Pollo asada taco special Carne asada taco special
Nancy M.

First time here. We sought it out on Cinco de Mayo. This gem is hidden in "the alley" on the second floor in the back . You won't see it from the street. This oddly adds to its charm and authenticity. There is a limited menu and everything is excellent and affordable.. This is Mexican street food , think street tacos and hand helds like burritos, tortas, erc. The tacos are delicious.. we had the carne asada and the pollo asada taco deal ( 3 tacos bursting with flavor snd topped with sauce and a bottled soft drink ( including Mexican sodas in so many flavors) . They have several meat choices and prickly pear. You order at the counter or the digital pad off to the right. Bring cash for tip! It's not a big alcohol scene although they offer 16 Oz beer in 4 Mexican varieties. Modela, Tecate, and a couple others It is easily accessible by Capitol Hill station stop just one stop from downtown. We went before a show with ease.

Asada and Adobada tacos!

Stopped by for a quick bite. First visit. Ordered a Asada and a Adobada taco (x2). Cool little Cap Hill restaurant. 2nd floor with enough seating. Either order at counter (which I prefer) or a kiosk. Grab a number and they deliver your food. Tacos were good street food. Asada was flavorful and the Abobada had a good chunk of pineapple. Staff was friendly and overall a good experience.

Open later and variety of items. Great spot for a late dinner. I've had larger portions from a Mexican place for $10, but the taste made up for it, so I would definitely come back. Nopales with pork and beef were good, I haven't eaten cactus from a sitdown often. Adobada tacos came with pineapple which is also rarer. Horchata was tasty and not just sweet. All dishes had a good amount of meat.

These were so yummy we ordered the baby burrito right after. Meat was tender, perfect amount of sauce and balance. The only thing I would change is the size of that pineapple on the pastor. A couple small slices would be better. The wrap on the baby burrito was so flaky and chewy. Highly recommend.

We got a few tacos for late night! We got the tacos asada and tacos adobada. Typically, I'm not a pineapple on savory food girl, but I thought it worked wonderfully with the adobada. I actually preferred it over the steak because of the pineapple! Maybe because we got it to go but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. But I may also be spoiled by LA street tacos.

Authentic Mexican food, easy to order, friendly employees, EXCELLENT taste and just like that... order, receive your food, eat and don't forget to be grateful!!

This place was recommended to me by a friend and I've been dying to try it. It's a hidden gem right in the middle of Capitol Hill, you have to walk upstairs to find it. This place offers authentic, affordable Mexican food. We ordered several tacos and a quesadilla and everything came out within minutes! I highly HIGHLY recommend trying their signature chuki taco (especially if you like pineapple), it was my favorite thing on the menu!! :) I left feeling full and satisfied but not heavy. This is now my go-to taco spot, it used to be Carmelo tacos but the food and the place make tacos chukis so unique.

This place was PERFECT. We ordered on a tablet which made things super simple. We had the tacos Chukis and the Torta both were deli shoes. Food came out QUICK and the staff were all very kind. The music and the large windows gave for a very nice experience overall.

What a gem of a spot. No tips Simple menu Simple seating Amazing service. Good ass tacos. I am soo floored. A simple no frills taco spot, that has been an institution in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, was super happy to stop by. It's tucked into the 2nd floor of a bldg and so efficient and delicious. I had 3 flavors the nopales, pork and asada. It was incredible! Simple tacos with lime

This place was a hidden gem. The service was great and the food was delicious. I love that salsa and quac are included in each dish. It is a very affordable price point. 10/10

I'm from LA area so I've had a fair share of good tacos. Will say I wasn't super blown away by this spot but it was on the better side of tacos that I've tried in Seattle area. Located upstairs in a corner spot. I tried the tacos chukis and the beef mulita, I really like the way they do beef here. The pork was on the saltier side for me but I did like that the pineapple balanced it out. Tortillas are on the drier side. Super quick service and efficient overall. You order on a kiosk and they serve it to your table. The interior is a stuffy on a hot day but for a quick meal, no complaints from me. Would come back for a quick bite or if I'm craving tacos.

Tacos de Adobada and side of beans

The tacos were so amazing! I also got a side of beans and they were so delicious too! Will definitely go back next time I'm in the area!

I've eaten here once before, but I couldn't recall how the food tasted so I came around for a second try. Unfortunately, Chukis failed to impress... I'm a Californian, so I know what a good taco is all about. I had carne asada tacos. The tacos were *drowning* in garnish -- namely the guac sauce. I could barely taste the salsa, onions, and cilantro. Less would've certainly been more. The ambiance is great -- it's vibrant & energizing. The inviting atmosphere kept me at Chukis well after my meal. Ultimately, while I'm glad I tried it out (again), I would not return to Chukis for the tacos.

