Went here for the first time for an early birthday celebration and this place was outstanding! The food, vibe, drinks, and service were top notch. Here is what we ordered and what I recommend: Drinks - get the Shazdeh Garden, this drink was a work of art and amazing! Their Turkish coffee martini was also a great pairing with the desserts. Apps: Labne Charred Tomatoes 10/10 - incredible! Roasted cremini and mushroom hummus 12/10 - perfection! Mirza Ghasemi eggplant - 9/10 - very tasty. Lamb ribs - 10/10 - delish. Feast: American Wagyu Kabob - 10/10 - this was divine. Must get this one. Chicken Barg 9/10 - so good. Koobideh kabob - 10/10 - delicious. Braised Lamb shank - 10/10 - delectable - the lamb is a must. Sides- we added the shirin rice (delightful) and the green chili chutney and yogurt. Desserts: Pistachio cake - 910 - yummy Toffee cake - 10/10 incredible - this one was my fav. Service was remarkable! Our server, Adorian, was SUPERB! He recommended some great selections, was very attentive, and gave us a phenomenal experience. I absolutely recommend this place! The restaurant itself is gorgeous, and the vibe is top-tier. We will undoubtedly be back! Thank u Rumi's Kitchen for a superior dinning experience!

I came to roomie's kitchen for my birthday lunch and it was a beautiful experience. The food was very delicious. The interior is absolutely gorgeous and the service was impeccable. I really enjoyed everything I consumed and I wanted to take home the dip and the bread that we had received. I cannot wait to return.

Love rumis!!! Everything from the freshness of the food, to the amazing service and the vibe of the restaurant is 10/10. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu, but our faves are the chicken wings, falafel, tahini hummus, beef koobideh and the chicken! Check this place out!

Just the BEST drink ever! SS Poet

Wow! This place did not disappoint. We started the evening at the bar while waiting for a table. Note to self: make reservations next time. We got super lucky because someone didn't show up. I kicked things off with a bourbon cocktail (SS Poet). It went down smoothly -- almost too smoothly. A couple more of those and I would've been in trouble. Luckily, they have an extensive wine selection, so we ordered a lovely bottle instead. I definitely want to go back and drink my way through the cocktail list. On to the food! We started with hummus and couldn't decide which one to get, so we ordered two. My favorite was the lamb hummus -- I loved the crispy texture combined with the soft, pillowy layers of hummus. Total party in your mouth. I probably wouldn't order the mushroom one again. There was nothing wrong with it; the mushrooms just overpowered the hummus a bit for me. Now for the star of the show: the Koobideh. Out of this world. Probably the best I've had in Houston, and I've tried quite a few places. If I had to rank the entrées: Koobideh #1, filet #2 Shish), chicken #3, and shrimp last. The shrimp just weren't my favorite -- they had a stronger seafood aroma than I prefer. Overall, I would come back a thousand times. The staff was super friendly, and the restaurant is huge. Parking isn't great, so valet is basically your best bet. Highly recommend checking this place out. Cheers!

Falafel (5 stars) - best I've ever had. Thin, crispy exterior and soft, smooth, and seasoned underneath

My colleague from Houston has selected another 5-star restaurant for a business dinner. The restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night and somehow he snagged a table for four. Houstonians, flush with cash, seem to love dining out all days of the week. You'll have the beat experience if you split several appetizers and a few entrees family style: 1. Falafels are a must get and were among the best I've had. Golf-ball sized with a thin crispy crust and super smooth, green filling. 2. Mushroom Hummus is another winner. The cremini mushrooms added so much earthy flavor and umami that the hummus was in the background. 3. Texas-sized Grilled Gulf Shrimp were like the size of baby lobsters. It was seasoned perfectly, flavor permeating the meat and not just the shell. 4. Eggplant was decent and good with the toasted flatbread. 5. For entrees, the Sea Bass was outstanding. They must have cooked it sous vide to get that silky smooth texture while finishing on the grill to get that outer crispy crust. The chicken breast was juicy and the koobideh were both good too but that seabass was simply on another level. Obviously, even with four people we had difficulty finishing up the mountains of rice. Also, no room for dessert. The appetizers were all worth it.

Everything was a ten- my parents and I were amazed. Portions were all very big and definitely could have fed way more than us 3 lol. That being said, our plates were cleared. The flavor on everything was sublime. My favorites were the chicken flatbread to dip in the delicious smoked eggplant and hummus, along with the tender and juicy kabob. The service was quick and excellent and the restaurant had a beautiful interior and gorgeous asthetic. I can't wait to be back to try more dishes.

