This is a 4.5 review. Stopped in for the first time and enjoyed the restaurant. Something as simple as chips and salsa they bring out omg. They were mad fresh , they were so light and I loved the salsa. We both got enchiladas. I did chicken red sauce. She did combo green sauce. We both enjoyed our meal. The ambiance is nice. La Cocina has easily become one of my favorite go-to spots for Mexican food in the area. Every time I come here, the food is fresh, flavorful, and served up fast. You can really taste the love in the cooking--it's authentic, delicious, and super satisfying. The atmosphere is always welcoming and laid-back. The staff is consistently friendly and attentive--they make you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. I've tried a bunch of dishes here and I've never been disappointed, but the tacos will always be my favorite! Very impressed with the flavor and freshness of the food. Salsa verde was the best I ever tasted, nice citrus kick. Shredded beef in the enchiladas, moist and not over salted...top notch. Mole sauce is really good with a slight sweet note...better than the mole my pops made. Cannot wait to try more of the menu. Almost for got the tamale, swear there has to be the family moms back there making them! read more

Andres (hope I spelt that right) was a great server! Food was amazing. You get a complimentary chip & salsa appetizer... YUM. We ordered a Shrimp Firing Fajita and a Shredded Chicken Chimichanga.. results being delicious, flavorful, juicy and happy tummy's. I highly recommend, it's a dim-lit restaurant. La Cocina Mexican Restaurant - Shredded Chicken Chimichanga - Mexican Near Me - St. Augustine, Florida

My mom and I stopped by for a drink and charcuterie. The charcuterie board was delicious and had a nice variety. I got sangria and to be honest it wasn't the most flavorful. I say that because later that day I got a sangria from a different place and it was packed with some great flavors. My mom got a specialty drink that she said was good. It is a great place to go sit and listen to music however it is pricey. The waitress was very sweet. No complaints about the service read more

It is always a pleasure to dine out when you have a fantastic waitress. Thank you Angie for our excellent service. I was dining with my Son-in-Law and one of my littles. Angie made sure we wanted for nothing. Now on to the food! Superb carnitas, they were crispy and moist inside. The kid's chicken tenders was outstanding. It was more than my little could eat and delicious. The Queso fundido was good. (I would have like more chorizo. )Finally, the Chicken enchiladas. They were ok. Both myself and my SIL are not shredded chicken fans. These were with Shredded chicken. It's a great place to eat with a bright Mexican fiesta vibes. read more

La Cocina Mexican Restaurant - Veggie quesadillas. - Mexican Near Me - St. Augustine, Florida

We're visiting from Georgia and this place is honestly terrible compared to any Mexican restaurant in GA. The waiter took our order by head and came back twice to repeat the wrong order to us. We order two strawberry margaritas and it was just fruit juice no alcohol. Asked for an extra shot to put in waiter only brought one when we had two and asked for two shots. The food was not good ordered a nachos everything was clumped together by terrible cheese, and was so dry with no flavor at all. Got a kids quesadilla and that was not good as well. The food and service is an overall 1 star. Would not recommend this place at all. read more

This Mexican restaurant in St. Augustine is very nice inside. There is also outdoor dining although it's on a busy road. The service was very good. The food was very good except for their version of Queso Fundido. These people use mozzarella cheese in their dip. We were so disappointed in the gooey glob which had to be cut with a knife. No dipping was able to be done with the chips. My friend and I had a good laugh over the use of mozzarella cheese in this dip. Totally skip it if they continue using mozzarella Other than the dip, the food was good. My carnitas were very tender and very tasty. My friend had the standard enchiladas and they put some mozzarella on or in it. Please, leave that to the Italian restaurants. read more

The flavors of Mexican food are my favorite to eat. Unfortunately, they are extremely time consuming to prepare at home: peeling and chopping fresh vegetables, making sauces, then preparing your recipe, cooking fresh tortilla chips, and making flan for dessert. I've done so. Once. I was too exhausted afterwards to eat. Fortunately, there is La Cocina Mexican Restaurant in St. Augustine. The food is prepared on-site from top quality ingredients. My steak burrito had deliciously seasoned good quality meat and was generously filled with pieces large enough to identify as beef. The tortilla chips arrived hot, crisp, and perfectly salted. If heat is your thing, request the house-prepared hot chili sauce. Fire and flavor. The best combination. My companion enjoyed red snapper, which was fresh, seasoned to enhance the fish, not overpower it. For dessert, we both enjoyed the flan. Mmm. That flan... read more

We chose this because it was authentic! While waiting to be seated, I asked to order my wife and I a drink. I was ignored for 15 mins and had to ask a second time which I was still ignored. Then finally we were seated with 5 people. No chips and salsa was delivered even after we ordered $41.00 for drinks. 2 alcohol and 3 sodas. Waiter asked were we ready to order (still no chips) and when I asked my wife what did she want, the waiter saw her look at the menu and he walked away- nothing was said like " you need more time sir?" Nope! He just left. It wasn't that busy at the time. We left after paying for the drinks $41 and being there for 45.mins (wait 20 mins) 15 mins (seated)... went Salsas in Palm Coast instead and had the best time. Chips n salsa and attentive waitress ... will not return here. Ever..... read more

