    Migas Norteñas
    Makayla J.

The food here was so mid, but I was really looking forward to trying this spot. The customer service was exceptional. I was expecting bolder flavors, and while the food was not bland (besides the eggs) they could've developed the flavors and added more birria meat to the Migas norteñas. The chipotle bacon I'm not sure if I missed the crispy part of the name, but it could be crispy without being overcooked and burnt which it was.

Great food, ambiance, and service. I came here in a group of 5 and everybody loved their food and drinks. They don't allow a mix and match taco plate but we did that amongst our table (each ordering a separate and trading) and everyone enjoyed trying more taco types. I got their veggie fajitas which were great and I traded the flour tortillas for their blue corn ones to make it GF and it was delicious. Often fajitas are a 2 person meal but I wouldn't say that's true for theirs (at least for the veggie) more like 1 and a snack leftover meal. The interior is well decorated and has a really fun and upscale vibe.

Stopped on for a work lunch today, but think I'd only go back if someone else is paying or it's happy hour. The food was fine, but nothing outstanding. Everything tasted like it should but I was expecting bigger, bolder flavors. The appetizers came out quickly and had these cute serving pigs, but their feet were "well used" and kept flopping over. The homemade flour tortillas were nice. I had Tampiqueña was a good tasting but $32 seemed steep priced. The queso and pork belly guacamole are worth getting but ask for some extra chips. The venue is probably the highlight as it's well decorated and feels trendy.

I was excited to dine here, and it did not disappoint! I love a restaurant that literally has so many yummy sounding options it's tough to choose...so you put it in the hands of your server (Stevie). My only request was light and flavorful. It was all so good! The Ancho Chile Margarita, Snapper Ceviche, Chile Relleno, and Empanadas de Plantano...all perfection!

    Bottomless brunch
    Bonni R.

My besties treated me to the bottomless brunch at Tamayo to continue my birthday weekend celebration. The decor is absolutely beautiful and the staff is attentive and efficient. Our server, Stevie, was friendly and made sure we had everything we wanted very quickly. All of the food was very good and we definitely had our favorites. The ceviche was a little mushy and Stevie let the kitchen know about that. Also, the chicken in the pozole was too tough to chew. But the enchiladas were all excellent. It was great being able to just have more of anything we wanted brought right to our table. They also offer bottomless cocktails with brunch but we opted not to include that. It was really nice that Stevie had a sparkler and "happy birthday" on the plate for our churros and the manager stopped by a couple of times to make sure we were happy. They do have a patio area and by the time we left it was full - just like inside. I definitely recommend having a reservation. I can't wait to go back and try more of the dishes at Tamayo.

Special - margarita with ticket stub from Buell

Still my favorite in Larimer Square. 25 years and going strong. Something new, a "free" Margarita with your ticket stub from the Buell. Still loving my Camarones al Chipotle! Great service.

Tamayo makes a very strong case for fajitas being the perfect dish. They arrive sizzling, announcing themselves before you even see them. Ribeye, peppers, onions, tortillas, sour cream, guacamole, salsa. Everything you need, nothing you don't. You build each bite exactly how you want it, which honestly feels like self care. Chef Richard Sandoval and his team do this exceptionally well. The ribeye was cooked beautifully, full of flavor, and the accompaniments were fresh and generous. This is fajita excellence. What really surprised me was their mocktail program. We skipped alcohol entirely and didn't feel like we were missing anything. The drinks were thoughtful, balanced, and actually interesting. I left full, happy, and felt great the next morning, which feels very on brand for my 2026 goals. Do yourself a favor and order the ribeye fajitas. Get dessert too. Growth is about balance.

Absolutely loved my experience here! The decor is stunning--the perfect mix of chic and cozy, making it an ideal spot for a date night or a night out. The food was just as impressive, every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. To top it off, the cocktail menu is creative and the drinks were perfectly balanced. Exceptional service and a great vibe all around. I'll definitely be back! Shrimp and crab enchiladas was the best thing !!!!

    Al Pastor Tacos
    Barbara S.

I thought this place was great! I tried their al pastor tacos, and they did not disappoint. The salsa and lime really helped add that extra flavor I look for in a good taco. Everything tasted fresh and well-balanced. The service was also pretty good and added to the overall positive experience. My friend ordered the chile relleno dish and ceviche and could not stop raving about how delicious all the food was. I didn't try it myself, but honestly, thinking back, I'm kind of regretting not stealing a couple of bites. We came to celebrate a birthday, so of course we had to get churros for dessert, and they were so yummy. Overall, this was a great spot for a fun celebration or a casual night out, and I'd definitely come back to try more items on the menu. I heard their brunch is great!

    Queso Fundido**
    Stephanie K.

