I've always known this as a Houston classic! My mom used to take me here as a kid, and I finally got the chance to come back after many years. The gyros strips were well-seasoned, juicy, tender and consistent in every bite. The tomatoes were cool, red and refreshing. The taziki sauce was also cool, refreshing, tart and clearly made well and not watery. I usually get lemon potatoes or fries for a carb side here, but since their fries are very good too, I ate n enjoyed them a lot as well. They were soft, seasoned well, starchy and some pieces were thin n crispy. This was the 2nd time I had the Greek spaghetti here, which imo is the best n tastiest basic spaghetti n meat sauce you could buy from a restaurant. The noodles were drained well, soft and moist in every bite. The meat gravy was so scrumptious, seasoned perfectly, juicy, rich and savory with a little touch of sweet spice like nutmeg or cinnamon. It was so balanced and like a Greek version of Bolognese. It looks somewhat simple, but the best meat sauce I have had outside since Romano's Mac Grill was around years ago. If you have had the cannelloni or lasagna from Frenchie's way out in Clearlake, you kind of get an idea of how the spice blend is. The friendly employee told us that he gained a significant amount of weight from eating it. It was very dry and crusty with cold cream interspersed within the layers. It crumbled all over the table (we cleaned it up). It seemed like a unique dessert that was nice to try, but I don't think either of us liked it that much, and we didn't end up finishing it. I love to eat here every time I come to Houston. My daughter knows this and happily accommodates my love of their Greek food. My daughter is 25% Greek and she also loves the roast potatoes, the pastitsio, the Greek salad. The place is always busy because it is awesome. There is adequate on-site free parking. Sadly, I have struggled to find a go-to since Zoe's Kitchen closed and the chicken orzo soup was lost forever- RIP. That's until now! I got the chicken avgolemono (soup) which is delicious as it ever was, BUT, the "Nico Meze platter" (is Greek hor d'oeuvres--2 each of) yalandji dolmas, spanakopitas, tiropitas, falafel, and a tiny bit of hummus $16.95 The pastries tasted all the same, the stuffed grape leaves were cold, the falafel was dry. Asked if I could sit outside with my dog. They said no. Not sure why? Nikos has been one of my favorites since before I even moved to Houston 11 years ago. Recently started doing the pick up option for food on the way home from the office. It has worked out great. One is, they got rid of the root beer. Maybe it wasn't a big seller but I loved it.
