I've been coming to this world market for years for things and I just LOVE it. They have the best teas and wines/alcohol beverages, and you find such fun things here, eg I love their candles and my friends got some really cute dresses here. I also got my favorite terracotta colored Panama hat from here -- it actually wasn't available at this location but was on clearance and they had an option to ship to this location/pick up for no extra charge so that's what I did and had no issues! And because this world market is inside a big outdoor shopping center (sunset valley village), there is always plenty of parking. Wish they had a bigger clothing/accessories section, but that's really my only critique -- otherwise I love this world market! read more

This store never let's me down when i need a specialty item! I've been craving a pistachio crossiant since I've come back from italy. Found something similar online at this store. Ran to over and got 2 containers of the reasonably priced pastries. They weren't crossiants so it didn't satisfy my craving but they are nice little pastries for what they are. They were easy to find in the store because its VERY clean and organized. Its also never been overly busy when ive been in. 6/11/26 shopping for gifts - there was a staff member who followed me & my husband around pretending not to watch me - when I went to check out I was told that I had no coupons or points by the same employee even thought I had one for 15% off - this person was so rude to me along with the facial expressions almost made me put down my $96 worth of merchandise and walk out but I needed the items for gifts - I won't go back - I will miss their products but not this awful employee. read more

Our cashier was a younger kid and Unfortunately we got double charged on an item we only bought one of either by mistake or bc he wasn't paying attention. The whole point of Brick & Mortar stores is so you can go to the location and purchase THAT day if the inventory is available. I found two tables on the floor, and was not able to purchase because they didn't have additional inventory of the tables in the back. What's the point of a B&M? This place is always one of my favorite stops because they just have so many things from everywhere and a lot of options that you don't find it regular places. When you're looking for a nice bottle of wine, champagne or the glasses to put them in plates, snacks, chocolates pillows they really just have a larger variety of unique things that you won't find it any of the other shopping places, highly recommend you hop in here and check it out. Although I've shopped a few times for things here from the flyers, they always wind up being of much poorer quality when I inspect them in person. I ordered an item on line 3 days ago and went to pick up the item. Barbara the manager searched in the back for my order. She could not find it. She was able to find it on the rack and informed me that at the time of purchase this store did not have my item available therefore, it was cancelled. She was able to find the item and gave it to me at the price I paid online. The other two sales ladies who was checking customers was very pleasant as well. I will definitely return to this store. The customer service is awesome and the employees are so kind, professional, and welcoming. read more

I just had several items totalling around $50. I had a 25% coupon that wouldn't go through when scanned. Leigh; the Supervisor, simply refused to honor the coupon nor did she over-ride the system to provide the discount of $12.50... I left the items on the counter and walked out. She never attempted to make it right. A huge failure. I doubt that I will step a foot back in this store. Retail is detail... Leigh is working retail but she missed the detail of making the customer's shopping experience a pleasant one. read more

I had never been to World Market until this past Saturday. My Sister gave me a 50.00 gift card to WM for Christmas and my first question was "what do they sell". After giving me an "are you serious?" look she said something about "what they don't sell" and lost me at "great discount wines". The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the display of Little Boomey wine regularly priced at 6.99 for a large 1.5 liter bottle but on sale at 25% off if you buy a case of 6. I purchased a bottle of the 2005 Shiraz Cabernet blend took it home took 3 sips got back in my car and drove straight back to WM to purchase a case of 6 at 5.24 per bottle! I love my new discovery so much I can't stop thinking or talking about it. I have been drinking very expensive wine the past couple months and this is by far my favorite. I even had my Daddy, who thinks more expensive is better, try it before I told him how much it cost and I still think he does not believe me Besides Little Boomey they have an extensive wine selection spread throughout the store with the actual beer and wine section in the left back corner. They have 3 or 4 isles of Thai, Vietnamese and Italian pasta and sauces and a great selection of spices and chocolate. I looked at the unimpressive Pet section; but, since I had my Pup in the car waiting for me I did not look at any of the home decor or appliances. When I checked out the cashier asked if I wanted to enter my email address so that I could receive their sales and discounts - I already received a "10% off my next visit" coupon and I will definitely be back to use it! read more

Wow, I am constantly surprised by everyone' distaste for chain stores. Whats the deal? I don't see anything wrong with a chain (with the exception of Wal-Mart), they obviously have had a lot of great success, and are trying to sell their product to as many people as possible. Isn't that capitalism? Why are chain stores ridiculed for becoming a chain? I'm not one who LOVES chains, but I certainly don't have anything against them. You prop ably won't see me eating at a Chili's or shopping at Old Navy on a regular basis..... but I am not beyond visiting the location. Most "chains" started out as a mom and pop store...... and if "mom and Pop" stores want to be successful then they must compete with the chains..... just as World Market probably did when they were small. Anyway, Its beyond me......back to my review of World Market: This is the type of place I would pass if I were doing any window shopping. At first glance it looks like the type of place I would hate, but when I ventured inside I was really impressed with their items. The store is great and offers some unique items but the management needs some customer care training. Jess, the manager we had interacted with was the worst manager I have ever dealt with. My 2 year old son found a broken toy in a bin and I inquired if we could get a discount on the broken toy. She never greeted or acknowledged us as customers. Then when the cashier informed her of our request she said, "Oh so they still want to buy it?" Isn't your job to sell the product in the store? So my husband jokingly said, "Well, we couldn't pry it out of my son's hand." And her response was that of someone without compassion. She said, "Oh, you could if you really wanted to." Thankfully my son is too young to pick up on such negativity. We will never shop there again. read more

