Have been using Costco Optical and Optometry for years. The optometrist is actually an independent business with their office inside the warehouse...but their website, scheduling and stuff is separate. I have been seeing Dr. Rachel Reed for several years, and she has always been great to work with as my eyes (and the rest of me) get older. Last week got my update to glasses and contacts prescription, and had a great conversation about some of the other options out there (vision for golf, Lasik, cataract surgery, all the stuff you think about in your 60's LOL). I have VSP insurance through my employer benefits, and there are other options I have that take more of the VSP benefits...but then charge WAY more for services, products, filling prescriptions, and such. I've found over the years that the combination of Costco optometry (or, to be more precise, TM Optometry) and their optical department comes through with great service, and great value. I'll keep using them rather than the other local options. read more

I would give this Costco optometrist less than one star if there was that choice. I let him examine me and then write a prescription. Did not realize that he wrote me one for nearsighted vision. I am farsighted and have been since I was 3 years old. No excuse for that kind of incompetence. I will never visit him again, although I will shop for frames there. BUYER BEWARE. read more

Always a friendly experience at the Costco optical department. We received a call about a week later that my son's glasses were ready. We went in to pick up. The nice lady I think her name was Doreen helped my son and asked how the new glasses felt and if he needed any adjustments. She noticed my son was wearing his older glasses and the lens was held in with tape. She offered to fix them and she did! Just awesome even my son noticed the great customer service and was so happy. Horrible experience I purchased eyeglasses from Costco and went back the next day to tell them that the fit was off. I had to lower the glasses on my nose to see clearly otherwise the vision was blurry. I was told by the Costco optical tech, and I quote, " that is impossible". After several more arrogant and condescending statements he got upset and told me that I should tell him what is the solution. This review is for the department that sells eyeglasses. The Dr. who does eye exams next door is a separate business from this dept and I like him quite a bit. Avoid the Costco Richmond's eyeglass optical dept. While I have had nothing but good experiences elsewhere in the store, I have now had several rotten experiences in the eyeglass procurement department. Of the three times I've interacted with the dept., all three have had issues. The first and third times, the folks behind the counter were super rude (this time, Julia), really making the experience of getting glasses for the first time unfortunate. The second time I went in to choose glasses and get a fitting, the actually very nice person helping me admitted it was just their second week. It turned out they didn't know a lot of the basics about what kind of face should wear what kind of glasses, how to adjust them, colors, etc. The second more experienced person came in at the end of the sale, but were also helping someone else, so the glasses I got don't work for me functionally. I wish this department matched the ease and enjoyment of shopping in the rest of this store. read more

So surprised at the awful Customer service at clovis costco optical. They ordered the wrong teams and then argued with me. I needed up taking the frames and they had pen marks i couldn't get off. I live 45 minutes away and had to go 3 tines. Finally a manager said I'll take care of you and then she wasn't on shift and I had to deal with another awful manager Juliette. Not cool​ read more

Told me I had 90 days to return I came back with my different prescription in less than 3 weeks. They would honor it.

Pretty terrible experience with the eyeglass prescription. The Doctor's handwriting was not illegible his 5's and 6's look like 6's and this screwed my glasses and had to get them redone. Why is it so hard to give a printed copy of the prescription? You had one job to write the prescription and you could not do that right. read more

My eye exam went well, resulting in much better vision. The process ordering and getting glasses was not so good. To get service, you pull a number and wait until called. There is no place to sit while you wait, so you stand - a hardship for some. Once served, the staff were friendly. A tech helped me select frames and order two pairs of glasses (2nd pair for half price as advertised), with the Costco exchange policy. The 2nd pair were computer glasses and did not work for me, plus the frames did not fit (too large). I returned for an even exchange for a pair of regular Rx glasses. The service tech would not allow an equal-value exchange for my 2nd pair. Fortunately, the manager corrected the error, which I appreciated. After both trips, I never received a call or text message when the glasses were ready. The low prices are helpful. The staff were friendly and generally tried to be helpful. The exchange process was poor, and my overall experience was fair at best. read more

I've recently dealt with Oscar and Sandy (? - I had a hard time hearing her over the phone - my fault) at Costco Optical in Concord. They were attentive, friendly, organized, helpful, and efficient. The thing I like about Concord Optics is that they get back to you, answer their phone, and take the time to do the job right. I know Costco is a busy place, and that must be considered. I've been buying my glasses at Costco for years. Today I picked up my new glasses. The employee that helped me basically just handed me the glasses without making any attempt to adjust them to my head. What happened to the days of taking time to make sure the fit was right? I had great experience with Costco ophthalmologist as I was getting contact lenses. A young lady doctor did the exam and helped me. Gave me test lenses and observed my vision over a three week period. Outstanding service. Fernando at the vision center helped me to order the contact lenses. Top class customer service. Bad experience, waste of money. I brought in a prescription for computer glasses from my optician because I wanted a spare set without paying $350 that I paid for my prefect glasses I got from my optician. The person who assisted me with my order spent what seemed like minutes asking me the same question, do I use these for reading or for computer? I repeatedly told her I only use them for my computer. This was a red flag that in hindsight, I should have listed to. What she didn't tell me was that what I was getting "narrow band progressives" that would completely remove peripheral vision. I don't understand how removing ones peripheral vision would work for anyone. Personally I need mine. I spent $129 on a pair of glasses that are completely unusable for me, and when I brought them back to Costco Optical, the guy who assisted me basically made me feel like this was my fault. (Oh and by the way, I can't get my money back, this is Costco Optical, not Costco store that will take anything back). He said I will need to come back later and speak with the manager who is the only person that approve a return on eyeglasses. A $5 pair of reading glasses is 100% better than this pair. read more

