Today in I felt adventurous and decided to go inside the Torchys restaurant v the drive thru ...totally different experience in a good way. I purchased 2 tacos with guacamole (my guilty pleasure) and chips. The Baja shrimp and salmon tacos were and explosion of textures and flavors. It is also important to note, there are significant amounts in each taco. The guacamole was tasty. Two team members took my order as one was a trainee. They were both super pleasant. I had not been in the restaurant until today. The renovations refresh was nice. The Torchy Devil symbol is prominent throughout the restaurant. Bold red paint hugged the walls of the restaurant. Wet Baja Shrimp Grilled I came here to order Baja shrimp fried tacos never had this issue before the breading just completely was wet and fell off. I also ordered two other tacos. I called and spoke with the manager. She only voided off the two tacos. I think they're more courteous thing to do would've been to avoid the whole ticket... this was unfortunately my dinner so I had to try to peel off the wet breading and try to eat and cook Shrimp. A classic Torchys food location. Everything was made to order and had the same flavors you would find at any Torchys. The only real difference here was the seating was mainly outdoors and indoors was small/not AC'ed well. Summer time, this Torchys can get very warm. This Torchy's location was not great. I visited on Sunday night and it was not too busy. Three people were in front of me in line when I came in. I ordered my food and the cashier was very kind. However, I began to get impatient because my food still was not ready after 20 minutes of waiting. The group who ordered right before me had already gotten their food a while ago, and even people who ordered after me had already received their orders. I was standing patiently in front of the order window this entire time, holding my order card. Also, the people making the queso/guac and bagging the chips were not wearing gloves or hairnets. Pretty unsanitary for them to be making their food this way, especially right in front of their customers. Once I got my food it was good, but my experience beforehand was not up to par. read more

Flavors are bursting as it all tastes so good! The Threesome with the salsa, guacamole, queso with chips is a must unless you don't like chips. My buddy loves the Republican tacos! I prefer the Democrat and Trailer Park tacos. Brushfire, Crossroads, Green Chile Pork tacos were all good just not my favs. Service is great as they are friendly and prompt. The place is kept cool and comfy or if you prefer hot and muggy, plenty of seats outdoor too. Got two baja shrimp tacos. No pickled onions, no cilantro, uncooked cabbage slaw, with dry cotija cheese. The shrimp were actually fresh and tasty but salty. This was my favorite taco and now it ain't cuz I can't get past the flavor and texture of the uncooked cabbage slaw. The counter staff were awesome so gotta give props there! read more

Didn't even know this outpost of Torchy's existed. It's tiny - not much indoor seating, and while there is some outdoor seating, the heat and flies make it more of a use the drive through/grab and go situation. The parking situatin doesn't help either. That said, ordering ahead and having to wait 45 minutes for 3 tacos and some queso does not feel good. I appreciate them giving me a free drink while I waited but that's still a really long time. The queso for me is still the best in Austin. Not sure what they do to get it particularly that melty compared to other quesos, but the kick, guac and house chips all make for a perfect appetizer. Taco wise, brushfire has some sweet savory chicken going for it and the democrat has been my go to for years since I love barbacoa. Trailer Park hillbilly style is heavy but absolutely delicious. 5 for the food, 3 for the overall experience, so average it out. read more

Sad state of affairs at this location. While the staff are super friendly, they've gotten very stingy with their proteins. Also, the quality of their meats has degraded significantly. The last two times I ordered a $15 salad, it had such a small amount of chicken that I decided to weigh it. It was 2.7 ounces. Way overpriced for such a small amount of chicken. Also, their queso is always cold. Hopeful that they'll made adjustments, but, they don't seem to be that interested as they don't reply to emails asking what's up with the above issues, either. read more