Tacos Chukis Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Tacos Chukis

Are they open for dine in or take out only?

Only take out

Do they sell gift cards?

Yes

Do they have a salsa bar? Additional hot sauce?

No salsa bar. They do have additional hot sauces available

Is it ADA accessible?

No, it is not. It is at the top of several flights of stairs. It is definitely not wheel chair accessible.

When should I go to avoid the crowds?

The crowds are half the fun. But, if you are interested in dining alone I suggest when they open at 11am and maybe around 3pm. It never takes more than 20 minutes with super long lines. Those guys in the kitchen are super quick

How easy or hard is it to park around here? We usually go a little further south on Cap Hill when we dine out, so I'm not familiar if this is in one of the cramped pay-to-park neighborhoods or if it's a little more low key.

Depends on when you go. They are always slammed during peak lunch and dinner hours. Plan on going during off peak time and you shouldn't have trouble finding parking. Or if you're looking for easy parking, you can park in the QFC garage; just be…

How about opening one up on Lakewood/ Tacoma area?

I wish

Do they have fish tacos?

No, but they do have a vegetarian option.

The camarones a la diabla here was just okay. It looked like there were a lot of shrimp, but there were only about 6-7 pieces, with mushrooms making up most of the rest. The sauce wasn't very spicy at first, but the heat built up as we continued eating, so be warned if you're not a fan of spicy food! The carne asada burrito looked huge, but my fiancé was still hungry after finishing it. He suspected there were more fillers than meat, especially since he usually feels pretty satisfied after eating carne asada burritos elsewhere. He also found it very mediocre. Considering he's generally easy to please when it comes to a big burrito, that was a bit disappointing. We wouldn't mind coming back, but we wouldn't go out of our way to return either. There are better options out there, at least in our opinion. The service was neither particularly good nor bad, and the ambiance was cool enough for grabbing drinks with friends. If you're looking for a place to enjoy Mexican food and drinks, this might be a good fit. For the food alone, though, we weren't sold.

The food is authentic and if you are looking for authentic Mexican food, D'La Santa is the spot. We ordered the queso and the rajitas. Both appetizers are really good, came out super hot. Highly recommend. I got the carne asada plate and added an extra mini quesadilla. The carne is very seasoned so you have to eat it with the tortilla to balance out the saltiness. The service was fast and our waiter was very attentive.

This place isn't easy to get to. If you were to walk from the nearest light rail station, it takes…read moreabout 35 minutes - so the only other option is taking a bus from there. Despite the trek, I'm pretty happy to say that this was absolutely worth it as maybe the highest quality Mexican food in the Seattle area. The dishes here are not what you find at your typical Mexican restaurant. There's no chips and salsa, and the menu is small - only around 4 entrees and 4 small plates, along with a few appetizers. It's best to come here with someone else and find things to share - which is what I did with the small plates, since some of them come with two per order. We ended up ordering the maiz sourdough, the albacore tostadas, the brisket tacos, and tetela - finishing with the pan de elote for dessert. I'll start with what is absolutely their signature dish - the albacore tuna tostadas. I'm willing to say that this is the best dish I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. It comes in two tostadas - each with raw albacore tuna, mayo, avocado, and fried leeks - and oh my goodness is it spectacular. Everything starts from the base of it all - the tostada itself, which is so far and away the best tostada I've ever had it's not even a debate. Years of having tostadas shatter, or even crack on each bite left me fully unprepared for what was to come; a tostada that behaves like an architecturally sound disc. Seriously, you take a bite of this and the entire rest of it remains wholly intact. It's like a miracle. The texture reminds me of a Frito, it's got those slightly raised bumps and a similar thickness. And I haven't even gotten to the toppings yet. The raw tuna on top is perfect sashimi - it's soft, just fatty enough, and absolutely slides through your mouth at the lightest chew. There's also a lot more of it on the tostada than I expected. The kewpie mayo has a surprising spice to it - like the best version of spicy mayo that you've had; except it has a bit of a smoky flavor to it as well. The avocado adds earthiness, chill-ness, and a good level of fat. Lastly, the fried leeks on top provide that extra crunchy layer just to cap it all off. It's simply one of the best constructed dishes I've seen. It took a lot of willpower not to order another set of these. The other two small plates were good, but don't quite match up. The brisket tacos are small, but filled with toppings, including a ton of the dry-aged suadero. This beef was very good, containing a lot of fat and being quite juicy in each bite. I also loved the tortillas, which were some of the best corn tortillas I've had. It's clear they nixtamalize the corn used for these in-house. Still, this didn't feel that much more than a good taco. The tetela was also fine, but nothing too special as mostly just eggplant on the inside. Something else that was amazing though, was the maiz sourdough we ordered. It's easily one of the best bread appetizers I've had. The outside is so crispy without being too chewy, while the inside is hot, fluffy, and so easy to tear apart. I simply can't get over how amazing the crust is on this bread - it wraps all the way around, and is baked to absolute perfection. The included honey butter is also really well salted and sweet, but I do wish there was more of it. For dessert, we had the pan de elote - which is a sweet corn cake with blackberry jam and a whipped cream. I found the whipped cream fascinating; rather than being too sweat, it instead had a lighter flavor that focused more on the soft and creamy texture than traditional whipped cream. The combination of the super-fresh blackberry jam and texture of the whipped cream added a ton of moisture to the corn cake - which otherwise resembled kind of a sweet cornbread. Also, the portions on the cake were crazy good. All that said, this is quite an expensive place. For what we had, per person it ended up being over $60 without any drinks. For the tostada and tacos especially, you're paying 10+ dollars/person for a single tostada or taco. I would say it's worth the price for the tostada, but not for the taco. Overall, it is certainly high-end, but the quality of food here is so high it's an absolute recommend from me. 9.25/10

