I've had consistently good experiences with this Target... not good enough to write a glowing review, but never bad enough for a bad review.
Until my experience today.
I approached the check-out, and set my items on the conveyor belt. Half of my items were still in the handbasket, because I needed to make 2 separate transactions. (Reimbursement purposes) I had about 14 items in total.
The cashier, Norah, made no effort to greet me. Okay, fine, she's in a bad mood. In an attempt to maybe lighten her mood, I smiled and said, "Hi, how are you? If you don't mind, these are two transactions." She responded with a lovely scowl, and quickly finished the transaction.
After I swiped my card, I remembered that I had brought my own re-usable bags. I said, "Oh, sorry, I actually brought my own bags." and placed them on the counter.
It would have been simple enough for her to remove said items and place them in my own bag, right? Evidently not.
She sighed loudly and said "You already have another transaction, and there's another guest behind you. I don't have time for this. You can bag them yourself." And then she dumped the bag out onto the counter. Nice.
Rather than make a fuss and risk pissing her off more, I kept quiet and paid for my second transaction. She then shoved my receipts at me and gave me an insincere "Have a good day."
I then bagged my previous transaction and left.
I then went to guest services to speak to a manager. The guest service employee called a manager over. If memory serves, his name was TJ. (Maybe. Possibly. He had long hair in a ponytail.)
I told him the situation, and rather than apologize, he said, "Really? She's not normally like that. She's usually very friendly."
Well, gee, that's great. Too bad I didn't get to see that sparkling personality in person.
I told him that I work in retail, and I get it, sometimes people have bad days, but that it's completely unacceptable for an employee to treat a guest like that, and that I would like some assurance that he would speak to her. He told me that he would, and then apologized for the situation. His apology seemed sincere, but he should have started with that, rather than defend her.
So. That happened today. Left me in a funk for the rest of the day.
The ONLY thing that kept this from being a one-star review were the two other employees I encountered in the store. I didn't get their names, which is a shame, since I would like to recognize them by name for their great service. In the pharmacy area, one of them passed by the aisle I was in, and greeted me and asked me if I needed help finding anything. I didn't, thanked her, and she went on her way. Later, I encountered her again in another aisle, this time with another employee. They were chatting; it seemed as though the other employee was off-duty and doing some shopping of her own. As I entered the aisle, they stopped talking, and the on-duty employee asked me if I needed help finding anything. This time I did, and they both helped me find it. THIS is the kind of service that should happen!
Like I said, I've generally had good experience in this store, so this incident alone isn't enough to keep me from coming back, especially since it's the closest one to my house.
But I'll definitely avoid Norah's line. read more
