Beef Barg with Cranberry and Dill Rice
    Ken N.

I went to KASRA over the weekend with some friends from out of town. They loved the authentic Persian food and wonderful service. This is a fun restaurant where are you can relax and enjoy your meal for several hours. I had the Beef Barg with cranberry rice, and dill rice. All of their food is delicious and I look forward to coming back.

I had never tried Persian food previously, and after seeing so many good reviews about Kasra, I decided to try them out recently for a dinner for two. It's located in a large shopping center on Westheimer & Gessner, and despite the large number of parking spots, it was super packed and took a while for us to find parking on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is well-decorated, and the service was great. There were so many options to choose from on their menu, and we went with the Seafood Combo which came with the Salmon Kabob & Shrimp Kabob, and the Kasra Combo with Beef Chenjeh & Chicken Barb. The dinner also came with a huge complimentary pita and herb salad (ask for the salad dressing. It's amazing!). Both portions were huge and extremely delicious. My favorite was the Shrimp Kabob, so I definitely want to go back for more. We arrived hungry and definitely left extremely full and satisfied.

This is an excellent Persian restaurant in Houston area with some very unique Persian dishes I haven't seen in Persian restaurants in other cities. The Taftoon bread was warm and soft and was very good with the hummus, and eggplant dips. Main dishes we tried were 1) Chicken Kubideh, 2) Fesenjan chicken stew and 3) Kasra Combo with Chicken and Salmon kabobs. The Chicken Kubideh and the kabobs were soft, delicious and delightful. Warm and fast service with good ambiance.

After spontaneously eating at the Rice Village location a few weeks ago, I made my way to the original Kasra for the first time since my review 16 years ago. We split the kubideh combo, which comes with a ground beef and ground chicken kabob. The portion was so substantial, we got three meals out of it. We also upgraded the rice to the shirin rice, which has orange zest, barberries, and almonds. The kabobs were fantastic, but let me say, that rice was incredible. It's so fragrant and flavorful. My only grievance is that I wish they have you more than one cube of feta per person on the plate with herbs and radishes. The bread is always hot, soft, and puffy. Assuredly, I'll be back regularly from now on.

I love Kazra!! I visit TX from CA and always need to eat at Kazra. The service is fast! Food is bomb and authentic and the restaurant is lively. The bathrooms are so beautiful! One of my favorite dishes is the kale salad and the Kezra platter. The hummus tastes so fresh and the pita bread is soft and served warm. Please open a Kazra in the Bay Area!!

Excellent service and dining experience. You have to order the appetizers platter with your complimentary bread. The mixed meats platter provides enough food to serve 6-8 hungry adults. We really enjoyed the dining service since drinks were refilled and our server returned often to check on our table. I would definitely return to try their other entrees.

Really good food!! Got the kasra combo and the lamb filets. Soooo good! The meats were tender and juicy! Can't go wrong! Also got the appetizer sampler! Loved their hummus! So good

Excellent meat quality and seasons! Our party of 7 had the 'family platter' and we had leftovers. The appetizer sampler was also super tasty and high quality. Staff was patient, friendly and attentive. Nice ambiance with plenty of room for large crowds.

Food is good, service is quick, the restaurant is well-decorated, and servers were considerate in bringing out our food later so it wouldn't get cold while we waited for the last member of our party to arrive :) Only complaint is that we were served hummus, which we assumed came complimentary with the bread & side vegetables since the staff just set it down on our table. However, we were charged for it at the end. I understand the charge itself, but no one at the table had ordered it; they just set it on the table. It would have been nice if the staff had made it clear or asked if we wanted to add it to our meal. Perhaps there was a mix up with another table. Our experience was otherwise great, but double check the menu for what is complimentary and what isn't.

Food: We got the appetizer sampler with hummus, kashke bademjan (eggplant), and mast labu (yogurt and beets) - all delicious with the bread! My favorite was the mast labu - I could eat mounds of the yogurt dip, the beets and the walnuts add a nice nuttiness and sweetness to the dip. For entrees we got the chicken barg and beef chenjeh - both were super juicy and tender. Beef is cooked a bit more on the rare side. The portions are also huge and accompanied by buttered rice and some grilled tomatoes. Service: Our server was incredible - he made a great recommendation for the appetizer with the yogurt dip. My fiancé wanted to try the yogurt drink, but our server warned him of the flavor and let him have a small sample before deciding - it was super acidic so he definitely saved us from ordering something we wouldn't like. At the end of our meal I also forgot my card at the table, and he ran after us at the parking lot to return it! Super thankful for him for making sure we had good experience! Vibe: Great for families! Loved the decor and the architecture inside. Super spacious and plenty of parking at the plaza

What a gem! A friend introduced me to Kasra and I was surprised I had not heard of it before. It is in a shopping center with plenty of parking available. The restaurant is in the corner and has a nice aesthetic with plants as the ambiance. Our waiter was phenomenal and truly anticipated our needs. Plus the food was AMAZING! Highly recommend!

