Felt like we were interrupting their day even though we were the only customers. Very unwelcoming, rushed, inpatient with my nervous teen and some odd remarks that made her cry on the way home. I've been coming here for years. Once a year - I do my free glasses from VPN (the same insurance everyone has) every other year. The doctors here are great. The people working behind the counter don't joke around and take their time and go off into the back room and giggle while they're supposed to be working (like other eye doctor offices over by Clayton and Oak Grove). You're in, you get your exam and you're out. How it should be. Location is good too. The free glasses (every other year) can be a little bit of a quandary as their "selection" of course isn't cheap so you don't have a lot of options, if you use it (I have literally not used it a couple times simply because the glasses available for this option are so expensive). You're given a certain amount for your free glasses and I've been here before where their "free selection" prices were all over the amount VPN gives you. I don't like that. Honestly, you can get glasses on line now way cheaper so that's what I do a lot of the time now. Otherwise, this is a very good optometrist to see. read more

I am not sure who good a specialist Kenneth Gee is but his bedside manners are pretty bad. He scared me by his diagnoses big time. When I saw a specialist, it turned out he was not right. He doesn't have any empathy for his patients. read more

I went to Dr Gee for a basic prescription update. He was thorough and great and took his time to do it right. He actually found a small retinal tear I'd probably been living with since birth and I went to get surgery the same day on his referral. Dozens of optometrists likely have seen it but he is the only one who was detail oriented enough to find it and now it's resolved. Incredibly grateful. read more

TL;DR: I 100% recommend Dr. Bryan Doherty without reservation! Longer Version: I've been wearing glasses for (ugh, I'm old!) 39 years, and contacts for 30 years. Over those years, I've worked with literally dozens of optometrists and ophthalmologists. Whether it be regular eye exams to check the health of my eyes, receiving an Rx for glasses, getting "fitted" for contact lenses, or even getting examined for Lasik and ICL / IOL surgery. After a terrible experience with an optometrist at Sears (yeah, what was I thinking?) I got referred to Concord Optometry by my brother. I ended up seeing and working with Dr. Doherty. Of all the MANY professionals I've used over the past almost 40 years, Dr. Doherty was by far (not just by a small margin) more professional, experienced, and personable. He took the time to hear my (many MANY questions) and he answered them in clear / detailed ways where other professionals were impatient and/or struggled in communicating. With each of my visits I felt heard, understood, cared-for, and came away very comfortable and confident with the information and service I received. ... I actually ENJOYED the process of going to the eye Dr. What's up with that!?!? It is clear to see (see what I did there?) that Dr. Doherty is not only amazingly skilled and experienced at his job, but loves what he does... and that is conveyed perfectly to me... an incredibly satisfied (expectations-exceeded) customer and patient. read more

Very happy with Dr. Doherty and his staff. My entire family, inlcuding my young children, have been patients here for almost 8 years now. Quality exam, knowledgeable doctor, great office atmosphere. It has gotten a little harder to get an appointment in recent years, so just plan ahead. Costs for my contacts has also been cheaper ordering from the office than any online site in the past few years. They have been patient and great with my kids creating a positive relationship and expectation for the eye doctor. No complaints when the kids have to go. I was worried about a grain of sand that got in my eye and was hurting me for days. I don't have medical insurance and I was trying to avoid having to go to the doctor's, hoping it would go away on its own. Unfortunately, I noticed the grain of sand was still in my eye and I knew I couldn't get it out myself so I was now stressing about where to go. I figured I'd give Concord Optometry a try since it was so close to home and I figured if they couldn't help me there then at least they could point me in the right direction. Thankfully, I was able to get it taken care of right there and then; everyone was great there and Dr. Gee is awesome! I've been going to D. Gee for over 10 years now and would highly reccomend him. He is very thorough, attentive, informative and professional. I never feel rushed as I have in past optometrist's offices and he always explains the status of my vision as I get older. Dr Gee has a great personality & sense of humor. I picked him because he was a graduate of UC and I retired from Cal after 30+ years. He has never failed me and you won't be sorry if you pick him as well. I was having a lot of pain in one of my eyes last week, felt like I had scratched my cornea. Kaiser was taking too long to get back to me so I called Concord Optometry to see if they could fit me in. Dr Dougherty was able to squeeze me in and I only waited 20 mins. Dr Dougherty took the time to explain what was going on and even drew me a diagram! I was fully prepared to pay out of pocket for the exam, but he was super generous and gave me a discount. Can't recommend them enough! read more

