Definitely a lot better since Dr. Wang retired. I agree with a review below about how she would upsell on glasses and sunglasses and it was really frustrating because of the lack of say I felt I was able to have. Previous optometrists had always left the try-on to the client, so that was a big change for me. But now it's back to normal! No one was hovering over me and I was able to try on the ones I wanted to see and get some good (completely covered by insurance) suggestions as well. Glad I stuck with this place! read more

I recently went in for an optical evaluation (eye test) at East Bay in Concord, CA with Dr. C Wang. Once the process began, she asked me numerous personal questions which I unwittingly answered. After completing the process, she insisted showing me expensive frames when I told her I was a senior on a budget. I felt bullied by her and ended up buying the high-end frames because of her insistence. Total cost came to over $800.Once arriving home, I felt I had coerced into the purchase. I called the office and insisted that I wanted a refund, which she ultimately agreed to. Her demeanor was aggressive. I would never recommend any optical transactions with this business and provider. She conned me into this transaction. Best recommendation is to take your business elsewhere. read more

Pushy customer service and hard sells. Dr Wang asked so many personal questions for no reason. I never asked for contact lens and I mentioned I didn't want contact lens but I was given a try-on and later charged for it. I was also given some free daily contact lens to go home with but they were all beyond expiry date. It was a very weird experience and I haven't been back since. read more

If you wish to pick out your own frames, do not come to this business. I was told to sit in a chair and not get up. I had an uneasy feeling about this, but stayed put. Dr. Wang chose several frames for me to try on. She likes to talk and puts you at ease. Before I knew it, I had agreed to buy a pair of glasses and a pair of sunglasses. The cost of the glasses was about $565, and the sunglasses cost over $1,100. When I got home, I realized I had buyer's remorse. I did not get the glasses that I really wanted. Called to see if they accept my in laws insurance. They asked several qualifying questions before saying no then hanging up on me. I called back again to ask why all the qualifying questions if you're just going to say no, get to the point. She tells me there was a bad connection and hangs up again. I call a third time to ask why they continue to hang up on me? But I got their voicemail and shared my thoughts. They lost two patients with one stone. Get a grip on your customer service! read more

From the moment I made the first phone call to the time of pickup I was treated with respect and courteousness. This is the best optometrist I have ever been to. I have been a Kaiser patient my whole life (and continue to be one) although our vision insurance is now VSP. My honey checked out local VSP providers and discovered East Bay Optometry, and Dr. Wong, just down the street. We decided it was worth a try! I popped in while running errands one day, with the intention of checking out their selection of frames. I was greeted immediately and once I mentioned the purpose of my visit, the person helping me promptly gathered my information to check on my insurance and all that jazz. Dr. Wong, in between patients, came out to say hello. After perusing my information, she told me that she would like to do an eye exam, to ensure that my most recent prescription was the most accurate. I asked if she had availability that day and she saw me right then and there! (I'm 99% sure that she skipped her lunch break to see me.) During my exam, Dr. Wong asked if I was interested in contacts and when I said no, she asked "Is it because you don't like the idea of putting in contacts or because you like wearing glasses?" I appreciated this differentiation and responded that I really like the look of glasses. The contacts conversation ended there. After my exam, Dr. Wong personally helped me to pick out new frames and provided her honest opinion of which ones were a good fit for me. She even took some photos for me so I could text them to my honey for a third opinion. She recommended the same "upgrade" that I had on my previous glasses (i.e. anti-reflection) and nothing more. I can understand why some people may feel rushed because Dr. Wong is definitely a fast-paced, task-oriented person. However, that is totally my style and I appreciate her no-nonsense approach! She didn't make any major changes to my previous (Kaiser) prescription, although she did fine tune it a bit and I can definitely tell the difference. A week after my appointment my new glasses were ready for pick up. One of her staff helped me with my pick up and made sure that my new glasses fit perfectly before I left. My honey has since had an appointment here and was also pleased with his exam experience, the selection of frames, and his new prescription sunglasses. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before. There was an interrogatory about my life and then a huge pressure to spend $300 after insurance in glasses. I have good insurance and don't need to pay much after the insurance is used. I went there planning to get two pairs of glasses and got just one for reading paying as little as possible. The treatment I received was no guidance, it was condescending strong pressure to buy. I felt pressured and uncomfortable. I went to pick up the glasses today. I went with this place because with my insurance, my options are extremely limited. I wish I would have read the reviews before I went in. The exam part was fine, that part I'm okay with. It's the sales part that left me feeling like I should never come back. The Doctor decided what kind of frames I need. Fine. She helped me through several pairs until I settled on one that wasn't horrible. But it was the absolute pressure I felt to buy these damn frames and buy them NOW that made me so uncomfortable. I told her I was underemployed, had very little money, and she tells me I can make two payments. Great. It was also the suggestion that I go somewhere and get some cash, or I can just give her a credit card that really made me feel like I should have left at that point. There was no way in hell I was getting out of there without forking over some money. I would have liked to have had the opportunity to think about it. I also got the feeling that if I hadn't made a purchase, that she wouldn't have let me have my prescription slip. Her staff was great. First and foremost this is a small mom and pop store, as such they are in it to make money. So I suggest you call them first to make sure they accept your insurance and ask how much is your out of pocket costs so you would not be surprised. It may seem Dr Wang is cold, you have to understand time is money so she is very direct, no nonsense professional person. When I had issues with my frames she and her staff help me do a swap and adjustment. Her exams are accurate and efficient, her staff is friendly and will help you pick out stylish frames, she does take your own frames (BYOF) as long as it will fit reasonably she will not RX the glasses if she feels they are too big/small or bad fit (for your benefit). I believe their preferred ins is VSP and can give deeper discounts for VSP members. read more

