cheng are wonderful doctors, who are patient, thorough, and such experts in their field. Their assistants (also a shout out to Lali!!) are all friendly and knowledgeable. They are always willing and able to help with a smile. Buying glasses and frames here are also a great experience. I've never experienced any sales pressure or upselling. Instead, they always help me find what I need, then explain to me any additional options and what benefits the added features may offer. My husband and I have been seeing Dr Dong for 10+ years and he's the best medical professional I've worked with in any specialization. He's very sweet and kind, thorough, curious, a good listener and he really take his time to hear and address all my concerns. I always feel well cared for. By contrast. I did see Dr. Cheng once when Dr. Dong wasn't available, and I was disappointed. She wasn't as diligent and had very surface/not helpful answers. I came to the Looking Glass after a recommendation from one of my colleagues at work. When I initially called for an appointment the person who answered the phone merely said "can I help you", no hello this is the Looking Glass, nothing like that. I thought that was strange, but chalked it up to some phone issue. I waited over a month for my appointment. When I arrived at the office it was a very nice office with calming staff and a great atmosphere. Unfortunately the intact person which does the preliminary testing is very incompetent. I should've gone with my gut at that point and walked out. I can't see, which is very frustrating, and I can't drive. So now this business is costing me money. Dr Cheng is very nice and knowledgeable, unfortunately she does not really communicate well what the plan is. She also asked me what I wanted to do. I have issues with near and far vision, plus astigmatism and Doctors are very patient and work with me to make sure I know my options and am satisfied with what I select. The doctor was nice so I decided to buy glasses here to support their business. That was a costly mistake on my part. I recommend looking somewhere else to buy glasses. The front desk lady tries to upsell you on add-ons that you don't need for your lenses. Don't accept everything she add-on. You can ask for alternative that are more affordable. She wont let you know unless you ask for alternative options. I learned all of this after i bought my glasses. She also lied about emailing me the receipt. I had to call multiple times before i could get a hold of someone else to email my receipt. They don't respond to emails, and it's difficult to get a hold of them on the phone. The doctor was great, but that was the only part of the experience that shined. Otherwise, the guy doing the prelim tests was rude and sarcastic. The glasses are way too expensive, and then when I got the glasses they weren't quite right and they wouldn't fix them without charging me more money. I had to end up getting glasses at another place. Also, when discussing glasses, I was treated like a street urchin when I didn't want any of their "add-ons" so it felt like I was dealing with a car dealership. My eyes are right on the edge of two different prescriptions and when my original prescription was a little underperforming they immediately redid the lenses for the next size to my prescription and painlessly got my right glasses for me and on my way with the right glasses for me. Dr. Dong is the best. He was very patient and thorough during my eye exams. I have really particular vision issues and Dr. Dong wanted to ensure that I had the most optimized pair of contacts. He ordered multiple trial lenses, prior to settling on the one that I preferred. The staff is very friendly as well. I always feel welcomed. At times I did mix up my appointments, but the staff members were really accommodating. I worked extensively in healthcare, so I know how important it is to be prompt for my appointments. With my recent pregnancy brain, I mixed up the times and dates of my appointments, but I was never scolded by anyone in the office. Dr. Dong was particularly sweet, when I apologized profusely about being late. I am really glad I found Dr. Dong, since I am very new to the area. So glad they are a VSP provider! read more

I have also had gas permeable contacts that were not correct . My copay for the incorrect glasses and contacts was ridiculous. Five years later I found Looking Glass Optometry'. I was looking for a new optometrist and found Looking Glass on YELP. Dr Cheng is very thorough with the eye exam and listened to my concerns. Even took the time to read through my ophthalmologist' report and to discuss it with me. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Four stars because even with my vision insurance, my copay for the glasses (lenses) was very high! I had never paid that much for a pair of glasses. It also took two whole weeks for the glasses to be ready for pickup. And I had to call to get a status update. Other high quality glasses retailers in the area can do it in half the time at half the price, even with the Thanksgiving holiday. When I started my last job and was told they offered vision, I immediately jumped on the chance to get new glasses and a new contact prescription. The last time I got a new glasses prescription, I was in high school or college. I did a Google search for an optometrist near me, and Looking Glass came up. I called them to set up an appointment, and they were super considerate and kind. They had me fill out the new patient forms in-house, and it didn't take too long. Between the two times I came here, I think I met with Drs. Dong and Cheng once each. Regardless, they were both really nice and made everything so easy. Dr. Cheng dilated my eyes since I was a new patient and made sure my eyes weren't showing signs of any eye disease or injury. I didn't have my contact prescription on me, but I had the idea to bring my contact lens boxes, so they could have an idea. They ran a test on my old glasses to determine its power and how much my eyes and vision had changed in the years since my last vision test. I can't recommend this place enough. After my exam was over, I took a look at their glasses frames to see which would look best on me. After a while, they had me on my way with new glasses and a contact prescription. After my second visit, it was cheaper to have them order and mail my contacts to me instead of taking the prescription to Costco and having them do my contacts. This is an awesome practice, and they will absolutely take care of you. read more

