I've been a patient at Broadway Eyeworks for many years, and I can't say enough good things about Dr. Mock and the entire team. As we get older, our vision needs change, and this year my appointment turned out to be far more important than I expected. During my exam, Dr. Mock noticed a sign that prompted him to recommend I follow up with my regular physician. I did, and after additional testing--including simple bloodwork for Lp(a) and ApoB--I learned I have an inherited cardiovascular risk factor I otherwise would not have known about. Catching something like that early matters, and I'm deeply grateful for Dr. Mock's thoroughness and attention to the whole patient--not just whether I can read the eye chart. And beyond the medical care, the staff, especially Suzi, are wonderful. Choosing glasses and lens options can feel overwhelming, especially as we get older and our visual needs become more complicated. They take the time to ask thoughtful questions: How far away is your computer? What do you do all day? Are progressives the right fit? What are your goals? They don't rush you through the process or push you toward something generic. They genuinely work to help you find the best solution for your lifestyle and vision needs. Everyone is patient, kind, and knowledgeable, and I've always felt well cared for here. And they have the best selection of eyeglasses and sunglasses--I always find something I love. We returned to the Broadway Eyeworks store to request an adjustment to my newly purchased frame and prescription lenses, which had been picked up just two days earlier. This was an expensive purchase, and I expected both quality and proper customer service. While attempting to explain that the lenses did not meet the intended outcome of my order, Dr. Mock responded in a harsh and unprofessional manner. He refused to listen to my concerns or work toward a reasonable solution, even though adjustments and lens protection were included as part of the service I had paid for. During the interaction, Dr. Mock became increasingly aggressive. He threw the prescription toward me, spoke in a hostile tone, harassing me and dismissed my concerns in a belittling way. He then said, "Take it or leave it," and directed us toward the door, effectively ending the conversation without any attempt to resolve the issue. We left the store without any resolution and felt discouraged from returning, even if further problems arise. This experience was deeply disappointing. I would advise future customers to proceed with caution when dealing with this business. Especially with Dr. Mock and his wife. read more