Main reason I go here is for the sugar free coffee syrups--all sorts of flavors. French Vanilla, Hazelnut, English Toffee, White Chocolate, and more. Yes, I use them (almost) every single day. This is the only place I've seen (not online) such varieties in the sugar free flavors. I'm a fan of dark chocolate, too. I find great dark chocolates here. And totally random ones, too. Also, the food section had many unique and hard to find items and candies for those with curious taste buds like myself. I love this place too. How could anyone hate it? Staff is friendly. And It's like a better Pier 1 with wine and candy! And Seasonal treats! We picked up a nice large rug here with coupons from their rewards program recently. Hey, it's not as nice as the $5000 Persian rugs Costco had a few weeks back, but I can't afford that! I'd be scared as crap to have anyone walk on the thing! The furniture selection is interesting. I always think about buying a small chair but never do. I have always loved World Market. They're my go-to when I need awesome tableware or a specialty pan or just want to dig through some really awesome imported candies and sodas. Their holiday selections have always been top notch. Their furniture is actually quite delightful too. I bought a table and 4 chairs there many years ago and I still just love the heck out of it. However, right this minute, November 5th, they get my huge kudos for their absolutely amazing, fabulous and HUGE Thanksgiving display. Right as you walk into the store there's a whole dining table decked to the elevens (two better than 9) with a warm welcoming table. Behind it are 4 shelves of Thanksgiving awesome. Everything you could ever need to set your table and prepare a feast in the kitchen. And in this horrible day and age where everyone else seems to be just jumping straight to Christmas (usually starting in September), this just warms my heart. (Granted they're not completely stupid, they're getting the Christmas stuff out too, but it's more in the middle-back of the store as of yet. Which is fine. It's usually where I go to get my vintage poster or vintage label calendar. I must have one of these every year in my kitchen. There are so many pro's here, that the con's seem almost dumb, but I had to take away one star because recently I went there at the first of the month and got a great deal on a big tub of pretzels....and this just goes to show that if it looks to good to be true, it is....because I usually stare down for the expiration date on anything but did not because the staff said they just got them, so I just moved along...but they were all expired (every single one and they basically just got a delayed shipment but still-) and of course they promptly refunded my money. I will say their jewelry there is awesome and they had a huge sale on their pearls not too long ago. When Christmas comes to town, I always go there too because their ornaments are to die for! The prices of ornaments range from just a dollar up to ten of course but with good reason!! The ornaments have an international look to them. I absolutely love when they have the wine tastings, usually done on a Saturday, the whole day.....they have a GREAT Sangria that they sample a lot (with a bright yellow label) and you can easily pick up a gift of wine for well under $10. Their candy selection is awesome, too! It is toward the back of the store...they even have this special travel-type food aisle where you can buy the small packages of snacks but that is a great way to not have to commit to something huge.... This store is customer friendly, parking is best when done on the side of the store that is parallel to Brodie, based on when I have parked there, and I have even bought some great hurricane glass plates that were a dollar a piece on their clearance and I always get compliments on them!! This store takes sanitizing very seriously! As I waited on line for a return, I was totally impressed that after each of the two customers that were ahead of me, Nick (the cashier) came out of his station with a spray bottom and rag. He wiped down the counter, the keypad and the plexi-shield after each customer he checked out! This is sign of the exemplary customer service this store provides. Other stores all state their sanitizing policy, including supermarkets. But World Market is the only store I've been at that adheres to the policy. I felt comfortable enough to stroll around the store and and found it to be very neat and clean. Once again at check-out for the items I selected, Nick performed the sanitizing as I waited. And they don't forget good customer service at this time either. I was hesitant about an item I had on which I noticed some scratches. At any other store, the checker would just assume the customer does not want the damaged item and just not ring it up. But Nick took the extra step to summon the manager, Ayden, who approved a small discount for the damage on the item. I say small but this deed was enough to change my mind and I did buy the item. Thanks to Nick and Ayden for their hard work, I enjoyed a very pleasant shopping trip today. read more

