Excellent place for a delicious thai-inspired brunch! I would 100% come back again to try more menu items! I came here on a Saturday morning and expected it to be packed! To my dismay, we only waited around 15 minutes for a table (we actually got seated bar side window - which is why it might have been faster). As a note, this place does not have it's on lot and you will need to rely on street parking! Inside the restaurant was very nice and homey, the customer service matched with their friendly staff who checked up on us frequently. Here is what we ordered and my thoughts: * Jasmine Thai Chia Seed Bowl: I really enjoyed this! It was light, healthy, and I loved the ratio between fresh fruit, and the chia itself. It's a nice, refreshing, sweet breakfast item. * Yum Sum salad: This was a perfect complement to the pork jowl we ordered. I love the pops of citrus and the fresh herbs. Got to try this spot for brunch, and we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes before being seated. Since it was our first time, the staff was super helpful and informative about the menu. I ordered the Sai Oua lava egg plate, pork jowl on the side, and khanom krok. First of all, holy hell, that egg was SO soft and yummy. I loved how it was prepared--the texture was amazing, and it was seasoned to perfection with such a savory flavor. The sausage was good, but the pork jowl was where the meal really shined. Next time, I'd definitely get the grilled pork jowl lava egg plate instead. I can be pretty picky with pork, but this one melted in my mouth and had so much flavor. The khanom krok was beautiful and a great dish to order if you have friends to share it with. For me, one bite was more than enough as a sweet little dessert at the end of the meal. It's very cozy breakfast restaurant with warm welcome when you are step in. Tanzie's is offering Thai northern style food, we order Ka-noom Kork for sharing and main dish we go Sai-ou and scallops egg with full flavor dipping sauce. I very enjoy my soy milk with Thai beignets, it very good combination when the weather is cold outside. The service is top notch, they take time to introduce the menu and always come check up on the food. I definitely have to come back for Gaeng Hang le because it's available after 11 am. Very cute place and very popular for brunch! Had to wait on a Saturday morning for brunch at 10 AM. I frequented Tanzie's since they first opened and have always been a fan of the green Thai tea as well as the pork rice bowls. Service is also friendly and very fast. During my last visit, I had the Jasmine tea chia bowl, which was beautifully presented. My wife and I had the wonderful opportunity to visit this Northern Thai restaurant for brunch today. From the moment you walk in, your are greeted with a warm welcome and a smile. This spot is quaint, but just the way it should be. Very intimate. The atmosphere is comfy and not crowded. Oh.. they even have an outside seating area. The inside is nicely decorated indeed. We were seated immediately and our server wasted no time in accomodating is with water and limes. They offer still, tap and sparking water. They even have limes for your water, upon request. Every server that came to us, was so nice. They ensured to all is if we had any allergies more than once. I love that because they really care about the health of their customers and the experience they have while in their restaurant. Such a lovely ambiance. Great food suggestions by the servers. I had the organic chicken entree and my wife had the beef shank entree. I ordered the Iced strawberry matcha and my wife had the peach one. We both agree that the peach one was THE best. Although the strawberry one was a definite runner up. For appetizers, we had the beinget and I forget the name of it m. But it had grapefruit and blood oranges in it (Def a bit too spicy for my palate). Our food came out hot, plated well and delicious. We throughly enjoyed our food as we tried one another's. This is the second time I've been here, and there's always a wait. This time my party of 2 arrived at 1:40 pm on a Friday and had a 15-20 minute wait estimate, which proved out. We were seated inside the restaurant facing the window to the street, which meant it was a bit hot because the sun was shining in. I got the scallop special, which had Hokkaido scallop with fried garlic crisps, white rice, and their signature lava egg. Those first few bites were amazing because the scallop and egg were so fluffy. The scallops were flavorful, and the crispy garlic added crunchy texture to balance out the dish. However, the rice was less fluffy in the middle, and another area of improvement were the garlic skins, which weren't crispy enough to bite through. Most, if not all, were tough to bite through and unpleasant to eat. During the meal, there was a bug that flew at us a couple of times, which was a little annoying, but not the worst. I'm not sure if this was because we were close to the door. Overall, I love that they use all reusable foodware (even the napkins!), and the food is great, especially the lava egg. As such, I understand why so many people come. However, given how busy they are, I recommend coming during off times to minimize your wait. Yummy Northern Thai brunch spot with friendly staff. The brunch is waitlist only no reservations so expect a wait on weekends. Thankfully, they take your phone number and text you when the table is almost ready so you have about 5 min to get back. Parking wise, I was able to find a street parking spot within walking distance fairly easily. The food was yummy and it's perfect to eat at on a sunny day outside. The inside is also super cute and looks like a little cottage. I find that most Thai Iced teas are super syrup-y and too sweet but this one tasted fresh and refreshing. The restaurant space is quite small so I wouldn't recommend coming with a very large group. Also with their popularity, be prepared to wait (to be seated and for food)! I went not long after them being written about in sf chronicle, so