Beer tacos chips salsa birria consommé
    Maryjo H.

It's a small establishment, strip mall. We were staying close in a VRBO for Nights of Lights festivities. My grandson can be a picky eater but he ate the food here! The woman who served us, so personable. No hurry. We had a couple beers, the Burria was phenomenal and the consommé to dip it in, so flavorful. Grandson had a gringo taco with sour cream. My son was too busy eating for me to notice what he had. And we had chips/salsa. No complaints. Whatever they were out of, she offered equal or better alternatives , it was a great start to our weekend.

Great tasting tacos made with Impossible meat, super flavorful and perfectly seasoned. I loved the fresh avocado, crunchy lettuce and cabbage, and the pico on top. Chips and salsa were great, and the Mexican soda hit the spot. Overall, a delicious and satisfying meal! Service was friendly and casual fun place.

Quaint, clean taco shop with a "Must Try" Birria taco. The taco was crispy with melted cheese and a nice consume' that is a nice touch. The meat was nice and tender with great flavor. The staff is personable and very helpful with explaining the menu. I liked this place and enjoyed the food. I plan to return!

Great customer service, im just finishing ordering and waiting for, to try it.

Great customer service and can't wait to try it. First time here, exited to try birria tacos, and gringo burritos

For a hefty 17 dollar price tag, the three tacos and chips were average at best. The different styles of taco were fun, but the flavors didn't really pop like some of the other taco places we've tried in the past. While it was a passable meal, there are definitely better sit down options available around the old town.

Family in town have wanted to try this place for a while. Really friendly staff. Started with chips and queso. We ordered a number of different kinds of tacos. We all loved the birria taco with the dipping sauce. Their ground beef tacos are also really good. So many options need to return again and try more. Plenty of parking out front.

Description Taco place located in St Augustine towards the main tourism area and if I'm not mistaken possible a main tourist road as well. They offer free cups of water which tastes a little off so if you are picky about your water, bottled water is the way to go. What I ordered A single birria taco a cheese quesadilla and 3x birria house special. When you order this they give you a small cup filled with extra birria broth that you can drink or dunk your tacos in. The flavor was good and the tacos were filling. When you're done eating there's trash where you can throw away your trash and you can take the tray up to the cashier. Value Compared to other taco place prices that I've been to it runs in similar pricing or a little bit cheaper. Ambiance/Crowd It was fairly empty when we went but very casual attire such as jeans leggings shirts style. It's is kid friendly and it's more of a younger crowd from two other groups I saw go in. Service The service is good, when ordering the girl working the cashier was very helpful in explaining the menu. Super kind no complaints. Parking I went on a Sunday during a long weekend. The parking was in front of the restaurant which probably fits about 8 cars but when we got there it was empty so we had no issues parking. Not sure how it would be during a busy time or rush hour. Parking in front of the restaurant is free but outside of there it seems that anywhere else you park you have to pay for parking. 4 year olds thought corner He thought the quesadilla was delicious and ate most of it until he was full but he stated a machine was loud which we didn't think it was but it's something that turns on and off.

Do not order the margs they are awful. They taste so fake. I don't even know what recognizable flavor they were

This is a Birria focused spot. We came in a recommendation from neighbors. I ordered food to go on national taco day but the place was empty at 630 PM. We got on Birria griller and 3 birria tacos. By the time I got home in 10 min the foam to go container had softened the Birria taco shell. To the point it was super sloppy. They would have benefited from a vented top. Also they did not put paper in between them so it was a challenge to separate them. Despite those challenges there is a spice used in the meat that we could not place. It was almost like a licorice flavor, maybe fennel, clove? It wasn't bad, just different. Both dishes were delicious and the griller is a two person job!

This is my second time visiting Gringos. I'm a California girl so I take my tacos very seriously and the first time I was not that impressed. But then I heard we are supposed to order the Barriria! What's Barriria? It's a Mexican way of slow cooking beef that creates more like a pot roast taco filling. These tacos are served with beef juice that you dip your taco into. It was delicious. I also ordered the Barriria salad. It was huge with enough beef to keep even a construction worker happy! This little taco shop just spent a bunch of time fixing up a cute sitting area out front with lots of plants to hang out with. I recommend sitting there and people watching while you munch on your tacos. There's plenty of parking right out front as well.

    Steak Bowl
    Janny Y.

Very casual taco joint. Lady was nice and patient, explained my questions about the menu. The portions are very generous. Ingredients were fresh. The queso was of nice texture and not salty. I thought the bowl would come with flour tortillas but we got chips instead. The steaks in the nacho were a bit too salty, but everything else was good. It's definitely a nice joint to check out if you're in the area.

