The portion sizes here are insane! My taco was overflowing with meat and cheese, and my rice dish was huge, easily enough for 2 or 3 people. Plus, the chips and salsa are still free. The service was super nice, and the location is really convenient, especially if you're shopping at Publix. There's tons of parking, and since it's Florida, you can totally enjoy their patio seating. Came in after a long night at the hospital. We were seated immediately. Started with drinks I got a tamarindo $4.99. Horchata $4.99, kids lemonade. Tamarindo was really sweet, too sweet for me I asked our kind waitress Ana if I could just have water as it was too sweet. She kindly removed it from my bill and was very apologetic. My daughter ordered a shredded chicken bowl (not pictured, I forgot, sorry) $12.99 she enjoyed it. My tacos were good not quite the authentic I am used to from CA but it got the job done for starved tummies. Total bill $30. A few cents cheaper for cash payment. A plus for me! The restaurant seemed recently updated very nice on the inside. The staff was very friendly and our service was super fast. All of the food was great and they even had some fun trivia going on when we went on Monday night. Delicious! I ordered the Baja Salad to go with grilled chicken. Everything was so fresh, including the avocados, and there was a generous portion of chicken. I was not able to finish this salad in one sitting. I have honestly never had a salad with so much protein! There was enough chicken for three people. So bummed because I'm only going to get to eat this delicious meal one time since I'm visiting from out of town, but I'm going to make it a point to go back to Taco Libre when I visit again. During a recent visit, a female guest in our party was approached by a member of the bar staff and subjected to an unsolicited and inappropriate comment about her body. There was no safety concern. There was no discretion. It was simply unnecessary and unprofessional. When the issue was brought to management, we were informed that this employee has behaved similarly in the past. That response was more concerning than the comment itself. In a city built on hospitality and tourism, guests -- especially women -- should not have to wonder whether staff will feel entitled to comment on their bodies while they are trying to enjoy dinner. A pattern of behavior that is known to management and allowed to continue is not a minor oversight. It reflects a cultural problem. We hope ownership takes this seriously. Situations like this do not stay contained for long in a community like St. Augustine. We will not be returning. read more

They were slammed when we arrived on a Sunday evening, however they were doing it right- they were quick to bring out chips to every table, getting drinks quickly and running around making sure everyone was taken care of! The food was on point and we had a great time: the had top shelf margaritas on special for $8.99 - delicious with both a fresh orange and lime squeezed in it! Yesterday I was lured by happy hour specials -- decent house wine and always good margaritas. I also had the Alcapulco ceviche which was good and loaded with shrimp. The only drawback is I would have preferred no onions, but it was bulk-made. This location is in a plaza that is undergoing construction. We went on a weekday and it wasn't busy. We were immediately greeted and seated. The hostess was very nice and took our orders quickly. The menu has all sorts of offerings from tacos to burritos to enchiladas. Since I'm vegetarian and love enchiladas, I went with the enchilada supreme platter that comes with 3 enchiladas with red sauce. It also comes with refried beans and rice. My husband ordered some meat tacos. The food came out super fast like it was already prepared which is fine. My husband liked his tacos but my enchiladas were not good on any level. The red sauce it was drenched in was watery. The rice and beans had no flavor no seasoning, just tasted very bland. The enchiladas were topped with lettuce which was just strange as it just makes the enchiladas more soggy. Overall, avoid everything but the tacos. The burrito was stuffed with pulled chicken and was good. Only complaint was I would have liked a little more red sauce, sour cream, and cheese. Hubs got a combo & was happy with his food as well. Stopped in last night for dinner after trying two other places (Osprey Tacos and Mojo Tacos) and finding that they had no seating and a clientele who were not willing to help you out by scooting over or eating and moving on. This business is adorned in luchadore motif with plenty of seating. They had available seating but we opted to wait a few minutes to get a booth as opposed to a table. We also noticed that the staff was familiar with and friendly with several regulars who seemed to frequent the business often. Once seated, we were greeted by our server who was attentive and prompt. The menu is immense with common Mexican food like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. The menu also had a taco bowl which comes with choice of protein, rice, beans, pico de gallo, queso and lettuce. We both opted for a shrimp bowl with a queso appetizer. As with most places you get free chips and salsa. The chip are thick and crispy and the salsa is tomato based and the right mix of flavors. The queso is thick and cheesy and coats the chips well. Our bowls came out promptly and contained about ten grilled shrimp. They were a nice meal with a good blend of flavors, I recommend adding a little of the salsa to your bowl but my wife did not and thoroughly enjoyed hers. While this place is outside the bustle of the downtown St Augustine area, it is worth the trip as parking is plentiful, there is plenty of seating and the food is good. read more

I don't think I've ever given a 5* to a mexican place. I'm pretty picky, which is what I love about taco libre! Don't want beans in your taco salad? No problem! Extra tomatoes on your taco, absolutely. The margarita's are a deal at 6.99. Horchata was great, but to my taste could have used a bit more cinnamon. Maybe I'll ask for that next time and I'm sure they will accomodate. Hubby said it was the best fish taco and shrimp taco he's ever had. Salsa and queso were both fantastic. Taco Libre is a good sized, nicely decorated, comfortable full-service Mexican restaurant on A1A Beach. Excellent menu and full bar. The food is delicious and authentic and the service is attentive and quick. I have eaten there several times now and have been very pleased each time. Comfortable tables, with chips and salsa brought promptly (and are endless). Full bar and loads of tasty and reasonably priced appetizers. Excellent Mexican menu options from traditional burritos and combination platos, a ton of different tacos to choose from, quesedillas and dinner plates including carnitas (one of my favorites), chile colorado, carne asada and many more. I've had about 2/3rds of everything on the menu and it is always delicious, hot, plentiful and served quickly. Service is good without being pesky. They also do take-out. BUT in this case the formerly great state has the best Mexican food in the US. Especially living in San Diego and frequently traveling to Mexico for weekend trips and Cabo for our honeymoon. We know Mexican food. This location is on the corner of SR 16 and the 1. You park on the back side of the restaurant. Luis is the owner.