Dr. Mock helped me understand my frustrations with my vision better than any other doctor I've seen. From my perspective, having a giant swirly mass floating in my field of vision drives me nuts and has ruined my ability to ski (drama!). Every other doctor I've seen has blown me off as it's "no big deal." Dr. Mock explained to me in a "a patient first" way why I have to live with my first world problem. So incredibly disappointed in this business. I can't say that enough. My husband's only paid of glasses broke, totally crunched, so we found the frames he specifically was seeking at Broadway Eyeworks. We ordered them and it took 2 weeks only for them to arrive with scratches on both lenses. So we sent them back to redo under a rush request especially since we had no backup pair of glasses for him to wear. It's now been 2 weeks again & are told they haven't even started on them but will now put in a rush request and to allow another 3-5 business days. Today is Friday so now they won't even start until next week. Seriously!!?! Will never deal with this business ever again. Terrible terrible customer service, follow through and poor quality. My boyfriend being on a search for some Gucci glasses for our upcoming vacation has been a little difficult to find the right fit. He called ahead and came in to try on. He wasn't sure about the fit on his face so decided to look elsewhere before making a decision. He put them down on the desk where they helped him and started to leave. An employee he thinks was named Nina called for him and said there was a pair of glasses where he was, accusing him of stealing. My boyfriend then told her "i only had the one pair you gave me and set them right there" pointing at them. She responds with attitude "uhhh alright." Common sense - Should NEVER accuse, unless you're sure! Completely offending someone who could've been a potential customer! Yes he didn't steal, so we're not worried about anything but of course, it's embarrassing to get accused in public like that, & makes it offensive because he didn't do it. I really, really, really wanted this place to work since it was recommended to me. My overall experience was somewhat of a disaster. The prescription was butchered and the customer service seemed amateur-ish. I think the optometrist should retire as it seemed like he was in a hurry to fill my prescription. It took 3 tries to even get my glasses close. They are still not right. But I give up. I only gave it 2 stars, because for the most part, they are nice people over there. I can see why this place has awful ratings. I walked in wanting to take a look at their Tiffany and Co style of sunglasses since my current optometry office had limited styles of the same brand.. I walked into this place and asked if I could try on the Tiffany brand sunglasses to find a style that fits my face shape. I was told I had to make an appt because they are short staffed. I said, "ok, I'll make an appt to try on sunglasses." They tried to tell me I can look through a catalog and my response to them was, "how will I know how it will look on my face? Faces are different shapes and sizes and not all sunglasses are a one size fit all." Then they tell me I have to be a patient to try on the glasses. I said to them, "my current optometry office told me I can go to any optometry office in the area and look at sunglasses without being a patient of that establishment, so I can get an idea of a style that I like." They got an attitude with me and told me I could just go to Lens Crafters. I told them I am not going to Lens Crafters and asked why I need ti be a patient to even try on a few pairs of sunglasses. It didn't make any sense at all. I do not recommend this place for any type eye care. If they treat people like this, I would certainly not want to be a patient of theirs and glad I am not. I can see clearly now my last season designer glasses with my old prescription are gone. I can see all obstacles through my new designer shades! It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun-Shiny day. All thanks to Broadway Eyeworks! I love this place! They take my vision plan, VSP and they have the most amazing staff. Dr. Mock is very attentive and gives great explanations. He was very patient and honest with me which I really appreciate because my last optometrist felt like a used car salesman. Not Dr. Mock, he is honest and a great conversationalist. Making the pupil dilation less unpleasant. The selection here is vast. I mean it, be prepared to spend a lot of time browsing. Chanel, Tom Fords, Prada, Bulgari, and beyond. They even have a lot of the elite smaller boutique eyewear lines my Mom is a fan of. Having shopped at Broadway Eyeworks with my Mom I decided to stop by a few days before my visit to choose the lenses. That way I could sort through any mixed emotions or possible doubt on the day of my visit. After all I am a Gemini. Jackie was the staff member who very patiently pulled almost every designer eyeglass for me to try out. After getting a feel for what I liked she gave me some great suggestions. Usually I hate stylist suggestions but Jackie clearly listened to the traits of my pickiness because she suggested both the pairs I most fell in love with and ultimately purchased. After we got it down to just 20 pairs she helped me narrow it down and even suggested I take pictures on my phone with my favorites. The pictures and advice successfully convinced me against a pair I was clearly in love with but simply did not suit me. As my good friend Cher Horowitz once said 'don't trust mirrors.' Good looking out Jackie! After my visit I tried on my choices one last time, checked out the ones I really liked again, made sure there wasn't anything new and enticing, committed, got fitted and voila, I was done! Less than a week later Jackie gave me a call. I came in and tried on my two new beautiful pairs of Chanel glasses and here I am a satisfied customer very clearly typing up this review. Walked in today to look for a new pair of sun glasses. And was accused of stealing. Literally in there for minutes. Update: Hey Lawrence this happened 4 days before I posted it I started on the review and didn't finish. You were definitely open. I came in and there were two women working. One behind the desk on the computer and one sitting in the chairs by the displays chatting it up with someone about vacation. The same employee who was talking to someone on the chairs is the person that approached me. I should not have to ask for a owner or a manager YOU should train your employees not to accuse people of stealing because they would rather sit and socialize. read more

While I have been here to see the optometrists who are very good (Dr. Rumsey is great!), this review is more for their optical sales. Broadway Eyeworks is expensive, make no mistake. I have tried going to other places but Broadway Eyeworks does have the best and most extensive selection compared to other places. I have gotten several pairs of glasses here. However this last visit left a bad taste in my mouth. The woman who helped me has been there for a long time and she was extremely pushy. I did not want certain features with my frames but when I told her, she made me feel really bad about it to the extent of making me feel stupid for not wanting some of the "extras". I am not sure if they work on commission but it certainly wasn't the right tactic. I walked away feeling haggled and used. While I ended up with great frames, I did end up spending a lot out of pocket on features I didn't want or need just to get her to stop harassing me. It was clear she wouldn't give up and wouldn't let me have the frames the way I wanted them. Perhaps she should ask if I had budgeted for it - sometimes customers don't have the deep pockets to pay more than what their insurance covers. It might be worth considering when helping new and existing patients. I wish other optometrists in the area carried the large selection that they do so I don't have to come back and be treated this way. read more