Definitely not the cheapest Mexican restaurant around, but you're paying for the attention to detail and carefully sourced ingredients. My food was really tasty. The way their ordering works for most menu items is you pick your antojito and then your guisado (the "vessel" and "filling," I guess). I went with gorditas with chicken. All the antojitos are made with hand-made masa (nixtamal corn dough) that uses carefully sourced heirloom maize (corn), and the gorditas were no exception. The masa was really tasty and the texture was perfect. The chicken guisado was good, and I think I'll try another type depending on what they have available the next time stop in during lunch. Andrew (our server) introduced us to his sidekick, who was in training. Love that personal, hands on approach for a mew team member, and Sidekick did a great job in monitoring our table and replenishing water. Have to stop here and express my appreciation for Andrew and how he took the time to explain the philosophy and genuine team vibe of the restaurant. Oftentimes when a restaurant adds a flat 20% gratuity, you get the feeling this is not passed on to the servers. Not so here. He explained that it's shared among the servers, bar, and other staff, with only a bit retained by management, but even that finds its way into their wages. Terrific work environment and happy to see it. It definitely shows in the level of service. But we're here to eat. Didn't take a picture, but one of my dining companions ordered the burrito with red chili sauce and it was very good. Just the right amount of heat in the sauce. The Cantina celebrates Taco Tuesday, so I took advantage of this. You get the opportunity to try 5 different street tacos for the low price of $15. For another $4 you order it fully loaded which is a steal (guac, pickled onions, lettuce, giardano, crema, and another lovely sauce). Each of the tacos were really delicious and packed full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower and the beef. Was surprised how much I liked the popcorn chicken - still juicy and not greasy in the least. Andrew treated us to a round of the hatch green chili. I was delighted because it was a dish I wanted to try. He described it perfectly: a little kick, but you can't stop eating it. He was right. A bowl of this in the winter with their cornbread (which I'm confident will be delicious) will preempt a winter cold. The sauces on the table are not to be ignored either. The green chili sauce was fruity with a little heat, the scorpion chili brings the heat, but their homemade chili oil is phenomenal. I could put this on everything. In short, the Cantina delivers. Excellent food, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and fun staff, and a cool vibe. I'll bet the cocktails will also be good. Definitely adding to the regular rotation!

Right as we were being seated, we were told, "We do not do separate tickets. You will have to pay with one card and figure it out." Customer service did not feel like a high priority at the start. My boyfriend ordered the Pork Hatch Green Chile Stew and said it was very flavorful! He also ordered the Chili Colorado tacos, but said they weren't his favorite. (Unfortunately I did not get a pic of the Chili Colorado tacos) I ordered the Carne Asada. It was prepared well and had good flavor, but even for an authentic cantina, it just didn't quite hit my taste buds the way I had hoped. On a positive note, our waitress was friendly and did a good job making sure everyone had what they needed throughout the meal. Overall, we ate, enjoyed the company we were with, and headed out. Needless to say, this probably won't be at the top of our list for a return visit.
