I have dined here several times for their bottomless brunch, which is such a great deal as long as your server isn't rude and slow. Unfortunately this was the case for us this weekend. Our server, John, was upset from the beginning because another server stole our table from him. He stormed off and when eh returned he said he would be helping us, not the other server. He then informed us of their hard stop at 2 hours from the moment we sat down. One of our 5 in the group is a vegetarian and had informed him in the beginning. From that point on 95% of the dishes brought out were vegetarian. I was a little annoyed because there were 4 of us that were not vegetarian and would have like options with meat on them. He was so focused on the vegetarian thing that he lacked in service the whole time. He refused to get us another drink until we were finished with the one we had. I mean, he wouldn't even put in the order. This slowed things down and especially with a 2 hour limit. Once our 2 hours was up, he promptly stood at our table and rudely told us that our 2 hour limit was up and we were done. I wish we had the other server. She seemed nice and friendly. This was the first time I have had bad service at Tamayo and I hope this isn't the norm going forward. read more

You know... it's a nice place. The drinks were not strong yet were very expensive and the tacos were $5 for one (single tortilla) kinda place. So, if you're into that dropping money kinda thing. We sat on the upstairs patio which was really nice. Service was great. Of you like hot ask for the mango salsa. The meat in my carne asada taco was lean and not fatty or grizzly. For the life of me I don't understand why the guac isn't made tableside being it's such a pricey, fancy Mexican type of place. We split the ceviche and traditional guacamole. The ceviche was fresh and had a sweet fruity taste that compliments the red snapper. The garnish made it look very elegant but we were all surprised at the portion for the price. The guacamole was flavorful with the pico de Gallo inside and lots of cilantro. The tortilla chips are made in house and had minimal salt on them which I liked. Overall this was a nice place for apps and drinks but the portions are small so be mindful of that. read more

I saw this restaurant had great reviews and decided to give it a try during my visit to Denver. We ordered the guac as a starter and it was average. We asked for the habanero salsa and it was very spicy but so so good! I ordered the chicken enchiladas and my boyfriend ordered the shrimp enchiladas. I loved the sauce for the chicken enchiladas it reminded me of a lighter version of a mole sauce but with more tomato. My boyfriend through the shrimp enchiladas were underwhelming. We stopped here for lunch while checking out Larimer Square. There is plenty of indoor seating and also a patio area. The interior was nice and it wasn't too crowded given that it was a Tuesday. We got the mahi mahi and carne asada tacos and shrimp enchiladas which were all pretty good. The shrimp enchiladas was extremely filling. Had another amazing meal at Tamayo last night in celebration of my wife's birthday. Our server, Nezzie, was so personable and made excellent recommendations including the Norteño Guacamole (that we absolutely demolished!) that really enhanced our enjoyment of a place we love to visit when we are in town. The evening got better when our meals arrived with my flavorful Chicken Tinga Enchiladas and her perfectly prepared Tampiqueña looking almost as good as they tasted. As a special treat, an amazing desert of Tres Leches Bread Pudding was brought out (complete with an eye-catching sparkler) that led to some ecstatic noises and eye-rolls from both of us. Tamayo overall has a lot of potential but falls flat. The margaritas and service deserve 5 stars. The staff was friendly and made the experience welcoming. The margaritas were perfect, the atmosphere combined is something that I would go back for. The food was lack luster unfortunately and could be described as meh. The food was beautifully plated but was lacking spice where spice was needed. The mole would have been perfect however it quite literally had no spice in it. The promise of authentic cuisine was not met. I would have rated the experience a 3 however when my husband went to the restroom he saw two rats running thru the restaurant. Rather than listing prices next to each item, they have a key on the left side of the menu. The caramelized bananas were definitely underwhelming, especially for $8. Def not much flavor. My enchiladas were actually pretty good. I'm a super-fan of Mexican food, so was hyped to try out Tamayo. Seemed like an upscale take on traditional Mexican food, so my wife and I excitedly came here for lunch on Friday. Was unfortunately disappointed. With the prices they're charging, I would expect top-notch ingredients and quality cooking across the board, but