If it were a matter of convenience, I would walk halfway down the block and go to Site For Sore Eyes. But after noticing their admirable 2.5 star rating, and verbiage like this being used (and I quote): "Stay as far away from SFSE in Walnut Creek as you can unless you want shitty service and lots of attitude." "The only thing this business has plenty of is ATTITUDE!!" "Stay away from this place they are PUSHY, SNOOTY, RUDE" I decided to stop being lazy and walk a few more blocks, haha. I walked over to Broadway Eye Works and began my journey of finding with perfect pair of glasses with Christine. Christine was extremely helpful, and very intuitive when it came to helping me pick frames I liked/looked good on my face. She sat down and really took her time helping me, answering any questions I had and making sure I had a full array of glasses to try on... even getting me the ones that we both knew were not for me, haha. Hey, I'm there... why not just try them all on? I ended up deciding on the very first pair (out of 150) that I tried on. Did I mention they have an awesome selection?! Hehe. A tortoise shell pair of of Gucci's, and my-oh-my are they are gorgeous! I especially like how this place carries a lot of high end frames. When we finished picking out my frames, I pulled out a pair of never before worn Michael Kors limited edition sunglasses out of my purse. WHY are they never before worn? Because they hurt the bridge of my nose like hell every time I try to wear them. I asked her if she could tell me why they hurt so bad and what I could do about it. She said they were squeezing the bridge too tightly, and that she could try to adjust them for me. 5 minutes worth of heating and reshaping later, I had the best fitting pair of sunglasses I had ever owned. She made them feel like they were custom made for my face!! Sooooo excited to finally be able to wear these after 4 years of owning them! Perfect timing for my Hawaii trip too, where they will definitely be getting some major usage. Best part, she did that for me at no charge! I've never had my eyes properly examined before because I've never needed glasses. Unfortunately, I decided to come here based on my husbands recommendation. The doctor tried explaining the process to me - the key word being tried. What really pissed me off was the fact that he didn't tell me that my eyes would be messed up the rest of the evening after putting in the drops to dilate my eyes. WTF?! I was completely blind after my visit with him and he DID NOT TELL ME that this would happen. What if I drove myself to his office and had no way to get back home except to drive? I felt nauseous and sick! What a bastard! This place sucks. I will never ever come back to this place again. NEVER. Not even to buy glasses. read more

I've been going to Broadway Eye Works for almost three years now with my first visit being at their Stonestown location. What caught my attention was their wide selection of Chanel eyeglasses. I immediately fell in love with a pair of eyeglasses and told my mom; the following day, we went in to see if our health insurance was accepted here and luckily, it was! We set up appointments and just after my first appointment with Dr. Mock, I knew I would make this place my home for any and all my eye needs. Soon after high school, I decided to switch over to their Walnut Creek location, which I enjoy going to even more. There is parking everywhere and the office is located in a small yet quiet plaza in downtown Walnut Creek. Their office, just like the one in Stonestown, looks very appealing and more importantly, is always sanitary. They offer an array of designer eyeglasses and sunglasses including Chanel and Gucci. Another thing I enjoy about this office is how thorough their examinations are. Dr. Mock is great and is sure to explain what he is doing and is always more than happy to answer any questions you may have. They even give you a cute contact lens starting kit on each of your visits to store your contact lenses in during your examination. The receptionists and eyeglass specialists are always very welcoming. They accommodate all your requests and try their best to squeeze you in for a last minute appointment when you're freaking out about your eyes getting irritated, or they did for me at least. I definitely recommend switching from your current eye place to Broadway Eye works. Dr. Mock and his crew will no doubt keep you in good hands! And besides, how many other eye places do you know that carries almost every designer glasses' brands? read more

The optometrist was hot! I was sad when she said come back in two years. Service was good and selection is great. I found the nerdy glasses I wanted for my extremely large head. It's funny my friends who randomly tried on my glasses all say the same thing. " Why is everything in hd"??? I recommend getting all the bells and whistles, anti glare anti scratch, computer protection. Your eyes are an investment, you only have the one pair. Don't cheap out, go to this place. read more

I recommend Broadway Eyeworks without hesitation. I see Dr. Rumsey here. She is professional, experienced, competent and friendly. She explains everything that she is doing. You can't get better than Dr. Rumsey. I have been interacting with Christine at the front desk since being a patient here. Christine also sold me my Lindberg glasses a couple of years ago. She very much knows what she is doing and is organized, competent and friendly. I value her assistance and Broadway Eyeworks is lucky to have her as an employee. I'm sad and disappointed with my experience with this office today, after several years of being a patient. I made the appointment weeks ago in order to be sure to use my VSP benefits before the end of the year. They waited until 20 minutes before they closed yesterday to leave me a message that my policy wasn't showing as active. I had NO IDEA there was a snafu. I was in a meeting and since they close at 4 pm, I couldn't reach them back. My appointment was for today. Nonetheless, I was able to reach my benefits administrator who confirmed that my policy should be active, and sent me an email to confirm it. They said that often, providers will be willing to hold off on submitting the claim to VSP until the patient is showing back up in this system. Well, according to this office, they wouldn't do that and I'd have to pay the $215 exam fee out of pocket and they wouldn't reimburse it to me even after my VSP benefits are showing up again in the system. All I can say is that I'm shocked. I had an issue with my dental insurance a couple of years ago, and even though it took months to get it straightened out, my dentist never demanded payment from me (I would have paid them if they asked, but they didn't). I'm a health care provider in private practice, and sometimes my patients don't get their payment information in before the appointment, but I trust them even when they are new patients, that they will pay me. I recognize how important it is to the patient to receive the service. I'm disappointed because I thought I had a relationship with this practice and in the past have thought they had good customer service. Even though I use VSP, my prescription is complicated and my glasses are usually pretty pricey, so I assume they get a little extra out of that, particularly since they carry high-end products. I guess my business wasn't worth it to them. I won't be going back, because I'm not willing to be treated in a way that I wouldn't treat my own patients. It's a shame. read more