I know i know, this is a chain. I should be supporting a local business....but we fell in love with a particular dining table set. It was casual, it has a bench, it extends. We waited for a sale and finally it came. So we bought it. The supervisor there happened to be walking by and he became victim of my firing round of questions. He answered all of them with a smile, without breaking a sweat, and if he didn't know he went to check. Easy peasy. I went to the cash register to pay with my hold slip in hand, and he happened to be the furniture expert. Again I rattled off info and questions in spitfire mode and again, questions answered with a smile. Nothing was a problem. Went to pick up the dining table set by the loading dock and he helped me with my horrendous reversing the car (Asian, woman driver what can I say?) without judgment. He measured the inside of the car and got most of it fit in there except the table top. The supervisor from before peaked in to check on things and both suggested Home Depot for a flat bed truck rental by the hour. They kept the table top (it's huge) until I could figure things out. Called HD and it's $19 for the first 75 min. Hell yeah. Cheaper than getting World Market's 3rd party delivery service and I don't have to beg friends to help me out :) Called WM again, furniture expert answered, remembered me, and was by the loading dock with the table top when we arrived. We didn't have to wait at all. Maybe all you Texans are just super friendly and even chain stores benefit from that. All I have to say is thanks so much for being super helpful and making this experience non-stressful. read more

Buyer beware. Shopped for a desk and chair. Sales associate helped me pick out a chair that matched the height. Sales associate goes and grabs desk a box and brings it to counter for checkout. He asks another sales person to bring it to my car. A few days later I really look at the box and realize that this is in fact a bookshelf, and not a desk, in the box. Called manager. ......wait for it...... I was treated like a total ass. She was so rude! I couldn't find my receipt, of course. Manager tells me that they 1. Won't allow me to return for money back without a receipt, 2. Will only give me a store credit, and 3. THEY DO NOT HAVE ANYMORE DESKS. I waited a year to find the perfect desk and now I'm faced with a not perfect bookcase that I never wanted or needed. I know, I know - it's partially.my fault for letting my guard down and not verifying that this dude was selling me what I was actually there to purchase. After some days of dealing with the incredibly unpleasant manager she sent two employees to my house to make the switch. Dude says "how did you end up with the wrong piece of furniture?!??!" I say "YOU sold it to me". You get one star for the way you handled the situation. read more

A chain in a sea of chains, with tons of shit you'll never, ever need, but man is it cool and a much improved choice over Pier One. This really is the best place in town to get: Wine. I always stock up here before parties. Rivals (and beats HEB, even with HEB's wine deals) Tea. They have selections here you can't get at Central Market or Whole Foods. Chocolate. All kinds, from who knows where, there is so much chocolate here. Soap and candles. Crazy stuff to choose from, to cut down on your stink. Cost Plus World Market may be the worst name for a store, as well as offer the same shit you'll find in any identical mall collection of Old Navy, Linens'N'Things, etc., but I don't hate myself for shopping here. Until I find a better place to buy wine in Austin, World Market will be it. read more

After recently having a meal with one of those friends who has the perfect abode (color coordinated rooms, vases with actual living flowers, no signs of make up or toothpaste in the bathroom), I suddenly found myself inspired to punch up and streamline my own home before guests began filtering in for SXSW. Of course, I also not-so-suddenly found myself out of work as well, which brings up the issue --- how to fabulatize my living space without dipping too much into my carefully budgeted savings? World Market is a pretty safe go-to on that. I was able to completely re-do my guest bathroom (shower curtain, towels, bath mat, candles, hand soaps, and a $.79 plate as a soap dish) for under $50. I also picked up quite a few things for my living room, including throw pillows, curtains, and a rug. And when I realized that the rug wouldn't quite work with the space, the woman working the register was very kind in taking my return with a smile and polite conversation the following day. World Market is an excellent stop when you need SOMETHING special fast and cheap --- whether that's an affordable side table, special snack, or little touch. Besides decorating binds, it's been a great help on last minute presents for birthdays, weddings, and housewarmings. Really, the only problem I've ever had shopping here is that I prefer to shop without a basket (because statistically you buy less if you have to carry it all with you) and the employees are trained to offer baskets to anyone not carrying one (because statistically you buy more if you have a basket/cart/have them hold things at the counter). I have no qualms with people performing their job duties, but sometimes I have to turn down a basket three or more times. It's bothersome, but it wholly my problem and not theirs. read more

You make me sad because I cant buy everything I want when I visit you, because my house in not large enough to fill with your lovely decor and other stuff I really don't need. Today when I went to visit you, I had to practice self control and also had to crack the whip a few times on the offspring. I did discover my beloved white chocolate syrup for coffee that I cant seem to find anywhere. I bought it. I was bad and I don't care. I will drink it everyday and think of you when doing so. I am waffling between three stars and four on this one. I like to round up though because maybe it was just a bad day? The reason I am waffling is because this store is AWESOME. There was literally everything you could ever want in here. Oh, you need tamarind and Belgium sugar pearls? One stop shopping! The problem is that there is little to no organization. It seemed like it was attempting to be organized by country but I found the Belgium sugar pearls in the Asian section. Pricing was also confusing since nothing was where it should have been. Maybe it was stocking day? I have no clue. Pricing is fair and reasonable and I love the candy selection from around the world. Who doesn't want Pocky and Kinder at the same time?