this wasn't the case. I'll break it down by item, from best to worst: - Wife got the carne asada tacos; she was a big fan, 4.5 stars! - Guac was great, fresh, flavorful, a little chunky, 4.5 stars - My "roasted carnitas" dish was pretty weak. Carnitas were a little bland, not heavily seasoned, a bit sweet, not nearly the quality level I was expecting for a $25 dish. I'd rate this in the 2-2.5 star range. - Rice and beans were mediocre, bordering on bad. Beans were watery to a level that sort of grossed out my wife. Rice was bland. Not sure you can top this deal. All you can eat, all you can drink brunch for $45 a person. You get the basic stuff like potatoes, bacon (delicious and my favorite), fruit, and eggs, along with some creative entrees that will make you leave uncomfortably but enjoyably full. The drinks. I LOVE places that allow you to rotate on bottomless. Start with a Bloody Mary or Bloody Maria, shift to a margarita when the time is right, and have the classic mimosa on standby when you want to do traditional. We had a group of ten people all drinking and eating, and Derek was a flawless server, both with personality and efficiency. I came with a group of five for brunch and two of them were over a half hour late, but nobody gave us a hard time about it. They started bringing our food as soon as there were a couple of us there and were very willing to repeat when the others arrived or if there were things we wanted more of. I didn't personally have the unlimited alcohol with it, but seemed like a good deal with the different options. I went with my fiancé for date night and we were able to hear each other without feeling too crammed because the seats were nicely placed. We had a large group (out of state) and we'd heard raving reviews about Tamayo from our hotel liaison, however Tamayo was closed for renovations and wouldn't be re-opening until the week before we were arriving. I reached out anyway and worked with Meg on scheduling and and a banquet event order and she was awesome! She and the chef made an amazing taco bar for our large group of nearly 50 people and it was classy - sometimes you think of a "taco bar" and it doesn't sound like you could get something delicious and amazing, but Tamayo made it spectacular! They provided us with their terrace which was heated nicely and the drinks and food were just delicious! FIVE STARS!!! We will definitely consider Tamayo again should our group come back to Denver!! Amazing food and drinks! I have to admit I was very impressed at this restaurant. At first I sort of hesitated because it seems very "touristy" but I was not disappointed! We went on a Monday morning so it was not busy at all. We were seated immediately. We had the tacos and the Tamayo margaritas with a side of rice and beans. Everything was delicious! Tamayo is a roof-top coastal Mexican eatery for the finer-things-in-life community! Flat in the middle of Larimer Square, Tamayo was completely booked out for a private party. Although leaving us with no option to dine inside, we enjoyed the host's honest and cooperative alternatives: Dine outside in the gorgeous patio, but with chances of a thunder storm. We enjoyed the host's punctuality and great communication. Although we didn't get a chance to enjoy their rooftop seating, we loved the moments of lurking their bar and admiring their Mexican-culture murals. The outside patio did have large, shaded umbrellas and comfortable chairs. We chose Tamayo as our first choice, because of their exotic menu and vegan options. Given that I live in San Diego, my standards for Mexican food are a bit out of whack, so take this review with a grain of salt. Stopped in around 4; they only had happy hour menu, so limited options. Got the regular guacamole and one of each meat taco. Food came out insanely fast (normally I'd be pleased but in this case, linked to quality issues). Waitress was businesslike and seemed surprised that I asked if a full dinner menu was available, but otherwise fine. Carne asada was the best of the tacos but that's not saying much. Carnitas was fine but the fat ratio was off, so both on the dry side and not a ton of flavor - think "pork tuna fish" instead of "chopped pork belly". Chicken taco was borderline bad; tons of thin sauce that soaked everything on the plate, with dry shredded chicken that needed fatty broth added back in. Strongly reminded me of cafeteria food. Guac is highly subjective; I like mine more chunky and less creamy than theirs, with more jalapeño, lime, and salt. Reasonable people can disagree. Portion was smallish but avocados are up in price, so again you could argue it. But this had a stem in it (see picture). Does it happen? Sure. But combined with everything else, it wasn't a good look. Overall, this feels like the kind of place that floats on their Sunday brunch reviews and gets strong marks from folks who are basically replicating the existing ratings.
