La Cocina has easily become one of my favorite go-to spots for Mexican food in the area. Every time I come here, the food is fresh, flavorful, and served up fast. You can really taste the love in the cooking--it's authentic, delicious, and super satisfying. The atmosphere is always welcoming and laid-back. The staff is consistently friendly and attentive--they make you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. I've tried a bunch of dishes here and I've never been disappointed, but the tacos will always be my favorite! If you're craving great Mexican food with great service, La Cocina is the place to go.

It is always a pleasure to dine out when you have a fantastic waitress. Thank you Angie for our excellent service. I was dining with my Son-in-Law and one of my littles. Angie made sure we wanted for nothing. Now on to the food! Superb carnitas, they were crispy and moist inside. The kid's chicken tenders was outstanding. It was more than my little could eat and delicious. The Queso fundido was good. (I would have like more chorizo. )Finally, the Chicken enchiladas. They were ok. Both myself and my SIL are not shredded chicken fans. These were with Shredded chicken. It's a great place to eat with a bright Mexican fiesta vibes.

This Mexican restaurant in St. Augustine is very nice inside. There is also outdoor dining although it's on a busy road. The service was very good. The food was very good except for their version of Queso Fundido. These people use mozzarella cheese in their dip. We were so disappointed in the gooey glob which had to be cut with a knife. No dipping was able to be done with the chips. My friend and I had a good laugh over the use of mozzarella cheese in this dip. Totally skip it if they continue using mozzarella Other than the dip, the food was good. My carnitas were very tender and very tasty. My friend had the standard enchiladas and they put some mozzarella on or in it. Please, leave that to the Italian restaurants.

Food was good, nice size portions. Good service. Would have preferred the tortillas warmed or crispy. Loved the beans!!

Absolutely loved this place. What a beautiful setting and pleasant atmosphere. Truly authentic Mexican and reasonable price. Definitely coming back when in town. What I really loved was the table next to us order Fajitas. La Cocina use a flame for the sizzle! That looks really stunning when it was bought out. Amazing decor!

We had a wonderful date, the food was authentic and excellent, our server Andres was both professional and friendly, and the place was warm and inviting. The flaming fajitas were delicious!

Thank You So Much La Cocina! You were amazing! We arrived 30 mins before closing! We totally received your kindness and your respectful help to accommodate us! Then the food came out perfect in every way

Honestly, the venue and all of the details put into the art at La Cocina Mexican Restaurant are absolutely Rosarita beach perfect!
    Sarah L.

I have been searching for authentic Mexican food and a venue that reminds me of my beach volleyball tournaments in Rosarita days. The search has been real, I went all through Georgia didn't find anything. The closest I can get is San Diego California, obviously. I figured due to the unique cultural diversity and St Augustine Florida I would come into luck in finding something decent in the area. After searching reviews, we settled on trying out La Cocina Mexican Restaurant. When we pulled up, at 8:30 p.m. I immediately smiled because it literally looked like a place I ate at in Rosarita. There was an outside patio, and we were immediately greeted by VERY friendly waiters. We looked at the menu and the prices were all very reasonable. I settled on the beef enchiladas. While waiting we were brought out fresh chips and salsa. The salsa was extremely fresh and had a good flavor to it. The waiters were very nice! Great conversation, very well traveled, they all had goals and dreams - which I fully support. For me, part of a restaurant experience is the service and ambience / atmosphere atmosphere. I was not disappointed at all. In fact, I haven't had this great of service since relocating to the East Coast. #nolies The food was five star! Very authentic flavors, the beef enchilada had a sauce that was a little sweet but again more like a Rosarita style less like Tex-Mex. The beans were made with lard, the rice was not boxed rice it was freshly made. These were very large portions, so I ended up taking half of my meal home. I'm always about rationing my food because leftovers the next day of a great place you visited are kind of my thing. The venue itself is very low-key, dim lighting, it takes you to a completely different region of the world. The walls are adorned with beautiful Mexican murals and there are more private rooms. The early April Florida weather was stellar and naturally we opted to dine outside. Honestly, the vibe alone is worth a visit. At first it feels like this place is going to be a small hole in the wall, but once you enter and walk through you realize there is plenty of seating for large groups. I HIGHLY recommend visiting this restaurant, even if it's a little out of the way - like it was for us. Pro Tip: if you want to eat good food, don't go during busy times - at any restaurant. REASONS TO VISIT: 1. Plenty of Parking 2. Ambiance 3. Reasonable Prices 4. Authentic Food 5. Excellent Service