The spicy margs were good but could use some more heat. They were more just margs. The queso was absolutely delicious and they give you a ton of cheese and meat. The veggie fajitas were good as well. Nothing too special. Service was kind. It is definitely worth a trip.

    Shrimp Dish was good

This place had high expectations based on the reviews, and sadly, it didn't deliver consistently. Some dishes were amazing AF and some were day-of-the-dead lifeless and needed moisture and flavor. First, the positives.... Cocktails were amazing! That sour made with Mezcal and chili oil was soooooooo good! Wow, I could have had more of those for sure. The margarita was good too, but I went back to that smoky sour! Some had cucumbers and some didn't though... odd and a sign that someone different probably made these, so your milage may vary. The queso fundido or skillet queso or whatever that thing is called was one of the best ones ever! Wow, so good with the tortillas (you can tell they make them fresh). If I went for drinks and appetizers (and tortillas), this place would have been 5 stars! The dinners are where things fell short. My shrimp dish was good but after taking off the heads, it was basically 4 not-too-big shrimp over rice. Luckily, we had lots of appetizers so I wasn't overly hungry by the time the meal arrived. I tried some of the other dishes and the chicken was dry AF and had no flavor. The steak dish was good but some was cooked to a perfect medium rare and some was over done. I'd expect better for the price, but I'd go back just for queso and drinks!

We had a solid dining experience at Tamayo. For a downtown restaurant, parking wasn't bad at all. We found a paid lot just across the street. We started off with chips and guac. My husband normally does not like guac but he said he liked this one. For entrees, I got the carne asada fajitas and my husband got the Tampiqueña. I really enjoyed my fajitas. There was a decent portion and I had enough meat and peppers for leftovers. The Tampiqueña was a bit more on the well done side but the black beans and enchilada were good. We also got the red snapper ceviche. It was yummy and not fishy tasting at all. The only thing I could say is that it came in a bowl in a bed of crushed ice that made the fish almost too cold. We were not too wow'ed by the drinks. I got the passion fruit agua fresca and I perhaps was thinking of a more sweeter drink but this was quite tart. My husband got a margarita and special cocktail but was not too impressed. All in all, they have a decent menu size and we will be back to try more of it.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a last minute place to get a nicer dinner on our trip. We were planning on going somewhere else, but then we walked by Tamayo, which was packed, so we decided to go there instead. I'm glad we did because the food was both yummy and filling. To start, we got a margarita. I got strawberry and my boyfriend got blood orange. We both liked ours, but they were strong! For an appetizer, we got the queso fundido, which is essentially melted cheese with tortillas. Pretty much you're making your own quesadillas! It was really yummy. For our meal, our waitress suggested that since we both wanted to steak fajitas, that we just get one meal but with double meat and veggies for one. This was a great suggestion because not only was it less expensive, but it was plenty of food! We were absolutely stuffed after all this food. I would have rated this place five stars, but I took off one for service. It was very slow, and we had to wait quite a while for our food. I'm wondering if it was because there was a large group there from a conference. Regardless, I feel that the service took too long. Overall, would definitely come again!

We ordered the guacamole, burrita de frijoles puercos, scallops, hamachi tostada, tuna ceviche, chilaquiles de borrego, enmolada de pato, and pancita pibil, and genuinely everything was a 10/10. The scallops and ceviche completely stole the show. The scallops were perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth, and the serrano ponzu with the tomato butter added this incredible balance of brightness and richness. The ceviche was one of those dishes where every bite makes you stop for a second to reflect. They used super fresh tuna with the charred avocado and coconut broth giving it so much depth while still feeling really light and refreshing. The hamachi tostada was another standout with the habanero mayo and orange bringing the perfect amount of citrus and heat, and the pancita pibil was unbelievably flavorful. The black bean purée underneath honestly deserves its own mention because it tied the entire dish together being so smooth and rich against the acidity of the pickled onions. Service was also flawless from start to finish. Attentive without hovering, great pacing between dishes, and everyone made the experience feel warm and welcoming despite every table being filled. This place fully lives up to the hype and is absolutely worth planning ahead for.

I also really like the menu, however, I really don't like it when restaurants charge for chips and salsa. We got the trio (salsa, guac, & queso) so it felt worth it. They have a small brunch menu on Sundays but also have their full menu. I had huevos rancheros the only thing I didn't like was that the eggs were very over/under easy & the whole dish got cold fast. I wish it was served on a hot plate or the eggs were cooked longer so they were warmer. Service was ok, we ate at the bar so I think the focus was more on having our drinks filled vs asking how the food was etc. And it got busy after we arrived so the bartender was busy. The house margaritas were great! We'll definitely come back for happy hour & to try other things on the menu.
