Stop by on my way to St Agustin and it was definitely worth it. The place wasn't too packed and the server was very attentive. They greet you with free chips and salsa, the salsa is freshly made. We try the fajitas and they were good, it comes with 6 tortillas, the portion was pretty big. We also had the steak and it was delicious. Very tender and savory

We came here after evacuating from Tampa bay and was so happy this place was open for us to have lunch. We were even more happy they were advertising 2 for 1 house margaritas. We sat at the bar and were served 2 bowls of chips and salsa immediately (there were 4 of us). 2 of us did margaritas and 2 did very large beers. The margaritas were pretty good. Not sure how much alcohol was in them but they tasted good! They had some pretty good lunch special dishes on the menu. Between the 4 of us we ordered: chicken Mexican style tacos, chicken American style tacos, huevos rancheros, and the Speedy Gonzalez lunch special. The chicken was nicely seasoned, corn tortillas were fresh, and portions were very good sized. The rice and beans served with each were okay. Honestly we probably could have all done without. We also ordered the fresh guacamole. I loved it. It was chunky and flavorful. Because there was a hurricane brewing it was relatively quiet, music was nice, there were TVs if you wanted, and the staff were all attentive. Would come back if we were in the area again.

The food reminds me of Texas!!! Service is friendly and quick. And the ambience looks just like back home. Probably the best near st Augustine we've had

It's not every day you visit a restaurant and it's there one year anniversary, right? While we had no clue it was Salsas Cocina in Palencia's one year anniversary it was a pleasant surprise when we sat outside and they had a DJ outside. We opted to go out to eat, but sit outside. When we were inside at the hostess stand I noticed the interior, which was pretty and colorful. Lots of pretty large murals painted inside, lanterns hanging from the wall, and a good chunk of seating. We went outside and were given chips and salsa, while we waited for our server. It was pretty packed outside. A few large parties and an indoor/outdoor bar. I ordered a cold beer and looked over the menu. After looking over the menu, I opted for a beef chimichanga, the little got a kids mac and cheese, and my husband got pork in a pineapple. About seven minutes of waiting and then our food came out. Super super super fast! My chimichanga was fried perfectly, the beef was nicely seasoned, and the rice and beans were a nice side. My kiddo scarfed down his mac and cheese and I had some of my husband's pork in a pineapple. It was seasoned perfectly, tender, and the presentation was beautiful. Our server was checking up on us multiple times. She made sure we never had an empty drink and was quite attentive. Pros: -Quick and friendly service -Outdoor seating -Delicious food Cons: -The mosquitos were out in full force and I got eaten alive Tips: Be sure to bring some bug spray if you're there when the sun goes down.

Came in yesterday late afternoon 3/18/23. My dad and his wife said they have gone many of times and the food was super good. I am not big on Mexican restaurants only because I have gotten used to the homemade mexican cooking; therefore no other restaurant can compare. Just my opinion, either way we came in the place was bare, except for a large table that had about 8 young patrons. Upon entering you got a super smell of fabuloso cleaning solution. Not my thing ever....I can't with the smell, the host came sat us down, he was very friendly. I asked if we wanted to sit in a booth or table we said booth and I asked for a highchair and he brought one even though I never used it now that my 2 y/o feels like she's big! Food wise: it was okay not Stellar. I order the taquitos from the small plates menu they were $16 . I already messed up in my mind I thought I was ordering flautas (rolled up fried tacos with filling) instead the taquitos were greasy fried tortillas with beef filling (shredded) and a side of lettuce, pico, and sour cream. I will say the horchata was good. All in all service was Stellar. Food more mediocre. Ambiance plesant.

The food is GREAT here. We loved the thick chips and salsa! I had the enchiladas, cheese, bean, chicken, beef, topped with shredded lettuce, salsa, sour cream, and guac - very very very very good! I feel obligated to say that you should expect poor service as that is what we had on a Sunday evening. They packed us into the one dining area which I thought was so they could serve us more efficiently and that wasn't the case. It took a long time to get someone to take our drink order then even longer to take our food order. We had to ask 3 different people for more chips and salsa and then had to ask 3 people to get our check- very sad and disappointing, so expect it. Food is great so I will return! Very tasty and very fresh.

