Although I didn't technically dine in, the server was incredibly welcoming and polite; he offered a table and glass of water for me as I waited. I ordered the Pescado taco (decent!) and Carne Asada (SO good, I'm def coming back for this one). The interior of Teocalli Cocina has a calming & trendy aesthetic and beautiful plants everywhere. We decided to stop in for a family members birthday dinner. I had made a reservation event though there were only three of us. I have driven by Teocalli numerous times and it always seemed to be busy, naturally I assumed it was a good place. We got the salads trio to start, if you like spicy, there are a few great salad options. And if you don't care for too much spice but love flavor the roasted tomatillo salsa is nice. We got the shistio peppers to start as well, no hot ones in the mix. It is quite a large portion, could feed four to six comfortably especially if you get another app and tacos. I got the carnitas and pork belly tacos both were delicious but the carnitas was out of this world flavorful! I wish I had order more of them but I was so full from the apps and pork belly taco that I couldn't eat another bite. They do have other locations around Colorado. I had been to the one in Arvada before but I don't remember the carnitas taco taking as amazing as it did at the Lo-hi location. read more

I went with a group of 8, and I totally recommend going with a bunch of people so you can try a bit of everything. We ordered a bunch of starters and spilt them- which was not only cheap but super fun. Top starters I recommend- queso fundido 10/10.the cheese pull went crazy it was amazing. Also try the salsa trio, and get the macha. The peanuts and spice were delicious. You also need to get the charred pasilla ribs, I'm not a meat person but this fell off the bone and I wanted more! Other honorable mentions were the esquites, mango habanero ceviche, brussel sprouts and shishito peppers. Food came out super quick and service was great! Will be coming back for sure. read more

We heard about this place from a friend. It is all gluten free. My best friend has celiac disease and it is so nice to find a place that you can safely order anything off the menu. Our server was great and explained that the place was a former mortuary (Olinger) and was where Buffalo Bill was put on ice as he awaited his funeral. The bar downstairs is called Dearly Departed and is worth checking out as well. The food was delicious. We all agreed we did not feel there was any flavor lost in the gluten free. read more

We stumbled upon Teocalli Cocina for an early lunch and we were extremely impressed! I had the enchiladas plate with chicken. The enchilada will filled with chicken which doesn't happen frequently when I order enchiladas. It was very favorable and served with a side of beans and rice. Wow wow wow!! You guys.... This place is so good. If you couldn't tell from my "wow wow wow" intro! Teocalli is genuinely such a fun place to go to. First of all, the menu is really big so good luck choosing what to order. Naturally, we ordered a little bit of everything because it all sounded way too good. But let's go down the list... We started with the salsa trio: the roasted tomatillo, x-ni-pek (pineapple, habaneros), and the avocado verde. Each were very tasty and we made sure to save extra to put on all our tacos. I will say the pineapple was my personal favorite, but the avocado was a close second behind. They were all smoky and paired really well with everything we ordered. Next was the guacamole and queso. So the guacamole is their specific version so it has green chorizo and jalapeños. It added a nice texture. Also I'm a big fan of cotija cheese so when I saw that on there, I'm hooked. It was well balanced and again, we put it on everything! The queso was also a different take than a normal queso, but I'm here for it. Of course it came out sizzling and I was just in love. On top were pickled onions, jalapeños, and surprisingly macha salsa and chimichurri. It was different but the macha salsa brought it all together. A hint of sweet, a hint of spice.. chef kiss! And also let's give it up for the chips because they were really good to. But the tacos are the most important part! First of all: the pricing is fantastic. $4.50 to $6.50 for a taco. And you can mix and match. They are filled to the brim (extra napkins please) and are so unbelievably delicious. I got the birria taco and used the consommé for every other taco I ate. It added so much. It was crispy and decadent. The carne asada is always a classic and this did not disappoint. I also tried one of their vegetarian tacos, the cotija. It was good but probably my least favorite. My friend ordered a bunch of other tacos as well and she only had good things to say. They're all topped with goodies and seasoned to perfection. I'm sad to say we didn't order dessert but that just means we have to come back! My friend also brought her dog so know that they are dog friendly outside on the patio. Our waitress was so sweet and answered every question. She was awesome. Honestly, the vibes outside are relaxing and chill. But if you want a moody fun time or date night, go inside. It is so fun and the ambiance is kinda angsty? But like... in a good way? I'm unfortunately in Colorado Springs, but trust me when I say, I will make a trip back to Denver to eat here again. Been here several times and just love it. These folks make real food and the food consistently hits the mark. My wife and I came in for a late lunch today during the soccer finals. The place was energized and ambiance was fun. We shared the whole fish and the biria quesadilla. They were both excellent. The fish is moist and tasty, the accompanying rice has a beautifully toasty flavor and the black beans are also really good. The quesadilla with the four different sauces is just fantastic. Can't wait for my next visit. The service was also spot on. This is not your typical American Mexican restaurant food but in my opinion is, hands-down, the best Mexican food in the area. read more