Everything is top class. The restaurant does get pretty loud at peak times so be mindful of that. The food is amazing, from appetizers to dessert. Nothing disappoints. The service is also helpful and attentive.

The image shows a restaurant interior with a high wooden ceiling, large mirror, and diners seated at tables with wine glasses and tableware.

I came here for my birthday and had an amazing experience. I called ahead to make a reservation and the staff made it super easy to find a time for my party size. The lighting and ambiance were perfect, with lamps that you could change the lighting for depending on personal preference. Our server was so amazing and attentive. She also gave us recommendations on hummus and food. We ordered family style and got 1 hummus, 2 lamb and 2 chicken kebabs between 5 of us which was more than enough because we still had some to take to go! The portions were generous. I preferred the lamb over the chicken but both were pretty good. I also got a complimentary dessert for my birthday!

Loved my time here! The ambiance is sophisticated and upscale with dim lighting. The entrance was grand, and right when you walk in, you see their extensive wine collection beautifully displayed to your left. I also loved the open kitchen towards the back of the dining room. The whole restaurant is super aesthetic, so it is also a great place to take pictures. I got the lamb merguez hummus and the grilled shrimp to start. For entrees, I got the chicken kabob, and my friend got the shish kebab. I also tried the gifts of the beloved and orange umbrella cocktails. The lamb merguez hummus was super creamy and flavorful. It was perfect with the pita and the merguez was also very tender and well-seasoned. (8/10) The grilled shrimp only came with two, but the flavor was great and the char on the shrimp was perfect. The sauce it came with was cheesy/garlicy/ creamy, and also paired well with the entree meats. I just wish it came with a bigger portion. (7/10) The chicken kabob was standard. The meat was tender, however the flavor was lacking a bit without the sauce. (6/10) The shish kabob was cooked perfectly medium and came with grilled onions and bell peppers, which I also enjoyed. (7.5/10) My friend got the albaloo and adas rice to pair with the shish kabob and I liked how to sourness of the cherries and sweetness of the raisins contrasted the savory meat. The drinks really impressed me. The gifts of the beloved cocktail was a mezcal-based cocktail and it was the perfect mix of fruity and smoky. It was really smooth and tasted delicious. (8.5/10) I was recommended the orange umbrella by our waitress because I also like tequila and I really liked this one as well. It did taste a bit stronger than the first, but if you don't mind that I would recommend this for you (8/10). All the dishes, other than the shrimp, came with huge portions perfect for sharing with a group. They also came with a charred tomato on each main dish. I left with plenty of leftovers and was very full at the end of my meal. The service was a bit slow at first because they had a full dining room, but once we ordered the dishes came out quickly and the servers were very attentive. There is valet parking or free parking on the side of the complex as well as in the garage behind. The food was overall great and very comparable to other Persian spots I've tried. I would definitely come back for a special occasion.

    Chicken and soltani kebabs

I've come here two times now and have loved both experiences! The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and trendy, making it perfect for a fun group dinner or an intimate date night. There's valet parking and a garage right behind/on top of the restaurant for free. This is one of the few restaurants in Houston that's both aesthetic and has good food. The first time I came here last week, my table ordered the mushroom hummus, Chilean sea bass and lamb rack. The second time I came here, my table ordered the lamb hummus, crispy potatoes, lamb kebab, chicken kebab and the soltani kebab. We also opted for the toffee cake and received a free tiramisu dessert for a celebration! The portions are humongous and filling. Both times, the dishes ordered were plenty and had to take leftovers. All entrees that I ordered come with a large platter of two different rices and roasted tomatoes. The kebabs are so flavorful, juicy and tender. My favorite kebabs were the lamb and soltani. I'm not typically a huge fan of lamb but it was prepared super well at Rumi's. Another favorite dish of mine were the crispy potatoes (tasty sauce on the potatoes) and the hummus! Both the mushroom and lamb hummus were good, but I think I personally preferred the mushroom one a bit more. Service is absolutely great too. Shoutout to Kyle for making the experience for my friends and I!

