I haven't been to Ken's Tacos in a while. The Austin American Statsman came out with the top 10 and Ken's was nuber 10. Not in my book. I got there at 6:15 AM and there were people already ordering. I decided to order two two tacos. The staff member appeared to be confused when I ordered. I stated two tacos. Potato, sausage and cheese. She repeated my order two times and stated two tacos with potato, bacon and cheese. I had to correct her bouth times. My order did come out quick, however it didn't have time to look at it to see it everything was what I requested. I asked for two hot sauces, one red and one green. The same staff member that placed my order stated it would be 30 cents a piece. The hot sauce looked completely waterd down. No way I was going to purchase hot sauce that usually in my opinion comes with it. I then got home. Looked at my tacos, and pretty much it was a backed potato taco. Hardly any cheese or sausage. So my order was correct. Never going to this establishment again. 10 dollars for two tacos not including the not including the waterd down hot sauce. Not sure how they came out top 10. read more

Yelp actually helped me find Ken's when in Central Austin for work and since then it has become a regular in my breakfast rotation whilst in town. An unassuming storefront..dare I say a taco dive sits just off the intersection of Rundberg Ln. and Cameron Rd. Parking is a TIGHT dozen(ish) parking spots. Walk in, place your order at the counter, and find a seat. After a short wait your number will be called and it'll be taco time. My go-to order is short sweet simple: potato egg and cheese breakfast tacos. I also always go with their green salsa, soooo delish. Now I will say, at least for the potato egg and cheese tacos, they are a bit under-seasoned, but I hit them with a bit of salt and salsa and we are good to go! Don't go in expecting bells and whistles and all that. It's a taco dive that serves up quality massive portions with consistency. This restaurant is a reoccurring visit my family and I always make. Their breakfast tacos are the best that I've ever had. I've tried a variety of food overtime from this place, and everything is perfect, so you can't go wrong with anything, in my opinion. The staff is always super friendly, and they work super hard to get everyone's order out at a decent time. Cons: the parking lot is not my favorite. But the food makes up for that. As a proud Austinite, I've been going to Ken's tacos ever since I was in high school. I enjoyed their giant delicious tacos way back then and now that I've rediscovered them, I am proud to say they are just as tasty as I remember. Fair warning, they are not open on Sundays. I joined a dance group that practices nearby on Sundays so I was always reminded that this place was still there on Rundberg and Dessau/Cameron Road but I needed to remember to make my way back when it was open. That opportunity arose as I was headed back from the airport on 183 after dropping someone off in the wee hours of the morning (i.e. 6 am for me). Faithfully, they were already open so I was able to order my favorite - bacon, egg and cheese. They're giant and also very tasty. If you're like me, you may order two breakfast tacos at Tacodeli but here, you might just only need to order one. The place itself is no frills. It's a lunch counter that offered great food and fast service. If you need to order takeout, they can whip up your order in less than ten minutes, if they're not too busy. So I will definitely be making my way back more often since I've been reacquainted with this delicious gem and I highly recommend for others to try this tried and true Austin staple as well. read more

I saw a story on the local news where they were searching out the best breakfast tacos and Ken's was on their list. I was out doing some recon on a fine Saturday morning. Parking is tight and the place was busy. Surprising it has a larger dine-in than it looks like from outside. I saw previous posts that say the tacos are big, they are and the price is right. I tried the sausage and egg and poured on the green sauce. So good! That one didn't get a picture, I was hungry and it just didn't get past me opening it up. Plenty of meat and eggs, lots of flavor. The chorizo was just as flavorful, and again, very hearty. I didn't pay attention to the winner of the news channels taco story, but this place was on their list. Ken's is well worth the visit. No one told me that these tacos were going to be as massive as they are. We came here for breakfast, and I was not prepared to make as many decision as I had to (I did it to myself I think). Coming in, it's a standalone restaurant with yellow walls, an ordering counter, and a bit of seating. Easy to get started, but difficult to decide what you want. When you order a breakfast taco, you can get it with up to 4 things. I got 3 tacos, and 4x3 is 12. It was hard to make 12 choices, 1 after the other. I got a bacon, potato, egg, and sausage, a bacon, egg, beans, and cheese, and a chorizo, potato, and egg one. My bad for being slow and holding up the line. The tacos came out so fast, I was real happy about that. They give you two kinds of salsa as well: a green salsa and red salsa. Spicy and spectacular, I'd say. Yummy! I took bites out of all of my tacos, but I was NOT able to finish them. I think I took the equivalent of 1.5 tacos home. So great, but so much food, hahaha! Super affordable, too. When we used to live here, this would be our go-to spot for breakfast tacos. Now, roughly 6 years after our last visit, we come to get their breakfast tacos once again, which is just like before. We always get the one meat sausage breakfast tacos; they always pack it up with a lot of eggs and a good amount of sausage. I tend to get full after just one breakfast taco. The only downside is that since this location is pretty popular, the parking lot tends to get filled up quick, and since its parking lot is pretty small, be prepared to park somewhere else or wait until someone leaves. Great portions if you're not black. A friend of mine came in and ordered 12 crispy tacos and man they were beautiful, full of everything. I got mine and they were basically enough to call them tacos. I've noticed this with Mexican establishments in Austin. Especially at Ken's. The non welcoming looks from the younger cashiers like they have a problem with me wanting yacos. I finally tried Ken's for lunch. I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and added jalapeños. It did not disappoint. Trying to lift it and eat it by hand was futile. I ended up using knife and fork. Definitely a great sandwich. Friend had the beef, lettuce and tomato crunchy tacos. They were excellent and like everything there a home run. Prices are very reasonable! The tacos used to be better. Some of the other meals are still great. The problem is that they NEVER take accountability for their mistakes. If you order one thing and they give you something else. Especially if you're not eating in the restaurant they act like it was you that said the wrong thing not them that made a mistake. It's bad customer service.
