Where to begin. The restaurant went above and beyond my expectations. The PERFECT date night spot. As someone who has never tried Persian food, the server guided us along the way by providing personal recommendations, while also recommending dishes based off of proteins we stated we liked. The Honest Woman mocktail is a tasty option for those who do not drink, or want to take a break from alcohol. The Charred Tomato Labneh appetizer was to die for, I have craved it everyday since trying it! The Rumi's salad was very refreshing as well. The Shish Kabob and Lamb Chops were the highlights of the night! Huge portions, especially after filling up so much on the delicious appetizers. If I could I would rate this spot a solid 4.5. I've heard so much about Rumi's and finally had a chance to stop by recently. For parking you can either do complimentary valet or park yourself in the garage. I would definitely recommend making a reservation because the entire restaurant was packed and with a pretty large group of people waiting for tables at the front. Luckily, we were seated right on time. For drinks we tried a few cocktails which were all pretty solid. The cocktail menu actually ranges from milder to stronger drinks left to right. They also provide complimentary flat bread that comes with some walnuts, cheese, and herbs. Our server went through the menu with us and we actually were eyeing most of her recs so it worked out well. Mirza Ghasemi (smoked eggplant dip): 4.5/5 if you love eggplant or baba ganoush this dish is a must. Roasted tomato labneh: 4/5 the labneh was so smooth and not too tart, paired so well w the tomatoes Lamb rubs: 4.5/5 these were seasoned perfectly and fell off the bone. Good alternative to lamb chops Soltani Kabob: 4/5 this comes with both a tenderloin and kabob, I preferred the tenderloin more but they were both great and the portion was huge Overall, I had a great meal here. Service was very attentive and even though they had a packed house the food came out quickly. It's also a very beautiful restaurant as well. My only minor complaint is that the tables are pretty tight and that does take away from the ambiance of the restaurant. Rumi's Kitchen delivers on flavor and atmosphere. The space is clean, inviting, and perfect for groups. We came with a big party and ordered a variety of appetizers. Every single one was fresh, flavorful, and honestly the best part of the meal. You can tell they really take their time with those dishes. The main courses were good, but I've had better Persian mixed grills elsewhere in Houston. Still, everything was cooked well and presented nicely. Just not the standout for me. But if there's one thing you absolutely have to try, it's the Persian saffron ice cream. It's light, floral, and refreshing. I don't even know how to explain it properly. I've heard of Rumi's over and over again through words of mouth, and finally got the chance to try it. Love love love the beautiful decor, elevated ambiance, and yet they don't skimp on their portions. You can definitely order a bunch of appetizers and feel satisfied, especially with their complimentary bread service. I heavily relied on the raw vegetables and cheese from the bread service to clean my palate throughout the meal. Highly recommend the lamb tartare for more adventurous eater. I've never had lamb tartare before, but this was very very rich and creamy, and as you can see, a good amount to share. Otherwise, I also recommend the smoked eggplant and mushroom hummus. Both had a very nice aroma and distinctive flavors. You can taste the smoked eggplants, and the roasted mushrooms added a nice crunch to the hummus. The shish kabob didn't land as well for me as the appetizers. The filet was very tender, but I noticed a bit of a smell to the meat. The charred vegetables and citrusy red powder condiment on the side (sumac?) quickly came to rescue. Big fan of the sumac powder which adds a bit of zing to the dish. The rice with fava beans was also very very good, highly suggest swapping out white rice with the other rices they offer. The beans and dill added so much flavor and texture which was a lot of fun. Knafeh was ok for me. It was heavy top layer with not a lot of cheese, and the top layer was more on the softer side instead of crunchy. Went here for a recent group dinner. We had a pre-set menu that was served family style. This was great as it allowed me to try a lot of different menu items. We started with some appetizers (including a hummus with mushrooms and Lamb ribs) and then had our main course (Sea Bass, Chicken and Lamb with sides of rice, veggies and potatoes) followed by dessert. The dessert was small and was served to share but that was okay because by the time it came everyone was so stuffed from all the earlier food that they barely had room for dessert. read more

