GREAT FOR ALL AGES!!! My husband, my daughter and I are all patients with Looking Glass. My daughter's first visit was when she was 5 years old and they were so good with her! She's been going back every year since and really enjoys seeing them. They have a great selection of frames to choose from in all price ranges. If you've seen a frame you like and they don't carry it, they'll see if they can order it for you. They are very easy to work with and very patient (I take forever to pick my frames). If needed they'll explain ever test to you so you can understand the process. Additionally they are not there to sell you anything - they are no-pressure when it comes to frames, lenses, exams. I have been coming to see Dr. Eileen Cheng for over ten years, and she and the staff there are absolutely fantastic! Dr. Cheng is thorough, gentle and really takes her time with every patient. I miss my old optometrist. I finally found one I liked in SoCal then I moved back up to the Bay Area. I found my old one on Yelp, so I came here to find one around the area and I decided to go to Looking Glass. They are friendly and polite. I saw the female doctor and she was very thorough in her job. I briefly discussed contact lenses with her and she was the first doctor to inform me that 1) with my astigmatism, glasses are better for my vision and 2) if I wanted to try contacts, sometimes each eye would need a different one, even from a different brand, so that was refreshing. They were helpful picking out my frames and estimated it would take 2 weeks. I got them a week later (today!) and I love them. However, they are barely a day old and are already slipping down my nose so I might take them back to get adjusted, but that's not their fault. Go here! :) read more

This place was so terrible. They quoted me 170 for an exam and then after I got there the "doctor" made this enormous production about how to care for my lenses and manipulated me into trying on bifocal contacts even though I'm only 35 and did not ask for this. She told me I should really try them blah blah. So I put them on and humored her. When I went to pay they charged me 265 and said the extra 95 was what they charge for a "fitting". -- So basically they charged me 100 dollars to use their mirror and listen to the eye doctor Lady talk about nothing. Then when I asked them to email me my prescription they did not. So I called six months later to ask them again and they said that I needed to come in for another exam since I failed to call them to follow up on the shitty bifocals I never asked them for. I told them I was terrified they might charge me for calling them. This place totally sucks. I threw away 300 dollars and went almost a year without contacts because this experience sucked so badly. Go to Walmart. It's the same service $114 without the terrible manipulation techniques. read more

Looking Glass Optometry was the third Optometrist I brought my daughter to. The first 2 were disappointing in selection of frames, and seemingly unexperienced admin staff. NOT the case at Looking Glass. From the moment I spoke with the receptionist, they took the time to call my insurance provider to confirm my coverage going above and beyond b/c our provider is a nightmare to deal with. So for them to take that over for me was already winning this excellent yelp. Their systems in making the appointment, getting you in to see the doctor, post patient care and the selection of frames were incredible. I didn't think a business could make such a mundane office visit so rewarding, but they do! You know those businesses that really care about your experience and most likely have staff meetings to ensure all are on board with the work ethic intended? Yea, this place is obvs. doing that. They are the standard! It's like a Nordstrom's service experience w/eye glasses. -And totally genuine! Of course any team reflects their leader and Dr. Cheng sets the bar very high w/regards to treating her patients. Being that she was the third Dr I've been to, I had something to compare her service integrity to and was extremely impressed! The word passionate is thrown around so much and a little off definition in some contexts, but passion and total immersion in her field of expertise is how I'd describe her. Dr. Cheng is an artist of her craft and it is very apparent in her work. I feel lucky to have such a great place to go for such an important need. I adore this entire operation! Dr Cheng has recommended new contact lenses for me twice as new and better technology became available for my hard-to-fit (astigmatic) eyes. Both times this was a real improvement for me. She also does a great job of listening to my input about concerns I have, and explaining anything I don't understand. As mentioned here before, the staff is genuinely friendly and helpful. Dr. Cheng improved my quality of life 100 fold. She helped me figure out the right combination of lenses to allow me to do the things I like to do without wearing readers. This review is solely about the girl, Stephanie who 'may' help you find a pair of frames. The customer service gets a negative rating. If you walked in feeling fine, you may walk out thinking I'm never going back there again. I visited the office twice, the first time the optometrist was helpful. The second time Stephanie was less than helpful. However, I called the office later to see if I could give them my business. Stephanie answered and feigned politeness, was not attentive to my question and when I asked her to have the optometrist phone me back, and then asked her to repeat my phone number she hung up on me! Yes, another FIVE STAR review for Looking Glass. I've been wearing glasses for 52 years and can't begin to tally how many optometrist offices I've been in. But I haven't ever had a better experience than with Looking Glass. Dr. Dong is extraordinary. Super nice guy, efficient, helpful, really knows his stuff and will do everything necessary for you to understand exactly what's going on. And the staff is wonderful. Lali is the best front office person in the history of front offices. I have a complicated prescription and it took my previous doctor from August to October to get my glasses. Looking Glass took six days. Seriously. SIX DAYS from exam to delivery. They are very smart about which suppliers and labs really get the job done. And I think this somewhat rare: at no point did they try to up-sell me. No urging me toward expensive frames, no pushing me to get a second pair, prescription sunglasses, contacts -- none of that.. read more

