Love being able to support a local Greek business. Athena's Mediterranean Kitchen was such a wonderful surprise, and I honestly wish I had tried this place sooner! As a Greek woman who grew up eating Greek food at home, I can definitely be a little picky when it comes to Mediterranean restaurants, but Athena's truly impressed me. The chicken was marinated beautifully and full of flavor, and the Greek potatoes were absolutely delicious and tasted very authentic. You can tell there's real care put into the food here. The only small notes for me were the garlic hummus and the tzatziki sauce. I personally felt the hummus could have had a bit more depth of flavor, and the tzatziki wasn't my favorite, but everything else more than made up for it. The service made the experience even better. Doriska was our server and she was the sweetest! She was so warm and attentive, and she even surprised us with a complimentary dessert that was absolutely delicious and such a thoughtful touch. Overall, my experience was truly a 10/10. The staff were incredibly pleasant, the atmosphere felt welcoming, and the food was flavorful and comforting. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying more dishes on the menu. So happy we finally tried this spot ,we'll definitely be back!

Nut allergy friendly: Servers were pretty attentive about things, the complimentary bread has no nuts, there are definitely some desserts with nuts like the baklava. The meal is very carb-heavy otherwise, so come with an appetite! Order-to-Entree: 30 Minutes, side salad was brought out in about 15 minutes We came with a group of five around noon on a Thursday and it was pretty full. Thankfully they have overflow parking next to the gas station, because their little parking lot was quite packed. It feels like a large diner inside, with a TV playing Greek music and a lot of Mediterranean decor. Delicious herb-garlic bread was brought out as a complimentary starter to the meal. I sampled a bit of my coworker's falafel (5/5, looks funny but amazingly spiced and great texture) and escargot (4/5, a bit pricey but very rich pieces of escargot that pair very well with the butter and bread). I ordered the pastitsio (5/5) with a side of Briami (3.5/5). The side salad was very refreshing with an herb-cream dressing. The pastitsio was a lot larger than I gave it credit for, and I was able to bring home 1/4 of it as leftovers. The pastitsio was very well balanced with a fluffy top and delicious pasta-meat sauce bottom. The Briami was a bit intense for me and I think it could have benefitted from smaller pieces on the vegetables, but it was also quite good. Several of my colleagues ordered the Greek fajitas or a gyro and most also took home some leftovers. It's definitely in my top Mediterranean spots in Houston and probably the best Greek food I've had in the city. Would definitely recommend the Greek specialties here!

Friendly service. Cite and homey on the inside. Efficient. Warm pita. What more could you ask for? I ordered the classic gyro with the Greek potatoes. The portions are generous and filling. Great place for a quick lunch.

The octopus was worth the drive out here!!! The service is literally impeccable. I brought a coworker here for lunch and she was blown away by the food and the service. She even complimented the decore down to the flowers! Great atmosphere! Highly recommend for lunch or dinner!!!

We came here during their last hour after being picked up from the airport (IAH). They treated us warmly and my parents in laws, my husband and I really enjoyed it. I was extremely tired but I would come again. The garlic bread was flavorful and crispy. My gyro plate was a good pick me up. But I felt that the meat was just a bit too crispy. The cheese appetizer is called saganaki. I recommend everyone for this one. They do light it on fire which is fun to see and the cheesy goodness is so good. Our waitress was Doriska. She was very kind and quick. She didn't make us feel rushed at all. Since it was our first time here, they gave us a small surprise. You'll have to come try them out to find out what it is. :) Overall, great service and food. I look forward for next time and try other dishes.

Last night we had a birthday party for the family matriarch who turned 80 years old. Athena's Greek Kitchen was the perfect spot. Maria took great care of us, and I have to say that every staff member was attentive and helpful. Since we had a big group, we got quite a variety of dishes, including octopus, mixed seafood pasta special, moussaka, beef kebab, chicken kebab, lamb shank, and lamb chops. Everything was delicious, including red and white Greek wine. When it was time for dessert, Maria brought out a big tray with an assortment that included chocolate baklava, walnut cake, lemon squares, and a couple of other items. Every single person in the room joined in singing, happy birthday. So everyone had a wonderful time.

