We walked from the hotel and ended up eating here twice! I had the extra cheesy volcan tacos they were so good I could smell how they tasted when I walked in. The carve asada was a little salty but it didn't stop me from devouring them! If you come in down the alley like we did you'll walk through what looks to be a little bar area walk-through there and then follow the signs to find the tacos. There were some people walking in with small children as we were walking out and they looked confused walking into the bar and I showed them just keep going you'll find the tacos and then they laughed. Everyone inside was nice and very friendly they run a super efficient operation and it's very clean. Soon as someone gets up somebody cleans the table because somebody's already waiting for a table. The whole thing is like an assembly line you get in line you order you get in line you get your food you walk around the corner and you get a table. Keep it moving people! This is just an amazing taco place with some amazing people highly recommend if you are in the area to go for it. The second time we came back and got more tacos to go and had to pay for parking around the corner so I don't know that it's convenient unless you're walking because parking was really expensive over there I think we paid $20 for 15 minutes.

We weren't even fully through day #2 and were already sick of BBQ. He broke the seal first and suggested Mexican. I found Taqueria De Diez in my bookmarks, and dinner plans were set. This was one of those meals where I was walking out with a pep in my step because I got exactly what I needed. I ordered a carne asada quesadilla + two tacos: Campechana and adobada. I don't even know what my favorite thing was. They were all excellent. The only slight miss were the beans, which were kind of oddly watery. But everything else was perfect, including the jamaica agua fresca. I ended up returning the next night and ordered a carne asada burrito. I didn't love it quite as much, but this is still an easy 5-star review for me. Note: this is not the easiest place to find. You literally have to walk in between some big, orange road blockers (is that what you call them?), to enter an alley. You then walk into a small bar, and then from there, you enter the actual restaurant. It's like a taco speakeasy, and it's glorious.

Velvet Taco is pure counter-service: you walk right up, order at the register, and then grab a seat. There's plenty of seating, so even with a couple of kids in tow it was no problem finding a spot. The place leans hard into what can only be called white-people tacos--soft, sad flour tortillas that taste like they came straight out of a grocery-store package, loaded with every wild creation the kitchen can invent. Global mashups, brunch hybrids, burger impostors, the works. No one is pretending these are the real deal. I went for the chicken-and-waffles taco, which was actually built on a thin, real waffle instead of a tortilla. Surprisingly good--crispy, a little sweet, chicken holding its own. The burger taco tasted exactly like a cheeseburger that had wandered into a tortilla and decided to stay. We also tried the shrimp taco (fine), one daughter got the kids' chicken taco (perfectly kid-level), and the other ordered the chicken tikka (spicy, saucy, and very much in the "why is this on a tortilla?" category). Everything was okay. Comparable to Torchy's in that same creative-American-taco lane. If you're looking for a true Mexican taco, stay far away. I ordered 4 tacos: the migas, migas poblano, shrimp macha (!!), and the Dona Reyna tacos. All of these specific tacos were priced between $6 and $6.75 per taco, not bad in Austin, and not bad considering the quality of said tacos. As you can see from my order, I opted on the more "novel" choices and they did not disappoint; that said, I do HIGHLY recommend the two variations of the migas taco and the shrimp macha taco. Oh, the shrimp macha was so FIRE, the flavors were bold and smoky with a kiss of heat. The migas tacos were FULLY LOADED, and the scramble with the tortilla chips were flavorul. DATE I WAS THERE: 07-31-16 First, I was waiting a long time for my order (about 15 minutes). Then, they tried to b/s me by saying it's on the way. After seeing many customers that came in after I did get their orders and leave, I knew they were lying. I went back to the cashier and received a dirty look just for asking where my order was again. F her!!!! Finally one of the idiots there called my name and proceeded to tell me what it was I ordered. I KNOW WHAT I ORDERED!!! Just give me my damn meal. So before he finished, I grabbed the bags from his hand and he then gave me a dirty look. Rude!!! The chick with the mohawk is to blame as she was handling all the orders coming in. She needs to get another job because she is clearly not fit to work there. One last thing, there's a hipster dude there with long hair and a beard that was bringing food out to the customers. This dude was not wearing a protective beard net over his chin and I can only imagine how many customers ate one of his beard hairs. GROSS. Get a clue!!! I'll never go back to taco deli!!! They suck!!!! I'll stick to Taco Shack and Torchy's!!! The food is so much better there too. Especially the Burnet Burrito at Taco Shack. Oh yeah, and as I was driving off, the dude that I grabbed my meal from was outside serving other customers crappy food and gave me another dirty look. We stopped by Tacodeli the other day to grab breakfast tacos for us and a couple of family members, and as always, it delivered on taste and quality. Tacodeli has been one of our go-to spots for breakfast tacos in Austin for years, and it's easy to see why. They offer a great selection of tacos with inventive, high-quality ingredients and a variety of flavorful sauces that truly elevate the meal. The only downside--and this has been a consistent issue--is that they don't label the tacos, especially for to-go orders. With a larger order, it can be a bit of a headache to figure out which taco is which, even though they've improved by separating items into individual bags now. It's better than it used to be when everything came jumbled in one bag, but there's still room for improvement in that department. We took the tacos back to our hotel and enjoyed them with family, and everyone was impressed by the portion sizes, taste, and freshness. The flavors were spot-on, and the creativity in the ingredients is always a nice touch. The staff was friendly and handled the busy weekend rush well, which is expected in Austin these days. Overall, Tacodeli remains a favorite of ours and a true Austin staple for breakfast tacos. If you're looking for quality and flavor, you can't go wrong here--just be ready to do some sorting if you're ordering to-go! read more

