Braised beef lava eggs & Grilled Pork Jowl
    Venus L.

My husband and I were in the area and wanted to grab a bite to eat before heading home so he chose Tanzie's for something different. Parking is all along the streets and around the neighborhoods with no meters so that's great. They have a small waiting area outside and both outdoor and indoor seating is available. My husband opted for their pork jowl bowl and I got their braised beef bowl. The presentation looked fantastic and the portions were the right size without being too much. The braised beef was a tad overcooked and too chewy, but the pork jowl was great. Overall, Tanzie's is worth a stop if you're in the area and is hungry!

We came here for brunch on Sunday and it was quite busy at 11am with several folks waiting for a table outside. Wait wasn't too bad as the two of us were called back for a seat within 15-20 min. There's not too much nearby so most people stand outside to wait for their turn. The restaurant is relatively small so it can feel a Bit cramped if you're sitting indoors. It can also feel a bit loud in the restaurant if a lot of conversations are happening. The owner (face of the restaurant) clearly works really hard to make everything run smoothly. You can see her helping with cleaning tables and checking in on customers. We enjoyed the food - the eggs were cooked well and food was seasoned well.

I really like this brunch spot! My favorite things off the menu are the lava egg and their grilled pork jowl! I'm still thinking about it right now. The lava egg is definitely worth the add on if you were planning to get one of the other items that does not already come with it. the lava egg was so soft and fluffy and flavorful! The pork jowl was so super flavorful! The chicken and the lean pork sausage had a little kick but also good. The coconut cakes were also such a pleasant surprise because I was not sure what to expect but they were light and so good!! It comes with a variety of toppings including yam, coconut, corn, and green onion. I need to go back soon!!

My stomach and my senses were so happy to have found Tanzie's!! What a delicious discovery!!! The place is cute. They have outdoor seating. The inside is quaint and cozy. I liked the little alcove in the back. Felt like being in someone's house. Service was lovely. Our server was attentive and so pleasant. She asked us if we'd been here before. We hadn't so she explained their menu and told us about their specials. Everything sounded so interesting, we wanted to order them all or wished we had more in our party of 2 so we can share all the dishes. We started with Nam Tao Hu which is a warm mug of lightly sweetened soy milk with seeds and beans. They describe it like a hug from mom, and that's exactly how you would explain how comforting this drink was. We ordered: Grilled Pork Jowl - OMG!! I think I died and went to heaven! First of all, it was plated beautifully!! The egg was perfection! How did they season the scrambled egg to be so flavorful? And the pork jowls? Grilled and cooked so well. This must be a local favorite! Special Dish: Game Hen - This was amazing! The hen was marinated in Thai spices then steamed for a couple hours. The chicken was moist and tender. The jus was flavorful and is then poured over the chicken. I can't stop thinking about it. It didn't come with rice but this would be best served with some rice. I would love to return and try more dishes. This place is a gem!

My 3rd time here and definitely has gotten busy than before the grand opening. Went on a Sunday at 11AM, and there's a little of a wait (~20 mins) for a group of 5. The watermelon juice was really fresh, and the beignets were delicious. I love the brunch options here, the eggs are done so well consistently. Pork jowl is my favorite!

Super unique tasting food. I got the pork jowl and the crispiness and fattiness in the pork is so satisfying. Wish there was more meat though.

What went well: the lava egg and pork jowl are amazingggg. The chicken special was cooked extremely tenderly. The other dishes we got were good as well but those were the standouts. The interior is cozy and cute and Tanzie herself is working and greeting everyone! What could have been improved: I do wish the special came with rice since it's saucy and most of the entrees come with rice (they were clear about this so I wasn't surprised). A friend doesn't love peanuts and the fried rice has peanuts mixed in already. We had to ask the servers a few times for boxes and bags. They gave the same box for all the foods so our saucy dishes soaked through the box.

We came two times in a row because we just loved the food. Lava eggs with anything is so good. The meat with the house sauce is also very delicious.

Chiang Mai regional Thai breakfast/ brunch spot that is really popular in the Berkeley area. Came here with my parents on the weekend and as expected, there was a line. (It'a popular and the restaurant is pretty small). This place has a really cozy vibe because it kind of feels like a converted residential spot. And I'm not an architectural expert, but the windows have a Tudor style feel to them. The owner was here and she was getting people in and out as soon as she could. Everyone there was very friendly and accommodating, especially since my parents are getting a little old. We got a table inside eventually away from the draft coming from the entrance. We ordered the khanom krok to start and we ended ordering a few mains but shared everything family style. We ordered: Gaeng hung le (pork belly) Grilled pork jowl Sai oua (Thai sausage) Each of the dishes were served with a fried egg or 'lava' egg (basically soft scramble). The dishes were beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked. There were plenty of spices, but it wasn't too hot. Just a beautiful spot with delicious food and really friendly service. I'm a huge fan.