I want you Gringo! After leaving the beach, we were hungry and decided on Mexican food for dinner. A couple of the trolley drivers recommended the spot as well and we got takeouts to finish the night off with. It was ready within 10 minutes after placing the order over the phone. The gringo bowl consisted of fajita chicken, which wasn't spicy. It had yellow rice topped with cilantro and queso. It was a huge portion and I ate most of it. I liked the yellow rice pairing and everything went well together. I can't speak for the inside since it was a to-go order. However, it was presented well when I opened the styrofoam package and it tasted fresh with every bite I took of it. Thanks for a Saturday night fill up!

We got the aburría House Taco and it's delicious! Shredded slow cooked steak with mozzarella on a soft flour tortilla. The taco is so juicy and it comes with nachos and pineapple salsa that's so good. The metal siding inside the establishment is cool and I must say they have an area perfect for a photo op. It's clean and the staff is helpful and attentive. Yes, there is free parking on premises

After a few minutes we got our drinks and It started to rain so she suggested we go to the bar. Another awful woman said we would need to go outside. You want us to stand outside in the rain, one of us asked. She stormed off slinging things around to demonstrate her petty frustration truth her customers to whom they had sold drinks. A gentleman behind the bar said we could stay at the bar but the bar was closing. (Inside there were many tables still eating, and some customers stayed out outside eating under their umbrellas. Another woman, much more gracious, approached us and said we would indeed need to go the bar on the first floor as they were still open. Okay we said, but when we got to the bar, another unhappy lady behind the downstairs bar said no, they were closing the bar and suggested we drink outside. It's raining outside, we said, and the staff upstairs said to come here. Well, we are closing, she said and you can't sit here. There were several tables still eating downstairs too. Large portions, beautiful plates and silverware, and quaint, cozy ambiance in America's oldest city. Fast forward to Saturday the 14th, and I'm back again with family visiting from out of the country. The food was good, but the vibe was a bit different. Started with chips & salsa - good, but hardly any chips. We had 3/4 of a dish of salsa remaining after finishing the chips, and we were told that we would have to pay for a refill of chips. Very sad! We also ordered two taco platters, and three chicken quesadilla platters. Food was good, but the side portions (beans and rice) were very small, and served in tiny plastic cups. The plates and silverware were replaced with cardboard plates/trays and plastic cutlery. Although the food was good, the presentation was disappointing. Cold Midwest refugees, meet your Mexican savior (with a side of nostalgia)…read more We were visiting from -- or more accurately, escaping -- the frozen Midwest to soak up the magic of St. Augustine's Night of Lights. Magical? Yes. Crowded? Also yes. Parking? A full-contact sport. So we did what any rational, slightly hangry tourists would do: asked ChatGPT for a local favorite with parking that wouldn't make us cry. Enter Cantina Louie -- and honestly, bless this place. First impressions: the atmosphere is a little kitschy, cute, and refreshingly simple. Nothing pretentious, nothing trying too hard. In fact, we were about 90% sure it used to be an old Pizza Hut -- you know, the Pizza Hut -- with the iconic red roof. And honestly? That just unlocked a wave of childhood nostalgia. Somewhere between ordering breadsticks in the '90s and now ordering margaritas as adults, it all came full circle. Now, the food. We ordered La Parrilla, which arrived like it had something to prove. Fajita chicken, pulled pork, carne asada, steak carne asada, and Mexican street corn all piled together in a sizzling, aromatic flex. Every bite made us pause, look at each other, and ask, "Wait... is THIS the best one?" Spoiler: we never decided. As if that wasn't enough, we added the appetizer sampler, because self-control was not on the itinerary. Two enchiladas, mini taquitos, pineapple pork al pastor, avocado, salsa, and guacamole -- basically a greatest-hits album of Mexican comfort food. And the salsa? Unreal. We debated drinking it. With a straw. No shame. Let's talk value. All that food came in under $40. Under. Forty. Dollars. In a tourist town. During peak season. Somewhere, an accountant wept tears of joy. To hydrate (for science), we ordered two 1850 margaritas -- one classic, one strawberry. Both were generously sized, dangerously smooth, and absolutely doing the Lord's work. One sip in and we forgot all about traffic, crowds, and the cold Midwest we left behind. Final verdict: Cantina Louie didn't just save us from parking chaos -- it fed us, watered us, and gave us a warm hug of Pizza Hut nostalgia. If you're in St. Augustine during Night of Lights and don't want to wrestle a parking meter for tacos, this is the move. We came for the lights. We stayed for the salsa.
