    Bread with hummus
    Carl S.

Stopped in for lunch looking for a new dining experience and was thrilled by the decision. The restaurant was empty since the visit was during Ramadan but were treated as special guests. The restaurant is spacious, beautifully decorated, and filled with art and very bright vibrant colors. We ordered hummus, tomato soup, lentil soup and Musakhan (1/2 chicken over bread). First, all the food was absolutely amazing with very generous portions placed before you. The hummus very creamy with whole garbanzo beans on top and a pool of olive oil in the center. The bread that accompanied was warm and delicious. My lentil soup which was very good but could have been warmer. Eating Musakhan was a first for me so I didn't know what to expect. The dish was crazy good and enough for four people I really appreciated their patience and food recommendations during the ordering process. Honestly, I'll think about this meal until my next visit.

    Half and Half Manaqeesh
    Cathy S.

A friend invited me here to try it out after work and it was pretty good. There is pretty decent variety of food available and the pricing is decent. My first impression was the atmosphere looked better on the inside than I expected. They have a great open space with lovely decorations and a fountain inside! The menu has appetizers to share, main entrees, and a section called bakery that has their selection of manaqeesh, sort of like a flatbread. We tried the half and half manaqeesh and that was probably one of the best things we ordered. I did like the cheesy side more than the spices. We also got a sampler platter of the appetizers which was okay- great to try a little bit of different things. We also got the grape leaves which was also okay, since it didn't feel as fresh as I would have liked. Their pita bread was warm and fresh and I loved that. We also tried the mango smoothie which was delicious and I would recommend it. The service was good and staff was sweet. The pricing was around $15 a plate. I was just disappointed that they ran out of rice when we were there, so unfortunately didn't get to try that.

I've visited a couple times for weekday lunch. The service is excellent - all staff very friendly. Plenty of seating and nicely decorated. You could bring a large group here or just meet 1-on-1 with someone. Food is excellent - exceeded expectations. They are very proud of their hummus and for good reason. Beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Mint lemonade reminded me of when I lived in Jordan. Very minty and fresh and not overly sweet. I'll be back!

    Gyro with fries.

My first time there. Was welcomed by the owner himself very graciously. Nice ambiance. I ordered a gyro with fries. the gyro was amazing, the fries unfortunately were a little too salty. before I left was offered a little tour near the coffee area and also was offered dessert on the house. which I had to decline as i do not have a sweet tooth at all. Definitely will go back whenever I'm in the area

Had been seeing ads for this place and hearing great things. Went on my lunch to try out the gyros. The space seemed very family friendly with lots of seating. The bread and all ingredients were very fresh. My favorite part was the lamb. I was one of a few, so staff was very attentive. However, it was super disappointing when I tried to order a Slice of red velvet cake sitting in the display and server said it was no good and couldn't sell it. Why was it displayed as an option? Otherwise I would def be back again for take out.

The best falafel in town (stuffed!) Get yourself a fattoush salad, some tahini sauce, chili garlic sauce and you got yourself the best falafel sandwich in Houston.

Beautiful atmosphere, enormous dinning area, with a water fountains. The food is perfectly seasoned and the portions are a lot bigger than the pictures in the menu. Service was quick and polite.

Once again, I had my favorite, the lamb shank with sautéed spinach and fresh garlic, and vegetable medley. My husband had the Greek salad, pastitsio, Greek potatoes and slice of watermelon. We had also ordered the delicious hummus and pita. Owner Maria blessed my husband with 3 generous to-go servings of her chicken vegetable orzo soup after I mentioned his current medical treatments. Our server, Sandra was great, warm, friendly, cheerful and top rate. If you don't want seed oils in your cooking, if you like made from scratch cooking with authentic ingredients, then you owe yourself at least one visit to Athena's Greek kitchen.

All dinners come with a Greek garlic bread starter. I love their iced tea- fresh brewed and always good! The wine is Greek and seems a small bit pricey, but for the extra dollar or two it's worth it- Very delicious. Anything you get at Athena's is amazing so feel free to branch out on your choice. And the desserts are large and homemade! It's hard to save room though. You'll love the fish, steaks, and kebabs. They do a nice lunch sandwich- and still comes with the bread and a Greek salad. If you come on a weekend evening, you may run into the owner having the time of her life! And they take pride in serving the most sweet and ripe slice of melon with every dish. Started to enjoy this first each time I come. It is that delicious, but why can't I find fruit like that anywhere at a grocery store? Give this place a try. Yummy. Officially the authentic Greek restaurant without going overboard. Wait- the homemade 3 layer chocolate cake and the lemon cake! Actually bought a whole one for a large birthday party and everyone wanted to know the bakery name- just Athena's homemade cake! Remember, Greek food is fresh with best ingredients. Service is above that notch and family atmosphere with Greek music- always. But I do find I'm stopping in there solo all the time; others too! Say hello to Maria when you go, she loves to talk to her clients!

Established back in 1977, this Greek café has grown from a humble walk‑up window into a full‑fledged neighborhood institution, beloved for its hearty Mediterranean comfort food and lively, come‑as‑you‑are atmosphere. The Montrose location stays bustling from lunch through late night, drawing in everyone from families to night‑owls to longtime regulars who've been coming here for decades. What keeps people returning is simple: the food hits. Diners consistently praise the authentic Greek flavors, especially the gyro plates -- a blend of beef and lamb shaved from the spit, tucked into warm, fresh pita, and finished with cool, garlicky tzatziki. Portions are generous without being sloppy, and the pricing stays reasonable, making it one of the best value spots in the neighborhood. Your gyro arrives stacked, your fries come hot, and your plate feels like it was built by someone who actually wants you to leave full. The menu is huge, but the classics shine brightest. The Greek salad is crisp and refreshing, loaded with feta, olives, tomatoes, and their famous dressing. Service here is fast, friendly, and efficient -- the kind of counter‑style operation where the staff keeps things moving without losing the warmth that makes the place feel welcoming. Guests frequently mention how upbeat and helpful the team is, even during rush hours. The vibe is lively but never chaotic: families grabbing dinner, couples sharing mezze plates, and regulars chatting with staff like old friends. It's casual, energetic, and unmistakably Montrose. One thing that sets Niko Niko's apart is its deep Houston history. The Fetokakis family has run the restaurant for nearly half a century, maintaining a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality that helped the café earn multiple Houston Press awards over the years -- from Best Pork Chops to Best Family‑Owned Restaurant. Even as the city has changed around it, Niko Niko's has stayed true to its roots: hearty food, Greek hospitality, and a community‑driven spirit. Whether you're grabbing a quick gyro, sitting down for a full spread, or stopping by for dessert after a night out, Niko Niko's delivers exactly what a neighborhood staple should: great food, great value, and a welcoming atmosphere. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and the experience feels like Houston -- diverse, warm, and full of character. If you're in Montrose and craving Greek comfort done right, this spot remains one of the city's most reliable pleasures.