BUYER BEWARE! negative 10 stars I haven't been to an eye Dr. in a few years. I am a big supporter of local and mom and pop locations versus big chains like lens crafters and so on. This was one of the worst places I have ever gone to by far. I made an appointment for my husband and myself for this location. Upon arrival it seems very small and outdated. The equipment is very outdated compared to the place I went to several years ago. Connie was more interested in picking out the highest priced frames and all the add on for lenses she can find and not listening to the customers needs. My real problem came when I said I did not want progressives again because they were very hard for me to see my computer and made me feel unstable walking and driving. Connie insisted on trying them again since it had been so long. I went back and forth insisting that I would rather have 2 pairs of glasses then one that I can't see out of. Connie insisted if I did not like them they would fix it. So I figured I didn't have anything to lose. Well....I received them and they were worse than the last pair I had years ago. She had me get the blue computer tint that had such a negative effect while driving I couldn't see at all. I tried them for 2 weeks and absolutely hated them. I called to bring them back and this is where it all went wrong. Connie insisted that I get the progressives against my very strong wishes. When I went to return them for what I originally wanted she said there was no refund. I asked several times for the policy and she never gave it to me and refused to refund me for the progressive. She claimed they were non refundable, She NEVER said that to me before the purchase. Why would I just toss $200 away!. I would have purchase 2 frames to get what I wanted. Her whole attitude sucked and I can't believe I was so blatantly lied to. I called VSP to let them know and they said they will record my complaint but could not do anything. Progressives were $189. I totally feel she stole my money and only was willing to give me readers for $450. (CVS $10) I guess there is a reason for chains. I will be going to from now on. Better equipment and service. The poor excuse of an optometrist is condescending and rude. She's on a power trip and is verbally abusive, especially to her staff which becomes very awkward and uncomfortable for everyone present. She made me wait 30 minutes when I was the first appointment of the day with no one else there and she said it was my fault I'm inconvenienced because everyone should expect "doctors" to make people wait for "no more than 30 minutes" and it was only until I told her I had to go to work that she decided to help me. The place to go if you want to be treated unprofessionally and with contempt and hostility when the optician makes a prescription error. If you tell her your vision is still blurry after receiving new lenses, she pushes you out the door stating it's your fault - your eyes are at fault!! I have gone to East Bay Optometry for over 10 years. During that time I have had no problems with the glasses they have prescribed for me (unlike previous experiences I had). My bifocals are perfectly calibrated. The prescription is always correct, the glass is properly mounted and the fit is comfortable. Not only that, but they have repaired my glasses expertly to make them like new on numerous occassions, even times when it didn't look possible. My Husband and I went to DR Connie Wang with Prescriptions in hand. The Dr. we had our eye exams at person that helped with the glasses quit, so we just needed glasses made. When we first got to DR.Wang's office I was pleased at first because she seemed was very covid friendly, she didn't allow us to try on any glasses, she was the only one that could touch them. I'm a VERY high-risk person Dr.Wang picked out the style and said this would be best for me. The only thing i didn't like was that Dr.Wang kept talking over me. but we went ahead and ordered glasses. Mine price was $367.00. we paid and waited for a call that they are in. Got a call went to pick them up. Went in they adjusted them ,i left. Got home and tried the glasses on and they were blurry to see thru, I called Dr. Wang's office and talked to the Receptionist, and she said if i had my old prescription to drop it off and the glasses anytime. So, i went across town to drop off my glasses and the door was locked and the Dr. herself said i had to make a appointment to just drop them off, after a few minutes she opened the door and i handed her my glasses, she said she would call me the next day. When she called, she kept saying that i need to try them on without my mask on at her office ,i told her no way. But i was trying to tell her what i thought the problem was and she just wouldn't listen to me, so in the meantime we are waiting for my Husbands glasses. So, when we went back to get both pairs of glasses, we went in, and my Husband got his and she was talking to me and turned to go in back room (as we were speaking) I said i can't hear you and her reply was ' I am not talking to you, I'm talking to my Husband, and you don't need to hear it' That was so rude, I got mad and i never cussed or raised my voice. i told her to give me a refund or give me my glasses and she refused me a refund i called within 1 hour after leaving her office. And she also refused to give me a detailed statement break down of the prices of the glasses. So now i am out $367.00 for a pair of glasses i can't wear. I want to update my review to commend Dr. Wang on the infinite care she takes to make sure that my prescription is absolutely perfect for both eyes. I wear bifocal contact lenses that correct one eye for reading and the other for distance. With Dr. Wang's careful testing of every possible correction, I can see very small print, easily read my computer screen and clearly read street signs. I am thrilled with my contacts, with my progressive lenses on my glasses, and with the professional care I've received from Dr. Wang. She's the best. read more