If you're looking for an experience that goes beyond just a meal, Athena's Greek Kitchen is the place. From the moment we walked in, the warmth and hospitality made us feel like we were visiting family, not a restaurant. We started with the octopus as our appetizer, and I have to say, I've never had octopus like that in my life. It was marinated so well and packed with flavor, an absolute standout dish that set the tone for the entire evening. For our mains, we ordered the Lamb Shank and Lamb Chops combo and the Mediterranean Ribs, with sides of potatoes, rice, and spinach. The food was simply amazing, every dish was hearty, perfectly seasoned, and made with obvious care. I'd never tried Greek wine before, but both the red and white were incredibly smooth and paired beautifully with everything we ate. I'll definitely be seeking out Greek wine again! We couldn't leave without trying dessert. The hot Greek custard was absolutely amazing, warm, creamy, and the perfect way to end the meal. The orange and walnut cake looked so good we took one home, and it did not disappoint! What really made the night special, though, was the atmosphere and the people. The entire staff was so welcoming that it genuinely felt like sitting down at my aunt's house. That kind of warmth is rare and something you just can't fake. Athena's Greek Kitchen delivered an out-of-this-world experience from start to finish. We will absolutely be back!

I've heard so many friends rave about Athena's and never had the chance to go to until recently. I can't believe it took me this long to give it a try because it was an amazing experience from the service to the food to the homey atmosphere. Miss Maria and her staff are so welcoming and make you feel right at home. After mulling over the extensive menu with amazing dishes, I decided on the Rainbow Trout with Greek Potatoes and a side of Tzatziki sauce. The fish was seasoned with a blend of Greek herbs, lemon, and olive oil. The potato came in 2 quarter slices, and it comes with a slice of melon on the side. It was a generous amount of food that came out to be 2 meals for me. The dish was amazing, and I can't wait to try other items on the menu. You can tell they have a passion for what they do at Athena's because the experience is like no other. It's not very often that I can say the owner makes an effort to get to know you and makes sure you feel at home. I absolutely loved my time here and will definitely be back.

Always a great experience at Athena's. This visit we decided to try a few new items, but the classics were a hit as always (fried cheese and soup). The meatballs were very delicious as well as the sauce it came with. The pork kabobs were the first thing on the menu that didn't blow me away. They were a little dry and I had to dip it in the sauce at the bottom to taste it. However staff is always on top of things, friendly, and quick. Always worth it.

If you want to feel at home while eating amazing food, this is the place. Recently went again for my birthday dinner with the family. My son has many opinions & thinks he knows good food - even after we'd ordered he was talking about another place with 'great Greek food.' I didn't disagree but said, I think you will enjoy this too. Once the food arrived, his entire demeanor changed - yes, he said, this is exceptional. And they have some great wines to boot!

We brought our mother here for a birthday dinner and we left feeling like the entire staff also celebrated her birthday. Larger group that we had 8 adults with some babies as well, and they did everything they could possibly do to make sure we were comfy. Our server was eloquent and energetic, this same level of care that I'd normally see at a restaurant that's vying for Michelin recognition. They sang happy birthday and threw plates and napkins as part of the show. Owner sent us home with a whole tray of fresh made baklava, just because we hadn't tried her's before, and that was on top of giving us a couple of plates of her special lemon cake. Experiences like these are why people take their families out to restaurants in their first place. We had a wonderful time! The menu probably has a little bit of everything Greek or Mediterranean that you might be hungry for, or not even know that you're hungry for. With a larger group I was trying to make sure we got the staples and enough for everyone. Our server was able to help us get a family style meal together that worked out perfectly. We had red snapper, lamb, beef&chicken skewers, and the house special spanakopita was just terrific. All the flavors felt really authentic to this American and you could tell there's a passion in all facets of the business. This isn't the gaudiest, see and be seen, restaurant in Houston, but I think very few businesses are doing it like they do it at Athena.