La Cocina Mexican Restaurant - Carne Asada - Mexican Near Me - St. Augustine, Florida

I have been searching for authentic Mexican food and a venue that reminds me of my beach volleyball tournaments in Rosarita days. The search has been real, I went all through Georgia didn't find anything. The closest I can get is San Diego California, obviously. I figured due to the unique cultural diversity and St Augustine Florida I would come into luck in finding something decent in the area. After searching reviews, we settled on trying out La Cocina Mexican Restaurant. When we pulled up, at 8:30 p.m. I immediately smiled because it literally looked like a place I ate at in Rosarita. There was an outside patio, and we were immediately greeted by VERY friendly waiters. We looked at the menu and the prices were all very reasonable. I settled on the beef enchiladas. While waiting we were brought out fresh chips and salsa. The salsa was extremely fresh and had a good flavor to it. The waiters were very nice! Great conversation, very well traveled, they all had goals and dreams - which I fully support. For me, part of a restaurant experience is the service and ambience / atmosphere atmosphere. I was not disappointed at all. In fact, I haven't had this great of service since relocating to the East Coast. #nolies The food was five star! Very authentic flavors, the beef enchilada had a sauce that was a little sweet but again more like a Rosarita style less like Tex-Mex. The beans were made with lard, the rice was not boxed rice it was freshly made. These were very large portions, so I ended up taking half of my meal home. I'm always about rationing my food because leftovers the next day of a great place you visited are kind of my thing. The venue itself is very low-key, dim lighting, it takes you to a completely different region of the world. The walls are adorned with beautiful Mexican murals and there are more private rooms. The early April Florida weather was stellar and naturally we opted to dine outside. Honestly, the vibe alone is worth a visit. At first it feels like this place is going to be a small hole in the wall, but once you enter and walk through you realize there is plenty of seating for large groups. I HIGHLY recommend visiting this restaurant, even if it's a little out of the way - like it was for us. Pro Tip: if you want to eat good food, don't go during busy times - at any restaurant. REASONS TO VISIT: 1. Plenty of Parking 2. Ambiance 3. Reasonable Prices 4. Authentic Food 5. Excellent Service read more

Eaten here a handful of times and have had an amazing experience every time.cozy spot great food great service

We had wanted to try this place for a while and were very happy to finally have made it happen. Everything was fresh and delicious, with bold flavors and spices. Our server, Andy, was so nice and took great care of us. The interior design is absolutely breathtaking and really enhanced the overall dining experience. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa, and quickly ordered some guacamole. Loved the freshness and spice of the salsa, and the guac was delicious. The spicy beef nacho soup sounded different so I ordered a cup. It was full of beef and flavor, a perfect course for a chilly day. For our meals we ordered chimichangas, a shrimp taco salad, and the chicken fajita. All the food was generously portioned and bursting with flavor, but the fajitas that I had were a real treat. They add tequila and light them tableside, which was a lot of fun! (See the pics). But the tender chicken blended with the tequila and onions and peppers put it over the top. So lucky to have this gem in our beautiful town, and we will be back. Pro tip: Ask for the two homemade hot sauces, but be ready for the heat! read more

We visited for lunch on a Saturday. Place was super clean, everything well accommodated. Our server was nice but he could have being more attentive. Now the food was awesome. Fresh Salsa and chips, amazing meat and the refried beans were great. My wife ordered soup which was good but the stuffed avocado is not something we liked. Crab meat lacked flavor and we had to put salt and request lemon and Chipotle sauce to be edible.

Stopped in on Christmas Eve, as I had nothing in the house. And I feel ashamed that after growing up in this city, that this was my first visit. First off, the lady working (I didn't catch her name) was an absolute gem of a human being. Super nice, super sweet, checked on me as needed. I ordered a Moscow Mule, and I swear to god, I've had a mule just about anywhere you can get one in this town, and this was BY FAR the best. The food was hot, fresh, and filling. The portions ain't no joke here. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. read more

The chips and salsa are so fresh and we love how their salsa is a mix between chunky/smooth so you can see(and taste) all the ingredients added in! Food was flavorless and room temperature. Margarita was so sour we could hardly drink it. The prices listed in the menu are only if you pay cash, so there's an extra 3.5% charge on all already way overpriced items. I wouldn't eat here again if it were free. One star is generous. read more

Lived here for a number of years but don't get to this side of St Augustine often. We wanted some Mexican food and thanks to Yelp it was time to try La Cocina. Stopped in for a late lunch. Had a Chile relleno - beef stuffing which was very flavorful. We understand they use the same ground beef in their other dishes. I'll have to try a taco salad with ground beef on the next visit. My wife had enchiladas (2 chicken one shredded beef). Also very tasty. Next time she said she would do three shredded beef she loved the flavor.