Friendly doctor and staff that seemed to care. Unfortunately, I changed my opinion on that and ended up feeling cheated. When you try to take the right approach with professionals, you have expectations that your site will be okay. After spending thousands of dollars with Looking Glass my wife's new glasses still didn't work. She went back and was told that her problem was that she had cataracts. They were "So sorry" about the wasted cost of the new glasses but Dr. Dong could treat the problem (he missed the first time) for another $2,500. I might have done it if they had agreed to reimburse for the new but worthless glasses. Apparently nothing is guaranteed. I also got glasses but mine were okay. Regardless, we will not be returning to Looking Glass. Better alternatives are everywhere. read more

Dr. Dong, the office you are referring to, told me that they didn't know why your office even contacted them because they wouldn't even see her for those symptoms. Their staff was rude and condescending and it was apparent to both myself and to them that your office was in fact pawning us off to them. We appreciate the treatment from you during our interactions, however, the interactions with some of your staff have been unpleasant and trying to schedule appointments are hit and miss. I did request a call from either you or Dr. Chang to discuss this issue further but instead have received a response via Yelp. While you might say, you care about your patients and their health, your office's actions prove otherwise!!! read more

I just had my 3rd annual eye exam with Dr. Dong. I am always impressed with his professionalism. His bedside manner is outstanding. He is extremely personable and explains everything he is doing during the exam and why he is doing it, or what it helps him understand about your eyes. When I was a new patient, Dr. Dong patiently worked with me to find contacts that were comfortable for me. I went back for 2 follow up visits after my initial exam just to try new contact lenses until I found some that fit my needs. The staff is also friendly here and they are helpful but never pushy about buying products at their practice. Gosh I am so happy I found this place! From the moment I walked in I felt welcomed. The assistant who helped me in the beginning with the exam was very thorough and talked me through each step and made me feel very comfortable. I personally hate getting my eyes checked and I did not feel uncomfortable at all when she helped me. Dr. Dong was awesome and his bedside manner could not be replaced. I came in for an exam and contact lens fitting and left feeling like I could do anything. It only took me 15 minutes with a very knowledgeable assistant who was very patient with me as I tried to get a contact lens out of my eye. She was very patient and I eventually got it only after 15 minutes! They stayed past the closing time just to help me out and schedule my follow-up appointment. What more can you ask for? They didn't complain or anything. If I could give tips I would. All I can do though is give a great referral for others to make sure they see if their insurance is covered here and come here. You won't be sorry. I have yet to check out their glasses and frames but plan to do that when I do my follow up visit about my contact lenses. read more

Can't say anything bad about my experience with the office staff or Dr. Cheng, everyone was extremely nice and knowledgeable about eye care and the products they carry. Initially I went to receive a comprehensive eye check since I had been experiencing light sensivity and headaches I believe we're caused by poor eyesight. Within 45 minutes I had completed my appointment and picked out a pair of reading/computer glasses with prescription. The office features a large assortment of glasses and different brands and are reasonably priced. I have VSP vision insurance and the comprehensive eye check cost me only $20 out of pocket, I received $180 towards my glasses, and on top of that also received 20% off the price of the glasses. I was able to put half the payment down to order the glasses, and pay the other half once I went to pick them up which I found to be extremely convenient. Dr. Cheng was extremely nice and made me feel at ease, explained to me what was causing my vision problems and recommended glasses with a blue light reflector. The young woman who helped me pick out my glasses and did the initial eye tests was very nice and let me know it would be a 2 week lead time to receive them. I actually received them MUCH sooner, I was happy to receive a notice only 4 days later saying they were ready for pick up. The office was not busy at all and parking was easy to find, I will definetely be coming her again because of the great service and care. read more