there's a chance they were inundated and weren't prepared to handle that many guests, but we waited quite a long time to be served (like 40 or so minutes after ordering). Hopefully they're much more used to it now and the service is faster! Food wise everything is fresh and delicious. Their lava eggs are top notch but it is on a huge pile of plain white rice. I think I would prefer a little more flavor in the rice. My favorite was definitely the khanom krok, they were such yummy little bites. They try so hard to make everything look fancy, but the quality doesn't match the presentation or the price. It feels like the food is made more for Instagram than for people to actually enjoy. The space is also very small and cramped. The tables are so close together that people are constantly bumping into each other, and you can hear everyone's conversations. We could even hear the people next to us complaining about their food too. On top of that, they automatically add 20% gratuity for just two people. Really a masterclass...in extremely mediocre food. The hype and praise behind this place makes me feel like it's an inside joke that I'm not privy to. Like are we really putting this place on any so-called "reputable" publication's top 10 list just for having tornado scrambled eggs? In all seriousness, if you couldn't tell, our meal at Tanzie's was pretty underwhelming. For our mains, we had their grilled pork jowl, jin nung nam prik kha, and a sizzling skillet. All of which fell completely short for our entire group. The dishes were either too dry, too salty, or just flat out lacked flavor. They don't seem like terribly complex dishes, so not really sure where the poor execution is coming from. The dissatisfaction extended to their makrut strawberry matcha and Thai beignets. The makrut matcha seemed like an afterthought, tasting like other run-of-the-mill strawberry matcha and the beignets were no different than a Chinese donut or youtiao, except a lot more expensive. What I will say is that you can tell they poured a lot of effort into the design and theme of their interior. I ordered the garlic pork jowl and I'm still thinking about it. I'm not even an egg person--I usually end up giving my eggs to whoever I'm with--but this one was delicious! It was so light and creamy, it didn't tase "eggy". I also got the jasmine chia bowl. It's very pretty and also tastes good. But the stand out was definitely the garlic pork jowl. Parking isn't the best here but it's not terrible. It's located at the corner of a neighborhood with street parking so you may just need to park farther away. We came to Tanzie's around 11 AM on a Sunday and waited about 30 minutes to be seated. Our party of six was seated in the community room on the right. For drinks, we ordered the strawberry makrut matcha, orange matcha, and jasmine thai tea. I wouldn't recommend any of them since the drink had more than 50% ice and were all very watered down. As for the food, we tried the lava eggs + grilled pork jowl and the jasmine thai tea acai bowl. I wouldn't recommend the acai bowl. The fruit was sour, and the overall flavor wasn't what I expected. A delicious brunch in a cute and cozy space! The owner Tanzie brings flavors from Chiang Mai into their vibrant menu of Thai specialties, rice dishes, and more. My friend and I started with the jasmine thai tea chia bowl which is topped with so many delicious tropical fruits, granola, coconut shreds, and a strawberry syrup. The chia pudding itself is made with green thai tea and very jasmine floral-forward. The lava egg is an absolute must get. This scrambled egg is on a whole other level. It's perfectly jammy and buttery that will make you want it in each bite. I opted for the grilled pork jowl, which I've never seen outside of a kbbq menu, let alone a brunch menu. It's similar pork belly but not as fatty and chewy. It's also tossed in crispy fried garlic! This dish is now in my list of greatest brunch meals of all time. Tldr: Overall good flavor profile but some room for improvement for the price point We ordered the soy milk, fresh squeezed blood orange juice ($7), khanom krok (coconut cakes; $14), thai beignets ($8), and the grilled pork jowl ($22). The soy milk was nice and warm (it had some toppings that I'm probably not culturally involved enough to enjoy) and the blood orange juice did feel really fresh. Khanom krok was super interesting and enjoyable but we wished each of the toppings added a little more than they currently did as other than the chive one the toppings sort of had a subtle effect on flavor and seemed like they were mostly there for texture. They sort of reminded me of a coconutty version of this pastry in Korea they sell on the street called "deli manju." The thai beignets are fried dough that you dip in condensed milk. They're better hot so I sort of wish they were listed under dessert so they can come out at the end of the meal. Lastly, the grilled pork jowl seemed slightly overcooked as there were parts of the meat that were sort of burnt. Additionally, the garlic chips, while they looked nice and golden, also had a slightly burnt bitter taste to them as well. There were also some wilty cilantro on top. The egg was nice and fluffy so it felt like when done right this would be a good filling brunch dish. It's a pretty small spot and fills up quick. My first time at Tanzie's. Honestly, not on my todo list but we were visiting our son and he wanted to take us here. Not too far from his house and street parking was a snap. We walked in to this small shop and could immediately see how popular they are. We (3 of us) got the last table. After being seated our very delightful waitress brought us water and menus. Luckily, our son was able to explain all the dishes listed. After making a few decisions my wife and I wound up with: Appetizer: Coconut cakes to start our meal. These looked like deviled eggs but that changes real fast one you eat them. A delicious array of flavors Lunch: My wife had the Pork Jowl and really enjoyed her lunch. Fresh and tasty.