I've been going to Broadway Eyeworks for 10 years now. I've always had great service and been to each doctor. They are gentle and answered all my questions. A few years ago I was squeezed in when I scratched my eye with a mascara wand. I could barely keep my eye open and was scared because I could see a cut on my eye. The doctors calmed me down, took a look, gave me medication to help with the pain and heal my eye. I'm very grateful for fitting me in and not rushing through the appointment. They took their time and I felt as if they really cared about me. I do remember it was hard to see the more stylish frames behind the counter. So it would be nice if a person can go behind and look at them up close instead of having them handed to me one by one. Granted this was at the old location so I'm not sure if the new local is like that. read more

Since moving closer to SF... I avoid going to Walnut Crack at ALL cost! Beeeeelieve. BUT.... before I get all judgey, like any Baptist I know.... Dr. Mock is a nice eye doctor.... He's very straight forward... not pushy, like a horny first date.... the staff is very pleasant. They have a wide selection of glam-frames from Gucci to Oliver Peoples to Dior.... love them all.. but I've got a WIDE-Pancake-Size face which required staff to hitch up her pants and work for a frame to suit my face. She did. In fact, gurrl-friend found dozen of frames ...lux-frames for me to choose from. I'll hit WC every so often.... Dr. Mock is the ever so often. read more

I came in to see Dr Rumsey. She is very patient, thorough and knowledgeable. I've seen her for 15 years now. Although I moved, I still make the drive because of her attention to detail. She also specializes in contact lenses and has recommended the most comfortable lens I've worn to date. I also want to thank Brooke, one of the staff who runs the front of the office, for recently helping me select a great pair of frames. She was very patient with me as I tried on many pairs. She made great recommendations based on size and style I wanted. When I asked if the frame I picked came in other colors, she did quite a bit research to find out and emailed me options in a timely fashion. She was also very careful and patient in adjusting my new frames to fit to my satisfaction. Both Dr Rumsey and Brooke made my experience at Broadway Eyeworks memorable. Dr. Rumsey was nice, the exam was pleasant, she explained things well, and she even gave me a free sample of eyedrops for some dryness issues I've been having. Jackie, the optician who helped me pick out my glasses, was excellent as well. She had a good sense of style and helped me pick out an awesome frame. They seem to strive to help you see the best while looking your best. It is a bit pricey (thank goodness for VSP), but what do you expect for designer frames? read more

"Christine" is a douchebag. I don't usually use that word but this chick is rude, condescending and frankly pretty arrogant for a counter clerk. She promised my glasses would be ready in 7-10 days and it ended up taking almost three weeks. No follow up calls, nothing. I had to call and speak with the owner to see that they had finally arrived. To be fair, the rest of the staff and the doctors here are fine. I rarely visit an eye doctor/optometrist. Only when I feel that I can no longer see and need a new prescription, about every 4 years. I have never been to an eye doctor since moving to California, however the expiration of my contact lens prescription dictated it. I visited the office to see Dr. Mock about a week ago. I went through the usual vision exam, and felt that I could see fine with my current lenses, and the doctor or assistant did not make me feel otherwise during the diagnostic tests. I then went through the usual test, selecting the appropriate power from the different lenses. The doctor then fetched some contact lenses for me to try (a new brand, in the newer higher power), and I could see fine, but preferred my old brand. I was told to return a week later to try the new prescription in my old brand of lens. I have never had to go through this with my old eye doctor back east. She would simply write a new prescription with the new power with my old brand and not require return visits. I returned a week later to try only ONE eye with what I thought was my old brand in the new power. It was blurry, I'm not sure if he fetched the right lens. He then wrote out my prescription, I took a peek, and it looked like a MUCH higher power than I had previously had. I told him I had not ever had that big of a change (and in my mind, i questioned why he was not questioning such a large change in only 2 years). The change could be correct, however my old doctor used to question my prescription change when it was not nearly as substantial of a change. He re-checked the correction, and wrote me a second prescription that is a bit less corrected, but still nearly the same. Overall, I saw the visit as a technicality, however a time-consuming one, and more complicated than needed. In addition, I question the requirement of seeing a doctor for such a session, when he did not notice or question such a substantial change in my prescription. read more