I came here with my friends for a girl's lunch. I got the cechive and it was really good! I also ordered the michelada to drink. * Vine aquí con mis amigas para un almuerzo de chicas. Ordene el cechive y fue realmente bueno! También pedí la michelada para beber.

ya not bad for a hole in the wall Mex place in the middle of burbia. The burrito wet is really good, and the taco salad is pretty decent. i wouldnt say it's authentic mexican, but it's pretty deng good for the area. this is def a solid 3 stars - pretty closely compared to cantina luie down the streent.

My new favorite Mexican restaurant! The establishment was very clean, had plenty of seating, the decor was great and the staff was very welcoming from the moment we walked in. If I have any negative things to say about this place it is only the noise, but that is mainly because it was fairly busy and lots of people talking over each other, but it was not unbearable or too much. When our food arrived it was one of the best chimichangas I have ever had. More than just our waiter came to check on us to make sure we were taken care of, even the manager stopped by to see how we were doing. Lastly the prices are very good compared to some other restaurants. This place is a must the next time we are in town.

It stood in stark contrast to the otherwise great service we received. Cold Midwest refugees, meet your Mexican savior (with a side of nostalgia)…read more We were visiting from -- or more accurately, escaping -- the frozen Midwest to soak up the magic of St. Augustine's Night of Lights. Magical? Yes. Crowded? Also yes. Parking? A full-contact sport. So we did what any rational, slightly hangry tourists would do: asked ChatGPT for a local favorite with parking that wouldn't make us cry. Enter Cantina Louie -- and honestly, bless this place. First impressions: the atmosphere is a little kitschy, cute, and refreshingly simple. Nothing pretentious, nothing trying too hard. In fact, we were about 90% sure it used to be an old Pizza Hut -- you know, the Pizza Hut -- with the iconic red roof. And honestly? That just unlocked a wave of childhood nostalgia. Somewhere between ordering breadsticks in the '90s and now ordering margaritas as adults, it all came full circle. Now, the food. We ordered La Parrilla, which arrived like it had something to prove. Fajita chicken, pulled pork, carne asada, steak carne asada, and Mexican street corn all piled together in a sizzling, aromatic flex. Every bite made us pause, look at each other, and ask, "Wait... is THIS the best one?" Spoiler: we never decided. As if that wasn't enough, we added the appetizer sampler, because self-control was not on the itinerary. Two enchiladas, mini taquitos, pineapple pork al pastor, avocado, salsa, and guacamole -- basically a greatest-hits album of Mexican comfort food. And the salsa? Unreal. We debated drinking it. With a straw. No shame. Let's talk value. All that food came in under $40. Under. Forty. Dollars. In a tourist town. During peak season. Somewhere, an accountant wept tears of joy. To hydrate (for science), we ordered two 1850 margaritas -- one classic, one strawberry. Both were generously sized, dangerously smooth, and absolutely doing the Lord's work. One sip in and we forgot all about traffic, crowds, and the cold Midwest we left behind. Final verdict: Cantina Louie didn't just save us from parking chaos -- it fed us, watered us, and gave us a warm hug of Pizza Hut nostalgia. If you're in St. Augustine during Night of Lights and don't want to wrestle a parking meter for tacos, this is the move. We came for the lights. We stayed for the salsa.

We got off the trolley at Stop 20, National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche, and were going to walk to the restaurant. Unbeknownst to us, there was no crosswalk to cross the busy Ponce de Leon boulevard. Mom isn't as spry as she once was so we didn't risk crossing without a crosswalk, so we had to walk another 1/4 or so to the nearest crosswalk then doubled back to the restaurant. Located in the The Ponce St. Augustine hotel, the restaurant is just to the left of the main doors. We had to wait a bit to get seated as the lone server had to clean a table first. Service was slow. I ordered the Bistec a Caballo (medium), my wife tried their Pork de Leon with fries and my mom opted for the Inca bowl. Did I say service was slow? Our orders weren't synched up. My order and my wife's sandwich were served first and we had to wait a few minutes before my mom's dish was served. My wife liked her sandwich and fries although she thought the shredded pork was a bit dry. My mom liked the flavors of her dish, with tender cuts of meat and smoky soy sauce flavor. The Bistec a Caballo had decent flavors BUT that steak was tough, even ordered medium. I felt like I was cutting through shoe leather cutting it with the serrated knife. Slow service and a tough steak bumped our rating down. We just couldn't overlook the quality and/or preparation of my steak, even with good flavors. Lunch for 3 came out to just over $67 with tip.
