Great service, great food! Exactly what I needed after a night of travel. I recommend this place.

I tremendously enjoyed this restaurant. I call this a hidden gem because even though it's on the northeast corner of the very busy intersection of 6th Ave and Sheridan, you may drive past by it unless someone told you about it. It's also very unassuming. It looks like a very small restaurant on the outside but once you are inside, you'll be shocked to see its good size dining area. This place is all about happiness. I mean seriously!! They care about their customers that get satisfied with their service and meals. And it does draw a very diverse crowd from the Hispanics to Caucasians to Asians, I mean you name it. They also get a lot of to-go orders. Some people came in, grabbed their food and went on their way for the night. My friend got the Torta Los Carboncito. This is a massive sandwich with plenty of meat inside. Since the menu has colored picofor almost each item, what caught my attention was the fish dish. There are two of them: one is trout and the other is something else (I forgot) but I got me the non-trout one. The lady asked me if I wanted the flour or corn tortillas so I went with the corn one. As soon as I got home, my late night snacking started. I only took several bites out of that whatever the huge fish. And oh my goodness, it was so delicious! Well-seasoned with very light salt. Although I mainly got it for tomorrow morning/lunch I had a hard time quit eating because of its deliciousness. Extremely welcoming staff (I even met the owner, Alex as he was dining with his family), quality food and value pricing, this place checks out for the hidden gem restaurant that's not necessarily super fancy but it's worth every penny and time. Nothing special at all. The portion in the chicken fajitas was generous, but the chicken has no flavor. my husband said his pork was just greasy and flavorless. The relleno burrito was ok but mainly just a lot of beans x The rice was flavorless, the beans tasted funky. The kids burrito came out cold. The only good thing was the margaritas. The Cadillac and coin were spot on and really delicious. $5 sodas! We paid $100 for a bunch of flavorless food. read more

I finally got to try this place after having it recommended to me by multiple people for being some of the best, most authentic Mexican restaurants in Lakewood. The chips and salsa were amazing (although all but the most basic was too spicy for me, my bad) but I was slightly disappointed by the sopes. They were a little bland, but I'm sure that they would have been delicious if I had a higher spice tolerance so that I could have added the range of salsas that were provided for the table. I definitely want to come back and try something else here! Service was fast and friendly and we had no wait for lunch on a Sunday. read more

extremely authentic and delicious mexican cuisine here. my gordita de camarones was excellent: the shrimp was seasoned well, the cheese perfectly abundant, and the shell super crispy. when you first arrive, the servers bring you free chips and an assortment of salsas, all very tasty and spicy. the staff are very nice and attentive. you can just feel the community here. there are plenty of tables and the restaurant is very spacious. there's a full bar area as well. i would come back a thousand times for this food. highly, highly recommend. read more