I went to Wong to get measured for contact lenses. Wong is part of john muir network and was recomened by blueshield of California. After charging me $150..oo for the service Wong would not give me the prescription since I was not purchasing contact lenses from her. When I went back a second time her male employee told me over the phone that she took my file home to study it. Two lies donot make a truth. I came in last week after 2 years and Dr. Wang still remembers me and the conversations we have had in the past. It feels really good knowing that no matter how many patients your doctor treats on a day to day basis, she still remembers you. This place has a great selection of eyeware, I am very picky and every time Dr. Wang has a great selection to choose from. They accept almost every insurance, they give reminder calls, they do not rush getting you in and out. They spend the extra time to take care of your needs. Vision is extremely important and I have not ever felt rushed. Dr. Wang provides me great advice and takes care of her patients. I have been coming here for 8+ years and am very happy. I just had my first appointment with Dr. Wang. She was awesome. I found her using the VSP search engine through my insurance. I made my appointment through email in late October, listing the date and times I was available. I received a reply the next business day with optional appointment times. My appointment and insurance were confirmed within 2 business days and I never had to make a phone call. A week before my appointment I received a reminder. The appointment was quick and efficient. I was greeted warmly by the receptionist/assistant who assisted me with new client forms and conducted a short pre-test. Dr. Wang conducted a brief interview to determine my previous optical/health experiences and in doing so insured I wasn't subjected to unnecessary test and reviews which was really appreciated. I put in an order for contacts and was relieved when I wasn't told I had to order a minimum of two boxes even though I have the same prescription for both eyes. I also selected a pair of glasses and was shocked when the price was less than the online sites advertised on TV. Don't be fooled, the type of lens you order online will not be the same quality as the lens you receive from your optometrist unless you pick the same quality/features, then you'll find insurance covers more than paying straight cash online. All in all it was a great experience, I will be recommending Dr. Wang to my co-workers so they can get seen before the year ends and they lose their 2015 allowances. I made an appointment with Dr. Wang months in advance and her assistants texted and called me several times to make sure I was coming. I got to my appointment early and filled out the paperwork. Then I waited for 30 minutes, during which time Dr. Wang talked on the phone to another patient about buying contacts from her, and then took a patient who came in after me without explanation. Apparently Dr. Wang office wants to make sure you come on time so you can wait while she prioritizes who she sees first and makes sure you know she's a physician that will see you at her leisure. In addition, Dr. Wong walked me through all payment and insurance options to ensure I had the best option for payment. ordered a year's worth of contacts and they were delayed at the Bausch and Lomb center through no fault of Dr. Wong. I called as I was going out of town and had no contacts left for my trip due to the delay. Dr. Wong went into the office and provided me with enough contact lenses to hold me over until the full order was received. Dr. Wong and her office went above and beyond and I highly recommend them. I went here based on the fact they have a large selection of frames to choose from despite the poor yelp reviews. Honestly I do not agree with most the reviews here at all as I actually had a pleasant experience. The eye test was quick as other reviewers had said but I in no way felt rush. If I asked to go back she let me with out an issue. If I seemed unsure in my answer she went back