Sayad Mediterranean Kitchen is a Houston treasure and I recently had the opportunity to dine here with a Lebanese national. Which meant I got to try some dishes that I did not know about. And to enjoy perfect renditions of some I did. Let me tell you. The hummus, baba ganoush, and other meze are as good as one can find in Houston. A meze I was unfamilar with combined yogurt and bits of grilled lamb. I learned that it is called fateh and that there are many variants on the one we had today. Additionally, a kofta casserole with tahini was good. A fish dish on the menu, Homemade Sayiddeh should be considered and ordered without hesitation. Kunefe though. A quick search with Wiki indicates it is Turkish. "While a similar dish, knafeh, is found throughout the Middle East, künefe is distinctly Turkish, believed to have originated in Hatay and made specifically with the province's namesake cheese, which is similar to fresh mozzarella. " But my host begged to differ. And the one we had today was special and unique for me. Instead of the melty cheese, its center, underneath the layer of crispy kataifi, called Ashtah, was made from clotted cream, probably semolina, possibly corn starch, sugar and rose blossom water. It was delicious and I am already dreaming about having it again. Sayad should be high up on your list of places to visit in Houston. Check out these photos from today.

Highly recommend! Food was AMAZING and portion sizes are huge. We ordered the hummus, cheese arayes, beef shish kebab, chicken shish tawook, and mint lemonade, and every dish was packed with flavor. Highly recommend trying the mint lemonade, very sweet and refreshing! Portion sizes were very generous and you definitely get your bang for your buck. The restaurant itself was spacious and had a cozy feel. Service could have been better, but overall, no complaints. Will be coming back!

The food is amazing every single time! From the complimentary fluffy, generously sized naan, to the appetizers and entrees, everything has tasted delicious. In the past I've ordered their Falafel, fried calamari, Beef kabob (generous size, and that's coming from my husband) and my go-to order every time- Tikka Chicken platter!! Their portions are sooo generous I literally have lunch for the next day. Service is very kind and helpful but a little slow. Hookah is available on the patio (I haven't tried it). Inside is gorgeous and full of history. A must go!!

I give 5 stars to this place because the food was out of this world and affordable. They still need to work on the waiter situation but that's OK because the owner is attentive and warm. Will go back for sure.

I had an amazing lunch here. Frankly, this is one of the best Mediterranean restaurants in Houston. 1. Hummus 10/10: came with complimentary hot pita. So good and fresh. 2. Mixed grill 6/10: meat was dry. I wonder if it was because of ramadan, it was not fresh grilled meat 3. Lamb chops 8/10: very good but a little bit under flavored. Im just used to eating a lot of salt haha 4. Claypot meat 10/10: a lot of spices. This dish is very special. I feel like I am taking a trip to the Middle east while eating this lol 5. Knafeh 6/10: I would not order this again. The cheese was chewy and not pairing well. I remember at other bakery the cheese was softer and more melting in your mouth. This tasted like string cheese.

The food was so yummy and full of flavor and seasonings! The wait staff were very friendly and fast service we had 65 people and they did not disappoint. The place was very clean and cute little middle eastern decor.

Talk about phenomenal food! Truly such a wonderful experience. We came here & wanted to try a few items so we got their mixed grill platter, clay pot meat, tabouli, hummus, fattoush & batata hara which were ALL exceptional & delicious. The staff was phenomenal & it's Palestinian owned with artwork depicting different cultures. We just loved everything about it & will be back! I highly recommend it.

Started to enjoy this first each time I come. It is that delicious, but why can't I find fruit like that anywhere at a grocery store? Give this place a try. Yummy. Officially the authentic Greek restaurant without going overboard. Wait- the homemade 3 layer chocolate cake and the lemon cake! Established back in 1977, this Greek café has grown from a humble walk‑up window into a full‑fledged neighborhood institution, beloved for its hearty Mediterranean comfort food and lively, come‑as‑you‑are atmosphere. The Montrose location stays bustling from lunch through late night, drawing in everyone from families to night‑owls to longtime regulars who've been coming here for decades. What keeps people returning is simple: the food hits. Diners consistently praise the authentic Greek flavors, especially the gyro plates -- a blend of beef and lamb shaved from the spit, tucked into warm, fresh pita, and finished with cool, garlicky tzatziki. Portions are generous without being sloppy, and the pricing stays reasonable, making it one of the best value spots in the neighborhood. Your gyro arrives stacked, your fries come hot, and your plate feels like it was built by someone who actually wants you to leave full. The menu is huge, but the classics shine brightest. The Greek salad is crisp and refreshing, loaded with feta, olives, tomatoes, and their famous dressing. Service here is fast, friendly, and efficient -- the kind of counter‑style operation where the staff keeps things moving without losing the warmth that makes the place feel welcoming. Guests frequently mention how upbeat and helpful the team is, even during rush hours. The vibe is lively but never chaotic: families grabbing dinner, couples sharing mezze plates, and regulars chatting with staff like old friends. It's casual, energetic, and unmistakably Montrose. One thing that sets Niko Niko's apart is its deep Houston history. The Fetokakis family has run the restaurant for nearly half a century, maintaining a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality that helped the café earn multiple Houston Press awards over the years -- from Best Pork Chops to Best Family‑Owned Restaurant. Even as the city has changed around it, Niko Niko's has stayed true to its roots: hearty food, Greek hospitality, and a community‑driven spirit. Whether you're grabbing a quick gyro, sitting down for a full spread, or stopping by for dessert after a night out, Niko Niko's delivers exactly what a neighborhood staple should: great food, great value, and a welcoming atmosphere. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and the experience feels like Houston -- diverse, warm, and full of character. If you're in Montrose and craving Greek comfort done right, this spot remains one of the city's most reliable pleasures.