Tried the new location in LoHi and was very impressed! I'd recommend branching out and not getting the classic margarita, and they have a lot of other great options that I'd like to go back to try. The tacos were delicious and reasonably priced! Taking off a star for the disappointing chips and salsa trio (the salsa trays came out about half full if that) and the chips were bland. Additionally, we sat outside on the deck, which is great vibes, but our server was not the friendliest or most helpful. This is worse than mid and that's being generous. The meat was so overcooked; you had to pour sauce on it by the bucket if you wanted it close to edible. They have a disclaimer on their menu that says improperly cooked meat is not their fault...for real!?? 10 outta 10 do NOT recommend. read more

Had an excellent lunch at Teocalli's new location in LoHi. Service was friendly and very attentive. They have a nice selection of cocktails, wine, and beer to choose from. There is seating inside as well as on the patio that overlooks downtown Denver. For my party of 3, we shared the esquites since this is a dish not typically offered. Their esquites have a unique but flavorful burnt tortilla aioli and come with extra homemade tortilla chips to enjoy the tasty dip. I opted for the pozole verde and a bigeye tuna taco. The tuna was a lettuce wrap with sticky rice and mango salsa, messy but delicious. The pozole verde was a generous portion of tender pork, hominy, cabbage, radish, and lime--so generous I had two containers of leftovers to take home! I will definitely return to try more items off of the menu. read more

