This place is amazing! Tacos are delicious! I always get the barbacoa they are delicious! If you are eating some excellent tacos I highly recommend them! My father has tried the other foods and he also had said it's really good! Here is a picture of the menu!

WTH?! Am I in Mexico? Why am I standing at the counter in this tiny hole in the wall ordering tacos? Dude, how much of that acid did you give me? There is no way their tacos are this cheap, HFS! I should be thinking about how im going to get home from Mexico but this taco is so damn good Im not even stressing! Wait... Im not in Mexico? Im on Braker and 35 next to a haji store? AWESOME

The menu and prices!

In my continuous search for the best breakfast tacos in Austin, I saw this place had decent enough yelp reviews to give it a shot. First, its a taqueria so I couldn't give a shit about the ambiance. It being cash only and clearly busy with Hispanics on their way to a blue collar job were positive signs. I got a bean & cheese, potato & egg, and a potato, egg & cheese for $4.00 As I've mentioned in my other breakfast taco reviews it comes down to 4 things: 1. Tortilla = 3/5: For breakfast tacos, flour is only considered. The tortilla was standard San Antonio size, which is good (bigger than standard Austin size),but def nothing special in the taste department. 2. Filling = 4/5: They didn't skimp out on filling just becuase the tortilla was larger than your avg Austin tortilla, which is appreciated. The most imprtant ingredient of a breakfast taco is the egg. Their eggs weren't "watery" nor overcooked, scrambled well, and mixed with the 2nd ingredient nicely. The potatoes were average, didn't stand out at all. The cheese was somewhat disappointing, average quality but not mixed in with the filler...just a melted layer on top of the filling, like on a chili dog. 3. House Salsa, 3.5/5: They don't use "tub" salsa and offer a spicier verde/tomatillo option which I'll pick every time. That being said, their green salsa isn't anything special when compared to other salsa verdes around town. Meh heat and meh flavor. I'd say avg for both. The amount of salsa they give you in their to-go container is well above avg which is nice. 4. Price = 4/5: Meets my requirement for being under $2 per (not even Austin's beloved Tacodeli is worth more than $2 per breakfast taco). Any 2 items for $1.25 plus 25¢ per addiitonal item. This is a good price for Austin (more expensive than avg for San Antonio tho, man I miss those 89¢ tacos at Ruthie's in the morning). In this area, I'd def go here over something like Vazquez's, Pablito's, TCs, Torchy's, or an avg taco truck but would rather get mine from Taquito Anaya (2 exits South - way better quality & salsa tho 25¢ per more expensive), Cheko's (2 exits South, same price but better quality), Maria's (1 exit North, better quality and cheaper by 50¢ for 3...tho only till 10am), or Ken's (1 exit South, same quality but better bang for your buck since each taco is enormous with filling). Again this is just about their breakfast tacos, their non-breakfast tacos were priced cheap enough to where I'll come back sometime for lunch to give them a try. Looks like my search continues for Austin's best breakfast taco.

Great tacos! The verde sauce is the better of the two choices but the red is still awesome. The best price for tacos in town!

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average

So we were thinking of tacos or Mexican food and my daughter suggested this spot as she had come here with some friends and really enjoyed their sopecitos. I had never had a sopecito! What is that! So we had to try... We were lucky to arrive at the right time (9 pm!) where we got their last table!! Make reservations or something because this is another one of those places that fills up! So- we were taken care of immediately: chips and some very hot salsas were set on the table while we chose. They menu is in QR code format, but we asked and got paper menus as well. Well I got the chicken sopecitos , my daughter got the pork ones and my partner got the meat tacos. Everything was delicious, the food arrived promptly, the portion size was perfect and bountiful and everything was super enjoyable. I really enjoyed trying some New Mexican favorites. Next time I will try some other delicacies since I always get tacos tacos burritos or quesadillas: time for some new items on the menu! Enjoy!

Music was so loud in the back room areas that you could not even have a conversation with others at your table. When I asked to have the music turned down, I was ignored. Dishes were on the pricer side. We won't be back.

We started with their famous house Margaritas with Tajín, and they were absolutely delicious--and definitely strong in the best way. My boyfriend and I shared the Ceviche Las Brisas, which was incredibly fresh with generous, perfectly cut pieces of fresh white fish from the Gulf of Mexico. For our main dish, we split the vegetable Enchiladas de Mole Poblano, served with rice and black refried beans. I wish the enchiladas had more vegetables. Everything on the plate was outstanding, and I truly think they have the best mole in town--rich, complex, and unforgettable. We were also celebrating a friend's birthday, and the staff made it extra special by surprising her with a complimentary Tres Leches cake, which was just as amazing as everything else we had. Great food, lively atmosphere, and wonderful service--Fonda San Miguel continues to be one of our favorite spots. We can't wait to go back!