After hearing about the ambience and flavors this upscale Persian restaurant has to offer, I figured why not? For starters, the crispy potatoes and cremini mushroom hummus are by far one of the best appetizers I have had in a long time. The sweeter cocktails pair well with the bold flavors each dish has to offer. The chicken barg was recommended by our waiter which turned out to be surprisingly moist. The lamb shank was cooked perfectly and easily fell off the bone. To end the dinner, our kind waiter brought out a sweet surprise dessert for our birthday, which was a rich chocolate pudding topped with salt and olive oil. All in all, would I come back? Yes! I was oddly surprised to see how busy this restaurant was on a late Tuesday afternoon but it seems like I underestimated its popularity. We got there around 5pm and even without a reservation, they were able to sit us in the covered patio section. The restaurant is quite spacious, with the bar to the right of the entrance, and the dining to the left. The patio was straight ahead and was beautiful!!! I wish I could have captured more pictures but it was too busy and I didn't want to be in anyone's way. Our waitress came over with the menus and gave us some recommendations. My friend got the ribs to start, and I of course went with the mushroom hummus. For our entree, we both chose the salmon dish with basmati rice (the picture was from when the order first came with the wrong rice). I also ordered the Poor Translation mocktail. Wow! I came with a couple of friends on a Monday and was pleasantly surprised. As soon as we walked in, I was shocked at how busy it was for a Monday night. The restaurant is so beautiful and definitely feels upscale. We were sat promptly and our server was great, so friendly and attentive. I had the Labne Charred Tomato to start and for my entree I ordered the Soltani Kabob. They were both delicious! I also ordered the Makhloud for dessert which was different for sure. We ordered two different humus, olives, grape leaves, and various kabobs and rice mixture, and a few drinks. The only negative thing I can say that it was kind of dark, lots of dimmed lights. We went for dinner with a 2 other couples, and I honestly didn't know where it was located because I hadn't been there before. I read a fellow friend's yelp review (whom I was joining for dinner, lol, shout out to Maggi) that I needed to look for an "R" at the top to locate the door/entrance. It's right next to Uchi! Had my first experience at Rumi's today for a business lunch. I think the restaurant's decor was gorgeous, but the location was tucked away in front of the complex with little signage to show you where it is... Parking is also an issue if you don't valet - be prepared to park on the top floor in the garage. Our appetizer dishes were great - it was the yogurt spread and the eggplant dip. Both were fresh and yummy. The cheese & veggies plate was kinda sad -- we had 4 people and they provided a tiny cube of cheese... For entree, I had the duck, which was okay. The duck was tender, but the gravy/sauce was way too sour to allow for any taste of the sweetness of the duck to come through. I know the sauce would have pomegranate, but it felt more like full-blown lime juice or vinegar-based sauce. Additionally, service was extremely slow. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is delicious. It's a place I recommend to my friends if they want upscale Persian/Mediterranean cuisine. It's located in Galleria area right next to Uchiko. The entrance was not obvious to me as the full name is not written on the door if you're coming from the parking garage so got a bit lost for a minute. The exterior has a Restoration Hardware feel with a gigantic arched door and the letter "r" on top, very minimal, but that's the only minimal part of it, the interior is stunningi. I came for a baby shower that was hosted by the parents to be and it was held in the private room right next to the bar. The room is decked out in floor to celling arched windows and beautiful chandeliers strung from the tall ceilings, it was really beautiful especially during the day with ample sunlight hitting the room. It was a set menu with all the fixings: Labne Charred tomatos, corn rib, lamb hummus, Oyster Mushroom, Kashk Badenjoon, roasted cauliflower and a platter of grilled meats: chicken, salmon, beef and lamb. All the meats were extremely tender. This was one of the best meals I've had in a while. I didn't even pick the menu and I loved everything! I'm not going to lie I was obsessed with the olives that hey had it was so good with a good tang and crunch! If you're looking for a cute date night spot, birthday celebration, or just good food this is the place. We ordered a wide variety of appetizers and hands down my favorite were the marinated olives. I could've eaten that as a meal in itself. We ordered the Lahmacuan lamb and it was delicious but definitely felt like it could've used more flavor but once dipped in the yogurt sauce or eaten with the olives it balanced out. We ordered eggplant which I thought was good but not out of this world. Cauliflower which was delish ! For main meal I got the Gormeh sabzi and duck fessenjoon. The bitterness of the sabzi was balanced out with the sweet and tart taste of the duck. I would definitely come back here again. However one thing I would warn about is that it is LOUD. We could barely hear ourselves talk. Ontop of that it took them 45-1hr to seat us even with a reservation. What I would suggest to management is if you're going to charge $31 for a 5 piece chicken skewer at least make sure your cooks don't overcook them and send out dry overcooked chicken. The vibe is modern and fresh--loved the light fixtures, the open, spacious feel, and the stylish but relaxed energy. The food was the real star. The fresh bread with feta spread (complimentary!) was delicious. We shared the lamb chops and labne with charred tomato as apps -- very good. I went with the chicken barg for lunch, and it was perfectly juicy, flavorful, and such a generous portion that I had plenty left for another meal. You can substitute the rice for veggies if you want a lower carb lunch...but I indulged in the saffron rice. Overall, a fantastic experience. Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. We didn't have reservations so it would have been an hour wait but the bar is full service and we were able to get the last 2 seats open at the bar. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful! It's very romantic and the music is at the perfect volume and sets the perfect tone. We ordered several things and everything came out SO fast despite how crowded it was. My friend loved everything. There were a couple things I didn't care for but that's just because of my personal tastes and of how many different things we ordered there were bound to be a few that weren't my personal favorites. The lamb ribs and cauliflower loved. They were soooo good! The Kunefe we ordered for dessert was truly one of the best desserts I've ever had in my entire life. Outstanding. I have been wanting to come here for so long and finally did this year for my birthday. First of all, the restaurant is gorgeous. Looks straight out of restoration hardware. The service is amazing. Everyone who works here is so nice and accommodating. Our waitress was so sweet. I got the espresso martini which was delicious. I'm seriously an espresso martini connoisseur and this was 11/10. We started with the lamb hummus, which was insane. Drooling thinking about it now. We also got the wings to start out with as well, which are some of my favorite in persian cuisine. I got the koobideh and split it with my mom. It was very flavorful and authentic. Could've been a littleee more juicier and tender, still super tasty though. My step dad got the chicken kebab which was fantastic. We got a toffee cake dessert which was out of this world. The waitress even gave us complimentary persian ice cream sandwhiches which I loved. If you do not like rose water you will not like it, however, I knew I would. 3.5 stars I visited here for a Valentine's dinner, and the atmosphere was great--though understandably a bit crowded. We had made reservations and pre-paid for the prix fixe 5-course menu. The food was good, but not extraordinary--nothing to complain about, but also not mind-blowing. We were accidentally served our fourth course instead of our second, and it looked like the table next to us had a similar mix-up. We were also served still water after confirming that we wanted sparkling. Both were fixed, but the service seemed a bit chaotic. We were both satisfied and full after the meal. I tried pistachio preserve for the first time (course 4) and really enjoyed the Persian ice cream dessert. Also appreciated the free option for sparkling instead of still water. It's slowly become one of my favorite restaurants in Houston, especially for a celebratory dinner or date night. I went there when they first opened and most recently again for an early bday dinner... My go-tos have become the charred tomatoes over labneh and the smoked eggplant (mirza ghasemi). Those are MUSTS to start with. I also love, love, LOVE the Chilean sea bass and chicken kebab plate. Note that the entrees are HUGE, so I encourage sharing an entree and 1 to 2 apps (per couple) max. If you come at a peak time, expect at least a 15m wait in your car that stretches onto the right lane of Post Oak. High-end ambiance. Restaurant was packed. We had a reservation but still waited about 15-20m. The hosts were not the most courteous but once we sat, our waitress was prob top 5 waitresses I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I wish I remembered her name but she was great! As for the food, pretty great. I wouldn't say everything was top notch but the stuff that was, I'd definitely go back for. Tastes (appetizers) - Lamb Ribs - 5/5 delicious, seasoned rub on the outside is packed with flavor. Tender and juicy. - Mushroom Hummus - 4/5 smoky. Loved the texture the mushrooms added. - Labne with Charred Tomatoes - 5/5 creamy, seasoned to perfection, would definitely order again. Pick a tomato, some labne and pinch it with some of the pita bread = happiness sandwich. - Kashke Bademjoon - 5/5 eggplant dish my grandfather loved growing up so I was thrilled they serve it here. Probably my favorite appetizer. - Dolmeh - 4/5 I've actually never been a dolmeh fan but this was really quite good. It comes with 5. - Rumi's Chicken Wings - 3/5 these weren't bad at all but didn't stand out like the others. The hot sauce was fire though. Literally. Pretty spicy. But I did quite like