This place was very underwhelming. I walked in and sat at the bar, but it took a while to be greeted. Since it was happy hour, we ordered the house margaritas, which came quickly--but they were a little too sour for my taste. I move on to a michelada but only drank about half. It tasted like a premade Bloody Mary mix, and it wasn't served with ice. The tequila selection could use improvement. They should offer more additive-free and organic tequilas, not just the flashy name-brand ones that aren't great. They did have Lalo and Don Fulano, though! We ordered the esquites and potatoes to start. Not what I was expecting, but the esquites dip was decent--and actually my favorite thing we had. It's made with fresh corn, not canned, which was a plus. I loaded up on tacos since they were $1 off for happy hour. The tuna tacos came out quickly but were filled mostly with rice and mango salsa, with just one piece of tuna. (Photo for reference.) I ate the tuna and moved on since I had more tacos coming, but would t order again. I also ordered a tempura avocado taco and an asada taco. They sounded great on the menu but didn't do it for me--I only had a bite of each. My friend ordered the combo enchiladas, and the corn tortillas were hard while the sauces were not appetizing. If you're craving Mexican food or a margarita, this is not the place!! I was shocked to find that this was the restaurants 4th location too. My first time at Teocali was two years ago for my sister's birthday and to say that I'm hooked would be an understatement. Usually what deters me from making this a monthly, if not bi-weekly trip is the distance to their further locations - so imagine my surprise when I learned that one opened up on Boulder where the previous Post Chicken and Beer Spot used to be (RIP Post at this location... *cries silently*). Yesterday evening we needed a distraction and so naturally good tacos and churros were the selection. The décor and ambiance were to die for, it has a sexy modern layout with lights low enough to be intimate, but not so low that you can barely see. We did not have the capacity to stop at the Speakeasy, Dearly Departed that is featured just beneath this space, but plan to do so soon. The service at this location, much like the others was attentive and friendly. I will also note while I do not usually partake in libations, they are also known for their delicious drinks NOW, onto the food, I got the Salsa Trio, my favorite tacos: Two Pork Bellys, Birria, and a Carne Asada and an order of churros.   Salsa Trio 9/10 We selected: Molcajete, Avocado Verde, and I cannot remember the other Having three options for salsa is always a delight. For the three we selected, I really appreciated the freshness as well as the citrus components that really complemented the warm, fresh chips. While the salsas are delicious, I would not consider them something I have to have when I go.     Pork Belly Tacos - 10/10 What's that SAUCE? A tamarind and chipotle glaze that falls just below the pickled onions. As if it isn't enough for the meat to melt in your mouth, the glaze takes it to the next level. Naturally, you would think that with only meat, onions, and sauce, this taco would lack that wow factor, but it does just the opposite. The hint of sweetness in the glaze matched with the preparation of the meat and the tang of the pickled onions does it for me every time.   Tijuana Birria - 10/10 Teocali just does meat well, and that is what takes all of their meals to the next level. My first bite into this taco sent my taste buds on a ride, and you know it's a good birria taco when the juice drips out while you bite. Every single bite presented a rich flavor of the salsa, cheese and short rib combined. Do you need the consume? Absolutely not, the taco handles flavor on its own, but adding it enhances every single bite, plus, what is birria without consume? I will note that if you are looking for a lighter taco, a birria-style taco is not the taco for you, due to the preparation, it naturally has a bit more grease to it. For me, I only get one as they are extremely filling, and if I ate more, I likely wouldn't have been able to finish the other tacos.   Carne Asada - 10/10 I don't know that I have ever had the privilege of eating a carne asada style taco that was so marinated and juicy the meat almost sparkled, but that is the experience anytime I come to Teocali. A flavorful taste on a classic when paired with the chimichurri this taco is to die for and I could probably toss three back with no problem.   Churros 10/10 The simplistic pieces of this dessert are what make it so delicious. The flavor is in the churros all on their own, but dipping them in dulce de leche and mezcal crema (mixing them if you're truly a pro) - I have no notes. read more

Went here on NYE, great price for the food you get. The only reason for 4 stars vs 5 is because we had a reservation for 9 yet when we arrived they didn't have a table that would fit us all. They offered to put us at two separate tables near each other or we could wait 40 minutes (so they said) for a table for us all. We opted to just get seated though kind of unfortunate to not be sitting all together. Though they apologized for the inconvenience. The chicken enchiladas were coated in the right amount of sauce and had tons of meat, maybe arguably too much meat? Would have been better if it was chicken and cheese which I was expecting but it only had one or the other. We also had the salsa trio which was fun to try multiple. My favorite salsa was the macha- loved that it was non traditional and similar to a peanut sauce. I also had the Tijuana shrimp taco and just wow. HOLY POZOLE! Before I forget, shout out to Jose at the bar for helping me! Randomly popped in here feeling blue and needing a break. The pozole didn't heal me but it did help a lot!!! It's in the top three pozoles I've ever had and they skim off the pork fat so it's really clean and bright. For extra boug, the give you a lime with charred herbs on it. I felt properly spoiled. I went at around 2 on a weekday and there were still people but I am sure this place is nutso during regular hours. Beautiful patio too! The food is very good and we love a Mexican restaurant that serves good wine which they definitely do! We have 2 chef suggestions. One is the Brussels Sprouts appetizer. We love the sauces and the crispiness of the outside leaves but the core of the Brussel Sprout is never cooked enough. Maybe a few minutes in the microwave before the oven roasting? Two is the tuna taco with lettuce and rice. We love it but the tuna should be sliced into strips instead of being one large piece. Great experience! Loved the house Marg and the spicy marg (forgot the name). They were high quality, I feel like I could've drank a lot if I wasn't driving. We got the salsa trio which was so fun because you get to pick your three salsas. Our fave was the tomatillo salsa, it wasn't spicy but it was super flavorful. We both ordered tacos and they were fantastic! The birria was delicious along with the carnitas, chicken and the tempura avocado. I loved the fact that the taco filling was generous.
