I don't know what the typical norm at this restaurant on Wednesdays is. It sure looked like the best time to visit it for a quick bite to eat. Although some tables were occupied, the restaurant was far from busy. After the receptionist sat us in/at one of the spacious booths, our waitstaff immediately came to us to greet us. Our super attentive waitstaff, Gladys helped us with our needs throughout our quick 1-hour dinner. Thanks, Gladys; your warm smile was sure evidence that we were valued as guests. What we got tonight were: -Spicy Mango Ceviche ($17) -Bean and Cheese Burrito ($9) -Crispy Sweet Potato Tacos ($16) -Brown Sugar Caramel Flan ($9) for to-go If I go ahead and rank them from the best to the least good (LOL) here it is: 1. Crispy Sweet Potato Tacos - Simply exquisite. Vegetarian (possibly vegan) dish which you don't have to compromise your satisfaction or craving. Not only what's inside the tortilla but the tortilla itself was also amazing. It's a corn kind. We have never tasted anything like this before. 2. Spicy Mango Ceviche - Good portion for the price. The spiciness is noticeable but anybody can handle this level of heat. A visible amount of shrimp was evident in it. The mango pieces were diced a bit smaller than what I would want to see and taste but all in all, this is a solid dish as well. 3. Brown Sugar Caramel Flan - I took a bite of it later when we were home. Candidly stating, it wasn't as great as I hoped would be as it somewhat lacked that typical flan flavors. It also wasn't dense enough. It was passable with adequacy and acceptableness is the best way to describe it. 4. Bean and Cheese Burrito - Was my least favorite dish for the night and yet, this too, wasn't a bad dish. If you are vegetarian, then this definitely is one of the safest bets you can choose from the menu. If I am to order this again, however,I will ask for a little modification: add cilantro rice to it. I am pretty sure this should easily be done at a place like Blanco; I have no doubt. The restaurant is spacious in both the main dining area and the bar. The bar was empty except for one solo guest that sat in the center of it. We walked in and were asked if we had a reservation by a less than enthusiastic hostess. We did not have a reservation but were seated immediately because it was a Thursday night and the restaurant was half empty. The decor was great, plants hanging from the ceiling and a cozy setting. The waitress was so slow and unorganized and I don't think she could have been friendly because she seemed so lost all night. The food came out and was pretty good, but barely warm. Overall not a horrible experience but probably not anywhere I'd bother going again. read more

I dreamt of queso. I stopped by for a small party in the bar and decided to get some nachos to go. I was surprised when I got home and there was no queso with the chips. The nachos weren't the same, unfortunately, and while they held up great to a 15-20 min drive in their container, the nachos weren't the same as I was used to without the queso. I will be back as Blanco remains my favorite spot for nachos in Denver. And queso will flow. read more

This is a companion company with culinary dropout, the vibe is definitely more laid back, there are loads of drink options lots of tequilas. The food is prepared in view of the dining room, there is a huge bar at one end with plenty of seating. It was a delicious dish of mixed grill fajitas. And all the accompanying extras, we enjoyed them. We then each selected a dessert and they were very very sweet and perfectly presented. Have been to Blanco several times but most recently went over the holidays and wow! They had some of the most over the top (in a good way) holiday decor I saw all season. Beautiful restaurant, similar vibes to Culinary Dropout next door! My friend and I came on a Tuesday for their all day happy hour and to celebrate her birthday! I enjoyed my chicken tortilla soup (chicken was really good) and my birria taco. That being said, the happy hour prices are still decently expensive at $7 a taco. The tacos are pretty filling though and I was full with 1 taco and the soup! My only note on the birria taco is the tortilla/outside is pretty thick, unlike other birria tacos I've had. My first visit here. Had the mahi tacos with black beans and rice and they were excellent and portion size was more than adequate. They serve a nice variety of mixed drinks and beers. Really mellow dinner spot with great drinks and surprisingly great salsa. Whenever I grab Mexican food, I always expect subpar salsa but theirs is amazing! The person I was with also ordered queso but I couldn't stop eating the salsa which says a lot. I also got a chicken bowl and instead of beans I was able to get fajita peppers. It was yummy but what blew my socks off were the very fresh corn tortillas. I have never had a more fresh corn tortilla like that IN MY LIFE. Came here for a drink before a movie next-door and felt it was a great vibe. We sat at the bar on a Friday night and had no problem getting a spot. The bartender was nice, easy to get his attention and he made the drinks quickly, which was great since we were in a bit of a rush to make our movie showing. I got the papi's piña colada which was sweet and delicious, the toasted coconut shavings are really adding a depth of texture and the float on top giving it a sweet area finish. Much more elevated than your standard piña colada, except not frozen. My boyfriend had the frozen mango. Margarita, he would have wanted it to be a bit more spicy and less sweet, like the regular mango margarita, but it was still delicious nonetheless. The prices were not too crazy, and the place itself was cute. The seating at the bar was comfortable, which often is one of my biggest qualms with stools, so I will definitely come back again the next time I'm in the area and have some time to kill. read more