Both optometrists are excellent, but I am a huge fan of Dr. Cheng. She works with you until you get the best results possible. For years, I needed reading glasses (mostly for astigmatism) plus my contacts, which was a big hassle. I didn't like having to carry them around. Dr. Cheng tried a variety of contact lens options and now, I have given up my reading glasses. I have good vision at most ranges and can read with my contacts. I'm extremely pleased with the professionalism and care I receive at Looking Glass Optometry. Because I am now suffering from short-arm syndrome (I can't get a piece of paper far enough away to read) and the previous "fix" is no longer effective (one eye for reading and one eye for distance), they provided a free set of my new multi-vision extended-wear contacts (the contact version of bifocals only so much better!) to wear for a week to ensure they would be both effective and comfortable before I placed my order. Equally important if you, too, are a busy professional - I've never been made to wait beyond my scheduled appointment. On a more humorous note, while reviewing the options and costs with the office administrator, she calculated everything - accurately - with the calculator facing ME, not her. I'm not entirely certain how she did that but I sure got a kick out of it. She probably noticed my short arms. Ahem. read more

I love this Optometrist! The doctors and staff are so friendly and easy to work with. They have a nice selection of glasses to choose from. The doctors are always really good at explaining things to me so that I can understand about my eye health, etc. I appreciate that. I am very impressed with Dr Cheng at Looking Glass Optometry. I tried them out based on the rave reviews of my friend, Wendy C. I really didn't believe that anyone would take the time and really be able to figure out site challenges, but Wendy doesn't give a recommendation without meaning it. I had always been told that my eyes would never work with contacts. Dr. Cheng never gave up and I just knew that she deeply cared about being able to do what others couldn't. Another optician downtown WC had tried his hand at fitting me for contacts a few years ago (his idea) and I couldn't read street signs with what he gave me. I'm a realtor, and I need to read street signs. That was the best he could do so I really gave up. I think his trial and error cost over $200 and I had nothing to show for it. Dr. Cheng thought outside the box and we learned that my eyes worked best with two different brands. No single brand worked on both eyes, so that is what she prescribed. I LOVE them. I don't even think about them, and I love only needing glasses for reading the fine print. Day to day I am good to go. Dr. Cheng is also nice and has a sense of humor. I am looking forward to next years' check-up. read more

You Can't Go Wrong With Dong! Dr. Dong is as knowledgeable as he is friendly. When a pair of glasses I purchased from them wasn't working as well as I'd liked, he walked outside with me and had me look at objects around the building (their blurriness was what made me think things weren't right) as part of confirming that I had astigmatism. My spouse and I have been going to Looking Glass Optometry for over 10 years. Both Drs. Dong and Cheng are dedicated to your overall health, not just updating your prescription. I had a loss of color saturation that they identified and sent me to a retinal neurologist to ensure it wasn't a serious problem. They offer hi-def photos of your eye so that there is a baseline to monitor your visual and overall health from year-to-year. They are so personable, professional and take their time with you to answer questions and ensure that all is well. What more could you want? Oh yeah, like a great line of high quality frames! I finally found awesome Ray Bans. Not too exspensive but no price matters when it comes to my eyes being satisfied. I went in on a saturday which was very convinient for me, found my RayBans, gave my prescription to the lady, paid half of the total cost that day and half on pick up.