Awesome!!!!! Such a cute spot. Decoration was so charming and what made this place even better were their customer service and food! It was a busy lunch time with long line but they handle it very well. Line moved quick and food came out fast too. Precise but concise menu with great presentation. My friends and I tried both of their special and didn't feel regret at all. Will definitely come back

Hot take: I hate brunch. When I was younger, it was an excuse to day drink and engage in debauchery. These days, no thanks to hangxity. The no day drinking aside, it often feels like I'm wasting money on mid, overpriced batched-made brunch fare that's created for content, rather than taste. OFC there are exceptions and one of them: Tanzie's. From Kin Khao (one Michelin star) alums, Tanzie's serves Chiang Mai-inspired Thai brunch crafted with locally sourced ingredients and scratch-made dishes. And, every detail is intentional, including the airy parklet with chiffon curtains and hanging plants to the thoughtfully stocked restroom, complete with 2-ply toilet paper, hand lotion, and feminine products (I know, TMI). Walk-in's only, no rezzies. Arrived 10 minutes before 8:30 am opening and was first in line. By 9:15 am, it was crowded with a wait. New prix-fixe brunch coming soon; rezzies will be accepted on Tock. F O O D * Khanom Krok: Coconut Cakes w/ yam, sweet corn and green onion ($14): https://tinyurl.com/ywbnr2vw A traditional Thai street food, the coconut cakes are freshly made and served hot with a crispy outer layer and a soft, creamy, and slightly sweet center. Think flan but not as sweet. While served as an app, I would request this as a dessert. * Moo Yang: Grilled Pork Jowl w/ local honey, crispy garlic, lava egg, brown rice ($22): https://tinyurl.com/3aw3udba The pork jowl's crispy edges were a satisfying contrast to the tender, fatty interior. A drizzle of honey added a natural sweetness that elevated the flavors. Tanzie's take on the lava egg is reminiscent of Japanese and Korean tornado eggs--fluffy, soft, and custardy. Paired with perfectly cooked brown rice, it was bomb. * Seasonal Special: Dungeness Crab w/ lava egg, white rice, nam jim talay ($40): https://tinyurl.com/4jdxhruf Simple dish done right, light and fluffy rice with distinct grains topped with the soft custardy lava egg and crowned with fresh chunks of sweet crab. The nam jim talay elevated the dish, adding a bold, sweet-sour herbaceous umami with a kiss of heat. S E R V I C E Exceptional Thai hospitality. Our server, Boom was so kind, gracious, and thoughtful...offering water to my dogs on several occasions. Each table receives a carafe of water - thank you! Positive vibes and smiles all around from other staff. Prompt food service. A M B I A B C E Cozy cottage with a small indoor dining area and a private room. There's three sidewalk tables (mostly shaded) and five tables in the parklet. Overall, Tanzie's is one of the more remarkable brunches I've had in the bay. It's clear that care goes into every dish, from thoughtfully sourced ingredients to skilled techniques and attention to detail. I get the hype and accolades.

Came here on a Sunday at around 11:30 and there was a 1 hour wait for 4 people. There is both indoor and outdoor seating with covering available. The indoor seating is limited and cozy. After we were seated the owner explained the menu to us which was helpful and gave us ideas for those with dietary restrictions. We put our order in, I decided to go with their warm milk drink and vegetarian lava eggs. The milk drink came out after a few minutes and was so warm and comforting. The food took about 30 minutes and by then we were starving. Definitely did appreciate that all food is made fresh. The flavors were delicious and the eggs had a creamy texture. We would come back but during off peak times!

Both are great, but I like Poke Bar more as I feel you get more protein and food for the price, super fresh fish (cut smaller than Wow, but feels like I am getting more, plus I have the option of asking for tofu as an option!). I love all of the add-ins (fried garlic goes great with fish and is so good without being too overpowering, far less overpowering than fried onions), the sauces are great, I like being able to have brown rice without being charged extra (ahem, Wow Lemonade ;) ), the seaweed salad is delicious and the food was so good that right after I took the first bite I made an audible sound and rolled my eyes it was so good. I had to be chill about it, but dang, Poke Bar rocks! I also like that it is a tiny bit more affordable, and you get more food for the price. So much food that I wasn't able to finish my medium-sized bowl. Only detractor is that I wish their krab was krab salad and not just krab. And I wish that as far as two sides go, that I could get two sides of krab and just mix in one of their sauces and some wasabi and make my own krab salad. Only negative about the place is that they don't offer bags with handles, just regular brown smaller grocery bags. So, if they stepped it up a notch and had branded bags I think that would help to promote their business more since they are located in a somewhat out-of-the-way spot. Definitely come and check this place out. Super fast service, okay seating, great, great, GREAT fresh fish, and such an umami flavor. Tip: get a mix of white and brown rice to make it a tad bit healthier and get some more fiber (if you don't want to go fully salad style and get greens. Or be wild and get all three options as the base!).

Though the exterior of…read morethe restaraunt is unassuming, and the building itself is quite small with limited seating, the interior is still very clean and neat, and the workers are very nice. I placed an online order for the C Chicken Momos and the Garlic Cheese Naan, which were both phenomenal. The naan was some of the best I've ever had. It was so fluffy, thick, and pillowy soft, and was not overly charred/thin or too crispy like other naan. Just pure doughy goodness. There was also a perfect amount of cheese filling--enough that you got the subtle kick of milky acidity, but not too overpowering. The naan itself was also not too greasy, and the garlic flavor was very aromatic. You could also taste a hint of the slight tartness from (I'm assuming) the yogurt used to make the naan. The "C" Chicken Momos came with eight large pieces, which is definitely enough to fill you up. The sauce tasted like a classic sweet-and-sour sauce with a very mild and pleasant spice. Also, because the dumplings were fried, they were crispy despite being covered in sauce, but still had a bit of the nice chew you would get from a steamed momo skin. The fillings themselves were also super flavorful: you get a herbal and fresh taste from the ginger, which balanced the tanginess of the sauce so the meal did not feel too heavy, and the subtle nuttiness and pepperiness of cumin in each bite. The dumplings also had some warm broth in them, which is perfect for a cold day. The prices are fair too. You can often find small discounts on Snackpass or delivery apps like GrubHub. Needless to say, I will definitely be coming back. Totally recommend!