The queso had the texture we all crave and love, and with the surrounding accoutrements we were devouring it faster than a race car at the Indy 500. TIGER SHRIMP FAJITAS ($23) -- Spicy Garlic Butter, Served with Caramelized Peppers & Onions, Elote, Guacamole, Pico De Gallo & Queso Blanco. Choice of Black or Charro Beans. I can't tell you the last time I ordered fajitas, but I'm really glad I ordered these. The amount of food alone was worth the price of admission. The shrimp were plump and juicy and had a great snap. My friend and I came here for dinner. It's a nice restaurant with a lot of spacious seating. Although there was a mixup with our reservation, so we actually got seated about 20 minutes after. The front person seemed stressed. Anyways, we finally got seated and we got some chips and salsa. The salsa was actually thicker than most restaurants and it was really tasty. I also got the strawberry mandarin Agua Fresca and you can definitely taste the mandarin. I got the chicken fajitas for dinner and my friend. Let me taste her chicken burrito bowl. This was our first stop after arriving in town. This restaurant came highly recommend by my friend and we weren't disappointed! We were able to sit ourselves at one of the bar high tops. The service was spectacular. Bella checked on us repeat my while also making drinks at the bar. She didn't even write our order down and it still came out fast and correct. You could tell she's been doing this awhile. The ambiance doesn't feel like Mexican food. It feels more like coffee shop. Tons of plants and wooden dirt jute used. Open to natural light. After having a so so experience next door, we gave Blanco Cocina a chance and ay yi yi, what a great meal! The chips and salsa were on point and for you other spice girls and boys out there, their salsa is spicy!! I got a dewy fave after a few bites, that's what I'm talking about! The have the standard Mexican fare, elevated but not pretentious. I got the fish tacos and they were excellent in flavor and size, a lot higher than I thought they were gonna be which is nice in this day and age with prices going up and portions going down. We ended on the tres leches cake and dare I say, we were too full to finish it. But it was perfection as well! Blanco Cocina + Cantina is a decent spot to grab food and enjoy the neighborhood! The overall decor for this place is really well done. Love the high ceilings and the faux plants! I enjoy that the kitchen is also see thru separated by glass. Our waiter was really nice and very attentive. I loved the free chips and salsa he greeted us with and the fact he refilled it when he saw they were getting low. The table next to us got some really cute looking cocktails, and they really seemed to enjoy them! I got two tacos- mahi mahi and shrimp with rice and beans. My biggest criticism was definitely the rice - I think they coat it in butter which threw the taste off for me. The beans were solid black beans nothing special but good. If I were to go again I would only get Shrimp taco a la carte or maybe the ones my hubby got. My hubby got three tacos a la carte - carnitas and short rib. He said he loved all of them! The decor and ambiance is second to none. Tried their macacha short rib tacos during the Yelp (hop sock) event a few weeks ago. We tried their tacos and I was so happy they made their corn tortillas in house. This made me want to try their food and we got a free guacamole for attending the event. This experience was terrible to say the least. Our server was rude and completely dismissive didn't even bring us silverware after us ordering the guacamole. They had 3 times to bring us silverware and we had to ask for it. Ordered the taco plate - short rib and chicken Al pastor. My partner got the mahi and short rib taco. The portions were incredibly inconsistent. Mine barely had a serving portion while my partner had double the meat. Mind you there was NOBODY in the place on Sunday afternoon. I was incredibly disappointed after having a great experience at the Yelp elite event. I normally never eat at elevated Mexican places because of this very situation. As someone who has family who owns restaurants consistency is always first and foremost. Idk how they go about plating their food but it's incredibly disheartening to know their chef or kitchen doesn't double check their food before it goes out. Truly left a bad taste in my mouth. The beans (charros) aren't really traditional charro beans just beans cooked in the bacon fat. Not soupy or with the additional ingredients. Rice was good. Guacamole was good and their house salsa was pretty good as well. Our server was incredibly lazy and didn't pay us any mind and I was displeased with the entire experience. We even had drinks after because my partner forced me took those we're ok too. Mind you we only came here because of the event and the taste of the food that night. First off, after talking to the GM, I can tell you this place REALLY cares about their food and the quality. They work way above avg and it shows. You have got to try the chicken fajitas. They have this grilled flavor in them that's just perfect! Also, their corn tortillas. I normally don't like corn tortillas, but these, hand made every day, have a bit of sweetness to them. Tacos were fabulous Sat at the bar .tender was very unattentive All non alcoholic drinks are not on menu..had to ask Tender brought the ice tea and I asked for sweetner..got it then realized I had no silverware so I stirred it with my finger..then looked around and found a station behind me so I got up And got myself a napkin and utinsils.