herself. I actually think it is a good thing it was a little quick cause otherwise sometimes you can start to doubt yourself when usually your first incling is the right one. Especially when the change was only slight which was often. I also didn't feel she was being over pushy on sales. Since I haven't had glasses before she actually said there was no reason to look into contacts yet as first it would be better to see how often I actually wear my glasses. She did put some add -on's on there like anti-glare but she told me told me what it was for and how much extra it cost. I could of easily told her I didn't want to. When picking out my frames I found her the most helpfull. I have never had glasses before and I don't even wear sunglasses so I really had no idea what would work for me. She picked out frames based on the shape of my head and then as I tried some on I started to get an idea of what I liked and didn't like and she was able to help me find frames suprisingly quickly. I did not feel rushed at all I actualy just liked the frames she showed me. She did not try to push anything exspensive on me and even stated the frames I picked were a good choice cause they would be free with my insurance. The only thing is she seemed insitent that I knew I needed glasses all my life and was just putting it off. Honestly I have never had an issue with my sight and didn't know anything was wrong until I went to the DMV to get my license renuied last time. I have a stigmatisim that apparently is not slight. I was told as a kid I had a stigmatisim but was honestly told I didn't need glasses but would when I was older. Strange encounters here. I had an eye exam and purchased two pairs of glasses here last year (one pair with progressive lenses, my regular type of glasses, and one pair of computer glasses, which I'd never had before. Kind of on the expensive side, but I wear them every day so I was more than happy to pay for them ). A month or so ago, I needed to have my progressive glasses adjusted as they were fitting very loose and one of the screws was very loose. Went in to get an adjustment, which I've done at many locations in the past. Was asked if I had an appointment, which I didn't, and the adjustment was done, but last week one of the nose pads broke off. Went in again, but made an appointment beforehand since I had been asked about that previously. After being asked, again, if I had an appointment and confirming that I did, I was told by Dr. Wang that I would have to leave my glasses because of how long the repair would take, although I hadn't been told that when I made the appointment . I told her, as I'm sure she would have to have known, that I couldn't drive without them, duh. . I was then told I would be charged $10 for the repair, which I paid because I needed my glasses! Not a big deal, but I told them, and it's true, that in the 60+ years I have been wearing glasses, I have NEVER been charged for an adjustment, whether I purchased the glasses at that location or not. I've been out of town, in the City at work, etc., and wherever I've gone they have been happy to make an adjustment and I've never been charged. It's not about the $10, it's more about the strange, never encountered experience. read more

Dr. Wong and staff are great. I stopped going to Lafayette Optometry ehhh not good people. anyway Dr. Wang is so nice she goes the extra mile with remembering who I am. I truly felt she cares about helping me. Maybe the reason some people here were offended by her trying to sell them something is because she wants to sell good product to people so they are happy (special coating, anti reflective type coating) it truly helps and costs extra. duh. Her staff is great very patient with me trying different types of glasses. Place is clean. Kid/children friendly(AWESOME). Toys in the waiting room. and i forgot to bring my todler a toy while getting my eyes checked oops. But she noticed in the middle of exam and reaches in a cupboard and pulls out awesome little toy box of bugs to play with. kept him happy and busy. How thought is that.