The brisket on the other hand was a little dry and I wish it had more flavor, but the sauce made up for it. We also got the Mac n cheese with brisket on top. They really did not skimp out on the brisket. It was very delicious and the Mac n cheese was perfectly creamy and decadent. They also pickles, pickled jalapeño, and onions on the side which really cut the fat from the meat. The coleslaw that we got was okay though. Overall, it was a great experience. All the employees were nice and patient with us since it was our first time here and we had some questions. The vibes were definitely there. Will def stop by here if we ever go to Texas again!!

The place is new but not recently new, so I was impress that they were still attracting a crowd. The place was packed and busy but the host was still able to seat us immediately. With reservation, of course. Our seat was a banquet seating and when the host directed us to our table, we notice the party seated next to our table had placed all their personal belongings on our seats. We had to ask the host to ask them to remove their personals so that we can sit down. I felt that the host should have done that and not upon our request. Our server was Keamogetswe and she jumped right into explaining the menu since it was our first time. I am used to ordering drinks first and while waiting for our drinks, explore the food menu. That way, we can ask questions about any item we were unfamiliar with on the menu. Anyways, we ordered our food and they came out very fast. For starters, we had the grilled shrimp which was just two shrimps. They were not prawns so the size of the two shrimps for $18 was not worth it to me. We also tried the Rumi's wings. They were average to me. Nothing to brag about. For the main course, we wanted to try several dishes and settle for a family style meal. We had the braised lamb shank, chicken kabob and the Koobideh Kabob. Since all plates came with rice, Keamogetswe suggest we try different rice options which was a great suggestion. So for the rice, we had the Adas, the Baghali and the Shirin. I have to admit that the braised lamb was amazing. The stew it sat in was very flavorful and the meat melted off the bone it came with. The Koobideh was also another favorite of mine. Both, I highly recommend everyone to try. And my favorite rice was the Shirin. As we moved on to dessert, we had the burnt honey & pistachio cake and the persian ice cream sandwich. Both taste great but the persian ice cream sandwich itself was vanilla wafer. Different but it made it easier to eat with your fingers. The weird thing was when the dessert was served to us, so was the check. I am used to us eating dessert or just starting to enjoy dessert before being handed the check. And when they do hand me the check, they would mention that it was no rush and when I am ready to take care of it. But that didn't happen and I decided to get it out of the way so I can just enjoy the dessert. As we were conversing and finishing our drinks, they started to clear our table and even picked up the signed check or tab. It felt like they were hinting us to get up. I feel that if there was a time frame to dine with them, they should have made us aware of it before dinner or when we made reservation like how Toca Madera does. So that made me feel uncomfortable. But this could just be me.