We were looking to try something new and someone had recommended Kasra to us so we decided to check it out. After a 25min wait, we were seated at a table between two very large parties; it was uncomfortable and there was no room. We said we were not uncomfortable and were told this was the only table. Jacob our waiter was really good and came quickly to get our order but the encroachment from the parties was too much so we asked to move. Both hosts were very unaccommodating and inhospitable and that made the entire experience bad! the experience got worse when we got the food. the eggplant was filled with garlic and had no other flavor, the persian salad literally had no flavor nor taste and was just cut up cucumbers and tomatoes with nothing else, the rice with the kabobs also were very plain and no taste, and the kabobs also did not taste good. overall bad customer service by the host and bad food - the only saving grace was our water Jacob who was very good there are better Persian restaurants in Houston so save your time and go somewhere else!

The food here is so good, I'm glad I convinced my friends to come here. We came in on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. Our waitress was so sweet, friendly, and so helpful with giving suggestions. The restaurant itself is HUGE and there is plenty of seating every where. We were given complimentary pita and well as some fresh vegetables and cheese to start off with. We also ordered a small hummus which was so smooth, creamy and garlicky. It paired so well with the crispy, yet fluffy pita. For entrees we got the chenjeh prepared medium well and the Kubideh Combo. The chenjeh platter doesn't look like much but the meat was tender, and slightly peppery. The rice was flavorful and the grilled tomatoes provided a refreshing side to the dish. The Kubideh Combo came with a beef kebab and a chicken kebab. We also asked to substitute some of the rice with a persian salad. The beef kebab tasted like a beef meatball. The chicken kebab was much more flavorful and tender. The persian salad was super refreshing and went well with the kebabs. We also ordered some garlic sauce which was fluffy and super garlicky (my favorite flavor). Will definitely be returning!

It wasn't the greatest start since I was waiting for 5 minutes for a host/hostess to attend to us…read more I think she was busting tables or in the kitchen but she was nice once we were accommodated. Once seated our server Baba introduced himself and made great recommendations. Now I'm not the biggest fan of hummus but I'm glad I got to try it. To start off, they brought us some complimentary bread. It came out hot & fresh. The bread was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I also enjoyed the roasted sesame seeds that they put on top of the bread. Then I had the mango lemonade drink which I thought was refreshing and the mango was strong. As stated I rarely eat hummus but theirs is made in house and I can tell because it was delicious. It was creamy, nutty, savory and earthy. My friend decided to get their lamb shish kabob combo and I got the soltani kabob. His came with lamb and chicken and mine came with beef tenderloin and ground beef. Both dishes were amazing especially his since the chicken was bursting with flavor. Nicely grilled and seasoned. The lamb was also solid as well, it was tendered. The beef tenderloin was also nicely seasoned & tendered. The ground beef was my least favorite since it tasted like hamburger meat, but I don't hate it. The rice was cooked to perfection. At the end I ordered their dessert and got the Bastani Irani. It says on the website that it's homemade but our server informed us that they purchased it from a vendor. Not a big deal for me since the ice cream was very good. Creamy, sweet and the nuts added texture to the dessert. Baba was kind enough to give me two more breads to take home since I still had hummus leftover, I'm definitely gonna devoured it the next day. It's rare that I eat Persian food but when I do I know it's gonna be good. They do not mess around when it comes to seasoning. Overall, good service, good food, nice decor. I'm looking forward to trying out their seafood kabob the next time I dine in. I also wanna add that this restaurant is on Yelp top 100 for recommendations and I'm not surprised.