I am very particular about my lenses. I recently changed from another optometrist and this was my first experience with this office. Dr. Gee was very thorough and after reviewing my records I selected my glasses. When ordering, I neglected to include some options from previous glasses orders. When I got my glasses, I was not happy. After I got home, I seriously considered ordering glasses from another vendor. Fortunately, the office manager called back and offered to allow me to add the options I needed. I am grateful for this excellent customer service and look forward to receiving my glasses. Just left the office, and could not be happier. After looking for a local doctor on yelp, I chose Concord Optometry and they were able to get me in next day. Dr. Doherty is by far the best doctor I've ever encountered. He was super friendly and I felt right at home from the second he came into the room. Most doctors would have sent me away with a prescription, but he explained in good detail why glasses, for me, would be unnecessary. To top it off, not only is he referring me to a surgeon for my condition, deemed irrepairable by previous doctors; he's researching who would be best for my case. A few years ago I was in the shopping center, my glasses kept slipping off my nose. I saw Concord Optometry and went in to see if I could get my glasses tightened. They were very friendly and attentive to my request. 4 years later, on Wednesday I urgently needed to see a doctor, called all around Concord to see if I could get an appointment somewhere... nothing available, found Concord Optometry and decided to give it a shot. Lucky for me there was a spot where someone cancelled the next day. so, I went to my appointment and was very impressed by their friendliness and expert service. Everyone there treated me like I was important and they were there to help me. (unlike some of the chains I visited in the past) I really liked my doctor (Dr. D) and the front desk staff helped me alot and answered questions about my new glasses. I must say it was a great experience. btw, I was out running errands, working in the yard and was pressed for time so when I showed up for my appt. He also doesn't try to sell you on things you don't need The staff was very helpful letting me know what my insurance paid for, etc... This place really is as good as it gets. The main reason I make this claim is because both eye doctors are extremely personable and show that they care about each of their patients. I am someone who likes to ask questions, especially if it's health related. So every time I go to the doctors I will ask questions about my health as well as ask to go into more detail about certain comments made by the doctor. There are times (at other medical offices) where I can just tell they are trying to rush me out with simple one sentence responses, or they just tell me "not to worry about it". That kind of stuff irks me a little. However, with both of the eye doctors at this location, you will never have to worry about feeling rushed or feel treated as "just another patient". When I ask questions or have concerns about my eyes or ask for clarification, both doctors take the time to explain, in detail, what they are referring to. It's a great feeling. They make themselves very approachable to their patients. In addition, they never force glasses on to you. There is no sense of "Sales" when discussing glasses. They simply give you the option, you make a choice on what you want to do and that's that. It's a simple process and not an uncomfortable one either where you feel like you have to walk out with a new pair of 500$ frames. The staff will support you in your decisions. This really is one of those rare places where I will say, "WOO HOO! As good as it gets!" Try it, I'm sure you'll feel the same way. :) read more

Based on VSP provider list and YELP reviews, I decided to give them a try. Called earlier this week, and was able to get an appointment this morning. Saw Dr. Doherty, who was very sweet, respectful, warm and professional. Turns out my eyes are in great shape (better than I expected!), and my current glasses (OTC for computer and reading, and last year's prescription for distance) are still perfectly fine. He wrote me a prescription, but told me I didn't need to fill it. (NO pressure to buy glasses there!) The older, heavily-made-up reception person was a rather abrupt, sour-faced pill, and couldn't be bothered to help me. But the younger one was a total sweetie, from intake to check-out! There was another woman helping people choose new glasses. She was also kind, respectful, and very helpful. The facilities are well-organized, and immaculate. I don't drive, but it looked like there was plenty of lot parking. It's right on the #10 bus line, so is a breeze to get to. (As you're facing KMart, they're in the suite of buildings to the left.) I will definitely recommend them, and will go back!!! read more

My frame (not originally purchased here) broke after my daughter fell on it. The manufacturer had me call the distributer about how I could go about getting it fixed. The distributer didn't tell me how much the part costs that I needed to get my frames fixed, but told me which places around here sell the brand and may order it. I called the 10 closest places and only one offered a price that was reasonable without trying to rip me off. Concord Optometry. When some places wanted to charge me $95, I only paid $26 here. That means all of the other places where trying to make a profit, while this place fixed my frame for just the cost of the part. Also, I really like this office. It looks really nice and professional; not some hole in the wall (which is great for food but not want you want out of a medical professional). read more

Customer service at this place is horrible. I work retail, I know what its like to be busy. Its the holidays I get it. But when you don't answer multiple phone calls...and then I go into the store to make an appointment and am told to sit down and wait, thats not ok. The woman did not apologize for the wait or not answering the phone call and simply said we've been busy. You should not have the same women working with customers and at the counter. I'm very disappointed. I had a Saturday appointment and I missed it due to an unforeseen situation. Due to this the office has now put an alert on my account and I'm no longer able to schedule a Saturday appointment. Talk about having a power trip!!! My advice to you... please do not have an emergency in your life if you have an eye doctor appointment. Make sure you cancel your appointment prior to your emergency or you'll be penalized for life. I have been going here for at least 10 years and have truly never had a bad experience. I usually always see Dr. Gee but have on occasion seen Dr. Dougherty as well - both of which I highly recommend! Dr. Gee always goes above and beyond to make sure that my eyes are taken care of and I always leave feeling satisfied and content with my visit. There are times that I run out of contacts and he gives me a pair to use until my new order comes in. The staff has always been pretty helpful even though they change every year.