Think of fajitas if you chopped all the ingredients up and melted in some cheese and added bacon. Yeah. First off the bald headed waiter service sucks. Threw menus and insisted to speak in Spanish to our table with a funky attitude. Yet the table directly behind us received smiles and English and customer service worth higher than 1 star. Wow - what can I say? This is legit authentic Mexican food. From the vibe to the delivery, this was an outstanding meal for me. Drink: Horchata! So so so good! Usually, when I try it at other restaurants I am always so disappointed due to the lack of flavor. The one at Los Carboncitos was so delicious, flavorful. Located a couple miles outside downtown Denver off 6th & Sheridan, this location is a hidden gem in an unbecoming little stretch of businesses with ample parking. They do great takeout, but dining in is even better! The food is outta this world - so authentic & full of flavor! The chips and salsa are complimentary & so fresh, the salsa has a kick! They also bring out 4 housemade hot salsas too, I love them!! Their tacos are simple & delicious, your choice of protein on homemade corn tortillas topped with onions & cilantro. I love the carnitas, chorizo, carne asada & pollo. Their enchiladas are sooo good bc they're not smothered with too much sauce or cheese, and they grill the corn tortillas before rolling the enchiladas so it has a great grill flavor! You can get half green & half red too, yum. This is one of my favorite non green chile Mexican restaurants in the Denver metro area. It has been consistently terrific the 15+ years we've been coming. I fell in love with the location over on 38th many moons ago, well before that neighborhood was gentrified. The al pastor is harmonious with the pork off the spit and griddled with fresh pineapple, cilantro and onion wrapped in a fresh corn tortilla. The five salsas served with chips are delicious although 3 out of 5 of them are too spicy for this gringa. I have had their gorditas which are something to behold with the unusual corn wrapper. The rolled tacos, also known as tacos dorados, are terrific. The guacamole on the side is terrific, none of that weird guacamole food stuff served at so many family owned Mexican restaurants. The sopes are a treat as are the huaraches. There are so many things to try! I find it hard to move past the al pastor tacos since they are stellar here but we still try different menu items from time to time. This family is great to support. The service is outstanding. Don't let the appearance of this strip mall fool you. The restaurant itself is dated but well maintained with the folks here cranking out delicious Mexican food. read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem! It was a busy Sunday afternoon but we were seated quickly in this authentic restaurant with a great atmosphere. The service was fast and friendly. Our food and drinks were delivered within a few minutes of ordering. They have a vast menu with some really interesting/not your average foods you would find on a Mexican menu. The house margarita is delicious and pairs well with the variety of salsas that are delivered to your table with chips. Give this local place a try! Los Carboncitos is one of Denver's best Mexican restaurants hands down! You will never walk into this place and find it empty, and if you do give it 10 minutes and it will be packed. It's not a fancy restaurant by any means and isn't decorated to be trendy they care more about the quality of food, but I do love all the Frida Khalo paintings. The food and service are always great here and you will never leave unsatisfied. One of my favorite things about this restaurant is when they bring out their salsa and chips, they not only bring out the main salsa but also 4 other ones as well. Salsa is my addiction so this makes me very happy, and the salsas are all delicious and have great heat to them. My favorite dish here is the burrito de lengua (cow tongue), although anything on their menu is delicious. My wife always orders the huaraches and those are fantastic!! Just a short update to share that despite the COVID pandemic, Los Carboncitos is doing well. We stopped in recently and enjoyed all of our favorites: Enchiladas Verdes (we ordered to go as we had just eaten, lol, which I can share with confidence - these babies are just as yummy on day two!) House margaritas - sooo simple and so stinking good. Chips and salsa - also house made and still so good! Still rockin five salsas. We love this place. They know us; we know them. I would have never known this place existed if it wasn't for yelp. It's back off Sheridan right near the W 6th Ave. I ordered a burrito and queso to go. They gave me an estimate of 15-20 minutes for the food to be ready. When I walked in they had a decent amount of people in the restaurant for a late lunch. I was greeted promptly and the server was very friendly. I got there roughly 15 min after riding and my food was ready to go. She gave me extra hot sauces without me even asking and held the door open for me since I was on a crutch. The burrito was really good! I'd definitely get another from here. The queso was meh. When I got home it had solidified and I wasn't really happy with the reheated queso. I'm sure if you go sit down it would be better fresh. I'll definitely be giving this place a shot again this time sitting inside as it seems very authentic. read more

To the karen that said "small portions"... this torta is literally the size of my hand. 1st off, the staff is extremely welcoming and loving. 2nd, this torta (carbonicito) is the greatest combination of meat I've ever put in my mouth. With soft loving bread, avocado, pineapple, caramelized onion, and nopalitos gently nestled in your mouth hole for an exuberant experience making you want to come back for more. The reposado house margarita is abundantly smooth yet perfectly dosed to leave you feeling warm and fuzzy..if you have a chance, please buy the warm baked goods from the nice woman walking around the various businesses in the strip. Dropped in before they closed up and was not disappointed especially being on our way back to Cali. To start the rajas en queso were excellent and a great appetizer. The enchiladas verdes were savory and the salsas were on point for every pallet. If in need of Mexican food that's not Tex Mexi this was it.