It's the kind of spot that works just as well for a casual dinner as it does for a relaxed night out with friends or family. We started off with the lentil soup, which was comforting and flavorful--light yet satisfying, with a nice balance of spices. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and elevated even more by the complimentary fresh bread, which came out warm and perfectly baked--easily one of the highlights of the meal. For mains, the Koobideh Combination stole the show. The kababs were juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly, with that classic smoky flavor that makes Persian kabobs so good. Definitely the standout dish and a must-order. The Salmon & Chicken combo was equally impressive--both proteins were tender, nicely grilled, and paired beautifully with the saffron rice and grilled vegetables, giving you a great mix of flavors and textures. We also tried the Soujuk & Cheese Lahmajun, which added a nice twist to the meal. It had a crispy base with rich, savory toppings, and the cheese brought everything together really well--great for sharing. Avesta is a solid go-to for Persian cuisine in Houston. Between the quality of the kababs, fresh bread, and overall flavor, everything hit the mark. Pair that with the great atmosphere and welcoming staff, and it's definitely a place worth coming back to

The bread the veggies that came out were very good. The appetizer sampler we got the eggplant dish, hummus, and yogurt and shallot. The hummus was not our favorite as our other go to Persian places seem to have a smoother texture but the eggplant was good. The yogurt was pretty tangy with light shallot flavor that wasn't super detectable but it was still nice. The koobideh was juicy and the rice and tahdig that came with it was super yummy. I don't love the seasoning for the chicken koobideh but that's just a preference thing nothing was wrong or unpleasant about it. The lamb koobideh was on point. The meat that my SO had was very good as well. Beef was tender. The chicken was tender. The only thing I was confused about was that my SO was supposed to also have tahdig on his rice but didn't receive it, he just got normal rice. My SO didn't tell me until the very end of the meal though so we didn't say anything to them but it was strange to forget that part of the meal. We didn't knock them for that because my SO didn't bring it to their attention and I'm sure they would have fixed it if we told them. Service was very friendly. They kept checking on us and were very polite. The outside of the restaurant is unassuming in a strip mall but the inside is pretty. There are some other Persian places that we prefer but the tahdig and the service and the juiciness of the meat were great here. The hummus was not our favorite though which to us is a big component that we like to eat. 4/5.

We were just told to sit down, only on the right side of the dining area. Thought they would bring out the food. They rang a bell and called out a number. I looked at my receipt, saw the number and told my husband that we had to pick it up. It looks like a full service restaurant, but it's not. My husband walked up to the cashier's counter, expecting the order. The cashier pointed him to the other dining area. It was just placed on top of the food case, no counter. Someone verified it was our order before he took it. I'm short and if I were picking up a bowl of their lentil soup and can't see if the soup is level, there could be a spill. The lamb shank was good, but we had to ask for the sauce that normally comes with it. She brought it. The butter was melted, so dripped over the rice easily. I guess it was too much to ask that the bread plate include feta cheese like at other Persian restaurants. I don't recommend coming in late as the bread was very hard. Dipping it in the sauce helped.

My wife and i and our son and grandson enjoyed everything we tried. The lunch special skewer of…read morebeef shish kabob and skewer of boneless chicken with rice and bread and a canned soda.... was tender and full of flavor....and very reasonably priced. Our son got the same thing. My wife loved her mix chelo kabob plate, one skewer of beef kubideh (ground beef) and one skewer of chicken kubideh (ground chicken) with rice and bread. We loved helping her finish it off. They brought us a small coffee pot and three cups with some sqvory coffee...on the house. The front of the building had a sign saying they are the oldest Persian grill in Texas...established in 1986. We can see why they've been around as long as they have, great food and service and prices. You order at the counter. They have olive oil and sumac at the counter, they made nice additions to our meals.

How have I not reviewed Bijan??…read more This is one of our family favorites. In fact, when our daughter applied to college and the prompt was to write about a family tradition, she wrote about Sunday family dinners at Bijan with three generations. Imagine grandparents, parents, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins eating all together every weekend, frequently at Bijan, for the first 18 years of her life. Sharing a meal together. Building memories. So wonderful. A decade later, we are still are having family dinners at Bijan. During the pandemic, this was the last place that we ate before everything closed down and it was one of the first when we decided to eat out again as a family. It was nice to hear a warm hello, welcome back, we missed you. 29B-Grilled Chicken Breast. Lentil soup. Shirazi salad. Bijan special. Hummus. Salmon kabobs. Lamb kabobs. Plates filled with extra radishes, feta cheese and herbs. Extra crispy bread fresh out of the oven for my father-in-law. Pouring hot cardamon tea into dainty glass tea cups while we wait for our food. One cube of sugar that lasts several cups. Maybe a little mint added as well. So good. Love the renovation. It looks great. Thanks for the great food and honoring our family's customizations over the years. We will be back again...and again. BTW...If you were wondering, the essay was a winner. She did get accepted to the school that asked about a family tradition.