On my last visit, I had the Lychee Ceviche, Barrah Kebab, Mushroom Khichdi (highly recommend), Dal Musaafar (also a must-order), Laal Maas, Lamb Chop Sulfiyan Biryani, and Brussel Sprouts -- so I already had a strong impression of how layered and ambitious the menu could be coming into this meal. This time around, the experience felt even more intentional -- not just in individual dishes, but in how everything was meant to be combined. The Paani Puri was easily the most fun dish of the night. Each puri came filled with spiced potato and chickpeas, paired with a lineup of flavored waters -- Yogurt Chili, Passion Fruit, Guava, Mango, and Traditional Tamarind. We ended up tasting the waters individually first, then building our own combinations. The tamarind was smoky and nostalgic, while the guava leaned especially exotic, and the passion fruit came in as a close second with its bright tropical notes. I also tried mixing the traditional tamarind with mango, which oddly created a more Hispanic-leaning flavor profile -- sweet, tangy, and super familiar in a completely different way. The passion fruit + guava combination ended up being my favorite overall. It was so light, refreshing, and interactive that we immediately ordered another round. Mithu's Coriander Shrimp was my favorite savory dish of the night. The shrimp sat in a coconut-based curry that had this mellow, toasted depth that reminded me a lot of Vietnamese chicken curry -- warm, aromatic, and comforting without being heavy. The bread soaked up the sauce perfectly, but what really made this dish stand out was how well it paired with everything else. When combined with the Chicken Tandoori Kulcha and its butters, it genuinely elevated both dishes and created one of the best bites of the entire meal. The Chicken Tandoori Kulcha came stuffed with spiced chicken and served with Kashmiri butter and fenugreek butter. On its own, it was already a buttery flavor bomb -- rich, slightly spicy, and incredibly aromatic. The Kashmiri butter brought warmth and heat, while the fenugreek butter added a refreshing, almost yogurt-like herbal note. But the real move was layering the coriander shrimp curry onto the kulcha -- that combination balanced the spice and added depth, making the dish significantly better. The Malwani Fish Curry featured unbelievably tender sea bass -- I compared it to silken tofu, almost like the filet mignon of fish. The curry itself was coconut-based with kokum, which gave it a citrusy, slightly sour edge. While I appreciated how regional and complex it felt, it leaned a bit too citrus-forward for my personal taste when eaten alone. That said, it completely transformed when mixed with rice or the biryani -- creating this incredibly cohesive, flavorful bowl that balanced everything out. The Jackfruit Kolkota Biryani was one of the dishes I was most curious about, and it delivered in a really interesting way. The jackfruit had a texture surprisingly close to meat -- similar to chicken or pork but softer -- and absorbed the spices incredibly well. The rice itself was extremely aromatic, layered with saffron, rose, and warm spices. Like many dishes here, it really shone when combined with the fish curry or dal, which added richness to the overall dish. The Daal Musaafar continues to be one of the most reliable standouts here. It's a 72-hour slow-cooked black lentil dish that comes out incredibly creamy, buttery, and rich. This time, it felt slightly saltier and a bit less creamy than I remembered, but once mixed, it balanced out nicely. It's still one of those dishes I would come back for on its own -- comforting, indulgent, and consistently one of the best things on the menu. The Nimbu Naan was thinner than the bullet naan I had on my previous visit, but that actually worked in its favor. The lemony brightness cut through the richness of the meal and made it the perfect supporting piece for soaking up dal, curry, and biryani. It added a refreshing contrast rather than just being a filler carb. The Pour Me a Slice cocktail -- winner of Truffle Masters 2026 -- was exactly as advertised. It's a truffle fat-washed rum drink designed to taste like a margarita pizza, and somehow... it really does. The savory notes, herbs, and slight cheese element came through in a way that was bizarre but incredibly accurate. Not something I'd drink every day, but easily one of the most memorable concept cocktails I've had. Despite it being Mother's Day and the restaurant running at full capacity, our waiter, Justin (with six years of experience), curated an incredibly smooth and thoughtful experience for us. Our first dish, the Paani Puri, came out in 10 minutes. My favorite paani was the tamarind, followed by the passion fruit, yogurt, and then guava and mango. I thought the guava was a bit bland at first but it really worked well in the Puri. It took about ~30 minutes for appetizers to come out. Mithu's Coriander Shrimp (4/5): It reminds me a lot of Vietnamese / Thai curry. It's a bit pricey, but would recommend trying it. The sauce went really well with naan. Tandoori Chicken Kulcha (4/5): Delicious filling. The Kashmiri butter and fenugreek butter were very unique to melt on and add flavors. We actually had the most fun dipping the Kulcha in the shrimp sauce (4.5/5 combo haha) Entrees came out at ~50 minutes. Malwani Fish Curry (4.5/5) Inspired by West india and an incredibly tender piece of cod. The curry was very citrus forward and went excellently with naan and biryani rice. Dal Musaafer (5/5) Still fantastic, smoky, and complex. I'll get this every time we come. Jackfruit Biryani (3/5): A surprisingly good replacement texture for chicken, but I felt that it was missing the complexity of the lamb chop biryani. Nimbu Naan (4/5): Comes with three pieces and has a nice lemony flavor. I think I prefer the spice of the bullet naan. We also tried the "Pour me a Slice" cocktail, which was really a unique experience of drinking a pizza. Seriously, you can barely taste alcohol here. It's a truffle award winner but the truffle really comes out as a lingering flavor. It's really like a margarita pizza. Paid with inKind with no issues again. Another really fun experience here!