I've been to Rumi's 11 times in less than 2 months. Why? I can eat healthy in an upscale environment. My go to is the roasted salmon sub rice for shirazi salad (no oil on both) but sometimes I opt for the chicken baarg. I don't eat the bread but I do love snacking on the feta / walnut combination as my app. I wake up feeling great after I eat here. It also tastes like something my late wife would make for me. The stand outs at the bar are Jeremy, Kaitlyn, and Alex. I have to admit, I forgot about Alex until she reminded me last night (oops! ;) Having said that, if it wasn't for these 3, I wouldn't come here as often. And that's why it gets 4 stars vs 5. I'm not sure how often other patrons frequent the establishment, but the staff/mgt should recognize someone who comes often and act accordingly. That's my only feedback. Otherwise, I love it! I post videos and pics of my favorite restaurants on my IG Ish.in.houston

From generous portions to amazing naan bread I love love coming here. Their cherry rice is just top tier here and it goes so well. I had never had cherry rice before coming here and I'm hooked!. From the pictures you can see its quite a generous portions of rice so you'll be pretty full by the end of it. Kabobs beef/chicken, always extremely fresh, juicy, and rich in flavor. Hummus with the complimentary naan goes so well together I've came back year after years and am happy to report that their quality has remained the same. It's the kind of spot that works just as well for a casual dinner as it does for a relaxed night out with friends or family. We started off with the lentil soup, which was comforting and flavorful--light yet satisfying, with a nice balance of spices. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and elevated even more by the complimentary fresh bread, which came out warm and perfectly baked--easily one of the highlights of the meal. For mains, the Koobideh Combination stole the show. The kababs were juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly, with that classic smoky flavor that makes Persian kabobs so good. Definitely the standout dish and a must-order. The Salmon & Chicken combo was equally impressive--both proteins were tender, nicely grilled, and paired beautifully with the saffron rice and grilled vegetables, giving you a great mix of flavors and textures. We also tried the Soujuk & Cheese Lahmajun, which added a nice twist to the meal. It had a crispy base with rich, savory toppings, and the cheese brought everything together really well--great for sharing. Avesta is a solid go-to for Persian cuisine in Houston. Between the quality of the kababs, fresh bread, and overall flavor, everything hit the mark. Pair that with the great atmosphere and welcoming staff, and it's definitely a place worth coming back to

We were just told to sit down, only on the right side of the dining area. Thought they would bring out the food. They rang a bell and called out a number. I looked at my receipt, saw the number and told my husband that we had to pick it up. It looks like a full service restaurant, but it's not. My husband walked up to the cashier's counter, expecting the order. The cashier pointed him to the other dining area. It was just placed on top of the food case, no counter. Someone verified it was our order before he took it. I'm short and if I were picking up a bowl of their lentil soup and can't see if the soup is level, there could be a spill. The lamb shank was good, but we had to ask for the sauce that normally comes with it. She brought it. The butter was melted, so dripped over the rice easily. I guess it was too much to ask that the bread plate include feta cheese like at other Persian restaurants. I don't recommend coming in late as the bread was very hard. Dipping it in the sauce helped.

I did not know any local families and so, my dining experiences were limited to the offering in the local restaurants. They say that the best Iranian cooking is always going to be in the homes. Thus, I did not get an idea of the breadth and variety of Iranian cuisine. The places that I dined at were very utilitarian. Simple dishes of perfectly grilled meats and perfectly cooked rice and flat breads. Delicious. But simple fare for the office worker taking a break for lunch. And I loved the purity of these simple kabab dishes. The chelo kabab, chenjeh, juju, kubideh, vaziri, negini. Darband opened in Houston in 1986. And it has been one of my favorite places to eat, now going on almost 30 years. I getting an order of kubideh with grilled tomatoes on the side. And I love to dump a big old heaping of the spice known as sumac on my kabob. Now, don't worry about not knowing what is what. Darband has photos of all of their dishes to make it easy for you to order. First timers may want to opt for a simple chelo kabab with bread. The Darband. The name comes from a place near Tehran. Near to the mountains. And the weather is nice there. This makes it a perfect place for people of the town to go there for walks and picnics -- at Darband Shish kabob. If you order the chelo kebab, it may put a big smile on your face. It is good. But also, be sure to try the home made soup. Ash-e Reshteh gets my vote for being the healthiest soup in the world. Chickpeas, navy beans, red kidney beans, green lentils, beets, spinach, parsley and dill make up the vegetables and greens in this soup, to which are added the Persian noodles called reshteh and a thick and salty liquid whey called kashk. Noodles have a special significance during the Iranian New Year, symbolizing the unraveling of difficulties in the year to come.