Worst prices i have ever seen. They lack follow up on mistakes and I've been wait for my glasses for over a month now. Tried calling them to see when my glasses would be here and it took them nine minutes of me waiting on the phone just to find my charts and tell me there is nothing they can do because the factory is closed. I try to use smaller businesses when possible but I'm getting my glasses at Costco now. Without a doubt. They charged 700$ for "premium" glasses that broke after four months of standard use. Today was my second visit to Looking Glass Optometry. I requested Dr.Cheng, as I couldnt be more pleased with her knowledge and professionalism during my first eye exam last year. I brought her a small token of my appreciation for her thorough approach to my visual affliction. For many years I suffered with severe headaches on a daily basis, never knowing the real source of the cause. Two seperate eye Dr.s said I had an astigmatism but the prescription would make my headaches worse, so i never wore the glasses. After briefly explaining my symptoms that had caused my visit to Looking Glass, Dr. Cheng quickly solved the headache issue with a prism prescription, informing me that i do not in fact have an astigmatism like the 2 prior Dr.s stated but rather, a higher visual axis on one side, which when tired would cause double vision to occur. Made an eye exam appointment over the phone, they take my VSP insurance and the Yelp reviews were decent. Was taken back to a room with 4 machines to test my eyes 5 minutes after my appointment time, was there 20 minutes early, No Problem. The assistane told me about a eye picture that was used for the doctor that was not coverered by my insurance, $40 more, opted out of it, 33 years old and just started having vision problems. The tests were not to bad, first eye exam, and then walked me out to look at frames, many choices, many prices, many.... Did not like the idea of glasses, and just browsed while waiting to see the doctor. Did not like anything at first. Dr Dong then came out and asked me to come to his office where he did some examing of my eyes and looking at the chart with different machine. Pretty straight forward and pleasant. Really like the doctor, thought he was helpful and friendly. Told me that I am just a few clicks away from perfect vision and I only needed a mild prescription. Went back and tried to find a pair of glasses, now knowing that I actually needed them. I picked out two, quoted mE the prices and options for the lenses that were recommended for my problem. I continued to look, as they will be on my face and I must were them for periods of time. Liked another pair, more than the other two. I left because it was late, the assistant wrote down the frame models in my chart. Came back the next day and looked over most the frames again and went ahead and ordered them. Two weeks and i will have by glasses. Very Friendly, not pushy or trying to sell me everything in the store. Talked and helped me find a pair that fit me, helped look at sunglasses for prescription as well, though I did not find pair I loved. May get lenses in one of my frames I already own. read more

Absolutely fantastic place! Was searching for a new eye doc because I really really disliked my eye doctor back in Walnut Creek. Found this gem on yelp and I couldn't be happier. I saw Dr Cheng today, she was so amazing and is so great at what she does. I'm recovering from a concussion and have damaged my vestibular nerve which Dr Cheng was able to find through the tests done. Through her findings and wise recommendations, my concussion doctor and she were able to come to conclusion that I need to see an neuro-ophthalmologist. Listen- She is going out of her way to help me right now. Insane, I know! When's the last time a busy and with a -back to back patient schedule- individual went out of their way to help you? Right? I am so excited to have found an amazing facility. The front desk girl was super friendly and helpful. The girl who helped me find my perfect pair of glasses was also awesome and answered every question I had. She made it super easy for me to understand how my insurance would work so that I had a full understanding of what I was facing. She also called me back because she found more insurance I could use and refunded me money back into my account over the phone. I know, mind blown!!! So. Overall a 100 stars out of 5! ;) Thank you all for being such helpful staff members. So hard to find nowadays as customer service continues to diminish in America. So yes, this place is one of the best place I have been to and I have been going to eye doctors since I was 8. I have been a patient for a long time. I recently switched over to VSP as I was formerly with Contra Costa health plan. I came in last week to get an eye exam and to pick out new glasses. I was told it takes a few weeks with the brand I chose as it is from Japan. I received an email a few days later stating my glasses were ready for pick up. I come to find out the frames were the same ones on display. The only way I knew this was because the frames were bent outward from patients trying them on. After paying $230+ dollars on my glasses, I expect them to be new frames ordered from the manufacturer. This made me feel disrespected. It was not disclosed to me that they would be the same frames on display, especially after the woman told me that it takes weeks to arrive. This means I was going to be charged the regular price for frames that were on display when I could of been given new ones for the same price. Even after insurance I paid $230. I expect to be given what I paid for. I am shocked at this situation and deserve an explanation as to why an ongoing patient would be treated this way. read more