I ordered my meal and a side. I paid nearly $20 which is fine if I'm getting treated nicely. I asked "no cilantro & grilled shrimp" ... order came and it was fried shrimp and the side had cilantro. I told the women delivering the items that I didn't order this. She looked the annoyed. The women behind the counter were eying me. She came back with grilled chicken, I said "again, this is not what I ordered." She looked annoyed. The girl who took my order was glaring at me during this whole encounter. The Belterra Torchys has slipped in quality of late, which is highly disappointing. We go there on a regular basis, enough to have the menu memorized by now to the extent that we await with a modicum of eagerness the new Taco of the Month for something different. Previously, it's always been more than decent quality and very innovative approaches (which is systemic for them, I suppose). And the prices are incredibly low for the quality and quantity. However. None of that held true for the last stop. What we got was lukewarm at best, and not up to their standards. MyTrailer Park had one large chunk or fried chicken that had to be pried apart to spread it over the tortilla. And it was tepid. My companion pronounced her Democrat 'awful' because of the temp and the flavor. She did, however, feel her frozen margarita was 'perfect'. Because of,our fondness for Torchys and this location, we're hoping this is a one-off, and we'll be back for a redemption tour. Hoping that they cure whatever is wrong back in the kitchen or the delivery system. Otherwise,we'll just stop at the bar only for the margaritas. Went here today at about 6:00pm to place an order to carry back to our hotel. We ordered 8 tacos and an Airstream Salad. When we got back to the hotel, one taco was missing. The salad was in a large black container that had a divider and only filled the bottom of one side. Hardly worth the $9.50 without any meat. Did not look anything like the salad on their website. The Fajita Steak tacos were stringy and tough. All the cheese was melted onto the foil wrapping. Upon returning at about 8:00pm to discuss the issues, the manager was not there. The young, thin male that I spoke with just shrugged his shoulder and had the replacement taco made. I would not recommend Torchy's Tacos. We used to eat at their Kingwood, Texas location and really liked them. Their quality has really gone downhill. read more

Not only did he refund our order, he made us laugh hysterically with his approach, jokes, and personable attitude. 10/10 turned the entire situation around for us, despite being HANGRY!!!! I've come here many times before and love it always . The tacos are stuffed with many ingredients and I can taste all the flavors. This time I got the Baja Shrimp. Being new to Austin, I wanted to try some tex-mex that I hear so much about. Torchy's Tacos had great reviews by other yelpers so I thought I would try them out. I was immediately impressed that they had a drive thru but then immediately disappoint when the drive thru took over 30 mins to receive my food. That being said, all my annoyance of the long wait went out the door when I tried their tacos. Delicious! They have some interesting tacos on the menu. Some of the combination I've never seen before. I got The Democrat, Crossroads and trailer park. All were 10/10 in my books. Amazing flavor and good portions. I was full after 2. Will definitely eat here again but maybe order ahead next time. read more

Torchys is me and my sisters go to when figuring out late night dinners, my personal favorite being the Democrat and the green chile pork while they enjoyed their trailer parks (make them trashy). You go in expecting that the tacos will not fill you unless you get a few, trust me when I say, TWO tacos is all you need. I have trouble finishing even two with how full I feel. One of the best taco places in austin! They always have a great taco of the month and of course I have my favorites. The Republican and the Democrat but I think my all-time favorite is the trailer park tacos. Get 'em trashy! It comes with queso ("mmmm queso") Some places are a little tight to drive through and park but it's definitely worth checking out. They have chips and drinks but their handmade salsa is awesome! I had a not great experience last time I ordered due to needing to cancel the order and still having the order delivered anyway. They had been nice enough to not charge me again since I had received a refund, so I thought I'd give some more business their way. We ordered some food for delivery today, including using my wife's free queso+chips for her birthday. The queso did not arrive with the order. I called and spoke to Cameron who told me that I would need to call DoorDash even though the order was placed through the Torchy's website. I called DoorDash to request a redelivery and they said I would need to call Torchy's as they were unable to redeliver since I ordered through Torchy's. I called Torchy's again and spoke to Cameron who said I would need to call DoorDash for redelivery. While he did offer a "credit" for next time I came in, at this point I'd decided I would not be eating at Torchy's again. The customer service has been spotty over the years at this and other locations, but I'd tried to give the benefit of the doubt. This is the last time we will be giving Torchy's our business. Obviously they'll be doing just fine without it, but hopefully this feedback will help so that future customers won't encounter this kind of situation. No real apology offered with any of my interactions, either, so it's clear that losing a customer is not much of a concern, which works out, I guess. Also, I tried submitting this feedback through the Torchy's website, but it would not allow me to submit it, which I'm assuming is because it was not going to be positive. Super sad to say this, but this is the second time we've tried to come on a weekend and both times we have been sitting in the drive-through for over 45 minutes with only one car in front of us. The first time we were sandwiched between two cars so we had to sit there and wait, but this time once we hit the 30 minute mark, it seems too crazy to keep waiting. (there was still a car in front of us who had not yet gotten their food) the car in front of us ended up driving off without getting their food as well so we were able to leave. Frustrating because the food is good and the people who worked there are nice, but you can't expect to wait in a drive-through for almost an hour so you can get a relatively expensive expensive fast food burrito. read more