I have mixed feelings about Tacodeli...the food is great but the customer service at the North location on Burnet is horrendous. I was delighted to read that they had gluten-free options, so I decided to give it a try. I told the gal who was taking orders from the line of customers that I needed gluten-free and she said "no problem". I paid for my meal and a coke and stepped aside to anxiously await my delicious tacos. A waitress came over and then told me that they could not accomodate my gluten-free request.. I asked to speak to the manager and advised that I'd read a 4 page review in the San Antonio/Austin Celiac magazine touting Tacodeli for becoming a GIG approved restaurant. His response was rude, loud and embarrassing as he waved his arms for emphasis, telling me to look at all the customers he had to take care of and that he couldn't slow down to prepare my tacos in a separate clean skillet. I called Tacodeli corporate and was told that all of their locations are required to offer gluten-free options and he apologized profusely. A few months later I tried the one on Burnet again, as it's close to where I live. I was shocked to get the same treatment. I have successfully eaten at the Tacodeli on Lamar near Central Market several times and the wait staff and cooks there couldn't be more understanding and helpful. read more

Taco Deli: Where the Tacos Shine and the Doña Sauce Steals the Show. If tacos were royalty, then Taco Deli would be the palace--and the Doña sauce would be the crown jewel. These tacos are the best in Texas, bursting with flavor, creativity, and that unmistakable Austin soul. But the bright green, smoky-hot Doña sauce? Absolute magic. The customer service is as legendary as the tacos. Friendly faces, helpful suggestions, and lightning-fast service make every visit feel like catching up with old friends. Whether you're a first timer or a seasoned taco fanatic, they treat you like you're part of the Taco Deli family. Tacodeli serves breakfast tacos, lunch tacos, daily lunch specials, chips and dips, sides, salads, and soups. The chicken, pork, rice, beans, eggs, and corn tortillas are organic as well as most of the produce. The hanger steak and ground beef are 100% grass fed, and the drum fish is wild caught. We ordered 4 different tacos all on corn tortillas: Pollo En Mole, El Conquistador, Al Pastor, and Freakin Vegan. My fave was the El Conquistador, the pork was a bit crunchy which meshed perfectly with the large cuts of avocado, so good. My assistant's favorite taco was the Al Pastor. The portion is generous for the price. Total cost was under 5 bucks. The place itself is nothing fancy, just fairly priced and good quick food. It's been around for ages so that speaks for itself.

That's not just an inconvenience--that's unacceptable. Good food doesn't excuse poor customer service, especially when it involves billing errors. I'm hoping this gets addressed quickly, but in the meantime, I'd recommend others double-check their accounts. UPDATE: I was refunded for the extra charges but I do still recommend checking your account, JIC.

This location in particular is nicer with a smaller inside but a covered patio right outside giving some dining options. Ordering is always pretty quick and they brought it out to us on the patio which was extremely helpful as we had a dog with us. We ordered a cheese quesadilla with tater tots, a Democrat, and a Baja Shrimp. All were really good but the baja shrimp was such a standout packed with flavor, we could've easily eaten 3 of them alone. The quesadilla and tater tots were good too, always nice to have a safe option at a place. Torchy's is just a good taco spot with such a funky and eclectic menu which makes it fun too. We really liked the added outdoor aspect of this one and can easily see us coming back due to the pet friendly convenience.

It was during week for my lunch hour. We ended up waiting just over half an hour for a burrito and a quesadilla. I'm not sure what happened because of the language barrier, but there were people getting their food who ordered after us and it was frustrating during a lunch "hour," so I assume our order wasn't given a priority. There are some benches to sit and eat behind a net, but that's about it. That being said the food was actually well portioned and tasty. I just personally wouldn't recommend this food truck or visit again because of the wait. Service and wait time during lunch: horrible Taste and portion size of food: above average

Oh and don't get me started on the massive amount of white rice and canned beans. ‍ I asked for limes, they gave me lemons which do NOT taste the same.