He said it was "a better choice" and that they were out of tallarines. I told him clearly that I did not want lomo saltado, but he kept insisting, so I just took it to avoid arguing. When we got home, the real problem started -- both chickens were undercooked, tough, and hard to chew. It was so bad that I told my kids and family not to eat any of it, and I ended up throwing everything in the trash. I paid good money for this meal, and we didn't get to eat at all. Changing an order without consent and serving raw chicken is not acceptable. I won't be coming back.

Now that they've sufficiently blown up around NYC, I was a bit shocked (and excited) to see them finally come to H-Town. What's the verdict? It's good enough to pass muster for NY standards (#1), is open super late, and will likely be my go-to Halal food for the foreseeable future. Since I've only had it in cart form, I'm still a buggin over the fact it's become a franchise. It's similar to my shock of eating Halal Guys at a store for the first time. The digs feel as foreign (prices, large, clean and bright interior) as it does familiar (taste, logo, etc.). Even though I had a laugh seeing the wall photo-mural of a Shah's cart in Times Square, I did appreciate the nod to Ozone Park with the 121st & Liberty street signs. The chicken + lamb combo platter ($12) is and always will be the winner. The lamb had the same kind of seasoning that most Halal spots out here try to replicate but can never get right. The rice was fluffy, and the white sauce was easily the highlight. I can understand why they've decided to bottle it up and sell it as liquid gold. It makes every meal better. Kofta ($12) and chapli ($13) are rarely my favorites, but I knew I had both in platter form. The addition of adding chickpeas and these other salads is not something I'm used to from the carts (#2) but I loved the fact it was drowned in the white sauce with a dash of hot sauce. The latter is supposedly extremely hot, but I didn't find it that spicy. While I have to say the cheeseburger was a bit of a disappointment (overly bready, thin patty), the pakora chips and french fries were fabulous. They were perfectly seasoned, had a nice crisp, and frankly would be an excellent, gut-busting addition to any platter. I don't love the extra charge, but I hope they remain consistent with it. This store location in Westchase along Westheimer is an up and coming part of town. There are numerous Middle Eastern businesses in the adjacent area, along with an abundance of parking spots and a good amount of late night activity. Service was friendly but I do hope they keep their standards up. As time goes on, I'm 100% convinced this will be a destination for the many late night meal seekers and fans of NY nostaligia. __________ (#1) Which automatically supersedes a lot of the ones here in Houston. The Uyghur goshnaan was very crispy and the filling was flavorful and juicy, good lamb flavor and nice spices. The Uyghur polo with lamb shank was great and the pilaf had a nice sweetness with raisins that cut through some of the fatty richness of the lamb. The korma chop was also super flavorful with a nice savory sauce and noodled with an excellent texture, very QQ. I don't usually order cucumbers at Asian restaurants cause I can make a cucumber salad pretty easily at home but the one here was very good. Excellent refreshing crunch and garlic flavor to go with all the other dishes. The mint tea was also nice to wash down the mountains of food I was inhaling. I also enjoyed the yogurt, it's a thicker yogurt like a Greek yogurt and topped with honey and raisins. Again, a nice sweet/tart treat that didn't feel too heavy after everything else. I definitely need to come back as I didn't even get my big plate chicken but it'll be hard to choose between all the options. I def recommend this spot, esp if you like lamb as all the dishes we had were excellent and priced fairly for the portion and current economic situation.
