The beautiful objects are still there, but the shop appears to be quite understaffed... and whatever staff there is is struggling to keep up. I genuinely felt sorry for them. This is an ACE hardware store coupled with a tasteful, high end and carefully curated and presented homeware selection, including tableware, gardening supplies, greeting cards, candies and candles and one of a kind objects for the home. A $2,400 candelabra, a Smeg toaster, an excellent selection of flatware, tablecloths and glassware... pretty pajamas, $90 votive candles... But what to do if you want to know the price of that set of Wedgewood china, or the Rialto flatware? Prices are missing on so so many objects. And you cannot find a staff member... And you only have so much time before you need to meet mom for lunch. Ah well. Many of us are trying to ween ourselves off of online shopping. Retail stores... this is your moment to recoup some ground.

My husband went to the Westlake location today instead of the 29th Street location because it was more convenient and came home and told me his experience was like mine -- the staff was unavailable and somewhat dismissive. They told him there would be a three hour wait for gift wrap. Another customer got very frustrated with the lack of help checking out. Hopefully corporate reads these reviews and uses it as an opportunity to hire different managers and/or train the staff better at this location. This has been a longstanding problem at this location but is NOT a problem at the other Breed & Company locations.

The store is not organized at all. There is merchandise piled everywhere and anywhere. It's such a mess, and there is only a narrow trail snaking through. The first two times, I came on a Saturday and after not being able to help me the second time, they let me know that the people who are knowledgable about the pillow fabric selections don't work weekends. So the next time, I called and tried to make an appointment with their interior designer to be sure I wouldn't be wasting my time again. The woman I spoke to on the phone said that their interior designer was extremely busy and that she could help me herself if I let her know the day and time I'd be coming in. I described what I was looking for and gave her the name of a particular fabric I'd found online that I wanted to see in person. She said they actually had just gotten two pillows made in that fabric and had them in store. The next day, I headed to the store for my appointment. Upon arrival I was told that the interior designer had just taken BOTH of the pillows I'd asked to look at as well as everything else in the color palette I was looking for to a clients house just 30 minutes earlier. Really? WTF did I make an appointment and take off work early for??? So rude and disrespectful of people's time. I asked if she could show me similar fabrics in the giant room of swatch books and baskets and she basically set one basket of crumpled, disorganized fabric scraps in front of me and then went out to help a couple of walk-ins that had arrived. I rummaged through the basket of fabric scraps and there was nothing that even remotely resembled what I was looking for. At that point, I figured I'd cut my losses and write a yelp review so others don't have to deal with the same frustration. If you're looking for fabric/pillows/upholstery, go to Spruce...they're vastly more knowledgeable, organized, efficient and helpful. Bay Hill Design - I honestly don't know how the store has managed to stay in business. Get it together.

Now, the real star: the gluten-free baked goods. We tried four different things, cookies included, and honestly? I was stunned. The flavor, the softness, the balance, nothing felt like a "gluten-free compromise." It tasted like the real deal, maybe even better. Not overly sweet, not dry, not crumbly, just genuinely delicious pastries that happen to be gluten-free. I don't know what magic they're working in that kitchen, but this is easily the best gluten-free bakery I've come across. A must-visit, no question.

Every piece in the store appears to be intentionally curated. Maaribu melds a home and gift shop with an in house café and bakery, creating an experience that's both relaxing and memorable. According to Mable, my server, Maaribu is a combination of the word Marfa (Texas town that has the Prada store) and Malibu. The brand is often described as combining Marfa's creative spirit, Malibu's laid back lifestyle, and clean Scandinavian design. The shop portion of Maaribu is beautifully styled, featuring furniture, décor, books, and gifts that have a modern flare. All the items are easy to peruse and get drawn in. The use of color is playful and engaging. Maaribu's key highlight is its café and bakery. The in house café has an assortment of coffee, wellness beverages, and dedicated gluten free baked goods. I bought a Rose honey latte, which was divine along with a multi-layer pastry. Mable said customers enjoy the quality and flavor of the pastries...scones, muffins, cookies, brownies, and egg bites are frequent favorites. Importantly, the café is reported to be fully gluten free, which makes it a standout destination for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, without sacrificing taste or variety. The outdoor seating and patio area add to the charm, making Maaribu a great place to enjoy coffee and pastries on a nice Austin morning. After years in Austin, I finally discovered Maaribu--a modern, eclectic coffee shop and store. Every item is thoughtfully curated, blending a home-and-gift shop with a café and bakery for a relaxing experience. The name combines Marfa's creative vibe, Malibu's laid-back style, and Scandinavian design. The shop offers stylish furniture, décor, books, and gifts, all easy to browse and visually engaging. Maaribu's café is fully gluten-free, featuring quality pastries like scones, muffins, cookies, brownies, and egg bites, as well as wellness drinks and coffee. Outdoor seating makes it a perfect spot to enjoy coffee and pastries on a pleasant Austin morning. Wow...Maaribu!!!

But, you're looking for an interior designer, not a best friend (though, I'm sure, she'd make a great one!). We hired her to help us choose new flooring throughout our house, as well as redecorate our living room. Petra was incredibly perceptive, and was able to design our space to really meet our tastes. She made a promise from the very start that her goal was not just to create the environment we wanted, but to make the entire process as stress-free as possible. She (and her wonderful assistant Tess) did just that! From providing multiple options for each item we purchased, to handling all deliveries and returns, to answering my many, many questions along the way, Petra remained always available, always responsive, and always unflappable and professional. On the final styling day when they put on all the finishing touches with accessories (including several of her beautiful art pieces), we came home to everything we had hoped for. If you are redoing one room or a full house, get in touch with Petra and Tess and enjoy the experience!

It definitely leans toward the grotesque which makes for an interesting browsing experience. Creepy dolls, haunted masks, odd surrealist art, a lot of funky religious pieces. In regards to art, the prices seemed to be on the higher end although there is quite a bit of variety (a few hundred here, a few thousand there). I mostly focused on the art but if you're interested in smaller things, I'm sure you can find cheaper items. I did question some of the pricing -- there was a small dinosaur painting for over 3K! We were told it came from a children's museum. Seemed a bit steep nonetheless. I personally prefer to dig around small antique shops and score treasures for a low price. However, this place is just fun to browse. It's like a museum of ugly and interesting objects. If you're looking for a unique date idea, you've found it. Parents -- I wore my baby in a carrier and we had my toddler in a small umbrella stroller. Worked out fine. There's enough room to navigate without little hands grabbing super expensive objects (just keep a close eye, obviously). After our visit, I read some of the older negative reviews (10 years ago) where folks with strollers were kicked out and not allowed in. I guess they realized how much that policy can hurt them. Glad to see them wise up and start to accommodate families.

After standing in line to do the exchange, locating the shade and standing in line again to check out, I wasn't able to use the gift card without a manager keying it in. This seems rather archaic but... whatever. So we paged the manager, waited some more, she keyed it in and it showed $0. The cashier said "that's not possible, I did the exchange myself just a few mins ago?" The manager then proceeds to say it takes 5 mins for funds to load. I point out on the receipt that it was 18 mins ago (lots of waiting in line) and now it "takes 30 mins for gift cards to load". I couldn't stand around another 12 mins hoping it would load as I had already left my family waiting in the car for an eternity. So now I have to go back and do this whole thing again just bc their system is flawed. It's a ridiculous waste of time
