I'm sorry. I do not give out participation trophies when it comes to tacos. I've had too many good ones just to be kind to a business. Results or bust. These tacos al pastor had no pineapple. Major fail. They were dry and crumbly and the pork had a chewy cotton consistency. Yuck. What did I eat? We tried a variety of tacos and the best ones they had on the menu were the potato and egg tacos, which we tried since breakfast was served all day. Also, my niece had to stop at the light on Lamar and vomit the carne asada tacos out in front of all of the cars waiting at the light by us. I tried to ask her what happened but she still doesn't have the words to explain what upset her stomach. I felt so sorry cause I picked the place. But If the carne asada had an old taste like my pastor, then say no more. My niece has a weaker constitution than me so it was destined to happen. Side note: There were no English speakers when we ordered, so if this is the usual, brush up on your Spanish before coming. No big deal. There just might be a language barrier. Plus points for giving us all of the limes, cilantro and onions to our hearts desire, but all of that still couldn't make up for the lower than expected quality of the tacos. Even the corn tortillas felt more like flour instead of corn, but we were assured they were corn. I won't be back, but maybe you can test your experience against mine and report back. read more

Their Barbacoa tacos with the salsa Verde let me tell you BOMB. Sometimes I do have to take out some fatty pieces, but that doesn't stop it from being overly yummy or ruin the taste or experience. They are a little bit stingy with the limes but all of the sassy attitude it's worth it for the food. And for a late night food truck it's my go to stop. Visiting Austin and looked for something open late night and groceries were closed so I looked this place up on Yelp and saw they had meat by the pound which would last me a few days. It's a small operation with a few seats outside and a drive through. Service was quick as they came out to take my order prior me to getting to the window so by the time I got to the front of the line everything was ready. My fave go to for late night after work just can't make my own supper tacos! The only location that really makes it happen is at South First and Oltorf, though. The other locations (i've tried them all!) just don't have it goin' on- the menu is the same at the other locations but the food and service at South First/Oltorf is superb. The staff is muy friendly, the food is well and very consistently prepared and packaged and the manager Michelle guides a great, hard working crew who seem to love their jobs and amazingly enough remember and greet their repeat customers. Best barbacoa! The option of nopalitos on breakfast tacos is great! Spicy pollo! Chicharon! Try the Revuelta or Carnitas-its all good home cooking made to order. Real Mexican food in a friendly atmosphere (and an integral part of the surrounding neighbourhood). This location has hosted quite a few different drivethrough restaurants over the years, but El Taccorido is the only one we've visited so often and so happily... El Tacorrido is a gem that has quickly become a staple in my life thanks to the value and quality of the food. It looks unassuming from the outside, located in the middle of a parking lot of a strip mall off of Lamar and Rundberg. But what it lacks in showmanship it makes up for in taste, price, and consistency. With most tacos holding steady at less than $3 per taco (as long as you don't go overboard with extra toppings) and the ability to have either breakfast or non-breakfast tacos at any time of day, it's easy to bring a friend and have a full meal with drinks for less than $20 between two people. These kinds of high-value places in Austin are few and far between. Not only is the price great, but the quality of tacos is stellar. I've sampled several tacos from their savory menu including the bistec and pollo, as well as some breakfast taco varieties. All have been smash hits. It's hard to stop at just a few tacos because they're so mouth-wateringly delicious. Don't shy away from the cilantro and onion add-ons unless you're good with missing out on taste. The salsas come in 3 varieties--2 red and one green. The green is my personal favorite, but you should try them all and find out which suits your palette best. One pro tip is that if you want avocado on your tacos, you do have to ask for it and pay about $0.50 extra. There will probably be a guy walking around asking if you want a churro. The churros are solid but unfortunately, depending on the time of day you're there, they might not be warm. Still a nice and sweet tasty treat. I do not believe this guy walking around with the churro cooler is associated with El Tacorrido. Bring cash if you want to finish your meal with some churros. read more

Authentic Mexican tacos and breakfast tacos served all day (open until midnight), on your choice of flour or corn tortilla. As far as their menu goes, personally, I don't think I can even choose a favorite: It's a toss up between the Al Pastor and the Barbacoa tacos. The queso blanco is also the bomb-diggity. If you're a coffee drinker, I also recommend the Equinox, which is coffee with horchata (delicious. sweetened rice milk). The horcahata can be ordered without coffee too. In a city, famous for its tacos, especially ones of the breakfast variety, El Tacorrido keeps up with the best of them! I just moved into the area so I needed to find a new taco spot. I figured Tacorrido would be a good option. Ordered my usual and when I got home I realized there was no salsa in the bag. None. I looked online and saw that they charge for their salsa. If that isn't the most gentrified/Wipipo ish ever I don't know what is. So here I am, not only eating dry tacos, but they didn't even add salt or any type of seasoning. Ended up being the blandest tacos I've ever had. Hard to justify giving them another shot with the small, dry, bland tacos I just ate. If you're going to have this policy in place, you should make it abundantly clear because even the roadside taco trucks get that part right. read more

When I asked them about it the guy claimed the bottled Cokes were $3 instead of $2 as the menu read. I called his BS and asked to return the unopened Cokes. He then short changed my refund. Flight was delayed, landed around midnight. Couldn't find my luggage....learned there was an issue and I need to call to check on my bags tomorrow. There goes my toiletries......whomp whomp. Their hours are pretty awesome, open until 3am! The menu was pretty short and sweet. We ended up getting a variety of tacos: al pastor, carnitas, bistec (beef fajitas), and carne guisada (beef stewed in onionand tomato). Oh man.... So delicious! The tacos appear small but they definitely pack a lot of good stuff so it's deceivingly filling (in the best way)! I highly recommend checking out this place and getting a variety for yourself! I would like to start off by saying a friend took me to this place because he highly recommended it. I was extremely disappointed in the quality and taste of the quesadilla and fish taco that I ordered. I returned a second time to see if there was any chance of redemption (this place is very close to my home) but alas I was only let down again. I tried their barbacoa which was chewy, fatty and not even shredded. The corn tortillas seemed to not have been warmed up and fell apart immediately. The quesadilla pictured was covered in grease, the corn tortillas falling apart yet again and the taste was just off. As a Hispanic I am absolutely astounded at this businesses ability to call their food Mexican. Horrible. Disgusting. Not to mention the staff which gave me attitude when I asked for lime-- they insisted was in the taco foil, but was not. You're better going off to Rositas, Taco more, El taquito, and any other GENUINE taco place in the area. Avoid this culturally appropriated nightmare. read more