We had wanted to try this place for a while and were very happy to finally have made it happen. Everything was fresh and delicious, with bold flavors and spices. Our server, Andy, was so nice and took great care of us. The interior design is absolutely breathtaking and really enhanced the overall dining experience. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa, and quickly ordered some guacamole. Loved the freshness and spice of the salsa, and the guac was delicious. The spicy beef nacho soup sounded different so I ordered a cup. It was full of beef and flavor, a perfect course for a chilly day. For our meals we ordered chimichangas, a shrimp taco salad, and the chicken fajita. All the food was generously portioned and bursting with flavor, but the fajitas that I had were a real treat. They add tequila and light them tableside, which was a lot of fun! (See the pics). But the tender chicken blended with the tequila and onions and peppers put it over the top. So lucky to have this gem in our beautiful town, and we will be back. Pro tip: Ask for the two homemade hot sauces, but be ready for the heat!

Great choice for a family Mexican meal in St.Augustine. We had a party of 10 & everyone enjoyed their meals & the ambiance. Service was great & staff was accommodating for our family. We timed it right but worth a wait!

We visited for lunch on a Saturday. Place was super clean, everything well accommodated. Our server was nice but he could have being more attentive. Now the food was awesome. Fresh Salsa and chips, amazing meat and the refried beans were great. My wife ordered soup which was good but the stuffed avocado is not something we liked. Crab meat lacked flavor and we had to put salt and request lemon and Chipotle sauce to be edible.

Cold Midwest refugees, meet your Mexican savior (with a side of nostalgia)…read more We were visiting from -- or more accurately, escaping -- the frozen Midwest to soak up the magic of St. Augustine's Night of Lights. Magical? Yes. Crowded? Also yes. Parking? A full-contact sport. So we did what any rational, slightly hangry tourists would do: asked ChatGPT for a local favorite with parking that wouldn't make us cry. Enter Cantina Louie -- and honestly, bless this place. First impressions: the atmosphere is a little kitschy, cute, and refreshingly simple. Nothing pretentious, nothing trying too hard. In fact, we were about 90% sure it used to be an old Pizza Hut -- you know, the Pizza Hut -- with the iconic red roof. And honestly? That just unlocked a wave of childhood nostalgia. Somewhere between ordering breadsticks in the '90s and now ordering margaritas as adults, it all came full circle. Now, the food. We ordered La Parrilla, which arrived like it had something to prove. Fajita chicken, pulled pork, carne asada, steak carne asada, and Mexican street corn all piled together in a sizzling, aromatic flex. Every bite made us pause, look at each other, and ask, "Wait... is THIS the best one?" Spoiler: we never decided. As if that wasn't enough, we added the appetizer sampler, because self-control was not on the itinerary. Two enchiladas, mini taquitos, pineapple pork al pastor, avocado, salsa, and guacamole -- basically a greatest-hits album of Mexican comfort food. And the salsa? Unreal. We debated drinking it. With a straw. No shame. Let's talk value. All that food came in under $40. Under. Forty. Dollars. In a tourist town. During peak season. Somewhere, an accountant wept tears of joy. To hydrate (for science), we ordered two 1850 margaritas -- one classic, one strawberry. Both were generously sized, dangerously smooth, and absolutely doing the Lord's work. One sip in and we forgot all about traffic, crowds, and the cold Midwest we left behind. Final verdict: Cantina Louie didn't just save us from parking chaos -- it fed us, watered us, and gave us a warm hug of Pizza Hut nostalgia. If you're in St. Augustine during Night of Lights and don't want to wrestle a parking meter for tacos, this is the move. We came for the lights. We stayed for the salsa.

We got off the trolley at Stop 20, National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche, and were going to walk to the restaurant. Unbeknownst to us, there was no crosswalk to cross the busy Ponce de Leon boulevard. Mom isn't as spry as she once was so we didn't risk crossing without a crosswalk, so we had to walk another 1/4 or so to the nearest crosswalk then doubled back to the restaurant. Located in the The Ponce St. Augustine hotel, the restaurant is just to the left of the main doors. We had to wait a bit to get seated as the lone server had to clean a table first. Service was slow. I ordered the Bistec a Caballo (medium), my wife tried their Pork de Leon with fries and my mom opted for the Inca bowl. Did I say service was slow? Our orders weren't synched up. My order and my wife's sandwich were served first and we had to wait a few minutes before my mom's dish was served. My wife liked her sandwich and fries although she thought the shredded pork was a bit dry. My mom liked the flavors of her dish, with tender cuts of meat and smoky soy sauce flavor. The Bistec a Caballo had decent flavors BUT that steak was tough, even ordered medium. I felt like I was cutting through shoe leather cutting it with the serrated knife. Slow service and a tough steak bumped our rating down. We just couldn't overlook the quality and/or preparation of my steak, even with good flavors. Lunch for 3 came out to just over $67 with tip.