it. Feasts (mains) - Chilean Sea bass - 5/5 I have mixed feelings to say this was one of the best things at the restaurant going to a Persian restaurant that specializes in Kebabs but it really was delicious. Cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. Our whole table voted it the winner. - Chicken Barg - 3/5 definition of mid - Lamb kebab - 3/5 decent flavor but dry. Disappointing on this one Technically, I'd give the whole experience 4.5 Stars because of the terrible valet service - which honestly I wouldn't really fault the restaurant for because of the infrastructure of the area. Rounded up cause everything else was great. - The Soltani - 5/5 tenderloin and kubideh were delicious, juicy and seasoned just right. - Wagyu Kebab - 4/5 this was very good but the ends were charred a bit too much so all I tasted was burnt meat at the ends. The non-burnt parts were great though. - Duck Fesenjoon - 3/5 traditional, Persian dish that is probably an acquired taste. Half our table wasn't feeling it and half liked it. So it really is different. If you're feeling adventurous might be worth a try. Side of Torshii - pickled vegetables. very traditional to have with your meal in Iran. It is not like a typical pickle though. Much more sour. "Torsh" means sour in Persian. Desserts - chocolate mousse with olive oil - 4/5 yummy. Rich. Salt bits added depth. - Kunefe - 5/5 would highly recommend this because if you've never had it, it's unlike any other dessert you've had. Savory, sweet, salty. Texturally interesting. Delicious. Overall, looking forward to going back, though I don't think I'll plan my next visit here at a peak time. And now I know what they do okay and what they do exceptionally. read more

Three words...Rumi's Kitchen Brunch!! Got a nice invitation to enjoy a brunch on opening weekend for Rumi's Kitchen Brunch. Already a fan as we had started the year with on New Year's Day enjoying a family meal here. But.... This is a fantastic place for brunch. Started with the lamb hummus, lamb ribs and falafel. So good. Could have actually stopped here because they were all amazing. The Lamb Ribs are marinated in the most delicious grape molasses glaze. Served with a crunchy kohlrabi salad, it is a must especially if you love lamb! We are picky with falafel as my father-in-law's restaurant was the best in Houston for many decades. The falafel here is fantastic. The falafel is served so beautifully with torshi, pickled beets, hummus, tabbouleh and tahini. The lamb hummus is such a delicious contrast in flavors. Ask for crisp cucumber slices for a fresh way to dip into the hummus. On the brunch menu, get the shakshuka. Eggs poached in a tomato and pepper sauce with cilantro. Yummy! The Turkish fried eggs served on a bed of labne, spinach, and chili oil was another great brunch item. We also feasted on the rack of lamb, Chilean sea bass, chicken barg and the gheymeh, a stew of beef, split chickpea, and dried limes served with a crispy potato tahdeeg. Definitely mix and match the rice. Favorites are the baghali with fava bean & dill and the adas with lentil & raisins. The albaloo is such a beautiful pink rice filled with sour cherries. Be careful of the pits. Service was amazing. Our table was perfect. Our glasses were always full of sparkling water. Thanks to Jahlia for the wonderful recommendations and the saffron infused pistachios as a gift to end an amazing meal. Chicken barg - 9/10 - $32 - Delicious, chicken was tender and juicy, rice was soft and fresh Dolmeh - 8/10 - $15 - Tried this for the first time, it was filled with minced beef and was flavorful Rumis is a Persian restaurant with only certain menu items that are halal. I heard mixed things about this restaurant but I think it honestly depends on what you get. I really liked the chicken barg and would probably go back to try their brunch. I loved the ambiance and they offer complimentary valet. Keep in mind though, this is a more upscale restaurant so prices are high. read more

I've dined at this restaurant several times and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It's an upscale spot and a great place to introduce someone to Persian cuisine for the first time. Unfortunately, our recent visit was disappointing. We came to celebrate a friend's birthday with a group of 8 adults and 2 young children (both under the age of 6). To our surprise, we were told that for a party of 10, we would be required to spend $130 per person--including the kids. That's a steep minimum, especially considering that most entrées are around $40, and the children wouldn't be eating more than a few bites. We asked to speak with a manager, and the server returned to tell us they could reduce it to $100 per person. While that's better, it still didn't make sense for a group with small children, or even for adults if you're not planning to order drinks or appetizers on top of an entrée. Unfortunately, we had to leave and take our celebration elsewhere. It's disappointing that a place I've enjoyed before lost a loyal group of customers over such an inflexible and unreasonable policy. I hope they reconsider how they apply these minimums in the future. read more
