The food comes out pretty quick and there is a lot of different types of taco. The ambiance is usually pretty busy and the service is decent. Chips/queso: I ordered the small queso and honestly it was plenty for 1-2 people. The queso is a very light flavor. It is pretty thin liquid and there is not much spice to it. Frontera fundido chicken: This taco was very delicious! The chicken was seasoned well and there was plenty of flavor. I loved adding some of the queso to the taco too! It is not spicy and there is tons of filling. Barbacoa taco: I did not like this taco as much. The taco was really salty and had a almost off flavoring. I was looking for some good old Texas tacos. My mind instantly thought of Tacodeli. They didn't win awards because their tacos aren't the best. They won because their tacos are the best, and they make the most delicious tacos in the area. Tacodeli tacos come with a bit of a twist here and there, or with flavors a person never thought of trying. Also, the menu can surprise you with something new, like it did me today. I first ordered my favorites, the Space Cowboy and the Pollo Fantastico. Now the surprise was the pork taco. It's called the DeliBelly. The inside is a tender pork belly, a honey tomatillo serrano salsa, avocado, cilantro, and onion. I could have eaten another if it wasn't so big. They also serve a wide selection of breakfast tacos. I think it's about 13 to 14 breakfast tacos. My favorite is The Otto, it's refried black beans, lots of bacon, no shortage of avocado, and jack cheese. It's a favorite!!! Also, you can build your own tacos to your liking, and if you're vegan, they have that, too. Also, take advantage of the patio, it's nice with plenty of seating and very shady. I opted for the trio of beef (the Frontera Fundido Sirloin), chicken (the Mexico City Chicken), and fish (the Mojo Fish) tacos! We came to this location after we couldn't get onto Phoebe's Diner without a reservation. This location is good if you want to order online and pick up your order. The manager at this location said he is Mexican, and Tacodeli has the best dairy free horchata he's ever had. He was right! I ordered it and it was delicious. Went to Taco deli for the very first time. I am now a fan! I ordered queso and chips which was o.k., I've had better. I ordered the Mexico chicken taco and the Happy chicken taco. Both were well seasoned and flavorful. The staff are very pleasant and friendly and the price isn't too bad for a very good meal. Very nice ambiance and atmosphere. As a long standing institution of Austin tacos, this place has continously delivered great tacos using high quality LOCAL ingredients from small farms. Deli's in the name and that's the atmosphere, order your tacos, grab salsa, and go sit down. Enjoy fun art on your table as they prepare your tacos fresh and bring them out to you. I suggest trying something new every time you go. Make it a "blue plate special" if you are extra hungry - that adds rice and beans to your two tacos. The staff is definitely of a higher quality than you'll be used to. I ordered a scallop taco the other night and they had to let me know they ran out of scallops. The staff gave me a substitute AND refunded my taco. I'm a Taco Deli fan for life. I highly recommend you try a line of Salsa Roja in your taco with a few drops of Salsa Doña on top. You will thank me later. Don't forget the queso, its phenomenal (ask for extra chips with your order). And the mash potatoes... why do they have mash potatoes?? Been to this location more frequently of late and still has the tacodeli vibes we know and love after a decade in Austin. It feels more local chain than ever these days and while the Dona salsa is still irresistible, I feel the tacos themselves have shrunk and/or just feel less special. Or I'm just an Austinite who has gotten spoiled and snobby, you decide. But Tacodeli is always dependable, so I'll leave it at 4. Got breakfast the other day and love the fact you can get the chicken frontera fundido in the morning for a high protein start to the day. Love the peppers, cheese and chicken combo, more so than the steak option. Jess special (migas + add ons) is my favorite breakfast taco here and loaded with dona, is a great match. The tortillas aren't really the best by any stretch of the imagination, but they'll do. Coffee in house is Cuvee, which I personally am not a fan of but many do like. There's something about the way the eggs are scrambled that make it so good. Mexico City Sirloin tacos are my other fave. The grill on the meat gets a great sear. Chorizo, Eggs, Jack Cheese and Mashed Potato. Custom taco and my favorite thing. They don't skimp on the ingredients. The cheese was melty and the potato gave a bit of that comfort - yum. The tacos are a good size, I struggled to finish 3 of them. Lastly, their salsa. DELICIOUS. I could drink this stuff! I think the service is top notch. The taco came with a generous serving of pico de gallo and guacamole. The steak chimichurri taco was incredibly flavorful. It had a really nice acidic flavor from the vinegar/ acid in the chimichurri sauce. It is a bummer that this taco is only available on Fridays. The queso was underwhelming. I've had better. And the chips came in a plastic bag so it is probably safe to assume they aren't made in house. The food came out fast and the restaurant is pretty clean. They have two entirely Vegan Tacos. I had one of each, and they are both delicious and satisfying. Next time I want to get the Vegetarian ones without cheese. One was super unique: it contained sweet potatoes among other things. It was a lovely taco, so I'm now in favor of sweet potato tacos. Their jalapeno salsa is great too. It looks creamy, so I feared they added some dairy to it; the cashier reassured me it was oil, which is another example of their culinary unique brilliance, since it made the salsa rock. The beans are straight from a can--no onion, no seasoning, no effort. The eggs are stale, the chorizo is raw, and the whole thing is just a heap of disgusting slop. Sixteen bucks for this? I tried two tacos: frontera fundido sirloin and puerco verde. When I read the ingredients to the frontera fundido sirloin (grilled sirloin, jack cheese glaze, and sautéed poblano-onion rajas) I got excited. Growing up in a Mexican household, rajas was a dinner staple. For anybody that's never heard of them, rajas are roasted poblano peppers with caramelized onions and cream. The peppers are roasted until they're blistered and blackened all over; the skin is then peeled off, and you're left with soft strips of poblano peppers. The cream is important, as it tones down the heat of the peppers and gives rajas its signature creamy texture. The taco I got didn't quite have rajas; instead, it had strips of peppers and onions that appeared to have been quickly sautéed, not roasted and caramelized until soft, and with no cream. Was it still good? Yes, just not quite what I expected. I do wish the onions would've been cooked longer. The puerco verde taco consisted of pork shoulder, salsa verde, queso fresco, cilantro, and onion. It was the perfect amount of spicy for me, but came with a little too much raw onion that I should've just taken off. Overall, I thought both tacos had good flavor, and I would definitely order them again (maybe taking off some of the onion next time). It's a solid "fast food" place to get tacos with quality ingredients, and they have many options to choose from. read more

Being a child of the South (Austin), my college career was filled with trips to the original Taco Deli so imagine my surprise when I first discovered this location while back for work and staying north. The set up is the simple: enter and head to the counter to place your order. Menu boards decorate the space above the registers and be sure to check out their daily specials. My go-to tacos are: potato egg and cheese, Jess Special. and/or the Vaquero for breakfast and the Heather, Freakin' Vegan, and Fontera Fundido for lunch; all in whole wheat tortillas. No matter what I pick they all get dunked and slathered in Salsa Dona. For real-don't sleep on Dona.   Service is always pleasant. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and happy to make any accommodations/modifications needed. The restaurant has also always been clean, with staff cleaning and resetting the dining area when someone finishes and departs.   While I have ordered tacos to go my preferred visit will be dining in to enjoy my tacos fresh and hot with Salsa Dona refills just steps away. Next time work has me up this way I will definitely be stopping by to kick-start my day in the spicy right direction. read more