Today is May 27 noon time I came to pick up my 2 progressive eye glasses Anel who were helping me supposed too it seems she is in a hurry, not a welcoming person. I have never had any optical person like her. It seems she doesn't like what she is doing. Came to pick up prepaid contact lenses. Asked an individual (Matthew) if I needed to take a number of if there was a different place I needed to go for the contacts. He pointed me in the right direction (theres a separate line for PREPAID CONTACT LENSES. But then I was ignored for the next 10 minutes as he and the other workers helped others. Eventually Sandy asked if I was there for contact lenses and said "You need to say something". I told her Matthew had sent me to that line, and didnt specify I needed to say "I'm in the prepaid contact lenses line because I want to pick up my prepaid contact lenses". I have been having a hard time with dry eyes. To the point I always feel like I have something in them. I had a great experience with Rachel Reed. She fixed it by giving me these wonderful eye drops. She listen really well to what you wanted to. Thinking about it in I wish I had did the contact example. She explains things well. I didn't feel like she was just pushing products on me. I have been very satisfied with the optical department at Costco. Do you have to take a number... yes. Is there sometimes a wait... yes. is it as bad as the DMV... of course not. I have purchased several pairs of prescription glasses (Concord Costco) and each time they have done a great job. I even had a pair of glasses that fell out of my pocket and got scratched. I brought them to Costco to see what could be done and they replaced the lenses for FREE. And they have great prices too. read more

I brought my twin teenage daughters for eye exams. They always got 20/20 at the pediatrician, but I felt something still might be wrong with their vision. One of the girls in particular has huge problems with fatigue and headaches. I didn't mention any of this to the eye doctor, just sent them in for their exams. She diagnosed both with convergent insufficiency. My girl with the most problems of course has it worse than her sister. We are so relieved to have a diagnosis. My first pair of glasses from Costco, Optometry Dept. The staff was pleasant at first. I had to return my first pair of glasses because they show a crack on the tip of the lens. No problem they took the glasses and replaced them. Same problem happen to my second pair of glasses. The clerk told me I was doing something wrong and it looked like I may be damaging the lens myself, but they said they would fix them, one more time. Ok, they fixed them and again (3rd pair) had the exact same problem in the same place. Three lens and the issue was the same with three lens.... It was a Coach frame from their department. I have been wearing glasses for 50 years, this is the first time I have ever had this problem with any glasses. The clerk continued to tell me it's my problem not theirs. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager is out and will call me as soon as he returns. Costco is great but the quality of the lens in the Optometry Dept. needs refining. read more

My experience there with the optometrist, Dr Rose, was excellent. She took the time to explain things to me about different types of contacts that I should try, esp since I have astygmatism. Gave a sample to wear for a week to see if I liked them. She's really knowledgeable on dry eye issues and what can help. Very thorough and caring. On top of it all, it's economically priced!! I was really upset by my experience with Dr. Miyasaki. I saw him over the summer and found him to be condescending, almost patronizing. I had questions about how my eyes worked, basic things about their health, and the way he talked to me was like he was rolling his eyes at me with his voice. I considered that perhaps this was just his default tone, but when I described how the contacts felt in my eye or how they changed the way I saw things and he scoffed at me and said "that makes no sense." It felt like he almost enjoyed embarrassing me. It was so strange. I ended canceling my follow up appointment so I wouldn't have to deal with him again and lo and behold, it turned out my contacts aren't even the right prescription. read more

Avoid- you get what you paid for. First of all you are guaranteed to spend at least an hour waiting. Second the customer service is super bad, they want to get rid of you as fast as possible and go to the next customer. Third they refuse to return or exchange the low quality frame they sell, and you'll waste the money on the glasses. Lastly, most insurance doesn't cover it. So, I was actually wrong, you don't even get what you paid for, you get nothing. Save your time and money, you will end up buying things you cannot use with bad customer service experience. read more

I always have an easy time here. Some people complain about wait times, which is silly. Unless you go to a private practice, if there are a lot of people in at a time, you have to wait. Get over it. My eye exam was seamless and the optometrist was GREAT! Then the experience changed when I went to get the prescription filled.... This review is only for the section which fills prescriptions for eyeglasses and frames. There is a CONSTANT WAIT here. I'm taking 20-60 minutes. You walk up and take a number, hang out with all of the other irritated people who aren't thrilled to be waiting, and then get helped. Let me say that the staff here are professional and friendly once you're being helped. It's just a horrid system and they need twice the number of people to help customers. It's unfair of Costco to put these employees in a position where they're dealing with annoyed people who have been waiting. It's just a management fail at work here. GET MORE STAFF! If you're prepared for a DMV-esque experience, step right up. Otherwise, if you're in a hurry, you'll get helped quicker anywhere else but here. read more

I wouldn't even give them a single star, but to write this review I was forced to. My story, I got my exam-prescription for glasses and contacts. I didn't order my contacts from them, because they mark it up too much $$$ from actually buying it from places like-Lens.com ( lens.com has the exact contact from the same manufacturer and a lot cheaper) Anyways, later I ordered replacement lens for my glasses from the prescription I got from Costco. And I found out that the prescription Costco optical gave me was wrong. I checked my old prescription and it was way off. I called them and told them that the prescription they gave me was wrong and that it has not expired yet, actually I still had more than a year left on it. But they said I would have to pay again for another exam, pay again to fix their mistake. I strongly strongly do not suggest to go them for any exam. Go to a reputable eye Physician. read more
